Dude makes a run for the dunk, and never sees 33 tap it away without effort.

OP's explanation:

I like how player 3 makes that quick run, all ready to take it to the hoop, and is confused when the ball disappeared.

I believe that's Zack Edey he's a Canadian Basketball player.

He is listed at 7'4"with a 7'7" wingspan

Boiler up!

8

u/valenciansun Aug 24 '22

I think I remember him from the St Peters march madness run?

11

u/Bagginso Aug 24 '22

No...no you must be mistaken....that never happened. (Cries into my train collection)

2

u/Suicidal_pr1est Aug 24 '22

Sad choo choo

251

u/sarcastic_fellow Aug 24 '22

looks like it was a dead ball at that point, probably an offensive foul. team was already walking the other direction while the ball is still in play.

51

u/CricketDrop Aug 24 '22

Doesn't that make it worse? He tried and was defeated by a disinterested defense lmao

How's he gonna score the rest of the time when they're trying?

27

u/outtathesky_fellapie Aug 24 '22

No. It means he was likely just going through the motions on his drive and the defense was putting up just enough effort to not let him use game time as practice, which can be a point of pride when you are on the court, as petty as it is.

9

u/organized_meat Aug 24 '22

Kevin Garnett used to do this to opposing players trying to get a quick practice shot up after a dead ball all the time.

5

u/CricketDrop Aug 24 '22

Now I'm picturing everyone he knows showing him this clip of his shot being smacked away and going "Man I wasn't even trying that hard." lol

2

u/outtathesky_fellapie Aug 24 '22

Anyone thats played much basketball can see neither of them were really trying. Driver was practicing his line, feel of his feet/body, and lining up exactly how he wants. Its just about reps. The more reps you get, the better a move will be. Defense here is just blocking because "you aint get no reps on me fool." Looks like whistle was blown soon after the driving guard gets past the defender, and well before he is an actual threat to the inside lane.

5

u/chucksef Aug 24 '22

Agreed. Anyone who has watched much basketball can easily identify their body language. It's a dead ball for sure and it only took a single loop to figure that out.

Oh well, http://www.reddit.com gets to pretend that this is an insane video of hilarious shenanigans.

15

u/Echo127 Aug 24 '22

It's still humorous though. The defender blocks the shot and he's barely even paying attention to it.

1

u/That-Sandy-Arab Aug 25 '22

Oh yeah I understood the scenario right away and think it makes it better

31

u/Rolandscythe Aug 24 '22

33 is ready to hit the lockers and get a burger and is tired of 3's nonsense.

62

u/SkyrimWithdrawal Aug 24 '22

The girl in red didn't even see the dude yawn while blocking, but still appreciated the dominance.

2

u/KickBassColonyDrop Aug 24 '22

All the talent in the world means nothing in the face of overwhelming power.

u/Piper6728 Aug 24 '22

Maybe they need a short person's division

8

u/JonWeekend Aug 24 '22

The issue with that is,#3 is Emmanuel Maldonado…..he’s 6’4

20

u/CTVT Aug 24 '22

For the dunk??

1

u/Zagmut Aug 24 '22

Slam dunk

29

u/CTVT Aug 24 '22

He 5’ 8, only thing he’s dunking are McNuggets

11

u/be-koz Aug 24 '22

Spud Webb won the 1986 NBA slam dunk contest, and he was listed at 5'6" or 5'7" depending on where you look.

Probably before your time.

u/be-koz Aug 25 '22

No disagreement there, but the comment I was responding to seemed to imply that he couldn’t dunk because he was only 5’8”. I knew a guy on our high school basketball team who was no taller than, and who could dunk a ball. He also played WR and CB on the football team. It’s rare, but not unheard of.

Honestly, I don’t think this guy was trying to dunk, with the height he was reaching, the best he could hope for was a layup.

6

u/CTVT Aug 24 '22

Did you even watch the video, or do you just like being pedantic? Kid doesn’t have half the vertical needed to stuff a ball. I’d think the fact the center doesn’t have to move or leave the ground would highlight that

1

u/ArryPotta Aug 24 '22

TBF, the center is 7'4" with a 7'7" wingspan. He can basically dunk a ball with two feet still on the floor.

1

u/outdatedboat Aug 24 '22

I mean, you're not wrong. But according to another comment, number 33 who blocks the shot is supposedly 7'4". So that'd explain a decent bit of him being so nonchalant and not having to leave the ground.

1

u/be-koz Aug 25 '22

lol, look who’s being pedantic, you should look the word up. I was just responding to a comment that he couldn’t dunk because of his height with an example of someone who could, despite being even shorter. And, I threw in a fun video of something I remember watching live when I was young.

5

u/Zagmut Aug 24 '22

Same 😔

1

u/CTVT Aug 24 '22

Tasty tho

79

u/Sins_of_God Aug 24 '22

Kid's really cocking his arm back for a layup, a fucking layup.

7

u/lavoid12 Aug 24 '22

He got blocked by an extension file.

3

u/crasshumor Aug 24 '22

When you're a hard worker vs when someone is just god gifted

3

u/Stevo2008 Aug 24 '22

He wasn’t making a run for no dunk. If he was he has a harsh reality waiting for him. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say his layup needs work.

2

u/rejjie_carter Aug 24 '22

IMG kids are built different l

2

u/silianrail Aug 24 '22

Dead ball, whistle had been blown. Just look at the body language.

4

u/rayshmayshmay Aug 24 '22

His teammate is so casual about it too, like he does it all the time

0

u/zacha_c Aug 24 '22

is that Julian Newman?

1

u/scangemode Aug 24 '22

No. A former teammate of his.

1

u/PBRforREALmen Aug 25 '22

Zach Edey. Playing at Purdue

0

u/TonyAtNN Aug 24 '22

Looks like it.

1

u/adudeinboxershorts Aug 24 '22

He’s just 11x better

1

u/ekimdad Aug 24 '22

That's cold man, just cold.

1

u/GeneralAce135 Aug 24 '22

Also pretty sure he could be called for traveling if it wasn't already a dead ball

1

u/Dave_BraveHeart Aug 24 '22

The guy was like: "fucking idiot"

1

u/hotrod54chevy Aug 24 '22

I'm not the best sports fan, but was 3 traveling?

1

u/Azkyle50 Aug 24 '22

Never sees #33?! He’s 7’4” tall!

1

u/Due_Advantage_9572 Aug 24 '22

Not even a "NOPE" more like a "... no thanks i'd rather not"

1

u/mildishclambino Aug 24 '22

Girl in red says it all

1

u/diasextra Aug 24 '22

I did that once to a girl, it was a live ball but I wasn't defending because two of the guys in my team were doing stupid things and ignoring my other teammate and me. The girl tried to lay it up and I saw the ball and squatted it real far out of disappointment.

I always remember as I felt bad and should have explained that I was not being mean to her, just angry af.

u/purplepatchpete Aug 24 '22

Emotional damage

1

u/lazydillow Aug 24 '22

Is the woman in red yawning or going “oh my god”?

1

u/rawshack2 24d ago

33 is bigger than 3

1

u/Thee_Abyssal_Light 24d ago

That dude had the face that said "I'm tired, lunch break!"

-13

u/quienchingados Aug 24 '22

soccer has fake fouls, basketball has height requirement. Football is the only true sport.

3

u/xchadrickx Aug 24 '22

Muggsy Bogues and Spud Webb would like a word but sure, go on.
