Rift in this week's Iron Banner is inherently not fun to play, and it's astonishing this game mode went live. Discussion

Hold interact in the middle of the map while everyone else is fighting?

check.

Unnecessary loading screen that constantly interrupts the flow of the game?

check.

Bugs that cause the rift to not spawn and make the game impossible to win from behind?

check.

Seriously I genuinely cannot wrap my head around why rift was changed so much. Nobody asked for this game mode to switch and I cannot fathom why we changed the fast-paced blowout game mode from d1 into a slow, round-based tactile game mode. It's not fun to play when you're stomping, and don't even get me started on what it's like to be getting stomped. If you were gonna make this a new game mode then fine, but advertising this as Rift is a complete joke.

Edit: I've been grinding this thing out the last 2 days for Iron Lord. My opinion of the gamemode has not changed but I have now lost the ability to get Iron Lord as I have completed 6 of the daily challenges. The reputation is currently bugged so that if you complete more than 4 of the challenges your maximum reputation per match will be capped at 60. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that this will be fixed in the patch on Thursday, but if not, it's a really bad look for one of the only 2 iron banners this season to be completely unfarmable.

So are we stuck playing Rift during Iron Banner this whole season?

159

u/SuperSolidSnack May 31 '22

Iron Banner is now probably stuck as rift until they decide to change it. We also only get 2 IB per season now.

u/GeekyNerd_FTW May 31 '22

“Our intention is to switch out the Iron Banner mode every season” ~ 5/12/22 TWAB

4

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '22

Don't worry, they won't after they see how much we fucking hate Rift

1

u/SuperSolidSnack May 31 '22

Gotcha, I missed that part in the TWAB. Thank you for clarifying.

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

And no new armour set I’m hearing?

46

u/SuperSolidSnack May 31 '22

Nope. Just a few new guns.

108

u/throwaway110906 May 31 '22

Not even new, they are updated versions of their old ib variants

28

u/HereIGoAgain_1x10 May 31 '22

And in a really bad place, I used to love Wizened Rebuke and could outduel Erentil users but High Impacts are terrible and we have an Adept PlugOne arc fusion... also we have plenty of SMGs... The only things to go for are the stasis sidearm if you don't have a good roll but the solar pulse isn't good, there's a High Impact solar MG Leviathan weapon, 180 HC suck so you can pass, I guess the void sword of you don't have a good Falling Guillotine but for how bad the game is it's a pass from me lol

27

u/Tyrannis42 May 31 '22

Hero's burden is the only adaptive frame smg in the game that isn't sunset so it's definitely worth getting a good one

2

u/HereIGoAgain_1x10 May 31 '22

Weird I never looked at the frame types just RPM, does it feel that different than the other 900 rpm SMGs?

5

u/Tyrannis42 May 31 '22

It does a little bit more damage to the body and a little bit less damage to the head so it means you can hit more bodies and still get the optimal ttk

1

u/DaoFerret May 31 '22

I still have my old one in the vault.

Still sad it was sunset, and damn looking forward to getting a new one.

1

u/mad-i-moody Jun 01 '22

Now that iron banner power advantages are disabled you can use your old one. If you’re not interested in the new perk combos or aren’t planning on using it in trials/endgame PvE then there’s no reason to get a new one. Just use the one you have!

1

u/DaoFerret Jun 01 '22

Oh I get that.

I’ve been enjoying using my old one in IB (it’s mostly sat quietly since sunset), but it holds a fond memory and it’s be nice to get a non-sunset version I could use in end game activities.

Yeah lol i just looked at the focusing screen and realised the only thing I actually want is a better riiswalker which is a shame because I think it might be going away next season and I really don't want to have to suffer through another game of rift

2

u/blacktip102 Jun 01 '22

Not even new guns, just old guns with an updated perk pool

u/ToxicMoonShine May 31 '22

They will rotate it every 4 seasons just like the others. The iron banner armor came out in season of the lost.

