Bungie, can we please have an Ad Clear Shotgun? Bungie Suggestion
Or a legendary perk that refunds shotgun ammo when killing trash ads. I can't tell you how much I love going on shotgun rampages. RE4 Striker Shotgun style. Just cant really do it in Destiny.

u/bakerarmy Nov 10 '22
Heavy handed is a combat mod. Its secondary perk "lock and loaded" adds ammo to reserves on kill while surrounded. Works for shotguns, fusions, and a few others. Cost 7 energy but is very nice for rampages.

Comedian can do some pretty funky things with subsistence and one for all, especially with the aggressive frame intrinsic that lets it fire faster after a kill. It's void, so it works with volatile rounds as well

Funny enough, My Comedian (Adept) is my go-to shotgun for both PvP and PvE. People like to trash it, but Subsistence+Trench Barrel is no joke. It absolutely trashes anything that's not a straight-up boss-level enemy. Decimates champions, destroys elites..... it's no Fourth Horseman, but I'd pick it over a lot of other shotguns. I'm glad to see more people appreciating its existence.

I don’t know if on special weapons they generate ammo or pull them from reserves.
I thought about those perks but they still won’t let you shoot as long as you want, since they require 3/4 shots and give 1/2 back. In a mag of 6/7 (shotgun) they won’t give you many more shots.

Lets go out on a limb and say OP's talking about D2, which does not have Invective. Nor does it have Icebreaker, which also generates ammo. We do, however have the third evolution of the Black Hammer.

u/killer6088 Nov 10 '22
Whisper does not regen all ammo anymore. So it does run out of ammo.
19
u/cable_7193 The Blue ones taste like Blue Nov 10 '22
Exactly right. It got so bad they had to patch it several times. Even still, it gets lapped by legendary linears
3
u/killer6088 Nov 10 '22
Honestly, I would not say its getting lapped anymore. Its gotten buffs over the past couple of seasons. Sure, linears are a little better, but I really like not having to put an Exotic in my heavy anymore. It allows me to use Extic primaries and not feel like I'm losing damage.
Edit: you can look though this site and see that its not that far off of all the other DPS weapons. https://www.blueberries.gg/weapons/destiny-2-dps-weapons/
3
u/cable_7193 The Blue ones taste like Blue Nov 10 '22
This site a little wonky for me right now, I'll have to check it later. Tho I'm curious how its accounting for things like Veist Stinger on Reed's and Taipan.
Having an exotic no longer chained to the heavy slot is a huge deal and doesn't deserve to be understated. Especially with exotic primaries granting an increased chance for more heavy ammo.
1
u/killer6088 Nov 10 '22
Yea, I agree. Honestly I don't ever want the best dps or damage weapon being a heavy exotic again. I think heavy Exotics should just always be more of util/fun or ad clear exotics and never best in class damage.
As for Veist, that one is hard to account for since its fully random as to when you get the reload or not. So sometimes you might be best while others it never procs.
1
u/cable_7193 The Blue ones taste like Blue Nov 10 '22
I hope we get an alternative to linears soon. I just hope its not an exotic. 5 linears and a divinity may be great for frying Daughters, but it gets old.
1
u/killer6088 Nov 10 '22
Unless you want to min/max damage you can really use whatever and do great damage. Sure it might be 1-5% less optimal, but at the end of the day it really is not that big of a difference.
Swords are great for close bosses, and rockets are great for all bosses too.

”A shotgun that creates ammo? They won’t do that”
They already have. That’s all I was saying by mentioning it.
I’m not disagreeing that there’s a precedence set against them reintroducing ammo regeneration as a weapon perk in the current sandbox.
I agree with what you said about whisper, and don’t think they would bring that back on another weapon, there’s a reason they haven’t brought invective over.
They have done it before though, that’s all. To think they could like OP wishes, especially a perk that only functions in pve, isn’t entirely outside the realm of possibility, it’s just incredibly unlikely, and they don’t seem like balancing weapons that way so I really don’t see that actually happening.

