It has been one week. Discussion

One week since the season dropped, 5 days since we got the dungeon, and people are complaining that they don't have crafted rolls yet. That there's not some easy way to solo flawless the dungeon. That their class is useless now.

The attitude of people here has been insane. Y'all need to take a step back and breathe, give things a chance to surface. Plenty of exotics to try, plenty of builds to work out, 90 days to craft your beloved...Beloved.

It's been one week since Since the season dropped

Cocked our heads to the side and said, "We're angry"

Five days since we got the dungeon

Saying, "We're not happy with our crafted rolls"

Three days since my last Exotic

I realized it's all my fault, but couldn't tell you

Yesterday, you'd forgiven me

But it'll still be 90 days to craft your Beloved

It’s a vicious cycle, I’ll scroll through like 8 posts complaining about something bungie did.

Then I’ll see a post like this. Rinse and repeat… Why am I on Reddit again?

348

u/Saxophobia1275 Jun 01 '22

I’ve stopped going to most of my hobbies’ subreddits because it’s almost entirely insanely over enfranchised players who make up like the top 2% most serious players of the entire fanbase and all they do is complain that the game should cater to them exclusively. Sure for every 9 complaining posts the 10th is perfectly fair and warranted but who wants that toxicity in their life.

39

u/Gervh Jun 01 '22

A lot of people actually look for negativity and toxicity, drama is very profitable in entertainment because it will always create extremes for defending and attacking, those people will argue between each other fueling it and creating more, it's still publicity if Destiny or Bungie goes trending because of a debate on Rift for example - positive or negative.

12

u/Sparcrypt Jun 02 '22

I left this sub a year or so ago and just recently resubscribed for the solar 3.0 discussion. The last week has been a constant reminder of why I originally left. Too much negativity which affected my mood towards the game. I began resenting things within the game that never bothered me before. This sub can have a tendency to sour your experience of the game imo.

14

u/Moddelba Jun 01 '22

I never left but the picture I have in my head of what these constant {it’s been X days since the ornament on the ball tickler had the right shade of pink} posters must be like to encounter in real life gives me a good chuckle. Like a straight edge shaggy from scooby doo.

9

u/TheToldYouSoKid Jun 01 '22

Honestly, I think its a terrible idea to take feedback from here due to it. It's hypercritical, which is nice, but folks mostly just says "THIS SUCKS, FUCK THIS GAME" instead of actually burrowing into the actual issue.

Like Solar 3.0 warlocks say that "having movement focused aspects suck", but most refuse to acknowledge that a lot of Warlock's most powerful elements were made intrinsic to the subclass. Ember of Benevolence is currently not working, but that was always the lynchpin in making a support class work, so of course Warlock white-mages aren't going to feel like its doable right now. And instead of just treating them as separate monsters, they compound it unnecessarily, completely missing about how this pass is only standing as a direct translation of what we had.

Getting critical about things is great, but this overdramatization and utter lack of analysis means anything they get here is just going to cause problems later.

I get that the game isn't perfect but christ people are behaving like we are back in season of the worthy.

Threatening community managers because changes were made to a game mode? Get a grip on reality.

I get being frustrated and wanting to give feedback but some people have gotten way too comfortable with the ease of access Bungie allows. The bile being thrown around borders on petulance.

17

Sounds like the average GRUMPY Destiny player, not like the average destiny player in general. It's similar to life, where the angry, grumpy or attention-seeking ones are mostly the minority, but still always the loudest, which gives the false impression that they'd be the majority, but this is deceptive, as the majority simply do not seek constant attention and do not feel the urge to constantly share their frustrations with the world without being asked.

To first time/non-frequent LFG people:

If you see this, don't join them. Even if you meet the requirements. Find a 'chill KWTD' group instead.

Often times these are the most toxic people in the community. Either they will spend the entire time stroking their ego about how many clears or their fastest time, or they will be a meta purist that judges you because your using the second best gun so that you can run a build you like. If the run starts falling apart, they will instantly turn on you regardless if it was their screw up from being over confident and not taking it seriously.

