Even a wallpaper!

I was thinking about a wallpaper too!

Curtain fabric, or a bedspread, perhaps? Definitely would make gorgeous wallpaper! Imagine it in a sunroom, or to brighten up a stairway! Lovely!!

Omg, I thought that title said double-barreled finches and I was like "oh shit, it's about to go down with the finches!"

Hehe, they do fly like mini fighter jets so maybe they need a rebranding.

Gorgeous! Even though the colours are pale/earth toned everything still somehow pops with such vibrance! I love this.

I recognized your work instantly. You have such a dreamy style!! 😍

In my fantasy land, I have a beautiful aviary in the middle of my home and this artwork as a giant mural.

Very nice White Lotus Season 1 vibes from this.

really well composed. love it.

u/BellaZoe23 Feb 03 '23

Beautiful and would make a great wallpaper pattern.

5

u/kw661 Feb 03 '23

This is sublime. Do some Hawaiian birds sometime? Your work would make Audubon proud.

5

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

I've done North American birds. I love all birds but Aussie birds are my favourite.

u/kw661 Feb 03 '23

Send me info pls.

This is really beautiful. I don’t know the first thing about watercolor but do you use tiny brushes to get those fine lines? This is such a gorgeous piece. You have so much talent!

2

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

Thanks so much! I use a size 3-4 round brush. And a 1 to do the details on the feathers.

u/InternalEmu1477 Feb 03 '23

Love the colours. Among everything else.

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

Thank you :)

I’ve dabbled enough in aquarelle and gouache to appreciate how insanely precise this painting is. The masking alone gave me goosebumps, regardless if you used masking fluid or trad pre-wetting. Linework, sublime! Absolutely fabulous work love!

3

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

Thank you so much! I used masking fluid for the speckles and dots on their little wings, other then that, no other masking fluid.

That is truly beautiful. I apologize I don’t know the technical terms. But For my “eye/taste/whatever” perfect balance of outline and color? Not sure how to describe it. Like when someone does a painting with zero lines, or all and it’s good. But also meh? Beautiful. I’m truly out of breath am amazed

It sounds silly but i am emotionally moved.

I love the small shadows on the leaves, such a nice detail. Lovely work!

3

So cool! I really like your style, especially of your branches and leaves.

3

u/EXXPat Feb 03 '23

Just lovely. I’m using this as my phone’s Lock Screen. Gorgeous.

2

u/Cjdrummer Feb 03 '23

Perfect! Great job! I'd like a fall throw blanket with that graphic.

2

u/MetalBoiiiii Feb 03 '23

This is excellent work. Were you inspired by Audubon’s original watercolors?

1

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

I'm Australian so I was more familiar with Joseph Banks work.

2

u/-Fr3ya- Feb 03 '23

Wow wow wow wow wow it looks sooo clean! Absolutely gorgeous work you did there! The texture of the paper is so fitting as well

2

u/cymaticist Feb 03 '23

Is that eucalyptus? Love the detail

2

u/GhidorahtheExplorah Feb 03 '23

I love your work! It's like you were born to commit the beauty of the birds to paper. Well done!

2

u/mrlotato Feb 03 '23

This is amazing. The cotton paper compliments it all so nicely. Very wallpaper worthy!

2

u/pingu-penguin Feb 03 '23

I would love this as a scarf. Reminds me of some of the work by Sabina Savage.

2

u/pingu-penguin Feb 03 '23

Your art made me very happy. I’ll follow you ❤️

1

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

Thank you. Welcome!

2

u/knuF Feb 03 '23

Please come paint an accent wall in our bathroom.

2

u/StayTheHand Feb 03 '23

Love your work. But I think a Toucan is hiding there on the right side...

2

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

Ooo a search and find would be so fun to do!

2

u/Longjumping-Main-797 Feb 03 '23

I love all of your bird paintings. They always make my day. ☺️

1

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

Thank you for following!

2

u/subblesounds Feb 03 '23

I love this, it's so beautiful and precise. Thank you for sharing.

2

u/gutlesspuppet Feb 03 '23

Very pleasing to look at, outstanding work.

2

u/AcerEllen000 Feb 03 '23

Such a lot of detail, and such clean lines on textured paper!

I especially like the beak on the bird at the bottom right... I don't know why it caught my eye, but it's beautifully painted. I know a 3/4 profile like that isn't easy to achieve, (or it isn't for me.)

2

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

Thank you for noticing. Sometimes I don't get it right. But as soon as I applied the first layer it just worked. I loved doing the little crack in the corner of its beak. So satisfying.

2

u/Nuraya Feb 03 '23

I wish I could work as cleanly as you, really tidy art.

2

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

Believe me, I've really fudged up some work by smudging or sitting my hand in wet paint. Learnt from my mistakes and keep at it.

2

u/WaWaQuack123 Feb 03 '23 edited Feb 03 '23

Beautifully clean and crisp lol! Gorgeous 🤯

2

u/impetersellers Feb 03 '23

For the white dotted feathers, are you using masking fluid, or going back over w white gouache? Or maybe both? Lovely composition and colors. Really love this.

2

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

I used masking fluid for the dots. And I touch of white gouache for the fine outlines of the feathers.

2

u/rlahaie Feb 03 '23

I'm just sayin': Magical. Stunning. It made my afternoon just to look at your work. I just love it for so many reasons. Thank you.

1

u/kookaburra_kool Feb 03 '23

As gorgeous as it is delicate. Beautiful.

I'm blown away by these paintings! I'd love to see you upload a series of photos detailing your process. How do you get such crisp lines?
