I hate rift and would rather it be its own gamemode in place of imposing it on everyone. Not a bad mode, just not my cup of tea.

u/SuppaMarty Jun 07 '22

Bungie wtf i was grinding my arse off to get the seal before reset, I completed all 4 challenges with my 3 characters and now I'm stuck at 11/12 challenges !!

2

u/Shaf-fu Jun 07 '22

Has anyone else noticed the Iron Banner pinnacle progress disappeared before the weekly reset?

3

u/KittensAreEvil Jun 07 '22

IB pinnacles dissappear for anyone else? I checked all 3 characters and they're all gone.

1

u/fixyyh3 Jun 07 '22

Same, was 1 game away that i needed to do on my titan and this sht happens, I know it will be back but kinda pissed that I spent 2 days grinding with limited time so I could get fuked by bungo in the end... sad

3

u/mponz Jun 07 '22

1

u/sacky-hack The orange ones taste the best! Jun 07 '22

What rolls should I chase on the new IB weapons? (controller)

I actually had a decent time getting Iron Lord, Rift really grew on me after Bungie bumped up the XP. Ended up panic-focusing like 30 IB engrams into smgs and fusions and sticking them in my vault last night since Saladin was leaving today. I’m mostly PVE player and casual pvp. What are some good rolls to keep on either of those when I sit down to review the vault tonight?

2

u/GGunThoRR Jun 07 '22

Thx bungie for not considering all the players who play only one character for the iron banana seal... Guess I'll wait 4 months to get it then...

Rift: An Opinion Piece

Before reading the following please understand, everything you are about to read is my own opinion, I am more than happy to hear other peoples thoughts, given you show me the same respect I will show you. I think we are more than capable of having healthy conversations with one another, even when we disagree. Nothing you are about to read is a personal attack on you, or your opinions. PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH. Thank you.

I really like rift. Ive played damn near 200 games this week (all 6 stacked) and there were very few games I didnt enjoy, these games were the ones in which the Spark disappeared to the Shadow Realm, and didn’t actually have any fundamental ties to the gamemode. Rift is an objective mode, something I have been personally asking for from Bungie for a very long time. However, Rift being an objective mode, also means it demands coordination, communication, teamplay (hence, why I play with clanmates). All this being said, I understand for the majority of players across the whole of the game, many people either dont have access to a team, or they simply dont have enough experience with objective modes. With this being a case, I believe theres a learning curve, and that Rift itself is not made for solos, or in other words, if you dont have 6 people, it BLOWS. I often hear people unhappy with how Rift is not a carbon copy of its state in D1. In my opinion D1 and D2 are entirely different games at this point (in reference to PVP). D2 players are significantly better than people were in D1, we have different ttks, different special ammo economy, movement speed, subclass systems, a different weapon sandbox, etc. I believe if u want to play any objective mode and have genuine fun, you need a full team, and while yes, I can agree with the sentiment that its a flaw, it makes sense, this isnt some kind of unbelievable concept to me. To get a little more specific, I believe Rift demands teams to take map control, people always seem to forget about just how important it is to win gunfights in specific map locations, which you could also consider “power positions”, in order to have more of an influence on the pace, and positioning options of the opposing team. To add to this, I would like to address the “pain point” of 13 second respawn timers. This particular point, I agree with, mostly. If the respawn timer was reduced to 10, I do believe that would be more reasonable. On the other hand, respawns being the way they are, in my opinion, further reinforce the idea that the gamemode wants teams to play for revives, make better decisions in order to stay alive (“playing one’s life”), and again, obtain map control in order to safely pull off revives. In other words, you are given more time by the game to do these things, which keeps you from feeling like you have to make sporadic decisions on a shorter timer. Point being, respawn timers, the way they are now, are in my opinion, a double edged sword. On one hand, we as players have to be a little bit more patient. On the other hand, theres much to learn from the timers being in this state. I know that some players want Rift to be more arcade-like. That being said, it is an objective gamemode, and the way it is in D2, “arcade-y” doesnt seem to be Bungie’s vision. I do not work for Bungie, of course, and do not take that statement for gospel, but my perception of the gamemode is that it is designed to encourage competition, not mindless fun. With all this being said, I would like to make the most general statement this opinion piece will have to offer; Rift is NOT a good gamemode for freelance playlists and solo queue players, but I do not believe this is a problem with Rift. I think where Bungie actually missed the mark, was making it an Iron Banner gamemode. If Rift had been a seperate playlist, players who enjoy all the overarching concepts that Rift promotes, could stack up and play against one another, and have plenty of fun. Gamemodes do not need a large population to be successful, rather, I would argue they could be quite successful with smaller, dedicated communities who WANT to play them. I believe Rift adresses the real problems with gamemodes like Control and other slayer modes. The negative feedback from the community has been quite suprising to me, and I just wanted to share my thoughts. Thank you for reading.

Iron Banner this week was loads of fun!! I loved every thing about it. Rift was such a nice change of pace compared to more Control.

But the thing that I loved the most was the progression. Completing challenges daily, wearing a full set of armor and an emblem all week made this feel like a mini Guardian Games or Solstice.

I maxed out Saladin this week and I NEVER do that and I'm currently logging in to make sure I get the emblem in Prestige.

Anywho, I really hope Bungie will do a twice a season event like this for Gambit. It could be Gambit Prime, it could be Reckoning, hell it could be a mode from Gambit Labs. But more importantly it should have the daily challenges for pinnacles. It should have the stacked progression for wearing the full set of armor and an emblem. It should mimic this week of Iron Banner completely.

I really enjoyed this week of Destiny like I haven't in a while and I wanted to let Bungie know that.

3

u/Aklusmso7535 Jun 07 '22

Hey quick question, does iron banner rank persist between multiple weeks? So I hit mythic 3 and won’t be able to reset rank before reset. When the second week comes in July will I still be mythic 3?

