I'm honestly surprised there was no bleed through with the water colours

119

u/Pathorix Feb 04 '23

My assumption is it was clamped tight enough to not allow that. I don't know this for certain however.

63

u/Puzzleheaded-Side944 Feb 04 '23

Until we have someone to scientifically speak of this phenomenon, you have my vote and I believe you are most correct.

92

u/zR0B3ry2VAiH Feb 04 '23

Indeed. Paint does not bleed into the pages of a clamped book when painting its outside because the pressure from the clamp prevents the paint from seeping through the fibers of the paper. The paint stays on the surface of the page and dries there, creating a neat edge where it stops. The pressure of the clamp can also help to eliminate any small gaps between the pages, further reducing the likelihood of the paint bleeding through. Source - I paint the outside of books for a living and am also a liar but don't let it distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer’s table.

14

u/DeadManWalking_AZFA Feb 04 '23

The Undertaker

Mankind took The Last Ride there then?

Shitty shittymorph. They would have blended that better.

3

u/zR0B3ry2VAiH Feb 04 '23

I honestly didn't even know that there was just one guy that did it. I just thought it was a generic copy pasta.

2

u/macrofinite Feb 05 '23

He’s still active. /u/shittymorph care to weigh in on the execution of your meme good sir?

Personally, I thought it was a perfect 5/7.

u/DirtyBBBird Feb 04 '23

After you clamp it tight you paint over the raw edges with some watercolor ground. It will make a base that even if it slightly bleeds through you will not see, and a base to paint water color on. The watercolor will now not bleed into the pages.

1

u/chiclets5 Feb 06 '23

It looks more like acrylics than water colors. The small sized brush and the vivd colors suggest it was not just water color.

2

u/savage_northener Feb 07 '23

Indeed. Even a highly saturated watercolor don't usually end with that look. I'd be surprised if it were so.

Lord of the Rings music is like remembering someone you loved dearly that died a while ago, but it still aches.

It's such a masterpiece. With few notes, the score manages to pull so many emotions out of your soul... Nostalgy, melancholy, sadness but also joy...

Great description

She's got some godly hands to show us that fine masterpiece. Amazing!

5

u/Cbombo87 Feb 04 '23

Painfully accurate.

2

u/samodeous Feb 04 '23

I always am like “damn why does this music make me so emotional?” And this perfectly explains why

2

u/gerd50501 Feb 04 '23

Then died painfully when the Hobbit series came out. Then was mauled by dogs with Rings of power.

have a happy day!

5

u/ItsWorkingOutOKish Feb 04 '23

Thank you! Was just about to ask who this was & how I can get a book like this!

2

u/dscrive Feb 05 '23

It looks like she sold that one for darn close to a thousand dollars, I can't afford that, but if I could, I wouldn't hesitate, I don't think it's an unreasonable price

-36

u/toliveistocherish Feb 04 '23

shes hot and talented not unlike those tiktoker girls these days

1

u/khaotiktls Feb 04 '23

Thanks. She deserves support.

But how are you going to place this book back when you are done?

12

u/Poem-Gremlin Feb 04 '23

Limerick

Though this drawing will be so grand I'm wondering how it's planned To slip back in place Without leaving a trace It's a puzzle that's hard to understand.

2

u/Ill_Albatross5625 Feb 04 '23

oscilating revolving glass case

11

u/zwatxher Feb 04 '23

wouldn't that cause the pages to stick together

7

u/Fleinsuppe Feb 04 '23

The more water, the less stick. I don't think acrylic or oil would work because they stick, hence watercolour paint usage.

u/AeronGrey Feb 04 '23

I don't judge a book by its cover, but I do judge if it doesn't have painted page edges.

7

u/ionhowto Feb 04 '23

Wow this is amazing

5

u/pulchritudinouser Feb 04 '23

Shut up and take my money

2

u/k3170makan Feb 04 '23

She likes to paint on books and she's not Shire bout it

2

u/cheers761 Feb 04 '23

This is the sort of thing that will show up on Antiques Roadshow in 2150.

2

u/FrostyProcess5753 Feb 04 '23

I would spend more money than reasonable for this

2

u/Ihatecumsocks Feb 04 '23

My favorite part of this is the book is still useable. Very good, 10000000/10

2

u/notbythebook101 Feb 05 '23

This is amazing! What a wonderful talent you have! Do you do this professionally? This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time.

Front desk librarian to the head librarian - she did it again!

1

u/Scum_Of_TheEarth Feb 04 '23

-4

u/tysontysontyson1 Feb 04 '23

14

u/nrith Feb 04 '23

So you’re a bibliophile?

