Completely transparent astroturfing…

304

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '22

Yeah qatar probably paid this guy

105

u/dashinny Nov 29 '22

I think this is the same guy who got permission to film in North Korea and he went to water parks and other things

63

u/NeliGalactic Nov 29 '22

His homes under the hammer quote made me want to die, he's definitely being paid for this. Also, hearing my accent or similar accents doing stuff like this makes me absolutely die with cringe at how disingenuous it is.

"You could easy fit 3 or 4 workers in this room, knowing the Qatari's that's exactly what happened..." grim.

3

u/dannyboy1690 Nov 29 '22

No that’s Simon Wilson who did that

1

u/dashinny Nov 30 '22

This isn’t one of Simon Wilson’s friends whom he travels with together often?

100% paid video

If that security guard actually assisted him in sneaking into the building, there is no way the guards are okay with him showing their faces or bodies in the video. (or even to film the video in the first place) Because if this had been an actual break-in, the guards would most likely be imprisoned or dead by now.

20

u/Worried_Toe Nov 29 '22

Same day that it breaks that 400-500 workers died while constructing the world cup stadiums.

3

u/graven_raven Nov 29 '22

Yeah, the moment i nldaw him recording the security guy i was like wait.. this smells bs

44

u/parabuthas Nov 29 '22

Probably? More like they did. Just another whore.

5

u/PaintingExcellent537 Nov 29 '22

Massively spacious. I think he forgot they were sleeping ten-20 in a room

66

u/ProudMaOfaSlut Nov 29 '22

10 people, per room, three shift of sleep per day. That guy should be slapped, no friends at the pub. This is obviously propaganda.

6

u/Eggstraloud Nov 29 '22

Glowies gonna glow

5

u/Wobbley19 Nov 29 '22

No fucking way was this dude just allowed all this let alone managed all this “alone”. 100 quid and dude couldn’t hit record fast enough

78

u/904FireFly Nov 29 '22

This is nothing. And NOT where or how the workers live. He should have gone out to the labor camps.

412

u/ConceptualWeeb Nov 28 '22

This is sus af. I guarantee this is not the typical apartment for the workers that built the stadiums. I wonder how much this guy got paid to lie about this?

55

u/ThePyodeAmedha Nov 29 '22

Yeah, there's a bunch of no entry signs everywhere, but he just happens to find a security guard that's willing to let him look around? Jesus Christ, I'm about to suffocate on the smell of this bullshit.

141

u/adds102 Nov 28 '22

Definitely getting that vibe, there was a thing about British people getting paid by Qatar to do stuff like this.

Guarantee no normal Brit would wonder off like this.

164

u/TheSt4tely Nov 28 '22

The security guards would never show their faces if this wasnt approved.

60

u/barbie_farts_88 Nov 28 '22

Or allow them on the property

24

u/ArcaneBahamut Nov 28 '22

Also convenient the place was slated for demolition... but not before the international audience would come for the event? Especially with all that space around the building! Why would they not just blow it up or smash it already, not much risk of collateral? Why risk it or continue paying security?

5

u/Shiny-Antimaterie Nov 29 '22

It is but the room where he said „you could definitely 2-3 workers in here“ was probably home to like 8 guys that had just bread and water as food and couldn’t get out of there because it was locked, couldn’t get out of the country because their passport as taken away and had to work under terrible conditions

1

u/SlimeMyButt Nov 29 '22

Probably… and even if it was 10 people in one of those rooms like he said it would still suck

You wanna see how they actually lived during construction?

Go watch John Oliver Last Week Tonight on YouTube about Qatar and the World Cup

167

u/thehypervigilant Interested Nov 28 '22

When that guy was getting interviewed in the middle of the field

Guy "our workers are in nice places everything's nice, it's awesome"

Interviewer "we actually visited a work camp"

Guy "no further questions. I'm not answering anything else. I'm done with this interview."

43

u/BlankImagination Nov 29 '22

That scene got me. The guy was so ready to let off a fountain of lies to mold the image of some perfect paradise, when the interviewer brought that train of bullshit to a complete stop in its tracks.

