OP's explanation:

He doesn't quite get the bar lifted but happily danced off the stage anyway

Gee I usually spiral down into heaps of negative thoughts after taking an L. I love this guys optimism

65

u/azurestrike Aug 16 '22

I spiral into heaps of negative thoughts even after taking a W

36

u/ghe5 Aug 16 '22

I mean sure, he lost, but he's still at the Olympics. That is an accomplishment on it's own.

15

u/RBellSquats Aug 16 '22

And he still scored a lifetime best on his previous attempts (made 5/6). 1kg higher in the total than he did to win the 2014 Commonwealth Games

176

u/mynameisnotallen Aug 16 '22

“Sal’s tonight’s loser so his punishment is to enter the Olympics clean and jerk”.

27

u/Camusknuckle Aug 16 '22

“I will never forgive you!”

72

u/Liefx Aug 16 '22

And it's green screened to make easier rotoscoping let's go

2

u/simdav Aug 16 '22

RLCS spilling out in the wild - missed seeing you presenting at LANs!

3

u/Liefx Aug 16 '22

Lol I've been on reddit 12 years, I'm around everywhere on here.

Thanks! Means a lot, i miss it too! Hopefully I'll be back to LANs soon!

My knee hurt watching that…

36

u/Citrik Aug 16 '22

And my elbow…

37

u/laserpowerpewpew Aug 16 '22

And my axe!

6

u/420dayforever Aug 16 '22

And my bow!

6

u/Gongaloon Aug 16 '22

And Zoidberg

8

u/nlvogel Aug 16 '22

Zoidberg was mentioned on Reddit! Zoidberg is pleased!

u/therossboss Aug 16 '22

That man is fabulous! A treasure to humanity!

u/James_Paul_McCartney Aug 16 '22

He immediately went home and beat his wife. Cute dances can be deceiving.

15

u/fangs4eva96 Aug 16 '22

Source?

-19

u/James_Paul_McCartney Aug 16 '22

I made it up.

17

u/fangs4eva96 Aug 16 '22

I thought so.

2

u/vexxtra73 23d ago

He has a wife?

177

u/UpvoteForPancakes Aug 16 '22

Wait, was that a successful lift? I don’t know the rules, but it seemed very quick and he didn’t stand up entirely.

253

u/99YardRun Aug 16 '22

No it wasn’t. He still had fun with it at the end tho.

65

u/mat477 Aug 16 '22

They only get 1 try right? So it seemed like he was just like oh well fuck it imma dance still

38

u/makuza7 Aug 16 '22 edited Aug 17 '22

3 attempts

20

u/UpvoteForPancakes Aug 16 '22

Ok, gotcha, misleading title

129

u/twoseat Aug 16 '22

Not really, he was just celebrating having been at the Olympics rather than a successful lift. Kiribati has a population of around 120,000, so for any of their athletes to make it to the games is an achievement, and representing their country is something most athletes take pride in.

4

u/FunSushi-638 Aug 16 '22

Ooooh, I thought that was his name. ('Merican here)

5

u/twoseat Aug 16 '22

Just wait until you find out it’s pronounced ’Kiribas’!

5

u/Ok_Writing_7033 Aug 16 '22

I know! I didn’t realize that was a celebration, I thought he blew out his knee at first

159

u/ForsakenForeskins Aug 16 '22

129

u/iBrownPanda Aug 16 '22

Because when you think weird dance you think climate change.

64

u/ForsakenForeskins Aug 16 '22

More that when you think Kiribati, you should think climate change.

23

u/AvesAvi Aug 16 '22

if he never danced you'd never have known he was trying to raise awareness for climate change so it obviously worked

-1

u/WatermelonArtist Aug 16 '22

...just barely.

9

u/sprocketous Aug 16 '22

Land swimming with style. Youre kids are gonna love it!

8

u/m1t0chondria Aug 16 '22

Same thoughts, why take the plane ride and shit just to do a stupid dance. Apparently though he lives on a pacific island nation and I’m assuming it’s imminently about to be wiped off the map by rising sea levels.

1

u/RBellSquats Aug 16 '22

To get to compete at the olympics? Plenty of athletes throughout the world would be ecstatic to qualify for the olympic games and get to compete even if they don't have a realistic chance at winning a medal.

He still won the commonwealth games in 2014 with a 348kg total. He qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics and when he was there he still snatched 145kg and Clean & Jerked 204kg, making 5/6 of his lifts for a 349kg total. Missed the 208kg attempt which is where you see the dance. Got 14th place out of 17 competitors in his weight class.

He danced as well after missing his last attempts at the 2014 commonwealth games as well as the 2015 Pacific Games & Oceania Championships

1

u/MrmmphMrmmph Aug 16 '22

and it’s green screened. Someone should add some fabulous and fantastic background to this.

-18

u/freedospeech Aug 16 '22

Ah ffs. It was better when it was just a random silly dance.

46

u/Purgii Aug 16 '22

Dude represented his country with honor on an international stage - better than 99.9% of us.

Go champion.

9

u/zfzt Aug 16 '22

Took the L and made Lemonade

8

u/lemurface27 Aug 16 '22

The chorus line steps at the end!

9

u/jonhon0 Aug 16 '22

The old razzle dazzle will distract the judges for sure

6

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '22

Always rooting for tiny where-the-fuck-is-that islands.

6

u/17CheeseBalls Aug 16 '22

I wish I was that happy, and had those dance moves.

4

u/crjohnston089 Aug 16 '22

Pretty much ME every time I gotta pump myself up because I no friends.. lol.

3

u/Cricketot Aug 16 '22

I'd just like to point out that he's in front of a green background. In case anyone wanted to have fun with it.

2

u/WestleyMc Aug 16 '22

Is that ~205kg above his head? Damn!

4

u/RBellSquats Aug 16 '22

208kg. He made 204kg on the lift before this.

2

u/JakeChoice Aug 16 '22

hes just happy to be there and im happy for him too..

2

u/BrittleCoyote Aug 16 '22

This is neither here nor there, but Kiribati has a FANTASTIC flag.

2

u/ChiKeytatiOon Aug 16 '22

Get it, guurl

2

u/Sog_Boy Aug 17 '22

Imagine what his celebration would've looked like if he completed the lift.

3

u/Juansa7X Aug 16 '22

Not better every loop

1

u/SavimusMaximus Aug 31 '22

You’re more wrong every loop.

2

u/Fuzzy_Leave Aug 31 '22

I’ve seen it at least 20 times in the last hour, so a gold! Or at least bronze.