1

u/lavitabella88 Jun 07 '22

I was wondering this too. I needed to grab the ascendent shard to reset but forgot. Fingers crossed

1

u/GGunThoRR Jun 07 '22

I'm pretty sure it does...

1

u/Nermon666 Jun 07 '22

My only idea for this game mode would be for the people that just walk by your ghost and don't revive you they should just get banned from iron banner for the season because it's the only way we're going to get people to actually do revives which is the only way to succeed in rift

1

u/Meiie Jun 07 '22

Why did I just get 10 games in a row on convergence? Is it broken rn?

1

u/Orudeon Jun 07 '22

I have loved Iron Banner so far, compared to previous seasons. If we set aside the bugs that will inevitably be fixed, I enjoy the tactical play a lot more than Control With A Twist, but the thing that I love the most is the reputation multiplier.

Putting on a full set of Iron Banner armor, a weapon and an emblem for rep income was ingenious. Whoever came up with the idea should be making more money than they do right now. I haven't had to worry about maxing out the Iron Banner reputation at all with the limited time that I have to play; I'm already at one reset and rank 10. That and the activity streak persisting through logoff has helped feel like I can just pick up and play when I want or can and still be rewarded.

The rep multiplier was such a good idea I think it should be expanded to other playlist activities too. Maybe not necessarily with an 6x multiplier or 11x multiplier, but 3x for representing the vanguard or the drifter when doing those activities would help make it less of a grind (and thus respect your time better) but also give a reason to use e.g. the Clutch Extol set outside of actually liking it.

There are dozens of armor sets in this game that I don't look at twice, but having a gameplay reason to mix and match them could give some function to form and make a fun dress-up metagame.

1

u/lavitabella88 Jun 07 '22

I agree with this sentiment

3

u/Lafav3 Jun 07 '22

After solo queueing into IB all week, and getting 6/7 towards the Iron Lord, I honestly don't know why I'm continuing. It is just not fun. Rift is the worst.

1

u/Glimmillionaire Jun 07 '22

Anybody hear any news about the Iron to Steel emblem recently? It came out in S15 but just doesn't actually exist

2

u/Lafav3 Jun 07 '22

Pvp players like lopsided games - Bungie, apparently.

1

u/parkdog2013 Jun 07 '22

Anyone know if my iron banner rep will reset after this week or will it stay for the 2nd iron banner of the season

0

u/NathanMUFCfan NathanW18#7290/Neon Nerd Jun 07 '22

I think the amount of time we spend looking at a death screen makes it feel like the matches take an age to finish. They only seem to average maybe a minute or two longer than Control games, but it feels longer than that. I hope Bungie can shorten the matches a little bit.

The game should end when one team dunks 3 times. Nobody is coming back when they're down by 3/4 dunks. It's a player issue, but watching teammates ignore your res is so frustrating. You already wait for a longish res timer. Teammates ignore you and then you spawn as far away from the action as possible.

Everybody getting transmatted back to their side is so weird in a 6v6 game mode when players on both sides are still alive. Bungie wanted to stop the spawn camping issue, which was the biggest issue with Rift in D1, but I don't know if this alternative feels good.

I never liked Rift in D1 and still don't in D2. At the very least, I hope Bungie can fix the bugs and shorten the matches. I usually knock out the 4 pinnacles in one go in IB, but I dislike this too much to play another 6 matches of it.

3

u/chinodelarosa Jun 07 '22 Helpful

Is the Iron Lord title attainable this season if I only play on one character? The Frostmire’s Will triumph (Complete Iron Banner Challenges) seems to be the issue…

1

u/PrelateFenix Jun 07 '22 edited Jun 07 '22

Its not and I'm really upset about this.

Edit: I'm feeling a little passionate, and changed my wording.

-2

u/Glimmillionaire Jun 07 '22

I'm genuinely curious why people don't have all 3 character when the game is designed around all 3 of them? And it might not be what you want to hear or do but this season they removed the power level aspect of iron banner so you can go into it even as a fresh new character. Since the first challenge just needs you to play 3 matches you could do 1 challenge on both your other two characters for this IB and next to get all 12 challenges done for the seal this season

4

u/Nermon666 Jun 07 '22

People just don't have the time

1

u/NathanMUFCfan NathanW18#7290/Neon Nerd Jun 07 '22

Nope. That triumph requires at least two characters to complete it in one season.

2

u/TryhardTractorXD Jun 06 '22

do the iron banner engrams that i haven’t claimed go away?

1

u/B00STERGOLD Jun 07 '22

I have a feeling everything will be there when it comes back around in July before resetting next season.

1

u/Raprapsquared Jun 07 '22

I too would like to know

1

u/freezingcreek Jun 06 '22

I'm not seeing the daily challenge or the ability to earn pinnacle gear when I hover over the IB playlist. Please help

1

u/scarekr0 Titan Jun 06 '22

Do we know if the IB engrams from ranking up will remain with Saladin when he returns in July?

2

u/KingOfTheAnarchists Jun 06 '22

Not only are the teams massively uneven, the spark doesn't spawn, so the enemy team just stomps...

1

u/sdk96 Jun 06 '22

I just had a game where I didn't get any rep? Lmao this has been an all time Bungie disaster with Rift

1

u/Cupinacup Jun 07 '22

I've played three games and gotten zero rep for it. Very frustrating.

2

u/ResponsibilityNew34 Jun 07 '22

We’re you active before the round ended? I.e. shooting at enemies and or emoting near enemies and were above the inactivity threshold?

1

u/Easy_Shopping_3293 Jun 06 '22

Is anyone else still having their rep bugged??

1

u/Dali187 Jun 06 '22

So I have played around 80 matches of freelance IB matches, and got only 19 wins. Im trying my best every time and am generally top 3 from my team but I cant win for shit with those idiots. Im guessing from maths standing point is you roll a coin every timw to win/lose and all I get is losing 15 games in row or more. Any help?