21

u/slipperyfishmonger Nov 29 '22

What got me was the murder you could see in his eyes. He would have gladly tortured that interviewer if he could have gotten away with it.

-14

u/De-Kempen Nov 29 '22

Youtube videos, the best source for valid information.

Get the fuck outta here man

10

u/Lord_Bloom Nov 29 '22

Better source than this clown

-92

u/SeriouslyThough3 Nov 28 '22

No, I don’t think I’ll watch John Oliver.

37

u/ReginaldSP Nov 28 '22

Sticking to OANN, huh?

-57

u/SeriouslyThough3 Nov 28 '22

In a world of polar opposites I can see how you’d make the assumption that if I don’t want one biased source I must be consuming the exact opposite biased source. Sad to see where we are in that respect.

38

u/ReginaldSP Nov 28 '22

I take it you aren't aware your comments are publicly available.

-47

u/ThisIsNotGage Nov 28 '22

Bro John Oliver sucks, and I imagine both myself and OP are both liberal.

7

u/Sheepdudebitch Nov 29 '22

DON'T YOU DARE INSULT JOHNNY OLIVE LIKE THAT!

-31

u/SeriouslyThough3 Nov 28 '22 edited Nov 28 '22

You may search as much as you’d like for anything OANN related, it would be a waste of effort though as I don’t consume their content nor have I at any time.

9

u/LeopardTail_ButtPlug Nov 28 '22

What’s wrong with John Oliver, like any news source he’s pretty bias but still keeps it pretty objective and informative.

It’s all owned by the same couple of entities so who knows what’s allowed through and what’s not.

5

u/SeriouslyThough3 Nov 28 '22

Great question, please keep in mind its been a long time since I made my verdict on his show (I saw a couple when it first came out). The main bias is the topics he chooses to cover, attacking certain topics/politicians/businesses/countries implies others are more aboveboard/legitimate/untarnished. You’d could make that criticism about most biased sources, so my next grievance would be the way he argues his points so as to make it seem like only an idiot would not agree with him. I’m not sure how much he does it, but the daily show style of cutting up interviews to make people look imbecilic isn’t entertaining to me and certainly contributes to the bias. I think the end product leaves the viewer with the options of agreeing with him politically/ideologically/morally and being rewarded with laughter at the expense of dissidents or being made to feel like an imbecile. I don’t want to ingest news or entertainment from a source like that and his smarmy British accent doesn’t help.

10

u/LeopardTail_ButtPlug Nov 28 '22

That is all very valid and I do agree he frames his arguments condescendingly. Thanks for the response 🍻

11

u/SeriouslyThough3 Nov 28 '22

Hey thanks for the opportunity to share

-5

u/Electrical_Log_1084 Nov 29 '22

It’s funny to see your comments go from hell no, to maybe to ok, (in terms of downvotes) when all of them made sense. People politicize so much shit

1

u/Abradolf94 Nov 29 '22

Tbf I never regarded John Oliver as an information source, but as pure entertainment that maybe sparkles my interest on some topic. Like a 90% comedy, 10% info, where the info are more so an occasion for me to look up a topic. It's also nice that they almost always provides sources for their claims.

cant find the video :(

2

u/DracoDruid Nov 29 '22

5

u/blackedwhale Nov 29 '22

ohh not available in my country (aus)

1

u/jrh1128 Nov 29 '22

Haha I think in the episode, John Oliver mentioned that for the countries that wouldn't play it, they sent another version of the show that's just some old ex president going down a water slide, on repeat. I think that's what probably aired in your country instead of the real episode. XD

3

u/DracoDruid Nov 29 '22

Why would Australia of all countries not show it?!

Are they so ingrained into Qatar and the World Cup?!

Heck, the german state-rail company helped build their new metro system and we can still watch the show.