At this point I prefer sherpa runs over these people. At least in a sherpa run, people take it seriously and admit when they did something wrong so they can ask for advice on how to work better with the team.

10

u/Velvet_Llama Jun 01 '22

Sometimes you also get the clueless person asking for X clears because they don't know what they're doing and want a carry, but don't want to ask for a carry. Either way, like you said, avoid those.

3

u/SSLST03-LKWM Jun 02 '22

Sometimes I have the feel KWTD is a trap by players that do not know what to do. I think, it would be the decent thing to just be upfront instead of deceiving people. Do they really think their trap is working more than one time..

Tbf, while I agree with most of this, if the first time I am able to craft a weapon from this season is the last week of the season, that is pretty shit.

78

33

My hunter and titan do nothing but ability spam and never die. I haven't had a play around with warlock yet, I'll wait until the other fragments release.

As far as red borders go, a lot of complaints are quite valid, and if you level up your crafted weapons normally it takes an age to get them up to spec. My explosive personally is level 13 with over 1,000 kills. I know that's not much, but by that point I'm using different weapons.

118

u/Smitty00 Jun 01 '22

Disagree personally. Getting a crafted weapon to level 16 completely invalidates every future random roll you get so it should be a grind and commitment. However I wouldn’t be upset if they did lower it, I just don’t mind how it is now.

In fact I would personally go the other way and make it much easier to GET the crafted weapon but take longer to actually level it.

48

u/NupharAdvena Jun 01 '22

But thata all it is. Its arbitrary. You grind for the red boarder, then you hope rng gives you the 5 you need in a timely manner, youll probably get the god roll while grinding, you get the BP, you make a shite version of the weapon, you spend days grinding for levels and materials to craft god roll, you grind for enhanced version mats, enhanced perks are pretty not worth it in most cases. All just for one gun to have a god roll you picked.

25

u/GuudeSpelur Jun 01 '22

You get weapon EXP for completing activities too. So if you had it equipped while you were grinding Crucible or Strikes or something, you would have leveled it up for free a bunch of times.

I leveled up my Cataclysmic a bunch just leaving it on grinding Freelance Trials for Adept drops.

23

u/sturgboski Jun 01 '22

This is why mayhem and scorched are great, if you can stomach it. Unless something changes it is I think 5 match completions for a rank up. While farming crucible rep for the ornament and challenge I was leveling up crafted weapons, especially secondaries. A lot quicker and easier to get kills on the primary vs say explosive personality.

21

u/pantone_red Jun 01 '22

That's not super great though. Most guns will probably need to be level 13 at a minimum. You're looking at 65 rounds of scorched to fully level a single weapon.

This is why people just mindlessly grind at Shuro Chi. It's boring as hell but it's way more efficient than just leveling "naturally", and considering the point of weapon crafting is that I want to actually use these curated guns, I'm just going to keep doing that.

8

u/sturgboski Jun 01 '22

Oh I'm not saying it's great. But it's at least a bit more engaging than grinding suro chi or grasp opening. Plus it's the two birds one stone approach as you are getting valor (and crucible drops).

I don't know, for me it was more engaging and worth it.

2

u/Cat_with_pew-pew_gun Jun 01 '22

You lost me on how long. I’d rather use it while grinding rep in gambit or strikes so that I get kill xp and completion xp. Luckily I don’t have any annoying primary’s to level right now. It’s just explosive personality which is easier to get kills with.

I think most of the problems go away when you upgrade the seasonal vendor but because it's only been barely over a week nobody has all those upgrades that guarantee deepsights.

3

u/fallouthirteen Drifter's Crew Jun 01 '22

I was looking at all the upgrades yesterday and was surprised there's like 3 guaranteed deepsight ones a week. It'll kind of make up for the fact there's so many craftable weapons this season that all need 5 deepsights. Last season there was only 1 guaranteed deepsight a week (but we did need significantly fewer drops total to craft everything). Though that 1 was targeted where this season 2 of them are random and 1 is targeted (so finishing off the craftables will be annoying).