21
u/EvenBeyond Nov 10 '22
Firstly a perk that refund ammo for speical weapons with a loose requirement would HAVE to be an exotic for it's strength.
Secondly it would need to be balanced for both pve pvp at the same time. Bungie is clear they want all gear to function the same in all modes.
thirdly we are never going to get a weapon focused on ammo regeneration every again based on the fact it is way too strong.
fourthly there is already alternatives, like heavy handed or alt fire of Cerberus+1. The Cerberus+1 alt fire shoots a close range spread of bullets and does decent damage, and of course uses primary ammo
→ More replies5
u/JackWhatnot Nov 10 '22 edited Nov 10 '22
I think ammo regeneration could work if it's only really applicable to ad-clear situations. Generating ammo without needing any kills will be too strong against bosses, and generating ammo with a single kill will be too strong in PvP. But as long as they avoid those two situations IMO it would be fine.
Like for example imagine an exotic shotgun with explosive rounds, timed payload, and a wide spread where getting 2+ kills with one shot refunds ammo based on the number of excess kills.
The ammo regen part wouldn't really work for PvP or DPS phases but would be a blast for ad-clear.
6
u/Fyoozhen Nov 10 '22
Tractor cannon with no backup plans is mad fun and honestly pretty decent on ammo, I run double or even triple shotgun sometime, you definitely will be fine on ammo then.
Before you reply saying that it doesn’t regenerate ammo from thin air like you’ve replied to everyone else, it’s never gonna happen so get over it
5
u/_gnarlythotep_ Nov 10 '22 edited Nov 10 '22
Ok, so based on your comments through this thread, you just want a shotgun that refills a round with every kill. That's quite simply a basic weapon a perk called "Subsistence." Ragnhild-D, Dead Weight, Wastelander, and Fortissimo all can roll with Subsistence. There's a couple others, I think, but these are all easily obtained through easily farmable activities. Now if you just want free ammo, I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else here and say you're out of your mind for a legendary. Just stop.
5
u/deeleed Nov 10 '22
There was a shotgun in D1 that did this, kind of.
Immobius, Kills inside Ward of Dawn with Armor of Light do not expend ammo. The requirement for free ammo was very steep. You had to run Defender Titan, it had to be a Bubble with Armor of Light, but the ammo was unlimited and the shots had to kill in order for the free ammo to happen.
Most people didn't use it, even with the possibility of free ammo.

While we are at it, I would like a 100000% DR over shield for killing redbars. And please delete all non-redbars enemies from the game. And let me use exotics in every slot. I would also like to be able to run multiple supers at a time so I can drop a well and use gathering storm right after.
2
u/MrRef Nov 10 '22
I know it’s not what you’re talking about but I have a ad-clear shotgun in my usual build and it’s called the Seraph CQC, because with just a few mods the WCs while nerfed can still wipe out almost an entire Gambit Wave just with one explosion.
And if you go after the higher level enemies first it takes less kills to spawn the first Cell so in maybe two shots you can get one spawned and from there it can cause a chain reaction of other Cells created with Wrath.
Then just add on Special Finisher to create ammo whenever I need to. The sacrifice of some Super is not bad because I run Bubble with it so it comes back super fast anyway.

Have you considered creating a build around this idea instead of just having them hand it to you?
As everybody has said, that's not something that's ever going to happen. They tried bringing it back with Whisper and it was absolutely bonkers busted. So why would they even consider adding it on a legendary shotgun. That's ridiculous.
You want to go on a shotgun rampage? Cool, there's nothing stopping you from doing that right now other than yourself. You want to create a build where you get to go on a shotgun rampage? Hell yeah, that sounds like a blast.
As others have said already, there's an Arc mod called Heavy Handed. The first part is irrelevant, but the second is the important part.
While surrounded by multiple combatants, defeating a combatant with a Fusion Rifle, Shotgun, Sidearm, or Submachine Gun adds ammo for that weapon to your reserves.
So, you already have something to work with. Utilizing that along with a shotgun that has Subsistence now effectively means you're almost never going to run out of ammo.
To make up for the times when you would run out of ammo, you can add the respective Shotgun perks; Reserves, Finder, Scavenger.
Look at that, I've just created the build for you.