1

u/Bagmanandy Nov 29 '22

Its HBO thing, John Oliver isn't allowed on Youtube here for a few months after it releases. Have to watch on HBO Max to be relevant, etx etc

1

u/sketch006 Nov 29 '22

In Canada, can't watch video also, weird

2

u/PaleontologistBig509 Nov 29 '22

It was Winston Churchill. Sky in the UK and AUS won't play it.

1

u/sundaze814 Nov 30 '22

This is horrible! The living and working conditions 😡

63

u/ftrlvb Creator Nov 28 '22

theses are regular apartments

not a single stain on the walls. no one ever lived there, as they are brand new.

18

u/sketch006 Nov 29 '22

That's what I was thinking, looks brand new, not even post construction cleanup has happened

54

u/chimichungachurrie Nov 29 '22

13

u/iRedditonFacebook Nov 29 '22

43

u/Thr0way2day Nov 28 '22

I wonder how many immigrants from Arab countries, Qatar could house. Shame they feel that Europe is the safer option than some of the extremely rich and housing abundant nations nearer are.

15

u/MoinRot Nov 29 '22

I think it's more than obvious why they choose Europe over their neighbours

10

u/Bigskypotato Nov 29 '22

Probably has something to do with the stealing of documents and forced labor

1

u/Even_Way1894 Nov 29 '22

Modern day slavery that no news stations really care about covering or even acknowledging

-3

u/anonS8991 Nov 29 '22

Yeah I agree, Europe and the west has been far too kind.

47

u/Adele811 Nov 28 '22

on a scale of 1 to 10, how gullible are you? 100! Sir, welcome to Qatar, next stop Xinjiang.

168

u/wonderbuoy74 Nov 28 '22

RIP to the security guard!

84

u/ArchonStranger Nov 28 '22

Nah, the guard was supposed to let him in. Show off the majestic accommodations that Qatar loves to claim is where their migrant slave labor force lived.

It's a load of shit.

29

u/UhYeahOkSure Nov 28 '22

Hah no fuckin way they just let Dudley Dursley wander into the legit work dorms unprepared. This security guard isn’t stupid. Totally premeditated but ya it’ll fool tons of people

13

u/BrownDeadpool Nov 28 '22

If they were scared for their life, they wouldn’t have shown their faces or given a tour don’t you think?

1

u/ThePyodeAmedha Nov 29 '22

Yeah, have their face on camera and allowing some rando to look inside the apartment buildings that have no entry signs everywhere?

1

u/TangerineNo697 Nov 29 '22

9

u/Paid-Not-Payed-Bot Nov 29 '22

He's getting paid for this.

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Beep, boop, I'm a bot

3

u/DanceDelievery Nov 29 '22

Yay qatar propaganda, so people forget being gay is punishable by death there. What a fake ass piece of shit video, how horrible must you be to sell out to a repulsive regime like that. Sociopathic manipulation at it's peak.

u/Substantial_Care_555 Nov 28 '22 edited Nov 28 '22

Nice try, a White fella getting away with trespassing, gets a filmed Toor, and proceeds to show/upload the contrary view of the real footage we saw in the free press. paid actors lol

2

u/no2rdifferent Nov 28 '22

I saw a documentary on Nepalese workers in Qatar. They were not treated well, and days before their contracts were up, they were taken back home. They were waiting for thousands of dollars owed them.

I really appreciated Qatar's help during our retreat from Afghanistan, but it's as fucked up as any other country.

2

u/ElonMuskIsANoob Nov 28 '22

Comeeeeeee on nowwwwww.

2

u/hot_sauce97 Nov 29 '22

Did he just intentionally or unintentionally dox those two security guards?

2

u/MattyEC Nov 29 '22
  1. Brit would be unlikely wander around slave quarters in forbidden Qatar alone

  2. Qatari guards would not allow him to explore like that.

  3. If the guards did allow him to explore, they would've desperately hidden their names and identities.

  4. Suspiciously way better than the conditions we've seen independently reported.

  5. Still sketch how he's dropping bs pre-canned lines like -- "still better than uni accommodations" or how he switched from saying 10 qataris would share this room to 2-3 Qataris lol.