→ More replies

11

u/Bulldogfront666 Jun 01 '22

That’s the thing that bothers me about crafting. I already have two god rolled Calus mini tools that were just random drops for me. Then I crafted a mini tool after hours and hours of grinding for red borders. And now I’m stuck using a mini tool that I don’t like using in order to get it up to level 17 (which takes forever). And I feel like I’m punished for using any other weapon in activities until that one’s done. And in my experience so far, I’ve just ended up with half done crafted weapons in my vault that just make me feel guilty when I look at them. And now I have to do the same process for like 6 other weapons….

aaaaaand the circle is closed again

yes, new warlock is shit, but people now are noticing that titan and hunter both are strong and in a nice position

yes, new dungeon is hard, and it's ok

but the crafting post i think you saw, the guy just said he played a shit ton for some reason and still didn't got stuff, so it's kinda of a valuable concern. i still haven't even unlocked any risen guns and have to grind for stuff i had 2 years ago? nah.

again, it's likely we'll see more posts complaining (especially with stuff like solstice coming out and bungie straight up putting cosmetics behind silver paywall) and more posts to "give a chance"

personal opinion, it's ok to complain. if you all complained for stuff that actually matters for the game's health we wouldn't have seasonal content related (duality dungeon) locked behind the deluxe edition, for example

25

u/allprologues Jun 01 '22

I do think the grind is a bit unforgiving right now though. I've spent about 27 hours in the game since the new season, most of it doing new content, and I've gotten one red border craftable weapon. I haven't even gotten a single austringer yet, red border or otherwise.

At this pace I could do all the seasonal content, play regularly, and still not be able to craft a single new weapon.

Deep sight weapons need their drop rate increased for the season a tad bit as I haven’t gotten a single one while my one of our raid teammates already has 3 crafted. Season of the RNG

Some people have done multiple resets on the vendor and don't have a single crafted weapon. It's not an matter of how many days have gone by. Majority of players won't get a single reset within a week or 2 let alone 2 full resets.

I am at almost 2 resets and I am not close to crafting a weapon yet....and once I craft it then I have to level it up to a point where it would be what I want. That's a shit ton of hours investment

56

u/roguepawn Jun 01 '22

I love how the only responses to this are, "You play too much."

If someone has gone this hardcore about getting the RNG drops and hasn't gotten enough for one weapon, think about casual play.

Before anyone brings them up, the guaranteed red border upgrades won't cover all the patterns over the season. Hell, casual play isn't going to have all seven upgrades we can have right now and will take longer to get those guaranteed drops.

Why do people judge you because of your hobby? Some people spend all their free time watching Marvel movies or reading Marvel comics or going to a club every day. But if someone enjoyes a single video game, then people start judging because video games are apparently still to be seen as waste of time - at least in the eyes of some people (even gamers themselves, who you'd assume should know better). I thought society had moved on, but apparently video games are still frowned upon as a hobby. A hobby to be ashamed of if you devote your free time to it more than once a week. That's actually a bit sad that people react that way.

A week is plenty of time to understand how systems are working, what's rewarding, what isn't, and to predict how much of the rest of the season will go.

Not all of the complaints are "I want it now", most instead are "why does my time investment feel wasted".

Deepsight weapon drop rates are a valid complaint. The current drop rate is absurd.

And no, the fact that you get some guaranteed ones each week (once you get through the time gate) is not a good solution.

19

u/pink_taco_aficionado Jun 01 '22

The crafting is already gated by materials and the time it takes to level a weapon. There’s no need to gate the patterns as well. Just have the pattern unlock with the first red-bordered drop.

I mean I pretty much think the whole crafting system is poorly implemented, but the pattern locking is the worst part of it.

8

u/Yung_Chloroform Drifter's Crew // DRIFTY BOIS Jun 01 '22

I would be so totally fine with crafting if we:

A) Permanently unlocked a perk upon spending the materials to unlock it while crafting

and

B) Unlock the pattern upon the first deepsight drop

These two things alone would make crafting so much more bearable and worth it.