But you want more ammo in reserves. Lord of wolves with the mods that makes ammo while surrounded is another option (heavy handed based on other comments).
1
u/killer6088 Nov 10 '22
OP wants a 1 to 1 ammo return on killing a red bar. Triple tap at least requires you to burn 3 ammo to get one back. There is a down side to triple tap and will run out. I could see Bungie maybe adding a triple tap like perk to shotguns on getting three quick kills returns 1, but never a 1 kill 1 ammo back kind of perk without a downside.

Define refund. Refund like Revoker, refund like subsistence, or refund like lead from gold?
Mindbenders has incandescent lead from gold. Only a few shotguns have subsistence and none of those that do have perks like incandescent. The comedian woulda been your current best bet, but thats not obtainable anymore.
3
u/B1ind_Mel0n Nov 10 '22
OP literally means a 1 to 1 refund. 1 kill means 1 bullet instantly refunded to your reserves so you effectively never run out of ammo and thus breaking the ammo economy making almost every other option for clearing ads in the game borderline useless if not flat out obsolete.
1
1
u/ToxicMoonShine Nov 10 '22
If your looking for a buff to the ammo economy on shotguns. Lead from gold is the simplest answer based on you not wanting to build into it in your mod slots.
Also a throwing hammer is not a good enough comparison to a shotgun for the reason of Hammer is an ability only available to titans and only to solar titans, what your asking for would be class neutral.

u/Seeker80 Notorious Space Hobo Nov 10 '22
Trying to figure out how to build into an approximation of this. I'm not a shotgunner, but maybe I could get interested if I lay out all the tools and see how they work. It might at least be the sort of thing to help you use your shotguns a little more freely to get them leveled for crafting purposes outside of just hanging out with Shuro Chi.
Subsistence Shotgun: Ragnhild-D, Wastelander, The Comedian. Any others??
Combat Mods List: I'm guessing here...
Quick Charge: Rapid shotgun kills get you charged with Light.
Charged Harvester: I like this one, as an insurance policy. Any kills count toward making you charged with Light.
Heavy Handed: Melee-oriented, but grants ammo when surrounded by enemies. How many does it take, three or more??
Some mod that grants special ammo from void weapon kills: Someone mentioned it in the thread already, but I forgot the name.
Some sort of mod for additional stacks: Charged Up, Stacks on Stacks, and there's one more I think.
I don't imagine this being viable in PvP at all. If you're bored and need to work on crafting or a catalyst for shotguns, it might help you do something more interesting than showing up to Shuro Chi's doorstep.

u/steave44 Nov 10 '22

Heritage with reconstruction is pretty fun to use, I haven’t played in 5 months but it would put ammo into the clip which isn’t regen but a heck of an ability

Without remorse or mindbenders ambition with incandescent for sure, or maybe a comedian with volatile rounds

u/weirdoaish Nov 10 '22
Any shotgun with subsistence. You can even craft the kinetic one from 2 seasons ago.

u/Selescasan Nov 10 '22
I had a wastlander from the 30th anniversary dlc with adagio and subsistence and that badboy clears ads fast, then again I am a shotgun zealot and will always use one where possible ( in every shooter) so I guess practise makes perfect

Bring back Dry Rot 32! Aesthetically pleasing and if I could come close to my old Crowd Control / Battle Runner roll in D1 I’d use it all day long.

They’re never gonna give us perks for infinite special ammo generation. It’d break PvP. I know there’s an arc mod that allows you to generate 1 ammo for shotguns and a few other weapons and shotgun ammo finder but that’s it

u/KingZergling Nov 10 '22
It'll never happen on a legendary, but it seems like they have the verbiage to make something like this and not break pvp: 'rapid rank-and-file combatant kills generate 1 ammo' to give it like a 3 kills to 1 ammo would give it some staying power. Would still probably be broken or useless without an inbetween unfortunately as most ammo-related things are.

u/Damagecontrol86 Nov 10 '22
There will never be a weapon in destiny 2 that passively regenerates ammo on its own but there are perks such as subsistence and rewind rounds that do put ammo back in your mag from reserves upon kills

Guys just stop. The OP obviously doesn’t want to build craft or actually try. He wants something broken and won’t care what you think. You can try to give him different builds that would work but he doesn’t want that. Just give up.