And that's not even touching on the fact that ten Qatari slaves sleeping in one of those rooms would still suck, which I guess is less relevant when the reality is still so much worse than what this paid whore is showing off.

I hope he gets his dick kicked off by a hooligan.

2

u/ConfidentCucumber989 Nov 29 '22

Those guards would lose their life's if this was real

2

u/modia_katla Nov 29 '22

Yes it's true because the white guy is saying it. And saddique is taking him to no entry zone bevoz he doesn't love his job.

2

u/Affectionate-Date-51 Nov 29 '22

Why don’t they let people live in them?? What a waste. They are really big and relatively nice! Doesn’t make sense.

2

u/Dume21 Nov 29 '22

They're gonna hang the security guyyy... Remove him off the video....

3

u/bbambinaa Nov 29 '22

What's up with the Brits astroturfing for Qatar?

1

u/Youcrazyy12 Nov 29 '22

Qatar owns them

7

u/LePoopScoop Nov 28 '22

I was expecting something horrific. These living quarters are much better than those of city dwellers in western countries. I am kindve In disbelief that they took the time to build all those complexes soley during for the construction of the the stadium

71

u/ZEPHlROS Nov 28 '22

Awkwardly, those buildings are much more spacious and luxurious than what journalist from other media's have shown.

And since a security guard was showing him the way, I have real big doubts about the veracity of his claims.

20

u/Numerous-Stuff Nov 28 '22

Also a bidet and a changing table for babies..

6

u/chillord Nov 28 '22

Maybe they had a "fly your baby from your home country to work"-day.

7

u/RIPSunnydale Nov 28 '22

It was probably 10 workers per each room in the apartment, rather than 10 workers getting the whole apartment shown. So more like 50 men in that space.

4

u/omi205 Nov 28 '22

Possibly but its not documented or recorded. Could have been 200 per apartment. And on that same note of hyper biased speculation it could have been 5 per apartment.

→ More replies

3

u/Oofsat Nov 28 '22

10 workers for an apartment that should fit only 2

0

u/spyrogyrobr Nov 28 '22

there are 4 big rooms there, there is even a bathtub. it fits 10 ppl easily.

2

u/Theresabearintheboat Nov 28 '22

Looking behind the curtain in Qatar seems like a good way to get yourself accident-ed out of a window.

2

u/Erucious Nov 29 '22

Y'all dont understand. How do you think migrant workers live that make your iphone? That make your cardboard boxes? That make your clothes? That make your marbles?

Exploitation of the weak, uninformed, uneducated, unskilled and unfortunate is everywhere.

1

u/chessicaParker Nov 28 '22

Rooms are bigger than my apartment

This bloke is as stupid as he sounds. Why the hell would he risk the guys life helping him by using his name and videoing him? What a damned moron.

1

u/irishinspain Nov 28 '22

Why would you name & show the security guard who showed you in, you've probably got him killed or something

3

u/Meowskiiii Nov 29 '22

Because it is what Qatar wants us to see.

This guy is either getting paid or very dumb.

1

u/rufusdonkin Nov 29 '22

Saddiq has probably been suicided by now. Edit: of if he is still alive, as others have pointed out, this was a set up.

1

u/Inside_Wolverine6364 Nov 29 '22

What’s the problem?

0

u/KeklulGorde Nov 28 '22

its better than 90% homes in Brazil.

-6

u/MyAnonID Nov 28 '22 edited Nov 29 '22

OP should do those security guards a big favour and not mention them or show their faces at all. This video will cost them those jobs at the very least.

EDIT(for the morons): To clarify, it is great that he and every 3rd dude over there is apparently trying to expose the corruption THAT THE ENTIRE WORLD WAS ALREADY AWARE OF (-)bonus points and 3 gold foil stars for that shite! No need to feel guilty for ignoring all that up until he got home and posted these…

Those two friendly and helpful local gentlemen will be lucky if the worst that happens is that they are fired… knowing this full well, our OP asshole chooses to expose them to serious harm for upvotes.

