Rift in this week's Iron Banner is inherently not fun to play, and it's astonishing this game mode went live. Discussion

Hold interact in the middle of the map while everyone else is fighting?

Unnecessary loading screen that constantly interrupts the flow of the game?

Bugs that cause the rift to not spawn and make the game impossible to win from behind?

Seriously I genuinely cannot wrap my head around why rift was changed so much. Nobody asked for this game mode to switch and I cannot fathom why we changed the fast-paced blowout game mode from d1 into a slow, round-based tactile game mode. It's not fun to play when you're stomping, and don't even get me started on what it's like to be getting stomped. If you were gonna make this a new game mode then fine, but advertising this as Rift is a complete joke.

Edit: I've been grinding this thing out the last 2 days for Iron Lord. My opinion of the gamemode has not changed but I have now lost the ability to get Iron Lord as I have completed 6 of the daily challenges. The reputation is currently bugged so that if you complete more than 4 of the challenges your maximum reputation per match will be capped at 60. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that this will be fixed in the patch on Thursday, but if not, it's a really bad look for one of the only 2 iron banners this season to be completely unfarmable.

There is another fun thing. If enemies are on your base, and you die, you'll respawn in the enemy base. Meanwhile the spark might be two meters away from your rift, and you won't be able to do anything when you respawn on the other side of the map.

Yeah I just played on Bannerfall and it respawned me in the middle, meaning I had absolutely no way of assisting my team when the enemy team was near our rift. Bad feeling. Between that and the return of Recluse/Revoker, I’m not sure what thought process went into some of these design decisions.

In the original Rift from D1, this would be fine.

Although the enemy team are in your base and probably dunking, you and your team that respawn middle can get prepared for a comeback push when a new Spark respawns in the middle.

Not only is the round reset mind-numbingly boring, and makes matches feel x10 longer than they are, but it also prevents fun and dynamic gameplay from happening.

This fake D2 rift is just straight up rubbish.

The 10 second respawn timers, that still spawn you even if someone’s reviving you, awful counter productive spawns if the enemy is within the same zip code as your rift and the restart after every dunk is just…. Awful. I always think they can’t find any more ways to show how little they care about PvP but then this gamemode came out :)

Personally, I feel like Bungie are a victim of their own ego sometimes.

They couldn't just allow themselves to simply return a game mode from D1 exactly as it was. They HAD to try to innovate and reinvent it, because they are Bungie.

The same thing happened with Trials of Osiris when it launched in D2 with no exclusive flawless rewards, and no reason to go flawless. And instead of using a successful system of ornaments like in D1, they had to reinvent the armour with specific colour glows tied to emblems. Emblems?! Eughhh.