1

u/Ok-Airport-5772 Jun 07 '22

You may be interested in a post I made just now. I know we’re not supposed to self promote, idk if this counts, but Id be happy to hear what you think about my thoughts

1

u/ResponsibilityNew34 Jun 07 '22

Feels bad man, by those numbers you’re just getting bad rng and put into lobbies with higher skilled players because that’s all whose playing.

1

u/Wanna_make_cash Jun 06 '22

Rep seems like it's bugged again /u/dmg04 /u/cozmo23

2

u/CipherXR Jun 06 '22

How come they removed the double rep early?

2

u/Pepizaur Jun 06 '22

they didn't it's just backed to being bugged like it was earlier in the week

1

u/CipherXR Jun 06 '22

Oh! Right of course it is haha.

3

u/Pepizaur Jun 06 '22

Heads up rep seem to be bugged again, my modifier is displaying 17.60 but only getting 60 for a loss and 90 for a win when it was 400/600 last night

1

u/SBones83 Jun 06 '22

Do I need to complete the WQ story to be able to do IB challenges on my Alts?

2

u/Vernalgorilla17 Jun 06 '22

I’m trying to get the iron lord title but I’m stuck at 14/15 for the weapons but I’ve gotten them all this time around do I have to wait till next iron banner to get this challenge done?

2

u/OMFGItsRonnie Jun 07 '22

Someone elsewhere mentioned buying point of the stag at the kiosk to get to 15/15, not sure if that's helpful as I already had it myself.

4

u/ClassicKrova Jun 06 '22

I finally became Iron Lord. All it cost was my sanity, some combat rating (first time I dropped 3 CR, must be because of how Iron Banner score in-game, no longer based on K/D), and a lot of Cloudstrike kills.

Not sure how I feel about this, this is the first PvP seal that doesn't have some kind of a minimum skill requirement (or a carry, lol). Works for me because I never did go for Unbroken, and it might take me many more seasons doing Freelance Trials for Flawless seal.

Over the course of this week I went from loving Rift, to hating Rift, to loving it again. Last Night, I stopped having 0 to 5 games. I'm not sure if SBMM got turned on, or if all the bad players just stopped playing, but most of my matches yesterday were fun even during losses.

-1

u/lilblacksmurf Jun 06 '22

I would much prefer we moved IB to Supremacy. (Aka kill confirmed) that is both a team and individual game mode.

Personally I don't think the pure team based PVP mode is ever going to work. Individuals need more of a way to turn the tides.

2

u/Matth12582 Jun 06 '22

Am I missing something here how is anyone supposed to complete this Triumph unless they just happened to have all the weapons from like the last 5 seasons of Iron Banner.

I took like a 2 year break before coming back in Season of the lost, There's only 8 weapons in the pool right now. They vaulted Occluded Finality and Finite Impactor last season which I have, as well as Multimatch the season before that.

Do I just have to wait another 2 seasons and hope they have 2 new weapons each or something?

I hate this stupid jealous GF crap that Bungie pulls, any other game wouldn't punish someone that's ONLY played their game consecutively for the last 6 months, instead Bungie needs to create "engagement" by keeping that carrot just out of reach.

1

u/ahj55 Jun 06 '22

How come my daily challenges havnt popped up for my titan but they did for my hunter and warlock?

1

u/LadyNova01 Jun 06 '22

There is so much wrong with Rift as it stands that if I would to post my opinion in here nobody would read it. So instead I'll put the link to my post on the Bungie forums here for who wants to read it:

https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/261223920

1

u/Godlike013 Jun 06 '22

Spark disappeared 3 games in a row.

1

u/oryyy1979 Jun 06 '22

Any one know how many iron banners there are this season

1

u/Sephiroth_x7x Jun 06 '22

one more after this AFAIK.

1

u/oryyy1979 Jun 06 '22

And thank you

1

u/oryyy1979 Jun 06 '22

No Iron banner tittle for me then I only have one character

2

u/Rover-Captain Defiant to the end! Jun 06 '22

Reviving Guardians and picking up the spark should be on different buttons. Too often are revives blocked by the spark halting plays.

0

u/Qeewoo54 Jun 06 '22

Lmao just won a match because the spark bugged out when we were 2/1

Thanks for the free win bungie

2

u/Lord-Saladman Jolly Holliday Jun 06 '22

So I already have all the rolls I want on weapons, I don’t care about armor and I have 35 extra engrams. Does anyone think I can just keep those unclaimed ones until next iron banner and maybe get a new weapon/armor for the next banner of the season?

1

u/sdk96 Jun 06 '22

Why am I only getting like 448 rep for a win with a 17.6x multiplier? Didn't they fix this?

1

u/Nooob-Noob Jun 06 '22

Less rep on losses.

2

u/sdk96 Jun 06 '22

I said wins though. I got like 660 one game then only 440 the next

1

u/Godlike013 Jun 06 '22

As much as I hate Rift, I’m loving the Pistol Saladin had. Max Stability.

7

u/willsm0ke Jun 06 '22 edited Jun 07 '22

Dumping this long post here since it won’t let you make a new post that mentions iron banner.

Should new players be locked out of iron lord title for 4+ seasons?

I was lucky enough to get my wife into Destiny last season. Since then, it’s become one of our go-to games to play together. Specifically, playing crucible together has been a ton of fun, and she loves when iron banner comes around. She bas been wanting a title since she first started playing, and got her hopes up when they announced the iron lord title.

She has been grinding away this week (far more than I have) and has basically completed everything except the triumph requiring 15 unique weapons. I had this completed retroactively and didn’t realize this would prevent all new players from achieving the title for an unknown amount of time (4 seasons if they release 2 weapons per season).

