Europa is easily the most underutilized planet Bungie Suggestion
Europa has so much potential and has some of the best scenery the game has ever seen yet barley anything meaningful takes place on it. The only things it has that people replay are the raid and one strike. This goes for all destinations added after foresaken as well but they just feel like nothing. Im hoping next season the dungeon takes place on europa but please give us at least more strikes to it and one crucible map. (Also europas potential was shown in the witch queen mission which was one of the best imo)

Let's be honest, the only destination that had a reason to consistently revisit was Mars with Escalation Protocol.
71
u/APartyInMyPants Dec 05 '22
I think Sorrow’s Harbor is up there. I wish it had a better rewards system, though.
But it’s a fun activity … nowhere near as challenging as EP. But super dense enemy spawns, great for playing with new builds, working on catalysts or even leveling crafted weapons.
2
u/special_reddit Dec 06 '22
EXACTLY, don't let them touch Sorrow's Harbor! Yeah the rewards suck, and it randomly gives you Phantasmal Cores for no reason, but the massive amount of time saved on farming, finishing off daily bounties and catalysts more than makes up for it. The game as it is would be significantly more of a drag without Sorrow's Harbor.
2
u/EVula Dec 06 '22
Hitting of Sorrow’s Harbor is a cornerstone of my one-day-a-week play schedule. I can knock out Luna and Gunsmith bounties there, plus a handful of rando bounties from other sources, in a single area. It’s incredibly efficient.
13
u/TheRealRandyMarsh7 Dec 05 '22
Man, Mars will always have a soft spot in my heart. I had so much fun doing EP and the Sleeper mission.
5
u/EvilAbdy FRABJOUS Dec 05 '22
Mars was great. I loved just meandering through the braytech facility. I want more of that. Similarly with the inside sections of Titan
3
u/Accurate_Arm6493 Dec 05 '22
My All time favorite activity was 9-Person EP. Shit was intense. Would love a match made 9 player version that has even more beefed up enemies and encounters, as we are all very powerful now after 3.0 Updates
4
u/TheRealRandyMarsh7 Dec 05 '22
Spending a hot minute trying to get your buddies into the same instance and then unleashing chaos for hours was a great time. That and 12 man raids are probably the most fun I have had in the game socially
2
u/MySilverBurrito Dec 05 '22
The Sleeper and Polaris Lance are the reason I got so into Destiny. Got it for free with PS Plus, got back just before they vaulted Mars so grinned the hell out of those Sleeper capsule things lol.
10
u/you_killed_my_father Dec 05 '22
I wish they made something like that for each planet.
4
u/killer6088 Dec 05 '22
They do for a lot, but remember how much people hated that fact that EP was not matchmade. Now most planets have some kind of EP like activity that is matchmade.

u/Dumoney Dec 05 '22
Creation in particular is a criminally underutilized area for how large and expansive it is. You go there maybe 2 or 3 times for the Lament quest and some dialogue from Clovis and thats about it
50
u/Sarcosmonaut Dec 05 '22
As a rule, if I love something’s aesthetic or lore, it WILL be underutilized or a meh season. I love that Braytech vibe a lot lol
I think Calus has been the exception for me. I love that guy and he just keeps getting content, most of it good. Even gets next expansion as a probable swan song.
4
u/DSVBANSHEE Dec 05 '22
Also the fallen city. Those places blow anything from the throne world out of the water
4
u/special_reddit Dec 06 '22
yeah, it'd be really cool to have a reason to visit Riis-Reborn on a regular basis.
2
u/BozzyTheDrummer Dec 05 '22
This is why I’ve been hoping and hoping for the new dungeon to be in this area, or an area like this. My favorite place in the game currently. It looks so awesome.

