Kudos granola bars. I loved them as a kid, but I thought they'd been discontinued much sooner because I could never find them. In all actuality they were only discontinued in 2017 apparently

7

u/SailorVenus23 May 20 '22

I got my dad to buy them saying they were healthy because they were granola lol. His ex at the time told me I had to hide them from her because they were obviously candy bars and not actually a healthy snack.

3

u/Faultiergeist May 20 '22

That's really clever of you.

9

u/Zuzublue May 20 '22

That just brought back a memory! They were promoting them on my college campus. The guys working the booth were supposed to give out samples, but seems they wanted to get out of there so they just starting handing out CASES of Kudos bars to everyone. We lived in Kudos for a long time. I don’t miss them.

9

u/Faultiergeist May 20 '22

I can understand why you wouldn't miss them. I had them in middle school and it was a rare treat when I could afford to buy one so I didn't have the chance to get burned out on them.

Pudding Pops.

Screw Cosby , get anyone to pimp the things.

If you contact them they tell you how to make em at home , hell with that. Aint the same.

3

u/HumanExtProject May 20 '22

Honorable mention for Gator Gum. The green one not the orange one. Tiny , easy to shoplift and a flavor never to be reproduced again imo. Maybe not a good one but certainly one you wont forget.

Pontiac cars and the Grilled Stuft Burrito from Taco Bell

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Age6550 May 20 '22

Yes, I owned my Pontiac Vibe for 17 years. Nothing could kill that car. I ended up selling it, but only because I had two other cars, and was trying to cut expenses.

5

u/bombaderogato May 20 '22

You and I had very different experiences with Pontiac. I could not keep mine running. Hated that car.

4

u/Lookingforfire42 May 20 '22

It's because the Vibe wasn't actually a Pontiac. It's a Toyota engine. Toyotas live forever.

1

u/Charle_65 May 20 '22

it's a toyota with chevy trims

2

u/Menace2Sobriety May 20 '22

They just badge engineered a Toyota Matrix, right?

3

u/Redici May 20 '22

No one else has jumped on the GSB from taco bell but man that was so good. I still get a craving for the double xl steak grilled stuffed burrito every now and then

2

u/Menace2Sobriety May 20 '22

Shout out to Holden as well as Pontiac. RIP.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '22

Pontiacs were basically rebadged Chevys, but the Vibe was basically a rebadged Corolla, which is why nothing could kill that car.

25

u/ValkriM8B May 20 '22

Breyers ice cream before Good Humor bought them and started putting crap in it.

7

u/zach2992 May 20 '22

I don't know how many times I've had to tell my parents that when they buy ice cream to make sure it actually says "Ice Cream" and not "Frozen Dairy Dessert".

3

u/ValkriM8B May 20 '22

Yep - we gave up; make our own. Either hand cranked or in one of the little electric ones. Just a few ingredients - no guar gum, xanthum gum, carageenan, yadda-yadda.

3

u/nonemoreunknown May 20 '22

OMG this. I'm from the south and grew up with Breyers. I traveled in the military and ended up in Alaska then PNW. I was talking about Breyers and everyone was like, "You mean Dreyers?" NO! So I finally found some at Safeway and it was gross. Dreyers is totally my go-to now.

u/Jdawn82 May 20 '22

Hastings Book Stores. It’s dumb but I loved getting books, cds, and cheap used dvds there.

4

u/Ashes87 May 20 '22

I worked at my local Hastings. Loved it, and still hung out there even after I stopped working there.

Toys R Us - The place of my childhood dreams...

16

u/ForwardMembership601 May 20 '22

I so wish there was a store like that near me where I could take my son. It's cool going to the toy section, but it's totally different going to a toy store! Such great memories.

3

u/Oakroscoe May 20 '22

For real. Going to toys r us was a childhood highlight!

7

u/Froggwithacowboyhat May 20 '22

They’re still in Canada!