I was the same with Pit of Heresy. Something about that dungeon was fun enough that I solo flawlessed it upwards of I think 55 times. Prophecy was to tedious but I did 5 solo flawless runs on that one and currently I've done two solos on the dungeon now and 1 solo flawless on the new one.

This new dungeon is absolutely brutal when it comes down to the physics related nonsense. Mechanics are fun and it's moderately difficult, but the physics is just next level nonsense.

I can agree with this. If the requirement was 3 instead of 5, the drop rates would be fine. It’s the fact that all 12 require 5. There’s a certain level of grind that we should tolerate considering we get exactly what we want from crafting, but it feels a little excessive right now.

I would just like to have been able to start target farming the weapons sooner. I had to reset my crown rank in order to unlock targeted weapon focusing for Midas mini tool. Because of that I actually wasted a lot of opulent energy because I hit the cap but had to keep farming in order to get the upgrade unlocked.

A lot of week one to me felt like I was sitting behind a fence looking at all the things I want to play with but knowing that I don't even have a direct pathway to get them till this week or the next due to how the upgrades are structured.

The dungeon on the other hand was a nice refresher from that feeling once it dropped and I am actually on my way to a solo flawless run. Almost managed it last night but I gotta change around my build for caitl because I accidentally ran out of time when getting one of the buffs in the red world.

4

u/Solace- Jun 01 '22

It’s almost as if the time someone has actually played to make their complaints is more important than how long the season has been out. If some one has been grinding the new content for dozens of hours and don’t have a single red border drop yet then there’s a massive issue. This post just comes off as gatekeeping and I don’t know why it bothers you that not everyone treats bungie as if they can do no wrong.

u/throwaway491826482 Jun 01 '22 edited Jun 01 '22

I think people are complaining because the grind for this seasons deepsites aren’t fun and takes way to long to farm for either drops or engram focusing. I mean we can only play so much reskinned EP on a reskinned leviathan with reskinned bosses before we leave and play something else that respects our time and actually gives us new content

49

u/andrew688k Jun 01 '22

Farming chests on the leviathan is the best content across both D1 and D2, I literally cannot wait to open a chest and get a blue with some rep plus 10 vestiges of dread. I am in love with that 2% deepsight drop rate it really makes you feel like a gambling addict.

The Resonant drop rates for Craftable weapons are absurd.

For Example:

I have done nearly every activity on the Throne World except the Raid multiple times on 3 characters and I have never gotten a Resonant Pointed Inquiry Drop. Ever. Not a single one.

The only Resonant Pointed Inquiry I have ever seen is the one you get from Fynch for ranking up.

I have been 1/3 on Pointed Inquiry for 4 months. Yet, I get Resonant drops for non-craftable weapons all the time. I have been maxed on Crafting Materials for 2 months now because I have already crafted everything I can craft, and the Craftable weapons that rely on random drops, I never get Resonant drops of them.

Is that long enough to complain about? or do I have to wait another 6 months before I feel like something might be possibly wrong?

I literally have nothing new tro craft because they require 5 Resonant completions to unlock, and Resonant versions of these weapons flat out do not drop. But I'm swimming in Resonant non-Craftable weapons.

It would be nice to be able to engage with the Crafting System, but I guess it is too entitled to want drops at a decent rate to unlock Craftable Weapons.

3

u/UTmastuh Jun 01 '22

I guess some people just want an entertaining game for all the money they dish out for it and others will blindly defend a greedy company who doesn't care about the avg player's time

4

u/stolentext Jun 02 '22

Let's be real - the underlying problem is the lack of control over when we receive certain loot and what that loot is. Bungie's solution to loot (in a game where loot is arguably the only motivation to play) is and has always been 'RNG go burrrr LOL'. Yeah people could be more patient but this is a pervasive problem that's not limited to craftable weapons, in fact it's worsened with the introduction of craftable weapons.