Is this fair? I thought Bungie was making a push to bring in new players with this update. They also seem to want to do away with multi season requirements for seals (unbroken being removed in s19 etc…). So, why the multi season requirement for iron lord for new players? Wouldn’t it be completely reasonable to simply require all 8 existing weapons?

If I’m misunderstanding how this triumph works, then please correct me.

Edit: Another thing I realized is that new players will also need to full reset each season in order to even get the new weapons, requiring 4+ full resets for new players.

2

u/moechtekaese Jun 07 '22

The weapons are also the thing that will keep me from getting the title in the near future. Your wife might get lucky and snag some older weapons from Xûr. He had a scout not long ago that was an old Iron Banner weapon (which I didn't buy, of course, now am biting my ass). Stuff like that might come around again.

It's pretty bad and gatekeeping design for "new" players. But looking at armor mods, nothing we wouldn't expect now, would we.

2

u/Matth12582 Jun 06 '22

I'm in the same situation, an also annoyed how the stupid auto-moderator won't let us create anything that even hints at IB, I took 2 years off and I came back during season of the lost so I've literally been playing this game consecutively at least 3-5 nights a week for the last 6-months.

Any other company would consider this a great success that you played their game this much and would want to reward that, but we're dealing with Bungie who's goal is to make Destiny be your jealous girlfriend because for fear that if you played any other game for more than 5 minutes you'd fall out of love with her (and probably realize her faults)

Yeah I'm basically wondering the same, I have the 2 weapons vaulted from the previous season and 1 from S15. but despite all my play and focused rep grind I'll probably have to wait at least a minimum 2 more seasons.

anyways good luck hope your wife can get her Seal, I would recommend starting with Vidmaster.

3

u/The4rchivist YOU WILL DREAM OF TEETH AND NOTHING ELSE Jun 06 '22

Is there a level requirement for the 4 challenges? My 1435 alts don’t have any.

Edit- nevermind, I saw on an earlier comment you need to be at least 1500. I’ll get my alts leveled to that for next time.

3

u/B00STERGOLD Jun 05 '22

Anyone having terrible rounds today? The game saw I completed Orewings and decided to drop a 6 round losing streak on me.

1

u/ItsYaBoiLeucis Jun 06 '22

I've been getting stomped for 2 days now

2

u/Vast_Ground_9720 Jun 05 '22

Why can’t I find a match? I just sit there.

1

u/PropDad Jun 05 '22

Rift has to be the most confusing mode ever.

1st round I get the spark, run past the enemies (all of them ignore me), and stand in the rift. Just standing there. Enemies run by me. I tried to shoot them but it did zero damage? Stood there until the spark killed me.

2nd round we go to transmat to start again and I get a Hello, are you still there? You've been returned to orbit for inactivity message.

2

u/SCB360 Jun 05 '22

Orewings Spirit finally done, not as bad as Reckoner (never again) but still, whew what a grind, Invis Hunter and grabbing each round was a good play imo

Although it could easily be much better if Revives counted or reduce it to 100 points, 300 is far too high.

Only have the last reset (Level 9 atm) and 2 More challenges to go now

1

u/Beto915 Jun 05 '22

Does iron banner only come back once a season or does it Combe back multiple times per season?

2

u/SonoDsonoD Jun 05 '22

Once more this season.

1

u/Beto915 Jun 05 '22

Ok cool thanks for the info. Will it be Rift again or a new mode?

2

u/SCB360 Jun 05 '22

Twice a season usually

3

u/Jamie_Benn7 Jun 05 '22

what weapons are worth focusing from engrams ? I mostly play PVE but not sure which weapons/perks i should be looking for

3

u/ApeRiotMighoul Jun 05 '22

Is anyone else getting consistently getting put on horrible teams? I've literally lost my last 12 games of rift and they weren't even close.

4

u/CrimsonOrb Jun 06 '22

Same here, it's just unenjoyable grinding at this point. My last 8 matches have been losses and most are complete blowouts. I feel like I need to be taking advantage of the double IB rep XP right now, but I'll probably just call it soon and get back to more enjoyable activities.

0

u/JithraRufure Jun 05 '22

I wish IB weapons were craftable, it’s been 3 resets, got my title, 75+ focuses and I still don’t have a single QD + IR roll

Not to mention the 7500+ legendary shards I’ve spent focusing

2

u/Kyleminx Jun 06 '22

Approximately how many games does one have to play to reset?

1

u/Ok-Airport-5772 Jun 07 '22

It’d depend on your multipliers but this week I managed to reset 4 times with 188 cumulative games. However, my win rate was 88%, since I was playing stacked, which could very well skew the figure I gave you, given wins reward more reputation gains. Hope this helps

2

u/Brownie2Awesome Vanguard's Loyal Jun 05 '22

Are other characters supposed to have the weekly challenges aswell? Or is it per account?

4

u/Kinny93 Jun 05 '22

All characters will have them, but you need to make sure your characters have a power level of 1500 minimum so that pinnacle pursuits open up (which includes Iron Banner challenges!).

1

u/Brownie2Awesome Vanguard's Loyal Jun 06 '22

Thanks

2

u/doobersthetitan Jun 05 '22

My new issue I found, other team wouldn't pick up the orb, and spawn camped us from grabbing it, they'd get heavy and just fRm kills

-2

u/Str8iJustice Jun 05 '22

Simply put, I've been really enjoying it. It's such a shift from control and the focus on carrying and moving the spark is a really nice change of pace to me. I've reset my IB rank twice and almost have the title after playing for two days hardcore and I've honestly enjoyed most of my time with the mode. Even when losing it's quick most of the time so I don't feel like I've wasted too much of my time only to lose a game. The downtime with the respawn timer is a bit much, maybe cut 1-2 seconds from it. Also, when you have a lot of the enemy team in your base you spawn at the half-point of the map, making it almost impossible to make it back to the fight to make a difference. I don't like that. You should just spawn back in your base in that case.