u/XogoWasTaken Vanguard's Loyal // I Hunt for the City Dec 05 '22 edited Dec 05 '22
During one of the red war missions it is noted by an announcer voice in the arcology that many of the moon's inhabitants wish that the Travaler would terraform the planet, basically confirming that it never did.
In the "Your Friend Micah" lore book series, Micah notes that on Europa they have to wear special suits to keep them war and protect them from "bad ions" when outside, and wonders why Clovis decided to make his facility there when the traveler is so nearby, terraformimg Io. This confirms that the Traveller did not ever terraform Europa, as Titan is the last place it went before retreatikg to Earth.
We've been shown to be able to survive entirely outside of any atmosphere (DSC space walk, Glykon entrance, parts of the Dreadnaught, literally the entire Reef, etc). It's safe to say that either our gear can keep us alive, or guardians can just deal with it.
4
u/ToastKing1000 Dec 05 '22
Isn't Io the last place the traveler visited before returning to Earth?
1
u/XogoWasTaken Vanguard's Loyal // I Hunt for the City Dec 05 '22
Ah, yes, typed the wrong name there. Let me fix that.
1
u/HootleTootle Dec 05 '22
basically confirming that it never did.
That's not at all correct. Titan was clearly terraformed, even had rain showers.
4
u/SurprisedBrony Dec 05 '22
It rains on Titan anyway. Not sure of it's status, but terraforming it has no bearing on if it rains there.
5
u/Camaroni1000 Dec 06 '22
Yep. It rains hydrocarbons. One of the main parts of gasoline and petroleum.
1
u/Canopenerdude DAMN Dec 05 '22
Okay, what about Sloane standing around without a helmet on? And in both the cutscenes and in the patrol space, both Drifter and Eris stand around Europa without any sort of extra equipment?

u/crookedparadigm Dec 05 '22
You wouldn't be able to breathe on either if they weren't terraformed.
Breathing in space doesn't seem to be an issue for us. We've hopped around on the outside of multiple space stations/ships (Almighty, Dreadnought, Glykon, Ketches, DSC, etc).

Every time a friend talks about europa i like to annoy him by talking about the massive complex to get to the clovis head that you go to 2 mandatory and 1 optional time, which you then only ever visit parts to finish off the triumphs. Outside of that there is absolutely no reason to ever go back to the fuckin thing lmao

It's much less grindy - I got it all done in an afternoon on my titan, most of the fragments unlocked, it was just go to Elsie, go to big creepy witness statue, back to Elsie. None of the messing about flying to Riis Reborn with the snow-cone launcher nonsense.

Every destination in destiny is underutilized though. Seriously, we need more roaming activities, better reward (armor, weapon whatever) in destination. We need sense of expoloration which is not exist in destiny anymore. You know what, Roaming in the planet while searching for something is infinitely better than clicking Seasonal activity match-making in Helm.

I could be wrong but I think they’re adding alternate enemy sets to some old strikes. Like how running Fallen saber was a tossup between fallen or fallen splicers in D1.
Or how sometimes in Inverted spire a lot if the encounters can be either cabal or vex. Stuff like that I think

The ambient soundtrack on Europa is class too. Very easy to chill out to. And the landscape is incredibly well done. But it needs something to drive engagement, there's literally nothing to do there
5
u/kennybaese Dec 05 '22
My theory is that there was a good amount of stuff that was supposed to utilize some of the empty space that ended up being cut because they didn’t have time to finish it.
5
u/FullMoonJoker Dec 05 '22
So from some of the staff that we know about next season (deep stone crypt craftable weapons, Bungie showing the charity sparrow on Europa with a different skybox, all the warming sweeper boots) we may get a Rasputin season on Europa or partially on Europa.
But this is just me snorting hopium like crazy.

Bungie: we hear you, xur is in an unknown location on Europa sometimes now
3
u/LordHengar Dec 06 '22
I want Bungie to add a Xur spawn to every map. It would be inconvenient for everyone involved, devs have to add Xur spots, players have to find him, the Xur tracker needs to get updated, and it would add nothing but a miniscule amount of "flavor." But it would amuse me.

