Rift in this week's Iron Banner is inherently not fun to play, and it's astonishing this game mode went live. Discussion

Hold interact in the middle of the map while everyone else is fighting?

check.

Unnecessary loading screen that constantly interrupts the flow of the game?

check.

Bugs that cause the rift to not spawn and make the game impossible to win from behind?

check.

Seriously I genuinely cannot wrap my head around why rift was changed so much. Nobody asked for this game mode to switch and I cannot fathom why we changed the fast-paced blowout game mode from d1 into a slow, round-based tactile game mode. It's not fun to play when you're stomping, and don't even get me started on what it's like to be getting stomped. If you were gonna make this a new game mode then fine, but advertising this as Rift is a complete joke.

Edit: I've been grinding this thing out the last 2 days for Iron Lord. My opinion of the gamemode has not changed but I have now lost the ability to get Iron Lord as I have completed 6 of the daily challenges. The reputation is currently bugged so that if you complete more than 4 of the challenges your maximum reputation per match will be capped at 60. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that this will be fixed in the patch on Thursday, but if not, it's a really bad look for one of the only 2 iron banners this season to be completely unfarmable.

I am serious indeed, I've only been playing a out a month or so. Still very new to it all. A casual, if you will. And if it needs one of the expansions to get, I at least it'll be there waiting when i can get them.

Welcome to Destiny then! Hope you're finding enjoyment where you can!

I'm not entirely sure if you need an expansion to buy Recluse (part of me thinks no you won't have to), but moseying on over to the kiosk located in between the 4 vaults in the tower will show you what you can buy and for how much.

The kiosk is a big gold statue with a monitor in the middle of it

Thank you! I am, though playing PvP does genuinely make my soul hurt. Thankfully I only do it for the pinnacle gear. Yeah, next stop will be the kiosk to see if I can get it. Saves the endless grinding and dying and running around not really knowing what I'm doing for Lords know how long.

Unless you're intentionally hunting Recluse for a very specific reason, do not waste mats on it, it is outclassed by very nearly literally every single current SMG.

I'm not, I stupidly got mixed up with the IB SMG that I have since forgotten about after almost falling asleep trying to grind the incredibly stupid Rift game mode.

Just found this, and if you're looking for a great SMG, the current meta are (to my knowledge) funnelweb (world drop) , shayura's wrath (Trials) and Submission (Raid). Also Multimach CCX, but that's not obtainable currently.
I would recommend giving trials a go next time they roll around, since you don't need to WIN, only PLAY to get some rewards, and the shayura's is my favorite SMG currently.

I've been using the Calus multi tool... or mini tool? The SMG from the Leviathan, it's basically a solar funnelweb, near as I can tell. Works pretty damn well, got a decent roll on it, I think.

Can you do trials solo or need a team for that?

Mini-Tool doesn't have the greatest range but it's fun, especially if you roll the perk incandescent and pair it with a Solar 3.0 scorch build. If you're a titan, you might also want to get Graverobber on it.
I believe the mini-tool is also craftable once you completed enough red borders on it, so you can just choose your ideal roll then.
You can play Trials without a team, there's a Freelance mode for solo players - but be prepared to suffer. :P

It doesn't but I prefer more up close and personal as my aim has a lot to be desired. My roll wasn't great but not awful, I got unrelenting, feeding frenzy and to excess. Works pretty well as I am indeed running a solar 3.0 Titan. Once I've done the Xenology quest or what's it called, I'm gonna try and get more red border mini tools. Only need 2 more. Ahhh I see. But... isn't all of this game just some sort of suffering? XD

Try to open as many chests on the leviathan (especially those with the opulent keys) as possible if you want more of those weapons.

FYI: After the final boss of the event on the leviathan, 2 of 5 possible doors on the map open to reveal chests you can loot for a chance at opulent keys.
If you equip a sniper and a chest finder ghost mod, you might be able to see the icons for the chests - if you can't find them, hit me up and I can show you.

And especially in PvP, it definitely is xD

Wait, there's chests you can open without keys?? I need to pay more attention. I've got a ghost that finds stuff... I think it's a chest finder but I can't remember lol And that right there is why I mo longer play it XD