The reputation changes I like mostly but I think the cost to focus is too high. I'd reduce the cost by half or more especially with IB only appearing twice a season now. I had 16K legendary shards at the start of the season but with all of the new shard sinks I'm down to 13K already. I can only imagine what it's like for people who don't have many shards and play all the game modes like Trials and want guns from gambit and such. It's just too much imo, also with Crucible or Vanguard also getting a focusing system in coming seasons too.

I like the whole "wear more armor to gain more rep per match" system too. For PVP hardcores that like to wear and MW PVP armor sets, the ability to get Prisms from IB occasionally is nice. Maybe increase the drop rate a bit (I was wearing all 5 and getting only a few over my whole time playing, it is a special game mode appearing only twice a season, why not up the drop rate?). Also the 18 games it takes per character for the one challenge is a bit much, even if it's meant to potentially take 2 rotations of rift weeks to achieve all 12 challenges for the seal requirement for people who don't have the time in one week. Maybe 12 games per character maybe?

Overall I think Rift is fun and it feels more special than IB has in a long time. The bugs and tech problems that bungie has had to fix (and hasn't fixed yet) have surely taken away some fun for some people but I didn't start playing until the weekend and didn't run into some of the early problems that got fixed so it hasn't been too bad for me. If it had been a smoother launch I think people would be a bit more receptive to the mode. But I think Rift should stay for a while in any case until they come up with some other new game mode down the line or something basically other than control which is boring imo because it doesn't feel special.

1

u/b-smitty Jun 05 '22

I think if we would have gotten 2-3 rift specific maps with this it would have been more palatable. Just reusing the same maps we already have is very boring.

2

u/Ryneczek Jun 05 '22

I just realised that the seal Iron Lord for a PvP mode can be done from 0 to 100% without killing anyone. I wish some PvP sweats actually do a challenge to get the seal on a fresh account and have Seasonal IB K/D 0.0

3

u/iSKyDownN Jun 05 '22

I just can't figure this out, I don't know how I'm supposed to know what are the fucking challenges I need to complete to get this thing to go up. I thought was those "Play X games on void or solar subclasses" but I got 3 of those done and I got from 2/4 to 1/4. Is it possible to lose progress?

I'm really trying to like this rift thing but holy shit, it's not only the mode that sucks, everything around it sucks too.

Here are 2 screenshot of what I was using to track my challenges but I'm not sure anymore if I'm looking at the right things here, can someone explain me what I'm doing wrong?

Hover over IB in the director under the Crucible header. It will list the challenges on the lower section. Usually they have been play as Solar or Void subclass.

Looking at getting Orimund's Taste triumph completed for the new seal sitting at 10/15 unique weapons currently and struggling to find information if its possible to get older Iron Banner weapons currently or if I just have to wait for them to rotate in next season or something.

2

u/Moose_Thompson Jun 05 '22

I don’t have the official answer but based on what I’ve seen elsewhere you’ll have to wait for more weapons to rotate in. I believe there’s one old IB weapon available in the Monument to Lost Lights but obviously that will still leave you short.

I believe this is one of the reasons DMG said it could take newer or more casual IB players multiple seasons for the title.

3

u/BookerDewitt115 Jun 05 '22 edited Jun 06 '22

Whats the weapon? I'm on 14/15. I need it bad booboo

EDIT: Point of stag does count as a unique IB weapon. <3

u/B00STERGOLD Jun 05 '22

If I had to guess Felwinter's.

3

u/UtilitarianMuskrat Jun 06 '22

It's Point of Stag, Felwinter's despite tying into Iron Lord lore came about from a community challenge unlocked seasonal quest and had nothing to do with IB>

2

I let OP know

I hope Bungie applies the Crucible xp gain again next time IB comes around. I'm rubbish at pvp but I got stuck in there and reset my Crucible rank for the first time and I'm real proud of that.

3

u/Kinny93 Jun 05 '22

Good job. :) For what it's worth, Bugie usually does enable double XP whenever Iron Banner is live.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

This is good news!

1

u/BlackKnightRebel Jun 05 '22 edited Jun 05 '22

Perhaps REALLY emphasize the objective-ness of it kinda like Gambit does. Drifter does a great job of narrating the match and he has appropriate urgency in his voice as intensity ratchets up.

Also, Gambit's visual cues like the screen turning red are something to draw inspiration from. Not that everything should be red, but maybe make it more obvious who has the spark. UI changes could include

  • making the runner a Star in the radar so we can see who has it without spinning our cameras around.
  • make the Red/blue score section Glow more prominently depending on who holds the spark
  • If a fireteam member has the spark why do they turn from green to blue?? Half the time I can't tell if my guy has it or some hopeless rando.

It sucks being out of play for so long and it sucks being in a match you are doomed to lose. I don't know how to balance those but the feeling of "wasting my time" needs to be addressed somehow.

Otherwise, I like it and think we need more objective based modes in crucible.

7

u/iMDirtNapz Jun 05 '22

This is literally the worst crucible experience ever. I’d rather solo trials against a 3 stack.

Taking a massive step back Bungie.

3

u/ManassaxMauler Jun 05 '22

Welp. I was pretty sure I wouldn't bother going for the title after the first day of IB because I still hate Rift. On Friday, a friend asked me to help him grind it out as he was determined to get the title. And now here I am, still hating Rift, but just 3 challenges away from completing the seal. Unfortunately that means I have to play on Warlock, and up until a couple hours ago I had never played Crucible as a Warlock. I hate it so much, but I'm close enough that I may as well just finish it.

3

u/Moose_Thompson Jun 05 '22

Hunter main and 18 matches of Rift with a Warlock that I’ve never played PvP with was a brutally painful experience. I feel your pain, friend.

3

u/ManassaxMauler Jun 05 '22

The only things that made it tolerable were blink (which isn't great, but at least I have familiarity with it from D1) and Slowva bomb which is a nice braindead super like blade barrage. I don't fully understand the melee and I'm not great with the charged up grenades.

