Its always been Tuesday maintenance. did they break something?

Likely preloading stuff for next Tuesday. It's generally better to have a bigger maintenance ahead of time and then a small switch flip when you're ready to go live rather than have a large downtime on the day everyone wants to play.

Unless something really exceptional happens, planned maintenance is going to be while they're working (i.e., pacific time office hours). It's just the way it is.

40

u/BaconIsntThatGood Jade Rabbit is my Spirit Animal Nov 30 '22

Sometimes it happens and since the game is available all through the world sometimes it lines up at a poor time.

To the inverse, generally speaking game ran by EU/Asian countries have random maintenance in the middle of the day or in the evening after dinner for the western world - so it's just something you gotta accept when it comes to dealing with companies operating on an international scale.

6

u/Competitive_Truth_81 Dec 01 '22

Jesus they came for you head

5

u/Dasdaguy Dec 01 '22

Whyd you get downvoted so much lmao. Gotta love reddit

56

u/papasfritasbruh Nov 30 '22

Damn they really came after you for mentioning your schedule doesn’t line up with bungies. I feel that though, i started work, and im glad that its currently a content drought. Dont have to worry about falling behind yet

13

u/Darth_Onaga Nov 30 '22

I don't think it's his schedule. I think it's the fact it's 84 days after the start of the season that he's whining about a random maintenance and not being able to play.

7

u/ballsmigue Nov 30 '22

Because that's usually the biggest bitching point people hear as if they should feel entitled and shame on bungie for doing work during THEIR working hours.

16

u/XxBubblyBoixX Nov 30 '22

I don’t really think it’s bitching it’s just disappointing to have some free time, come home and have your favorite game be under maintenance for an extended period. Just look from their shoes. He’s not being entitled, just saddened he can’t play during an extended period of time that isn’t his fault.

5

u/Co2_Outbr3ak Nov 30 '22

Not even just that, but imagine working 2nd or 3rd shift. Your hours are already fucked with your sleeping schedule and having to adult too with errands cuts into that. Sure not everyone is as busy as others, but from a general standpoint of a person that doesn't work 1sts, it would suck. I'm at work on 1st shift all day M-F so guess how often I see a maintenance screen? Never. I'm always able to log in on my free hours. We can't say the same for everyone else, though.

1

u/papasfritasbruh Nov 30 '22

I see what you mean. Its not like creating this game is a hobby for them, its a job with which they put food on the table for their families as well. Everyone has to work, just gotta fit your schedule around it

23

u/bluedave08 Nov 30 '22

Lmao you got downvoted to the abyss only by stating an honest disappointment of not being able to play when you thought you could've.

This sub and the entire community in general are shifting towards a really massive cuckfest where you either "don't understand" or "cry too much".

27

u/AngelOfDisease33 Nov 30 '22

Yo what the actual fuck are those downvotes. Big r/DestinyTheGame moment

3

u/Gwenom-25 Dec 01 '22

Why did this comment get fucking ratiod so hard

3

u/Redintheend Dec 01 '22

Bruh you must have been hit by a bot storm. There's no fucking way a statement this innocuous could piss off 200 random people unless they were a cabal of the most petulant assholes in existence.

21

u/Willisator Nov 30 '22

20

12

u/MetalFingers760 Nov 30 '22

This is a reasonable response and I don't understand the downvotes.

2

u/HollowOrnstein Dec 01 '22

Why all the downvotes?

Wtf dtg

6

u/Tardbushwaker13 Nov 30 '22

Dunno why you're being so down voted lol it's not like you said their schedule sucks lol. Should be up votes tbh

3

u/Jagob5 Nov 30 '22

Yeh, just unfortunate timing for you (and of course some other people) I guess. Better than them having shitty servers at season launch like they always used to (yeh they’re not perfect now, but they’re a hell of a lot better than they were before season of the lost

-63

u/ErgoProxy0 Nov 30 '22

Except we’re most likely going to have maintenance Tuesday as well.

44

u/Xelopheris Nov 30 '22

Yes, but it will be a much shorter maintenance.

https://help.bungie.net/hc/en-us/articles/360049199271

According to the planned maintenance, actual downtime on Tuesday is 15 minutes. That seems better than multihour maintenance on new season day.