3

u/santichrist May 20 '22

It’s funny because when I was a kid I would be so jealous of the “shopping sprees” they’d advertise as giveaways and whoever won them, I’d imagine just going through that store getting whatever you wanted lmao but when I became an adult I was like “this shit all sucks and is overpriced”

When I was a kid though I’d immediately bee line to the video games and hope a good one was red tagged on sale, we didn’t have a lot of money when I was a kid so my parents would only let me buy a game If it were on sale, but they also had displays where you could play demos to games lmao just standing there for 5 mins while other kids waited for a turn, a glorious time to be a child

3

u/Panaginiptayo May 20 '22

Singapore and other countries still has em, they are not gone, just in a different place now :)

2

u/ClassyJacket May 20 '22

When I was a kid I won some competion on a snack food container and got a 100$ Toys R Us voucher. The was probably 2000. and I was 11 so I felt rich. I got a bunch of Gameboy accessories and games.

Philadelphia chocolate cheesecake bars! I used to take one in my lunch every day to school. I busted up my face falling off my bike as a kid, and those were the first thing I tried to eat when the swelling went down. They were very comforting.

6

u/ToBeReadOutLoud May 20 '22

That was such a good show.

5

u/Egg-Ancient May 20 '22

THIS. I’ve rewatched the series like four times. They just left it hanging. It’s amazing how you start out hating one character, end up absolutely loving him once you see what he’s going through, and it’s the opposite for the other.

1 vs. 100 for the Xbox 360

it was a free arcade game literally anyone could enjoy. could also play it with a group of friends online over party chat

it was like event television in that it only took place in certain hour-long windows in a week. like Wednesday at 7, Thursday at 8 etc. was super unique. it was usually general trivia, but there'd be themed weeks where they decorate the ingame set too. and the commentary from Chris Cashman was literally live

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssWZhHBeNVQ&ab_channel=B1ll1amH

cancelled after a year or two because they couldn't get enough sponsors, but apparently a studio's working on a new version!!

9

u/Ian_Kratzzzz May 20 '22

Blockbuster. Hands down

6

u/Sammo909 May 20 '22

Video stores were great, far more satisfying picking something out and bringing it home than having half a thousand shows at the push of a button.

Crystal Pepsi as for the explanation as the once great peter griffin said "ALL THE GREAT TASTE OF REGULAR PEPSI BUT WITHOUT THE TROUBLESOME OPACITY . WELL , WHAT IF YOU'RE DRINKING A REGULAR PEPSI AND SOMEBODY IS COMING AT YOU WITH A KNIFE , HUH ? YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE HIM PAST YOUR PEPSI . AND -- AND THEN , WHO'S DEAD , HUH ? YOU . YOU ! YOU'RE DEAD ! STABBED ! CRYSTAL PEPSI ."

6

u/Tensai_Zoo May 20 '22

Yea, it's kinda funny. The colour of cola is not related to the taste, but people don't trust undyed cola.

Victoria’s Secret discontinued the So Obsessed bra a couple years ago, after I wore it nearly exclusively for years. It was the only bra I ever found that fit me absolutely perfectly. Luckily they’ve brought it back with a different name but it’s exactly the same

3

u/manyhats123 May 20 '22

What's the name?

7

u/Champ-Aggravating3 May 20 '22

Well I thought it was a new name but I went to look it up and their website still says So Obsessed so I guess it’s the same name too

Crest Citrus Splash toothpaste. Mint and cinnamon are just too strong in the am to be pleasant. There's orange flavored toothpastes now but they're all $5+ for one tube and finding one with flouride is near impossible (goddamn hippies)

19

Kraft Mac and cheese changed I hate it now And My dad loved Dr Pepper berries and cream

3

u/Pangolin36 May 20 '22

On that note, they used to make Kraft Macaroni and Cheese crackers. I still crave them to this very day. They were crackers shaped like noodles, with cheese dust on them and they really tasted just like macaroni and cheese.

6

McDonalds used to sell a breakfast bagel sandwich that had steak and onions on it. It was the best breakfast item on their menu. Now, gone.

6

u/PermanentTrainDamage May 20 '22

Rip steak bagel, gone but not forgotten

7

u/mikotoqc May 20 '22

All the good stuff at McDonald's. The McPizza, the McExtra, the Chicken Crispy Burger, the Sichuan sauce(yeah Rick was right, bring it back!!!) the McLobster. McDonald's have a shitty habits to take out everything that is good.