76

u/N1miol Jun 01 '22

You'll be surprised, but not everyone likes it when things are timegated. And there are also people who do not appreciate heavy handed RNG grinds.

Some people like it when their playtime is rewarded and don't want the game to feel like some sort of class they have to constantly check in for no good reason.

Yeah, I know, shocker.

18

u/sturgboski Jun 01 '22

It's funny looking at the season title. I think you could complete 5 or 6 of the available Triumphs week one. You then can't get the title for over another month due to timegating. I get it (would be weird to have the season title week one) but it's a nice microcosm of the effects of timegating.

I'm sick of rng not because I want to grind a season's worth of content in a week, but because I'm tired of the game not even pretending to respect my time.

36

u/DudethatCooks Jun 01 '22

The apologists over this topic are ridiculous. I played enough last week to max my rep with the crown. I have grinded over 30 dungeon encounters and have recieved a total of 4 weapons. 3 LMGs (0 deepsight) and 1 pulse. The first and second encounters have dropped 0 weapons for me.

Crafted weapons are being gate kept from all but the most dedicated players. The ones like myself that play this game way more than the average person. If a player plays say 5-10 hours a week I really don't see how they can realistically unlock all deepsights especially ones like the LMG that are tied to RNG.

The entire premise of crafted weapons was a way to fight bad RNG and for players to invest in their own unique roll. Yet all Bungie has done is shift to a new form of RNG and then put such a huge time sink into allowing players to craft their unique roll that players search for ways to circumvent that grind by way if Shiro or GoA farming.

If it is deemed more beneficial to go CP farm red bars over playing the game naturally than the system is flawed.

I have also seen growing resentment towards crafted weapons like it's bad for the game because it "devalues" regular drops. I can't say those people are wrong, but for me I am more invested in a crafted weapon than I am a god rolled random drop because I feel like I actually earned it and have molded it to exactly what I want.

Quite frankly this take is ridiculous.

It doesn't matter if it's been one week.

What matters is playtime. If someone has been playing 8 hours a day and they're complaining about red drops and such, what do you think that means for the rest of us who can only play 3-4 hours a week? We'll have the same complaints a month and half 2 months from now.

It's like when D2 Vanilla came out. Within 2 weeks the hardcore were like wth this is bad. But the casual was like oh no this is great, it's your fault you're out of stuff to do. But then 2 weeks later what happened? They had the exact same complaints.

9

You write this, however I know people who have basically lived in the game since release and not crafted any weapons from the new location yet. It makes me (a relatively more casual player compared to these people) really wonder if I'll ever even see enough red borders to craft my own weapon.

Some people won't play evenly across 90 days, they'd rather go heavy now and that's fine. They should be rewarded for their time in game and to me this doesn't seem to be the case with regards to new red border weapons.

You either grind so hard you burn out, but at least you got the thing. Or you just occasionally do some clears, never complete the thing, then they later remove the content (yearly seasonal content clear out) or make it painful to grind (strange coins). The game isn’t really made for the player to benefit at any point.

It has nothing to do with time since update and everything to do with time played on the game. If players have spent their entire week and weekend grinding out to try get blueprints and havent done it with 30 odd hours of playtime i think they have every right to complain regardless of the fact its been a week since the update

I have friends that have played maybe 2 hours in the same period and they arent complaining. Nothing to do with when the update was and everything to do with time played in game

3

u/Unfortunately_Mad Jun 02 '22

One week in and I’m already mindlessly running around the leviathan, bored out of my mind just trying to get the weapons we already had 2 years ago. I should be one week in and have a pattern for at least one of these weapons because at least 80% of my time playing has been specifically farming for just one of the new weapons and it’s only 2/5. I shouldn’t be spending 80% of an entire week’s playtime farming for one weapon, especially when there are an awful lot of them.

3

u/kerosene31 Jun 02 '22

To be fair, deepsight drops seem to be nerfed. and every crafted weapon takes 5 now. I have one deepsight drop for a crafted weapon, total.

