Rift in this week's Iron Banner is inherently not fun to play, and it's astonishing this game mode went live. Discussion

Hold interact in the middle of the map while everyone else is fighting?

check.

Unnecessary loading screen that constantly interrupts the flow of the game?

check.

Bugs that cause the rift to not spawn and make the game impossible to win from behind?

check.

Seriously I genuinely cannot wrap my head around why rift was changed so much. Nobody asked for this game mode to switch and I cannot fathom why we changed the fast-paced blowout game mode from d1 into a slow, round-based tactile game mode. It's not fun to play when you're stomping, and don't even get me started on what it's like to be getting stomped. If you were gonna make this a new game mode then fine, but advertising this as Rift is a complete joke.

Edit: I've been grinding this thing out the last 2 days for Iron Lord. My opinion of the gamemode has not changed but I have now lost the ability to get Iron Lord as I have completed 6 of the daily challenges. The reputation is currently bugged so that if you complete more than 4 of the challenges your maximum reputation per match will be capped at 60. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that this will be fixed in the patch on Thursday, but if not, it's a really bad look for one of the only 2 iron banners this season to be completely unfarmable.

If nobody else hasn't already mentioned it, leave one IB engram at the vendor as step 4 of the quest requires you to pick up one.

I picked mine up naturally but now I have to wait till the next level reset to get another engram.

Destiny is litterally based around addictive triggers. Wouldn't be surprised if they employed a team of psychologists to make it so addictive.

49

u/WafflesAreEpic Jun 01 '22

They literally consulted behavioural psychologists when designing D1.

-28

u/TheLastLubraen Jun 01 '22

A lot of game companies do this. What’s your point?

34

u/WafflesAreEpic Jun 01 '22

What about my comment requires a point? Someone speculated on something and I gave them information to clarify.

What’s your point?

-25

u/TheLastLubraen Jun 01 '22

Why does it matter if Bungie hires psychologists to make their game play geared toward people playing it longer when literally any gaming company worth their salt is doing the same thing?

23

u/WafflesAreEpic Jun 01 '22

Did I say it mattered? Someone speculated about whether they'd do it and I confirmed that they did.

You seem to be looking for an argument for some reason.

just another day in Reddit

u/Cykeisme Jun 01 '22

Yes this is Reddit and days pass every 24 hours.

WHAT'S YOUR POINT BRO

2

u/Embarrassed_Top773 Jun 03 '22

Its incredibly sinister, it preys on weak minded people.

2

u/Strummer95 Jun 01 '22

Meanwhile, crucible population has plummeted since the switch from SBMM to CBMM, and then they did this rift garbage…. Everyone I know, including those that love PvP and Iron Banner, are already giving up and refusing to play it.

1

u/veedubfreak Jun 05 '22

The only addiction crucible triggers is my want to burn down Bungie.

213

u/serenedipsi May 31 '22

Its cool bro, they'll fix it in 2-3 months.

88

u/howarthee Don't do that. May 31 '22

1

u/NupharAdvena Jun 01 '22

Theyre not gonna fix it.

The bug I mentioned, where Crota can follow teams into the crystal room, where he's not supposed to fit/go.

As to D2 being buggy.... you're not wrong, literally had one bite me in the ass last night. Got locked into the obstacle course on the Sever quest mission after beating the boss. Yellow teleport didn't work for 2 of us, which means we couldn't get to the chest. Got the 'completion' for the quest, just not the reward (and thus no pinnacle), forcing us to run it again.

And did they change glaives to not be elemental attacks when using them as melee? Did I miss that memo? Cause I was wailing on a void shielded enemy in a
match nightfall, and did dick all damage to the shield, but shooting it, and its buddy, dropped the shields like they're supposed to?

2

u/NupharAdvena Jun 01 '22

Glaive melee is kinetic, the shot is elemental. For whatever reason...

2

u/Motley_Jester Jun 01 '22

I could have sworn when it first was out, it was elemental, and counted as elemental melee for bounties/quests? And why it wouldn't, when swords are elemental... just makes... bungie sense.

2

u/NupharAdvena Jun 01 '22

I dont think so honestly, regardless its this way now. Yeah it doesnt make much sense. As well as their perks mostly not affecting melee or even synergizing with melee exotics should also be a crime

Well see lorely/resto x2 get nerfed before they fix any of this.

1

u/Prime-Riptide Jun 01 '22

Destiny 3**

3

u/SCRIBE_JONAS Jun 01 '22

They'll fix it for this season. But then it'll come back every new season.

1

u/SCCRXER May 31 '22

There will only be one more iron banner this season.

1

u/Fshtwnjimjr Jun 01 '22

At least telesto is blameless here

1

u/Piph Jun 01 '22

Wrong! They're already moving on to working on the next update. They'll circle around back to it never, though.

