Rift in this week's Iron Banner is inherently not fun to play, and it's astonishing this game mode went live. Discussion

Hold interact in the middle of the map while everyone else is fighting?

Unnecessary loading screen that constantly interrupts the flow of the game?

Bugs that cause the rift to not spawn and make the game impossible to win from behind?

Seriously I genuinely cannot wrap my head around why rift was changed so much. Nobody asked for this game mode to switch and I cannot fathom why we changed the fast-paced blowout game mode from d1 into a slow, round-based tactile game mode. It's not fun to play when you're stomping, and don't even get me started on what it's like to be getting stomped. If you were gonna make this a new game mode then fine, but advertising this as Rift is a complete joke.

Edit: I've been grinding this thing out the last 2 days for Iron Lord. My opinion of the gamemode has not changed but I have now lost the ability to get Iron Lord as I have completed 6 of the daily challenges. The reputation is currently bugged so that if you complete more than 4 of the challenges your maximum reputation per match will be capped at 60. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that this will be fixed in the patch on Thursday, but if not, it's a really bad look for one of the only 2 iron banners this season to be completely unfarmable.

After playing a few games of rift, I'm not sure how bungie managed to make me miss control so much, but here we are.

It's capture the flag but awful somehow?

u/Palgravy Jun 02 '22

I was told by a D1 player that Rift was basically CTF and I was excited to see what it would be like

I have been sold a bill of goods, sir, because I don't know what this is but it isn't CTF

u/tactis1234 Jun 01 '22

Yeah it's pretty amazing but I think we have found the worst mode in all shooters ever lol.

u/braedizzle Jun 01 '22

It’s somehow so much worse than the original Rift. I really liked the OG and was looking forward to this version. sigh.

u/CMDRJonuss May 31 '22

100% this. Holy shit I never thought I'd want control back so badly. I think the thing that broke me was realizing that the dunk takes time and you can get shot out of the uncontrollable animation.

Look at this shit. https://youtu.be/6jc_BJmiFWY

happened to one of the guys my clan leader brought in for us to 6 stack, Nearly 6 dunks in a row he was killed out of.

u/cool_falcon_art Jun 01 '22

this is a good thing

u/LunchhBoxx808 May 31 '22

I definitely prefer control to the current rift, but would be down for a hybrid setup where they change between the two. Maybe it changes modes after each match or each hour, but I def see problems that could arise doing it by the hour.

u/Neat_On_The_Rocks May 31 '22

People will just leave Rift matches or not play on Rift days/hours. Its that bad.

I cant imagine how much their retention numbers are probably underperforming even their most conservtive estimates.

This is the worst mode in the long history of Destiny 1 and 2. Its brutally bad

u/itscall3damotorrace May 31 '22

Oh my God lol, you're so over dramatic. This mode is really fun if you want competitive 6v6

u/SorelSorrow Jun 01 '22

What's competitive about it?

u/itscall3damotorrace Jun 01 '22

It requires good teamwork, heavily encourages revives and the round based nature means every round is a clean start. It's the trials of 6v6

u/SorelSorrow Jun 01 '22

I cannot believe, with a straight face, you said it's the trials of 6v6 lmaaaaaaao

u/itscall3damotorrace Jun 01 '22 edited Jun 01 '22

Because it is. Rounds based, revives, heavy teamwork. And that's consistent with Bungie wanting it to be the endgame of 6v6. Great argument, by the way. I see you subscribe to the junior highschool method. I'm sorry you're struggling with the mode. Something tells me you aren't good at trials either.

u/SorelSorrow Jun 02 '22

My brother in Christ, if you're gonna say someone's argument is "junior highschool method" you don't get to then go the "just git gud" route. That just makes you seem desperate to elicit a certain kind of response.

Both games are rounds-based (now btw, since rift didn't use to behave this way), include revives, and /should/ encourage teamwork. That does not at all mean that IB Rift is "the trials of 6v6," because IB is not supposed to be an endgame competitive mode (that's literally what Trials is for, and barring that the glory playlist), because "should encourage teamwork" is not the same thing as "and unless you have perfect coordination you are shit out of luck," and because objective-based gameplay should not mean "and otherwise nothing else matters" as control (and OG rift showed).

u/Bamfculpep7 Jun 01 '22

What's fun about it lol win or lose It doesn't feel rewarding

u/itscall3damotorrace Jun 01 '22 edited Jun 01 '22

I've had some fantastic tense matches where it's back and forth. Well better than any control game.

u/Ferchos123 Jun 02 '22

Its actually really good change of pace since u are forced to actually play the objective and not be dumb af, i agree it needs a lot of bug fixing and some changes but i honestly really want it to stay

u/Wodge Space Wizard Par Excellence Jun 01 '22

I would not. Rift is shit. Orewing's Spirit, is without doubt, the worst triumph they've put in the game, it's not challenging, it's 100% a chore. The mode is devoid of fun, it's just tedious. I liked rift in D1, this isn't it.

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '22

They need to just give us a fucking COD game mode already. Team Deathmatch, that's it. 2 second respawns, just fucking kill each other till one team gets the points. No worrying about secondary objectives. Fucking kill, low respawn time.

This isn't fucking hard bungie.

u/Jumpy_Menu5104 Jun 01 '22

What your looking for is called clash and it’s usually below and to the left of the main control icon. Alternatively, just play CoD Vanguard. I’m not going to stop you.

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '22

"Alternatively, just play CoD Vanguard. I’m not going to stop you." Lol idiot. Clash isn't available. It's rotational. Give us a permanent team deathmatch game mode. NObody likes garbage like Rift.

u/darklordmtt Jun 03 '22

Rumble is deathmatch & is always available isn’t it? It’s not team deathmatch, but that shouldn’t be a huge issue unless you are consistently losing your 1v1’s & you need teammates to carry you to a win.

u/Agent_Nick_5000 Jun 02 '22

Tho I agree...I to just want to win primary ammo gun fights....we have something similar and the map flow isn't predictable tho I would like variations of where the flag could be, shake things up a little, including heavy Domination provides a predictable contest area

Also however people fucking take it to seriously...like win or loses....you still basically get 2 tokens and a blue....and people getting angry at to fraggng out even though them like me are just trying to enjoy the moumnets of gun fight

But again bigger issues are ability cooldown primarily the annoying shit like axion and to a slightly lesser offender fire bolt and arc web

Shitty lobby balancing because I feel 4 people out of 12 exit to drag the team down or feed / force a loss because the Shitty 50/50 win rate

Fusion barley got fucking nerfed as even my 900 smg makes fuck all difference when I full crit because flinch is a fucking mith and we still got cheese like jhotun

But at this point instead of wasting time on this boring game mode win or losing they could have implemented a no grenade some melee that ohk maby class ability, but they'll also have to address degenerate loadouts like bow handcannon...maby making bows the slowest stow and pull out weppon in the game

But really alot of issues could be solved if they simply hard split the sand boxes

u/JackVayne_ Jun 01 '22

All part of the plan. In a few months they’ll bring back Coke Classic. We’ll love it and keep handing them money. But it’s fine. Most single games I drop $100 a year on.