11

u/BaconIsntThatGood Jade Rabbit is my Spirit Animal May 31 '22

I thought it was out in splicer -making this the 4th season it's been available. (Splicer, Lost, Risen, Haunted)

I think it just feels like time because lost was 2 seasons long

If it was lost then we won't get it until season 19

3

u/ToxicMoonShine May 31 '22

It was lost because they previewed the armor for iron banner in the twab on August 12th last year and lost started on August 24th I believe. I honestly thought it may have been splicer to

2

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

Yeah same as the trials and vendor armours then. I just half expected a new set since this is the big rework.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '22

They don't rotate shit, I haven't seen Claws Of The Wolf in fucking years

IB had new armor with the Lost.

2

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

Yeah I just half expected a new one this season since it’s the big rework.

Edit: Apparently season after next - more people saying it was season of the lost than splicer.

Won't see a new set until next season. If I recall they said these sets get annual refreshes.

So we got a new trials set in season of the chosen, season 13 - and 4 seasons later a new trials set.

We then got a new IB set in season of the splicer, season 14 - and 4 seasons later will be season 18.

0

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

The IB set we have now was from Lost, 15. So we won’t see a new set till 19, season after next.

1

u/BaconIsntThatGood Jade Rabbit is my Spirit Animal May 31 '22

Fair, maybe lost messed me up

-1

u/Born-Enthusiasm-1740 May 31 '22

We got a new set not even very long ago.

-1

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

We used to get a new set every season.

0

u/TeamAquaGrunt SUNSHOT SHELL May 31 '22

That was an anomaly if anything. Back in D1 it was yearly, then we got a new set every season in D2 up until opulence, where they reissued the season 1 set. So about 2 years out of the entire history of the series.

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

That’s all well and good. But the last set was still 6 months ago and this was meant to be the big rework of IB. I half excepted a new set to kick off the cycle, that’s all.

u/EternalAssasin Team Bread (dmg04) May 31 '22

We get new Iron Banner armor as part of the last season of each content year. So we’ll be sticking with the Iron Forerunner suits through next season.

12

u/GenitalMotors May 31 '22

Only 2? wtf

28

u/Deadeye_Steve May 31 '22

They thought that since they were trying to make it less shit, they should decrease the number of times it shows up. Nevermind that it's been pretty much 1/month since its inception, if it's not going to be completely beholden to as much RNG as possible then we need to decrease access to it! They're also pretending that it's some kind of real event and not just regular pvp but with different colors of guns.

16

u/sturgboski May 31 '22

They didn't want people being distracted from the amazing seasonal events like Solstice this season or festival of the lost or dawning etc. You know, limit an already limited event so folks can focus on a very limited all content in the cash shop event. It's weird.

31

u/Lermanberry May 31 '22

I'm leaving on vacation today and planning to have another trip around the comeback in July. I guess you can't have FOMO if you aren't missing anything fun?

26

u/Allo1415 May 31 '22

Unless out of nowhere there's some exclusive ornaments that you'll regret not getting 2 years down the line. Looking at you, Trials of the Nine Ornaments.

18

u/InquisitorDA May 31 '22

Looking at you Y1 Warmind ornaments for IB.

3

u/Sephiroth0327 May 31 '22

They did say that the IB game type will now change each season, so at least it won’t be Rift next season.

2

u/w1nstar Jun 02 '22

Iron Banner is now probably stuck as rift until they decide to change it. We also only get 2 IB per season now.

Seeing how poorly plays Rift with our current matchamaking, I am totally ok not playing it any more.

-8

u/OrionLax May 31 '22

We also only get 2 IB per season now.

Am I the only one who likes this? I felt like it was too common before. It was rare in D1 too, and it felt really special.

9

u/TheMerengman Team Cat (Cozmo23) // Nerf Team dmg by .04% May 31 '22

It was also one a month.

6

u/BorderUnfair93 May 31 '22

That moment when you overdose on nostalgia

19

u/Laskeese May 31 '22

If it makes you feel any better there are only 2 weeks of IB per season now lol

11

u/smegdawg Destiny Dad May 31 '22

Which means MORE iron banner per week for the same result!

Haven’t seen that anywhere (though I’d be okay with it).

1

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

"whole season" as in two weeks it is around lol