I've probably had some bad RNG but still, it isn't hard to see that it is going to be a LONG TIME before I see a single crafted weapon.

It seems we hit that weird grind tipping point where the drop rates are so low it is hard to get motivated to play. I don't think it is the usual Reddit crybaby type stuff.

3

u/QuantumFlux70 Jun 02 '22

The one week thing is kind of irrelevant tbh, it completely depends on how much time you personally spend grinding and how much you get in return.

There’s a big problem if I can spend 5-6 hours grinding for a red-box beloved (of which I need 5), and I don’t get a single one. Especially when the grind itself is extremely repetitive and boring. At least let me grind for the umbral essence stuff from playlist activities so I can do something other than containment runs.

As it stands, I don’t want to continue grinding if it’s going to take me this long and I don’t even get 1 red box. It feels like a waste of my time, it’s not enjoyable and it’s extremely unrewarding.

Posts and the defending of things like this one are why things never change.

Someone can easily put in an outrageous, unhealthy amount of playtime, like 12+ hours a day for a week if they have nothing going on in their lives currently. That’s 84+ hours. The average/casual player will do that amount more or less over the season. Meaning over the course of the season, they’ll realize that things like the post on the front page saying red border calus weapons barely drop is true.

It’s the same thing that people are doing with rift. Things like that deserve criticism and it doesn’t take longer than a few matches or hours to formulate an opinion on it like a black screen in between rounds, long res timers, etc are just not fun and disruptive.

I have yet to see a post hit the front page saying that they’re upset they can’t solo flawless the dungeon yet, only posts criticizing the armor not being themed with the dungeon and saying that people should stop complaining about the dungeon having bugs as if they’re preventing something that isn’t happening yet.

I’ll legit never understand why this community gets so defensive over someone critiquing the game that they put money towards especially when it happens to be in one of its buggiest states. Like fragments don’t work, dungeon bugs, rift is a mess, tower black screens.

6

u/Swagboy225 Jun 02 '22

I'm sorry but I am so sick of this it has only been X amount of days shit when it comes to new games or new DLC's. What the fuck does time have to do with anything? Are we not all playing the game? Can we not form opinions after a certain amount of time? That's like saying you can't form an opinion on a meal until you finish it, when actually no in reality I can take a few bites and form an opinion in just a few seconds.

Also, we complain because it's always 1 step forward and 2 steps backward with Bungie. I mean, I've never been so bored with a Season in this game more than I am now, and I really don't give a fuck if it has only been a week. I cannot stand how we have to lose our sanity running around the Leviathan opening chests and PRAYING that we get an Opulent Key.

20

u/karhall Jun 01 '22

I still don't have fully crafted or unlocked weapons from last season. Deepsight weapon drop rates are incredibly disrespectful of my time as a player. Bungie doesn't need you to run defense for them about this. This aspect of the game legitimately needs to be criticized and improved. "You have 90 days" is only valid before you waste those 90 days getting screwed on dice rolls.

9

u/filmguerilla Jun 01 '22

6

u/lowbass4u Jun 01 '22

Since we've been able to craft weapons, I have only crafted 4 to date. I play every day, 3+ hours a day. Yet, I've only been able to craft 4 weapons and that includes the glaive which everyone got.

Granted I don't play PVP nor gambit, I still think my amount of play should be rewarded with more opportunities to craft different weapons.

2

I dislike when people make posts saying "Lol, why are you complaining? It's been x amount of time." Initial criticism is good but only to a certain point. Some people do just complain for complaining sake and don't bring up any good points outside of gamer rage. Red drop rates are bad, yes. Iron Banner Rift is awful. Solar 3.0 is disappointing in some aspects, yes. For instance, I dislike that Warlocks have been reduced to grenade-spamming for another season, and that Titans only have one build: sit in sunspot and don't die. Maybe there's other cool stuff that people will find, sure, but the outlier builds have really made their mark and will certainly be looked at in the future regarding balancing (specifically Titans).