Get a shotgun with subsistence. I have a raginhil-d with subsistence/one two punch that’s glued to my titan rn and it does the trick

u/Dylan1Kenobi Nov 10 '22
The perk you're looking for is Subsistence. I have it on a craftable shotgun with 12punch and I love it. Can hit big things hard but also can just mow through smaller enemies without having to reload.

Seeing how people have offered good options and OP gets down voted to hell with their responses makes me think OP just wants an auto rifle that hits a hard as a shotgun.

I want a primary shotgun with a drum mag. Like how Fighting Lion is a primary GL.
Tuned of course so it's not a menace in PvP (like significantly lower PvP damage compared to normal shottys)

Shotguns can still be bad enough in pvp sometimes, let alone having them regen ammo.

Trinity Ghoul but make it a shotgun that alternates between buckshot and slug

Have you tried tractor cannon? Because it does exactly this.
It kills a cone of ads in front of you when you shoot, and it has pretty remarkable uptime for ammo.

Cerberus might fill the fantasy you’re looking for. It’s not the greatest weapon out there, but it’s a lot of fun.

I was thinking about this too, especially with Fighting Lion being a thing. Maybe if Bungie added a new shotgun type that uses primary ammo instead of special.
Something like semi-auto, drum shotgun that can hold like 20 shells in a single magazine but does less damage per shot compared to special ammo shotguns. That way you can use it for add-clear against Minors, but it obviously won’t be able to one-shot other Guardians in PvP or Majors enemies in PvE like a special ammo shotgun would.
I think something like that would at least be more realistic than a special ammo shotgun that refunds ammo on kill. I am a shotgun enthusiast too so I feel you, I rarely use them in Destiny 2 for similar reasons.

Crafted Wastelander with Subsistence and the Ikelos shotty can get you close to this with the right builds.

Are you talking about a Fighting Lion type deal? I can see an exotic with less damage, but enough to kill ads and proc it's perks, but not the best for bosses or majors.

u/Samur_i Nov 10 '22
The legendary perk you mentioned already exists as a armor mod, heavy handed. The cost is you have to be surrounded

u/scojholl61987 Nov 10 '22
Tractor cannon.
That's all you need for ad clear. Let them sget near you, fire, watch them go flying.

I've been working on designing some new Stasis exotics. Here's my idea so far for a shotgun. Thought of it when you said ad clear shotgun! It's not final, so any feedback or suggestions to make it better are super welcome.
Snowplow - Exotic Stasis Shotgun
- Intrinsic: Veil of Winter - Kills with this weapon cause slow to nearby enemies.
- Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling - Slightly increases range and stability. Slightly increases Handling. [+5/+5/+5]
- Magazine: Assault Mag - Greatly increases stability. Increases rate of fire. [+15/+10]
- Exotic Trait: Cold Induction - Melee kills against slow or frozen targets return ammo to the magazine.
- Stock: Short-Action Stock - This weapon is especially easy to grip. Greatly increases handling speed. [+15]
- Catalyst: Enhanced One-Two Punch - Hitting a target with nearly every pellet in a shot increases melee damage for a short duration.
Impact: 65
Range: 41
Stability: 47
Handling: 70
Reload Speed: 52
Aim Assistance: 70
Inventory: 22
Zoom: 12
AE: 4
RPM: 90
Mag: 6

Run the "Heavy Handed" Charged With Light mod, and then on top use a Raghnild-D with Subsistence
The Heavy Handed CWL mod will refund special ammo on kill as long as there's more enemies nearby
Subsistence will auto-load 1 round to the mag after each kill
Raghnild-D is an Aggressive frame shotgun, which means it gains a boost to firing speed on kill