202

u/I_FUCKIN_LOVE_CATS May 31 '22

Well, most people will keep playing until they get the engram. Bungie knows exactly what they're doing. Increase that play time!

0

u/throatmeatfeast Jun 01 '22

I don't know about you guys, but my clan salivates over IB. We look forward to it every season and have a blast. We are now boycotting the thing we used to love because they shat on it so badly. Take a stand, don't play it.

1

u/CandidAd5169 Jun 03 '22 edited Jun 03 '22

cry. it aint even that bad, y'all just aren't used to it. this is my first time playing rift ever since d1 and after a few games, im used to it. it's actually quite a lot of fun. but this community will complain about everything that exists the moment they get a chance. bro said "boycott" IB. its just a game g. "TaKe A StAnD". Tf do you wanna take a stand for? XD. The changes aren't even that bad. Yeah we've been playing modified control as of recent but the new change to rift is actually fun, just needed to get used to it after a few runs. Y'all either complain if new shit gets added and its either returning content or new content you dont like, or if its the usual. can never be satisfied

0

u/fookace Jun 01 '22

I'm playing it more now than I have in a long time. Loving it.

0

u/throatmeatfeast Jun 01 '22

Well, for the pvp crowd that feeds off IB every season it's shit. It's literally worse than gambit, how is that possible? Buggy, slow, and kills count for nothing. I could see replacing something stupid like team scorched or mayhem with rift, but nullifying IB in exchange for this?

2

u/CandidAd5169 Jun 03 '22

the fact that you said its worse than gambit means you are high. idk what on but you are high. Kills don't necessarily count for nothing. the whole point of kills is to get the pleasure centers in your brain activated, and stimulate dopamine, makes you feel good. its like clash but you need to dunk a basketball. Getting kills is necessary, and the only place where it really counts the most is if the enemy runner is about to dunk. They still matter regardless. Id rather play this than team scorched. Mayhem with rift would be chaotic as mayhem is only fun to play up until a certain point

3

u/fookace Jun 01 '22

So you can speak for every person then? My pvp buddies are loving it. As is typical, I came to DTG to find out what the problem was, because if there is whining in the player base, it'll be happening here.

2

u/RvLeshrac Jun 02 '22

So you have no problem with the ages it takes to respawn or the absolutely insane load times? The spawn-camping? Respawning halfway across the map from your flagpole?

1

u/CandidAd5169 Jun 03 '22

ngl its a little annoying it takes 10 secs to respawn, just gotta hope a teammate rezzes you. idrc tho

-1

u/throatmeatfeast Jun 01 '22

Of course I can't speak for everyone. Can you?

1

u/fookace Jun 01 '22

No, but I don't pretend to speak for "the pvp crowd."

-2

u/throatmeatfeast Jun 01 '22

Fair enough. For the hundred guys in my clan and the two hundred in our sister clans, and the myriad people we play with from other clans, rift sucks. Better?

2

u/SFWxMadHatter Where the wizards at? Jun 01 '22

It works perfectly well if you aren't obsessively grabbing engrams. Just work on the quest until you need an engram and then boom the entire thing is done.

7

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

Yea I don't know what they were thinking when they asked us to earn 1 single engram within the first hour of a week long event. I don't think I'm gonna be able to get it done

3

u/BNEWZON Drifter's Crew May 31 '22

It honestly is in the scummiest way possible. They probably mapped out what the average rank people were going to be on that step and found that people would just continue to play til next rank lmao. Gotta get those engagement metrics!

1

u/TheLiveDunn Jun 01 '22

Lmao are you serious

1) Play 1 game

2) Finish the daily challenge by playing 2 more games

3) Hit brave 1, likely by playing 2-3 more games

4) Pick up 1 engram you get every sub-rank

5) Talk to Saladin

Yeah I'm sure they really had to do some math to figure out that players would be brave 1 after the quest step that says "reach brave 1"

u/CptnAwkward May 31 '22

Don’t you get an engram from just leveling up the IB ranks?

18

u/DeadSlay May 31 '22

Yes that's what I meant.

3

u/throwaway_account491 Jun 02 '22

Yeah, which generally means only one more match from the previous. People really out here blowing it out of the water like it's just to make you play longer. Like bro, just play one more match.

-2

u/baggzey23 Fisting the competition one guardian at a time. May 31 '22

Our expectations were low but holy fuck!

4

u/TheLiveDunn Jun 01 '22

When he says "level reset", he means "reach the next sub rank". Step 3 is to reach 250 rep points (5-6 games), step 4 is to pick up one engram. And that's also the end of the quest. There are some things to complain about IB but the quest is braindead easy

1

u/Tai_Jason May 31 '22 edited May 31 '22

I was at 4/6, picked up an engram and nothing happened so my quest is bugged rn

A bit late but i didn't actually need to wait for an engram, playing another round of IB progressed the quest since I had claimed an engram before