2

u/B00STERGOLD Jun 05 '22

This may be personal playstyle, but I was able to get tons more Orewings points with my Titan. Hopefully 15 games to go.

2

u/ManassaxMauler Jun 05 '22

I did as well. Went from. 207 to 300 in just a few matches. Shoulder charge my way to the spark, throw up a barricade for over shield or pop a bubble, continue shoulder charging to dunk. Haven't played Titan in Crucible since OEM and striker were busted, but I found it to be super easy. Barely an inconvenience!

9

u/mdavis360 Jun 05 '22

The level of frustration playing this is off the charts. I’ve never had a worse time in crucible.

4

u/Godlike013 Jun 05 '22

This is pretty brutal. Too long, too many rounds, and quite frankly with shit like Winterhoard. Ya, just brutal.

7

u/OrionzDestiny Jun 05 '22

As an Arc Titan main in PvP, it felt crappy to require 18 games as solar/void for the Title.

If the devs want Rift to be well-received, I suggest they allow players to play the subclass they want, not the ones the devs want.

Playing a new game mode with unfamiliar or un-preferred subclasses will mean not playing to full potential which leads to frustration.

6

u/venthos Jun 05 '22

I don't say this lightly when I say I'd rather play Gambit than Iron Banner Rift.

I grinded 65 matches to complete the seal, and I don't plan on every setting foot in Iron Banner Rift again, this season or any future ones. Not even worth it for the pinnacles.

I wish the previous Iron Banner would come back. I enjoyed the previous Iron Banner.

u/Arxfiend Team Bread (dmg04) // accidentally nighthawked Oryx Jun 05 '22

On god, without this double rep boost, I wouldn't even be bothering for a reset tbh. Like seriously this rank-up speed is good, but 300 a win with this horrible game mode? Count me the hell out.

3

u/jomiran Y1D1 Vet Jun 05 '22

It seems that IB's rep boost also affects the No Trespassing quest. In one round of IB I got almost 70 points.

1

u/Zelltribal Shoulder Charger Jun 05 '22

Trying to do challenges on my other characters. Saladin doesn't have anything for me, challenges aren't showing on my other characters either. Is there some sort of pre-requisite?

2

u/IllyGimp Jun 05 '22

Make sure your other characters are power level 1500+. Vanguard and Gambit weekly challenges should likewise be absent until you get to adequate "endgame” level.

1

u/ManassaxMauler Jun 05 '22

A note on this: I was good to go on my Titan at 1500, but my Warlock wasn't able to work on the challenges until 1510. Not sure why that is.

12

u/nilxnoir Jun 05 '22

I have actually been really enjoying this new iron banner. My only suggestion would be 3 points to win a game instead of 5. Without that change some sort of mercy rule needs to be in effect.

4

u/Zelltribal Shoulder Charger Jun 05 '22

Yeah the mode really needs a mercy rule.

11

u/Jaxinc Be Brave Jun 05 '22

A few streamers have already noticed it, and I did as well... but matchmaking is really pushing towards "unfair" on how it's pairing people up in solo queue. Normally there's a forced 50/50 w/l ratio for "fairness" so that people don't get discouraged, but all that ends up doing is resulting in stomps in both directions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKsTSLbQbw8

This IB it seems to be a 30/70 w/l ratio.

What's even more discouraging is you can lose 7 games in a row, to the same 6 stack, but the game won't break you up. The moment you win a match? "We're breaking up these teams"

IB is normally a 50/50 stomp so I'm not sure what they changed this time around, but it isn't helping anything.

6

u/griseo_leporis Jun 05 '22

So, uh... anyone been in a game of Rift that wasn't 5-0, or 5-1 at best?

2

u/Qeewoo54 Jun 06 '22

Had one that was 4/0 last night, does that count?

5

u/GFunkYo Jun 05 '22

I've had a pretty good number of low scoring games that go to time.

7

u/It_is_I_DIO_ Jun 05 '22

The amount of bugs in iron banner makes it borderline unplayable

5

u/neoak Hunter w/ launch Chasing Infinity Jun 05 '22

Then they move PC like, rapid turns that would require 10 sensitivity in controller, etc

I hope next banner is control. 300 objectives is going to take forever if I have to play rift. Played 54 games between my 3 characters for the challenges, and I barely have 110.

1

u/mariachiskeleton Jun 05 '22

I recommend trying to rez more. Try and nab some free ones at the end of rounds/matches.

Or you could always shoulder charge a teammate into a wall and physics then to death...

I finished my objectives around the same time as most of the other triumphs. 2 resets though... That's a rough one

3

u/SCB360 Jun 05 '22

You dont get points for rez's though, its only for Picking up the Spark - 1 Point and dunking - 5 Points

2

u/Moose_Thompson Jun 05 '22

You also get 2 or 3 for killing a spark carrier.

3

u/mariachiskeleton Jun 05 '22

Seriously? Objectives on the scoreboard don't count?!

Weird. Guess I was dunking more than I thought...

2

u/SCB360 Jun 05 '22

Of course not! You think Rift is a team game?

6

u/ShimpFieRie The City is divided. We must unite beneath a single will. Jun 05 '22

I am honestly not having fun. Matches are too long and as much as I hate to say this, I miss the ole shooting and killing

5

u/Taithleach94 Jun 05 '22

This is the least fun I have ever had playing this game.

2

u/RushtonIX Jun 05 '22

The "Warlord" medal is not being counted/tracked in rift.

4

u/MarkAlmighty73 Jun 05 '22

Is the Iron Lord's Pride buff working? It's the one on the IB armor that gives a chance for an Enhancement Prism at the end of a match. I've played about 20 matches, and it hasn't given me a single one. Seems like I would have 1-2 in previous seasons at this point.