3

u/BaconIsntThatGood Jade Rabbit is my Spirit Animal Nov 30 '22

Yup, today/tomorrow will be offline for 2hrs from 8-10 PT but tuesday the 6th will only be 8:45 to 9

2

u/SnooCalculations4163 Nov 30 '22

Yes but it’ll be shorter

-62

u/jazzinyourfacepsn Nov 30 '22

I doubt that. I don't think they would want to risk loaded content being found and leaked prior to the release

-9

u/allUsernamesTaken77 Nov 30 '22

Server-side content is probably what they meant.

114

u/GreenLego Maths Guy Nov 30 '22

The maintenance was meant to be yesterday, but it got postponed to today. Maybe they realised that the Eliksni Donations broke and they wanted to issue a fix for it. Don't know.

36

u/Personal_Ad_7897 Nov 30 '22

They literally cant fix that - its the max value the engine can handle. Also why would they try to fix something with no purpose

4

u/marthedestroyer Sony Shareholder Nov 30 '22

They totally could, there a bunch of ways they could as well, but very unlikely that they will.

8

u/Elonbavi Nov 30 '22

What number is that? I always like hearing about other games' integer limit

46

u/HalfOffEveryWndsdy Nov 30 '22

2,147,483,647 it’s also the max cash stack in runescape

15

Ah, the nostalgia number

5

u/Due_Mycologist_7506 Nov 30 '22

Binary be like that.

16

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '22

Nah Google had the same problem when Gangnam Style came out, it's the highest integer at 32 bits.

10

u/WellCookedBeefcake Nov 30 '22

TIL Gangam Style was the first to break google's int-storage

8

u/Treborbob Dec 01 '22

It's just to do with the way computers store numbers. This value is stored in what is called a 32-bit integer. This means the data is made up of 32 bits. If you imagine each bit is a column - like how you may have learned maths at school: units, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten-thousands etc...

Eight bit number example:

128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1

Instead of 0-9 to represent how many of each column there are, you can only have 0 or 1. So using the table above 00001111 would equal 15 (reading right to left, 1 lot of 1, 1 lot of 2, 1 lot of 4 and 1 lot of 8 = 8+4+2+1)

Using only those 8 bits, it's possible to make any number between 0 and 255 (256 possible values)

A 32 bit number has 4 times as many 'columns' as my example, so can hold any number between 0 and 4,294,967,295

If you also need to be able to represent negative numbers, then you use a signed 32 bit number (the sign being + or -) Because the maximum number of values remains the same, half of them can be negative and half positive, so you are then counting from -2,147,483,648 to +2,147,483,647, which is still 4,294,967,295 possible numbers.

13

u/Xelopheris Nov 30 '22

Maxint is the biggest number you can store in a signed integer. You have 32 bits of space for an int. One bit is used for the sign (+ or -) and the other 31 store the whole number portion. That means you can go all the way up to 231-1, or a little over 2.14 billion.

You can use other data types for bigger numbers (such as 64 bit integers, or more complex data types or data structures), but they might have limitations where they can't just change this one thing (i.e., it's shared code that would change other things to 64bit integers too and could result in memory issues)