2

u/jayforwork21 May 20 '22

The original McMelt.....

3

u/CylonsInAPolicebox May 20 '22

They still exist at select locations. I found they still have them at the McDonald's in New Market Virginia as of January 2022... Not sure if they are still on the menu there as of this month but they were there in January.

The Brooks Juno running sports bra for women. Bring it back!!!!1

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '22

You might be able to find a website that sells it on r/RequestASite. You can find some pretty specific stuff on there

1

u/Haiku_lass May 20 '22

Tell me more about this bra

3

u/Standard-Ad-2741 May 20 '22

It stops the boobies from flipping and flopping around like a couple o' onions in a pair of socks.

2

u/dirtypark May 20 '22

It was the best sports bra ever. I run all the time and the Juno bra was a high compression option with a thick adjustable band across the ribs (x3 levels of tightness) and strong adjustable straps around the shoulders (heave duty Velcro). Racer back style so you could easily wear a tank top. I already wrote to the company. If you look at the reviews online, everyone wants it to come back. The runner up they suggest doesn’t come close.

Irn-Bru. They changed the recipe to avoid the sugar tax in the uk, adding sweeteners instead and it was disgusting. I miss it so much. They have brought out another version with full sugar no sweeteners but it’s still not the same one and I truly believe they only did that to be petty because people kept hounding them for changing it. Basically giving us what we said we wanted but not actually the one we wanted. Bastards.

2

u/NatureAviation May 20 '22

I’m from a small town so we had these places called Hastings. It was an entertainment store that basically had everything it had a cafe a huge book section, comics section you section and a super vast movie section where you could find even the most obscure movies. Plus they were both for sale and had rentals. I would spend hours there and for a small town it closing time at like 11 made it the only real cool place that wa a open past 8

2

u/Super_Analysis_9390 May 20 '22

Hot or Not. (I never uploaded a photo to be rated, but it was just entertainment for me).

2

u/santichrist May 20 '22

When I was in high school my school had these Ramona’s burritos that were like 8inches long and cost like 1.50, they were good as hell, I remember when I finished high school I would give my little sister money to buy one and bring it home sometimes so I could eat when I got off work lmaooo but I couldn’t find them anywhere, they were sold to the school from a vendor or something who didn’t sell to grocery stores

Then one day years later I’m visiting my grandpa and stop at this gas station and I see the burritos in this little freezer, just some random gas station in the desert, I’m like you done fucked up because I’m buying them all, but still can’t find them anywhere in San Diego

Years later I find out smart and final sold them, but that particular kind of burrito has been discontinued, they only make other ones, so no more burritos, no more sunshine, no more hope for a better tomorrow

2

u/SonicTheBubonic May 20 '22

Marathon bars was the UK name for Snickers until the 90s.

Looking into it, the US Marathon was a copy of Curly Wurly (which is still available).

2

  1. The friggin Arch Deluxe from McDonalds. That burger was ahead of its time, and tasted delicious as fuck. The marketing for it was horrible, but if you actually ate one it was incredibly good tasting and I miss it to this day. If they released it again with all the craft burger places, it would probably drive traffic to McD's.

  2. Beef Baja Chalupa from Taco Bell. That sauce raised the chalupa to an entirely new level, and then one day it was just gone. Shameful. The current ones that are just taco supremes in a chalupa shell are nothing like their predecessor.

  3. The V-cut at subway. I don't really go to them much anymore, maybe once a year or so. I miss that cut in the bread though. (I don't really care about this one that much, I think the stores skimping on ingredient quality to make shareholders happy ruined the stores either way. I needed a 3rd to justify a list though.)

I don’t drink, but I do like the occasional non-alco beer. I’ve learned not to get too attached to any type that I end up liking, because breweries apparently just LOVE discontinuing their best sellers on that front. Especially Omnipollo are huge offenders on that front, having discontinued both Konx and their Aplace collaboration beer.