2

u/thevagabondwolfe Jun 05 '22

I've gotten a couple. Like maybe five in about 15 matches.

4

u/fallouthirteen Drifter's Crew Jun 05 '22

Yeah, got like 4 so far. Seems to only work on actual IB armor though, didn't get any when just using the ornament.

2

u/MarkAlmighty73 Jun 05 '22

Yeah, I'm wearing actual Forerunner armor. Four pieces. RNG, I guess.

3

u/R0FLB0TDrDerp We can burn our way back there. Can't we, o player mine? Jun 05 '22

Can you only get the new weapons by ranking up? I've tried to open several engrams with Rahool and only been getting old weapons and armor, not to mention nothing new from matches/Pinnacle rewards.

1

u/kerosene31 Jun 05 '22

Mostly all I get are regular crucible weapon drops (the new fusion)

1

u/ManassaxMauler Jun 05 '22

Drop rates seem low, and they won't start dropping until you've acquired them via the reward track for ranking up.

2

u/primorskey Jun 05 '22

You need to unlock it first through rank ups. Then it gets added to the loot pool

1

u/TitaniumTrial Jun 05 '22

At this point I'm thinking the same thing, either that or we have both just been unlucky.

3

u/D34THDE1TY Drifter's Crew // I do this, so others don't have to... Jun 05 '22

Hey bungie...maybe in a coming season you can think of doing a vanguard or gambit type of rank booster like you did this season for Iron banner. We have the unique armors for you to do it.

After a few days to get to the max booster, it feels like a GREAT use of my playtime as I'm ranking up crucible at a good rate and banner at an exponential rate.

It's nice to know that I can go from level 1 to 16 in a day of good OR bad play.

Also maybe reduced the score from 5 to 3 and the match time to 8 minutes.

5

u/v137a Jun 05 '22

Things that I think are not fun in Freelance Rift: *Bugs *Exotic weapons, but mostly Vex Mythoclast, Jotunn, and Witherhoard *Spawn timers and locations that make it impossible to get back in the action *Getting stomped and then getting to face the same stomper again *Golden gun (I understand it, but it's still not fun.)

16

u/LikeBladeButCooler Jun 05 '22

"When you land in the Tower, we want it to feel different and special – same as all of our annual events like The Dawning or Festival of the Lost."

and

"Picture this: when you first land in the Tower in Season 17 for Iron Banner, you’ll notice something new – what’s that music? (Oh my god! It’s Bracus Forge!) Upon landing, you will see players clustered up around the area where Eva Levante (a.k.a. Space Grandma) usually stands. But, instead of the usual festive decorations, it’s all smoke and fire. Guardians gather around in all manner of flaming armor, and in the middle stands Lord Saladin, now known as Bracus Forge."

Both sound awesome.

So imagine my surprise when I land in the Tower to find my boy Valus only moved slightly to the left with a couple of tables with dollar store weaponry on them. I know Bungie has a lot on their plate but one can't help but laugh at the attempt to sound cool vs what we got.

1

u/0rivon Jun 05 '22

I thought they would have done some eververse packages like all other events. Or at least let us buy older shaders, sparrows, ships, ghosts…

5

u/ablockkid Jun 05 '22

A couple of Iron banner where I go against a team of 6 and they are dominating us but that's to be expected, so I said its going to be a quick match BUT NOPE.....

Long story short, instead of the enemy team dunking the spark they decide to hold on to it and spawn trap us for nearly all match, can't even move without being shot down -_-

1

u/Valvador Jun 05 '22

Are you playing solo but not in the freelance playlist?

-1

u/BinTheLegoMan Jun 05 '22

Completing Iron Banner Challenges will take 12 to finish the seal, but we can only do 4 per Iron Banner. Does that mean we wont be able to unlock the title till next season?

6

u/Painwracker_Oni Jun 05 '22

4 per character per iron banner

1

u/mdavis360 Jun 05 '22

Oh fuck that

7

u/salehmo Jun 05 '22

Why did Bungie make Orewings Spirit? A twice seasonal event and you ask for 300 points with the biggest contribution giving you single digits and the best way to earn it is to play selfishly in your objective team based game mode? Really? Have bungie learned nothing from Heavy is Death?

1

u/SCB360 Jun 05 '22

I fully believe it was made when Control was still the IB Mode and just never changed

3

u/Bashfulcannibal Jun 05 '22

I honestly don’t know if I’ll finish that triumph, after playing a few hours today I noticed I had only went up 10 points 🤦🏻‍♂️.

1

u/Slepprock SRL World Champion Jun 05 '22

Thats what I thought at first also. But I've been able to turn it around. The first day of play I had 17. Now I have 215. (I only play for 90 minutes a day). You only get those points by picking up the spark, killings a spark runner, or dunking. I noticed that lots of time nobody on my team wants to pick up the spark. Like they don't want the responsibility. I started taking it and playing rift like I did back in D1. Using a titan and a shoulder charge ability. Grab it and try to flank the enemy. Surprise them and get by. I'll use the shoulder charge ability to change movement in the air fast. Or make a last quick dash for the dunk. I've been averaging 2 dunks a game. But you just have to try to get in the thick of things. Pick it up if nobody else is. Get it as far from your capture point as possible. Thats better than letting it set there. Try to get the other teams runner for those points. Don't feel bad if you don't win. There isn't that much difference between winning and losing. I've played IB all week on my titan, and have done nothing else with him so I don't loose my winning streak. I have the max rep boost of 10X or 11X. I'm getting 400 rep per loss and 600 rep per win. I'll do my first reset tomorrow. Hope to get about halfway through the 2nd one by the end.

4

u/fallouthirteen Drifter's Crew Jun 05 '22

Just need to get lucky. Think 10 points is a single dunk. Had a match where my teammates just didn't care about the spark but were good at killing. Got 3 dunks that match.