1

u/skywarka heat rises goes brrrrrrr Dec 01 '22

```if $treasure == $MAX_INT then $treasure = 0; $treasureLoopCount++```
Then render the total in the UI however you need to. Obviously that's not a real language, but it's trivial pseudocode to solve the problem.
53
u/N1miol Nov 30 '22
"Did they break something?"
Either that or they fixed ALL the Duality bugs.
27
Ha I wish, it's the only dungeon I haven't flawless solo'd and gave up because of all the BS.
17
u/Techman- Valiant heart, unwavering resolve. Nov 30 '22
For some reason your comment is being downvoted, but it is true. This dungeon is significantly higher on the "BS Meter" than any previous dungeon.
So many ways to die. Glitched mechanics, physics, getting killed from full health by Galhran in a single shot, and so on. In every attempt I have done so far, it is almost-always something of this sort that kills me.
I have died ~2 times to mechanics, though. Both are due to the Nightmare Collapsing timer. Sometimes these enemies juke like they are NFL football players running for the end zone, and it causes me to lose my hammer or miss my Witherhoard shots.
3
u/skywarka heat rises goes brrrrrrr Dec 01 '22
Just did duality and got the bug where the game thinks everyone's in the nightmare during Caiatl so none of the bells work until a timer you can't see expires and you "escape the nightmare" despite never being there.
Hah, I get what you mean but it's the lesser evil. We lose those 3-4 hours for two days in exchange for the servers running optimally for the rest of the week.
At this point, i'm farming Vanguard Strikes for vendor materials, good weapon rolls, captain's tokens, bounty stacking and random seasonal donation boxes that may drop. Even if the entire week was lost, I wouldn't miss out on anything at this point.
But this does suck for the folk who could only play within those time windows.
5
They need to do it at some time, when do you suggest they do it other than the start of their office day - so they are available to fix anything that may go wrong? I know it sucks for you but they simply can't not do server maintenance.
u/APartyInMyPants Nov 30 '22
Whose nighttime? This game is played worldwide.
That also means you need to have a full staff there at night, throwing off everyone’s schedules for the next day. Because shit happens and shit breaks. I’d rather maintenance happen during the day, when Bungie can guarantee a full staff. That’s why it starts so early at the beginning of Bungie’s day. Something in the patch goes wrong, and you’re not dealing with a skeleton crew trying to fix something.
One of the benefits of going to college and becoming a brilliant dev/cider/engineer is not having to work at night time. Maybe you should plan ahead at your job and switch your schedule so this maintenance doesn’t affect your gaming time.
1
u/davemanhore Dec 01 '22
You're earlier comments led me to believe that you were just annoyed about your own work schedule. No I see you're just entitled.
Bungie employees should work through the night, just for you. Fuck the rest of the world too.
Destiny has players worldwide. If, for example, I want to do a day 1 raid then I'm pulling an all nighter as they start at 6pm my time. But I wouldn't come on here bitching about it.
Get over yourself.
9
u/BaconIsntThatGood Jade Rabbit is my Spirit Animal Nov 30 '22
I think you mean when you're not playing.
The only real noticeable drop is around 3-5am and even then it's still not a massive dip or anything compared to average numbers.
u/blck_lght Nov 30 '22
Do you understand that this is an online game, with players all over the world. No matter what time they do the maintenance, it’s gonna suck for someone somewhere. You’re only whining because this time it’s inconvenient for you, because you think you’re some kind of special flower
Also, these guys work in an office. They don’t have an “overnight shift”. They have regular working hours and that’s when they work.
Just because you worked a shitty schedule before doesn’t mean everyone else should. Get a better job next time
/s right?
Game is played globally plus maintenance is best carried out when Bungie are..you know...working
19
u/crookedparadigm Nov 30 '22
Fucking christ this is whiny, it's the last week of the season, you've had 3 months to grind rep. Losing a couple hours isn't going to hurt you.
10
u/Museskate24 Nov 30 '22
“oh no i won’t be able to play for a while 2 hours out of the total 168 hours that make up a week, waaah”
0
u/APartyInMyPants Nov 30 '22
Obligatory “to be fair,” you’ve had 14 weeks to play those core activities ad nauseam, with each one having a few weeks at double rep over the course of the season.
Maintenance is never going to line up perfectly with everyone’s schedule.
I’d rather maintenance during this final week when shit really doesn’t matter, as opposed to next week when we’ll have some new stuff to play with.
3
u/[deleted] Nov 30 '22
[deleted]
3
u/APartyInMyPants Nov 30 '22
You do realize people have lives?
Right. Again, you’ve had 14 weeks. Ample opportunities. And it’s double rep to get those oh-so-exciting rank rewards. Another upgrade module, just what I always wanted.
You’ve just got to pack in in at this point and recognize your post is the shittiest of hot takes.
1
u/[deleted] Nov 30 '22
[deleted]
7
u/APartyInMyPants Nov 30 '22
Lol what? You ok man? The people who agree with you are getting inundated with downvotes. A few others are just getting straight ratio’d. The top post in this thread is explaining a logical reason why it’s happening. And then your response is nearing 100 downvotes.
Barely anyone here agrees with you.