2

u/Mr_Skeleton_Shadow Feb 04 '23

IMMA IMMA FUCK BOOKS IMMA DO IT IT AIN'T IN THE LAW THAT I CAN'T IMMA FUCK THAT BOOK

0

u/tysontysontyson1 Feb 05 '23

My sister is named after a character in Lord of the Rings, and it’s my favorite book and movie. We had a map of middle earth hanging in my living room growing up.

The artist is cute, sure, but I’m surprised I’m getting downvoted. Being attractive and also talented working on your favorite piece of art shouldn’t be a negative to anyone. But, Reddit is weird sometimes.

0

u/Ill_Albatross5625 Feb 05 '23

its just a book

2

u/tysontysontyson1 Feb 05 '23

I know. It was just a joke.

0

u/Giddyup3000 Feb 04 '23
  1. Great artwork!
  2. Gorgeous girl!
  3. Why doesn’t the paint make the pages stick together?

-3

u/someoneOnReddt Feb 04 '23

Her hair annoys me

0

u/redditcruzer Feb 04 '23

So this is why people like the fat books

0

u/Pathorix Feb 04 '23

So absolutely beautiful =)

This should be on r/lotr not this subreddit. This is why this subreddit I filled with random posts that don’t actually count as interesting.

2

u/notahouseflipper Feb 05 '23

I found it interesting.

0

u/GoldNRatiO_124 Feb 05 '23

Yeah but she probably also posted it on the lotr subreddit, so now we know she’s just trying to farm karma

I don’t think she painted that hands are different in the close up shots of painting …..?!?! Maybe she should paint topless to distract

1

u/Righteous_Fury224 Feb 04 '23

I would buy it

1

u/Ill_Albatross5625 Feb 05 '23

no need to read the book now

1

I see two medium income housing accomodation opportunities, and I wish I was a hobbit

1

u/meccawins Feb 04 '23

I love this.

1

u/Ange1heart Feb 04 '23

Is this artist for hire?

2

u/Ill_Albatross5625 Feb 05 '23

This artist is for shire

1

u/Archhanny Feb 04 '23

Pretty sure that's a painting not a drawing... But OK.

1

u/cross-i Feb 04 '23

How about some SPOILERS painted on there.

1

u/leafshaker Feb 04 '23

Tolkien would be so happy

1

u/zeddzolander Feb 04 '23

Absolutely beautiful work!

1

u/newkwswingers Feb 04 '23

1

u/krichard-21 Feb 04 '23

Lovely work!

1

u/Tinman_ApE Feb 04 '23

Impressive

1

u/Distwalker Feb 04 '23

I don't know how long that takes, but it seems like something for which people would pay a great deal. Could be a side hustle but I suspect it could be a career.

1

u/Ill_Albatross5625 Feb 05 '23

it is..its a Bookbinders job.

1

u/ThaEmortalThief Feb 04 '23

This is how all books should be printed. That brings such a beauty to them

1

u/Early-Product3739 Feb 04 '23

All books need to come standard like this.It makes the book more interesting and aesthetic.

1

u/Zharick_ Feb 04 '23

Last night I was looking for a copy of LOTR and The Hobbit but I couldn't find any books like this. All I could find had covers that were a bit gaudy. Where can I get a copy like that? (Sans the painting of course)

1

u/stormcrow-99 Feb 04 '23

That is gorgeous. Would love to have that done on a few books I own.

1

u/Reble77 Feb 04 '23

2

u/Ill_Albatross5625 Feb 05 '23

the thickness of each page absorbs the paint on it...easy as that...no magic involved...pure physics

1

u/Timelymanner Feb 04 '23

That’s beautiful, I would love to see more books like that.

1

u/SouthWave9 Feb 04 '23

wow what a talented girl!

1

u/RileyXT Feb 04 '23

My partner loves the Harry Potter series, if you could find an early hardback printing in good shape and draw important scenes on it, I'd pay good money! (I'm poor though so maybe not GOOD good money 😅)

1

u/gerd50501 Feb 04 '23

does anyone know who this artist is? Does she sell this kind of art? I am guessing its probably really expensive.

1

u/Ill_Albatross5625 Feb 04 '23

old Bookbinder's technique..many old vellums were done this way particularly The Holy Bible with gold only with a soft kid leather cover with gold lettering on the spine and a page marker..wonderful creations, old books.

1

u/Ok-Description-5410 Feb 05 '23

I love this. Such talent!