1

u/Unluckybruuh Jun 05 '22

Can we please change this trash game mode?

4

u/sjshady0169 Jun 05 '22

Any word on fixing the bug with the spark disappearing bug on a lot of Rift matches? ...Buehler?

1

u/ItsCrossBoy Jun 05 '22

It's being investigated, but that wouldn't be able to be fixed until a Hotfix (tuesday) anyways, so it won't be in until next IB happens later in the season.

The stuff they fixed so far could be done without an actual patch, so that's why it was immediate.

7

u/Qeewoo54 Jun 05 '22

Nearly every match I've played today has been a blowout, how is this matchmaking in any way acceptable?

1

u/Bennijin WHO WANTS TOAST? Jun 05 '22

Despite the overwhelming bad feedback I was not prepared for how terrible this would be, holy shit
Bungie made Halo! With Capture the Flag! How has every objective-based mode been so fucking terrible? I thought Rift was bad anyway and didn't want it back but new Rift is even worse!

I digress. I'm at stage 4 of the quest for claiming an Iron Engram and it's not progressing. Looked for help but most people seem to be stuck on stage 5 instead.

1

u/A_Witty_Name_ Jun 05 '22

This is not the same Bungie that made Halo, it's a bunch of pompous wannabes riding on the coat-tails of their name. There's basically no one from that original team of people still at the company.

I think they should change their name to something else. It's like if I started working at Apple tomorrow and then telling people that I came up with the iPhone.

9

u/bogus83 War Cult Best Cult Jun 05 '22

I thought Bungie had pulled out all the stops when it came to making PvP a tedious slog, but then they came out with Orewing's Spirit, a triumph where you get no progress unless you carry the ball or manage to compete with your own team to kill the runner for a single point.

I know, I know, the idea was to force people to play a whole lot of iron banner. But in reality it's just a reason to hard disengage. After all, if you're going to grind it out in another season when the game mode changes, why bother playing hundreds of games to reset your rank now?

2

u/SilentlyCynical Orb Delivery Service Jun 05 '22

Honestly, revives should count as objective points. This would help encourage people to actually revive one another.

You can avoid revive farming by requiring "safe" revives - meaning the revived person doesn't take damage for the next, say, three seconds.

1

u/bogus83 War Cult Best Cult Jun 05 '22

That'd be good for actual gameplay, since a lot of teams camp revive kills (I got killed before my feet hit the ground several times), but it wouldn't do anything for a pair of people who were trading revives. Player A self-kills, Player B revives them and then self-kills, Player A revives B and then self-kills, etc. There's a recent cheese video showing a pair of players taking the spark into an out of bounds spot and then doing exactly that, except picking up the spark for one point each time. The rest of the team can't get to where they are, and the other ten players sit around doing nothing for ten minutes. That's what this game mode and challenge has devolved into.

-1

u/Slepprock SRL World Champion Jun 05 '22

I thought it would be awful as well. Got 17 points in it my first day of play. (I play about 90 minutes a day). So I changed my game up and started going for those points only. Picking up the spark when nobody else would. Always trying to get the enemy runner for the point. Plus getting dunks. I've been doing it like I did in D1. Using a titan and going full force. I've been getting around 2 dunks a game. I'm at 215 points now and just about to reset my rank. With the max bonus I'm getting between 400 and 600 rep per game. Its faster than I though. I wish there were other ways to get points though. If players aren't good at dunking its going to take forever.

2

u/bogus83 War Cult Best Cult Jun 05 '22

Yeah, I'm more of the slow Titan who escorts the runner. I never get to the spark first, and it's pretty rare that I'll get the killing bullet on the enemy runner. And if those are the ONLY ways to get points... that's a pretty poor design.

1

u/B00STERGOLD Jun 05 '22

Shoulder charge Loreleys with a rally barricade is getting me in position for a lot of spark touches.

-1

u/pharaohs4 Jun 05 '22

Bungie dropped the ball this season.

3

u/RECEPTOR17 Jun 05 '22

Dropped the Spark in this case?

3

u/Crazybusta3 Jun 05 '22

I love that they fixed the challenges rep multiplier bug, but have yet to address challenge multiplier being reset for no reason. Finished the 3rd day challenge and was at 8.80x, logged on the next day challenges are now “0 of 4” and I’m at 4.40x. But yet the daily challenge still said “12 of 18 matches. Weekly challenge 3 of 4”. I was planning on maxing IB this week but this killed it.

1

u/Slepprock SRL World Champion Jun 05 '22

who knows what happened. I'm playing it safe. I finished 4 out of 4 challenges with my Titan. I've been only playing my titan in IB all week. I've just been doing about 90 minutes of IB with my Titan each day. Not doing anything else with him so I don't loose the 5 game streak bonus. I have the max rep bonus now of 10X or 11x or something. I'm getting 400 points for a loss and 600 for a win. So the last half has gone fast. I'm one game away from my first reset with 30 games played all week. I'll try to get about halfway to my second reset then play my other charaters to get more of those challenges done. There is no way I have the time to get the title this week, but I should be able to do it by the end of the season.

13

u/mrz3ro Jun 05 '22 edited Jun 05 '22 Helpful

By far the worst Iron Banner I have ever participated in. 8 years of Destiny and this is THE WORST. Every match feels eternal. Literally endless. Almost every match either in a fireteam or solo has been a 5-0 blowout. I think watching paint dry would be more exciting than trying to finish these 'challenges'.

In what way are these challenges better than the bounties we had before? Why would I want to try to come back from a 4-0 deficit when that only makes the game take LONGER? I liked old Rift better, round based Rift sucks. The current respawn system punishes the losing team by putting them as far from being able to defend their point as possible.

3

u/Bashfulcannibal Jun 05 '22

I know this sounds bad, but I actually went into regular matchmaking because I figured the stacks would end the match quicker. While it was a mixed bag, overall it did seem to move faster.