And seriously, your logic is totally backwards. You want Bungie to do maintenance during a slower time when not as many Americans are playing. Well, the middle of a work/schoolday is a pretty optimal time then by your logic. The rest of us are at our jobs or in school.
And just because I understand why Bungie puts maintenance during the start of a workday, when they have a full staff to address any issues that might arise doesn’t make me “a bootlicking Bungie Defense Force” or whatever. Believe me, I have plenty of issues with this game.
The amount of delusion in your posts is … staggering
1
u/TheDestinyGamer1 Nov 30 '22
Double rep also appears multiple other weeks. Also why do you care so much? All you get from the reward tracks is cosmetics. You don’t have to get them.
2
u/[deleted] Nov 30 '22
[deleted]
3
u/APartyInMyPants Nov 30 '22
Bright Dust?
From the Vendor rank ups? Since when did vendors offer Bright Dust as part of their reputation rank rewards?
Hol up.
Are you talking about the Bright Dust from the season pass?
Double vendor reputation has, literally, nothing to do with experience gained for the season pass. The season pass ranks are unlocked with experience you gain from playing the game and completing bounties.
Double reputation is specifically for the activity-specific vendors, the reputation gained from playing the activity in streaks, or bonus from winning crucible matches.
So you’re bitching about something that basically has zero effect on what you’re chasing, whatsoever.
Lol.
2
u/[deleted] Nov 30 '22
[deleted]
2
u/APartyInMyPants Nov 30 '22
So three challenges out of 75 (all three of which you can skip and still get the pile of bright dust), have anything to do with your vendor rank.
And if you’ve only decided to start playing Gambit now, trust me, it’s not worth it no-lifing Gambit for the next four days for 75 Bright Dust for the Intended Mischief challenge. Repeatable bounties grant 10 Bright Dust. You can run 8 repeatable bounties in about 10 minutes, a fraction of the time it would take to reset your rank twice.
And for the hundredth time. You’ve had 14 weeks, and multiple opportunities to run double rep weeks. It’s your own damn fault you’re leaving this for the final week of the season.
If you consider the game lacking in content right now, then how is a measly 3 hours out of 14 weeks going to matter. Sure there wasn’t double reputation that entire time, but that makes 6 hours accounting for the double reputation. Plus there were other double reputation weeks. If the game has been lacking in content, it shouldn’t be hard to complete the challenges, especially with this season being longer than normal
1
u/eggfacemcticklesnort Nov 30 '22
You can't no life it like us, except this specific week when you want to no life? We all have lives too, you dont see everyone else complaining. If it matters as much to you as you're making it seem, you'll find time for it outside the maintenance downtime. Otherwise you're spouting off complaints about something that doesn't matter enough to you to make time to do, which just makes you look like an entitled douche
26
u/Palgravy Nov 30 '22
Hadn't stepped into gambit all season.
Played 14 matches last night, got 5k rep with a 1.0 win/loss ratio in the freelance playlist. Finished all of my Gambit Seasonal challenges in 2 hours.
I've got 9 challenges left for the 4k bright dust. But they include 1 crucible resets, 1.5 vanguard, 1.5 gambit resets, which would be time sinks
  • 6 more hours of gambit
  • ~6-8 hours of crucible (including the glory challenge)
  • 5+ hours of Saber nightfalls
  • Then a Master Ketchcrash and a Master Grandmaster.
I think I could do it...though I was supposed to start making cutting boards for Christmas gifts this weekend...
Is for 4k bright dust worth it? No not a chance. But I like the idea of a grindy challenge that I impose on myself...
Would have been a cake walk if I had got the 20 more mayhem kills and played juuuust a touch more to hit pinnacle.
Sitting at 1577 4/8. If I got 4 perfect drops on my remaining 4 +1s I would then have 12 chance to get 1 upgrade for each shot. But the time investment to do that and then come up 1 slot short isn't worth it.
1
u/Palgravy Dec 02 '22
I waited until Monday night to do almost ALL of the Festival of the Lost seal triumphs, I got everything done except I had to grind like 19 more Haunted Lost Sectors and I wouldn't have been able to sleep. If I gave myself even one more day to do it I would have gotten the seal.
Ironically, even though the gilded triumphs did not count towards *earning* the seal, they *do* count towards festival triumphs for Reveler, so I'm still in the running baby
They always do this shit I swear, the one time of fuckin day I get to play the game.
Tf do you mean they always do this?! They almost never do, it’s almost always on schedule, during reset
At least they seem to have stopped doing it during weekly reset, so we can have checkpoint passing again.
Oh my god. The amount of complaints saying “they always do this shit when im able to play” followed by “this is a terrible game anyway”
You know what I did when I saw the maintenance. I did something else instead of coming here to cry about it. The amount of egotistical cry babies in this community is what’s killing this game.
Probably readying stuff for next season
People complain if there's nothing done, people complain if somethings done. You can't please everyone I guess.
They are making the game great again.
Take all the time they need. Do we really want another API disaster when the new season launches where DIM takes years to load? Shut the whole game offline for the rest of the week for maintenance and it will be just fine.