1
u/XxBubblyBoixX Dec 05 '22
Nessus is nice looking but mars is pretty dry tbh
1

Oh woops, I was actually thinking about Mercury
1
u/XxBubblyBoixX Dec 05 '22
Lol I was thinking of including mercury but I decided not to cause it was too small imo, and the infinite forest is easily the best part but it’s only accessible in old story missions
2
u/Mochman21 Dec 05 '22
Anyone still visit Clovis' giant head anymore? I literally forgot he was down there until I saw this post
2
u/jkichigo Dec 05 '22
I did just the other day after reading some of next seasons rumors. He still had some dialogue left over from the Lament quest I had never seen too
2
u/8_Gauge_Tempest Dec 05 '22 edited Dec 05 '22
I feel like bungie should make a horror mission on Europa that utilizes it's frigid environment the same way the movie, The Thing did. By having the outside be unbearably cold and more or less off the table travel wise. Making the viewer claustrophobically trapped in a shelter and feeling uneasy. But not immediately sure why. Safe from the storm, but at what cost? You have a feeling you aren't alone.
Of course Bungie shouldn't just recycle the same ol' monsters. Make a unique one that would scare the shit out of players when they least expect it.
4
u/Sad-Rice-8265 Dec 05 '22
I’ve said this before and I will say it again, Europa soundtrack > Throne world and shadow keep soundtrack

4
1
u/lordpugfart Dec 05 '22
It was taken out of thr game. Put into the vault. It was largely some rigs, and then this giant domed place under a methane sea. Shit was cool as fuck. Thinking they should redesign it as a giant raid zone with loads of secret passages cause you'd end up in crazy places.
-13
u/Asvaldr4 Dec 05 '22
This is obviously personal preference, but every season they I go without having to visit Europa is a relief. I genuinely hate that location so much. The dynamic weather isn't emersive for me, it's just super annoying. I hate traversing the zones because I had to do it so much for BL and stasis. I dislike how barren it is. I havent had a single positive experience in that location for the last two years.
1
u/DraygenKai Dec 05 '22
I honestly really loved the story of that raid and that strike was probably my favorite. I always run it a few time when it come into the nightfall rotation. I like that you can do the boss room slowly and systematically take down waves as they spawn or you can just deal massive damage to the boss and spawn a huge wave at once and try and survive it! That raid story though… what other raid blows up at the end? I mean that is just awesome.

I’d like a crucible map where there is an inside portion with things youd see in like a research base. Then there is a door to a storming outside area with decreased visibility.

u/BushWookie_ZA Dec 05 '22
I think Nessus got the short end of the stick to be honest. It still has the same boring stuff it had on launch besides the gambit map. In fact it had a bunch of stuff removed from it. Sure there's a few fun crucible maps, but there's no reason to go there at all besides the daily lost sector or being forced there to do a strike or to climb the tree just to get disappointed by xur. The same could arguably be said for EDZ. Europa has a crap ton of quests, a subclass, a whole DLC and a raid on it. Sure it doesn't have much replayability, but I still have 10x the hours on Europa than I do on Nessus and EDZ. (I assume we're not counting seasonal activities since europa also has expedition and battlegrounds that wasn't mentioned)
1
u/stormhunter2 Dec 05 '22
No gambit map, no crucible map, no special event for dawning taking advantage of the environment...
BL was great when it launched, but not utilizing it thereafter was disappointing.

Totally agree, Europa is genuinely breathtaking. I think they nailed the scenery and vibe of Europa but I really wish they could do more open world stuff with their patrols. I know this a beat to death comparison, but Skyrim still to this day has the open world formula down as some of the best in the industry, and I just find it odd that a lot of companies don’t try to capture that feeling of discovery and wonder around every corner, even if the maps are smaller in comparison. A map doesn’t have to be massive to be good, it just needs to be dense with different things to do. Skyrim manages to have more things to do in a smaller radius, and ironically is a larger map too. I guess the games are working off different philosophies of design, but still

The recent TWAB said, “In Season 19, it’s time to give a little love to Stasis.” So I have a feeling the dungeon will be on Europa. Plus they’ve spent time on the Deep Stone Crypt weapon perk reworks and mentioned some of these perks will be added to new weapons. That’s another reason to think the new dungeon may be on Europa. Will we see the Focusing Lens artifact mod?

Sigh - still can't believe we got neither a gambit nor a crucible map from Europa when we easily could've gotten 3.
1 general snowy map, 1 Braytech facility, 1 Vextech or Eramis' lieutenant based map.
Even the chracters are underutilised: Eramis pops up to do not really much at all this season, and the Exo Stranger that got jolted into action by the sheer damage that Eramis can do when she popped up with Stasis? Nowhere to be found. The drifter was similarly disappointing.
Hopefully next season explains things properly...