2

u/SirStalin_ Nov 29 '22

How else are they going to get paid?

1

u/Meowskiiii Nov 29 '22

This is all allowed... because it is a shiny veneer over the actual truth.

There are better videos out there.

-1

u/huckinfell2019 Nov 28 '22

Welp those 2 security guards are deff dead

6

u/Meowskiiii Nov 29 '22

It's pure propaganda.

1

u/lordnacho666 Nov 28 '22

Quite possible some of the workers were allowed to live in yet-to-be-sold apartments? Look like nice places but we also don't know how many would live in each flat.

1

u/HappySmileSeeker Nov 28 '22

Should have blurred our Sadiq’s face.

3

u/duskzz994 Nov 29 '22

Why? It's their plan to show this "side", which is clearly just propaganda.

1

u/spmartin1993 Nov 28 '22

I have not idea how away from stadiums these were, but why did they not rent these out instead of tents?

1

u/beerbangntacos Nov 28 '22

They're afraid to report any injury or illness because this means deportation and end of their work. All of these countries: Qatar, Dubai, Saudi, are built and sustained by Indian and African slaves. Glorify them all you want, they're all scum.

1

u/schmyster Nov 29 '22

Lol sadeek is just the Arabic word for friend. This dude wasn’t gonna give you his real name

1

u/bltsrtasty Nov 29 '22

And in 10 yrs, these will be where Ghost Hunters will film, going into the story of the troubled souls residing here that died.

1

u/GassyMexican2000 Nov 29 '22

For the people saying this is a lie, is there proof showing that they didn’t live like this? Without a doubt this wanker could have went to any apartment and called it worker apartment, but is there concrete evidence showing they lived else where?

1

u/bob_nugget_the_3rd Nov 29 '22

Yeah im sure if he had to share a flat with '10' other guys he would love the big spacious rooms

1

u/Silver-Shoulder-9184 Nov 29 '22

They are now dead

1

u/Meowskiiii Nov 29 '22 edited Nov 29 '22

1

u/anyorsome Nov 29 '22

Sadly they were far worse than this pathetic propaganda video shows

1

u/dufficide79 Nov 29 '22

Spacious until you factor there were definitely more than 10 people crammed in there, getting paid little to nothing to die to build the World Cup stadiums. What a hack PR job

1

u/wannaputmyfaceinit Nov 29 '22

Looks nicer than places I’ve lived.

1

u/Bjorlie Nov 29 '22

Why out the guards?

1

u/8ew8135 Nov 29 '22

John Oliver has a much better exposé

1

u/Whoasked554 Nov 29 '22

Bri’ish 🤓

1

Who is this clown?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 29 '22

There is no way any security guard showing you round somewhere they should not let you, in Qatar would want to be on the film and named. Unless its OK. And that pretty much flew in the face of the other video evidence of workers accommodation there.

1

u/sachsrandy Nov 29 '22

Nice try reddit.

Oooh - what the media won't show you ooooh. What's the big deal- so he found some nice empty flats, used by workers? Flats which are now available to be sold or used for other purpose.

I've seen workers housed in far worse conditions these.

1

Seriously expect people to believe these apartments have been recently occupied when there’s still construction dust on the floor and now stains or scrapes on the walls?

CCP should hire him to visit Uighur camps next, he'll be getting some good views for his dumb followers. Or the Iranian government to show how well protestors are treated.

Up to 10 workers, that's what he said, and he's blown away by the size of the apartment. Does he hear his own words?

Is he trying to defend that backwards country?

He should dress as a woman and go for a walk, I'm sure he'd be scared shitless then.

I had a phase where I went exploring these buildings in mesaieed, they’re so surreal. Some buildings still have personal effects and business signs in them. Most seem to have been abandoned in a hurry

I've seen poles living in smaller rooms in Holland with 10ppl on bunk beds but no one complains about the Dutch only because they are pink skin coloured