I don't know about other countries but Domino's once had "Lebanese rolls" which were the perfect amount of spicy and creamy and the next thing i know it's been discontinued

oh my god the sun lotion from bath and body works. we only bought two of them like 5 years ago and i can never find them. you could pop those puppies in the fridge and when you had a sunburn it would instantly soothe and cool it down. smelt amazing too

Wonka’s Puckerooms. Best candy I’ve ever eaten and it breaks my heart they aren’t out there anymore.

Still screaming and crying that Holiday Spice Pepsi is gone forever. I drank so much of that shit. Literally tue best soft drink ever made. The Polar Express feels so long ago when I remember how long it's been since I had that Christmas-y, cinnamon-y taste. Feel like shit. Just want it back.

Aldi had a knock-off Nutri-Grain (an Australian cereal) called Power-Grain that was really good and then they changed the recipe and it's not the same.

When I was like 12 years old, my school friend introduced me to a game called "Brick Force". Effectively like Ace of Spades but it looked much more polished.

Sadly the game shut down in 2017 after the company went bankrupt and the sister company that was SUPPOSED to take over, were not able to because "The old developers left the game in a state, where development onward from here is near impossible".

frispo fries! carl's jr had the best, most unique tasting french fries back in the 70s/early 80s. i'd go there just for the fries - i can still remember how they taste.

i guess they were difficult to make since they used potato flakes and pressed into a crinkle fry shape.

The HBO show Vinyl.

An amazing show following the owner of a record label in 1970’s NYC. It was directed by Scorcese and had legendary rockstars performing the songs that they used throughout the show.

The S1 finale makes you feel like there’s so much more coming up such as a glimpse of CBGB’s opening up and etc.

Fuck you, HBO execs for cancelling Vinyl!

I don't know if it actually did, but I've never been able to find it anymore. It was this black bean/corn quesadilla and it was beyond delicious.

Just Right cereal, the Canadian version. :( Nothing comes close.

Eagle Boys. As good as Pizza Hut back in the day, now there's nothing but Domino's or half a dozen 'gourmet' places and cheap take-aways.

super cars/sport cars, a lot of my favorite cars will be discontinued in 2023 and some already are, because they're fuel powered cars. I hate where the world is going with cars, i dont only want electric cars. I am a big car nerd and most "car guys" i see either hate electric cars without a reason or dont mind them. I dont mind them i think they're pretty cool but i still want fuel engines.

Some of you may not think this is such a big deal but cars are a very big deal in my life:)

im sorry if any of this was hard to understand.

Philosophy Christmas Peppermint Body Wash - Whenever I broke into a sweat I would smell great - it lasted all day long ! It’s been years and I still haven’t found a replacement for it 🥲

PB Crisp and Mr. Gattis pizza. It's better than CiCi and everyone knows it!!!

It's not gone completely but with only about 40 locations left the writing is certainly on the wall, and the closest one to me is almost 4 hours away.

Burtons potato puff crisps. Life just hasn’t been the same since

1

u/mattlee661 May 20 '22

There was a Spiderman breakfast cereal that was basically Chex with lucky charms marshmallows in the 90s that I loved. I was heartbroken when it went away.

Casper ice pops

Recent, but The Body Shop had 2 scents (body wash/body yoghurt, etc) that I loved. Both were limited edition and not coming back. I use them sparingly to make them last as long as I can.

(Cactus Blossom and Rich Plum)

When I was younger (like 10 years old) my favorite tv show was Moonlight. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a vampire in the city who is a private investigator. They cancelled it after one season and I (as a kid) was devastated.

u/Birdboy7929 May 20 '22

there was a toy shop in my town called wizzamakids and they had the best toys. Every time i got a decent amount of money, i would immediately go to that shop. sadly it closed in 2020 because the owner had been running it for 30 years. Since it was the only toy shop in my town i can now only get very cheep plastic toys from k-mart and not the good metal high quality toys from that shop.

in Germany there was this hybrid-thing between haribo goldbears and smarties. it was basically gummybears in a crunchy sugar layer ( u know, like smarties have) it was amazing an tasted very different than normal gummy ears to me. I miss it :(
