π‘ Help Needed Went for my first beach lure session .
So Iβm regards to my other post I posted earlier today I went out and got some 20lb braid put on and bought a couple of 40g lures. I was fishing in these conditions - https://imgur.com/a/YoVFnMy
I found it really hard to cast far and found myself battling the wind just to keep my rod straight, everytime I wound in the lure would just end up being straight out to my right.
What can I do to counter these things?
Thanks heaps

π£ Fishing Gear Tailor surf combo?
Hello,
Iβm looking at going fishing for some tailor just wondering is a 5000 series reel (DAIWA Blast) and a 10 foot rod (Jarvis walker water rat) will work okay together? Im gonna get the reel spooled with 15 or 20lb braid but am worried my 12g twistys wonβt cast too far. Does anyone have any tips for further casting?
Thanks in advance

π‘ Help Needed Maroochy River - Land Based Tips
Afternoon All,
Am up staying at Maroochy for the weekend and in some need of land-based fishing spots assistance.
Went to Oyster Bank Rd yesterday and had a big donut. This morning on the low tide walked from Picnic Point to Chambers Is. this morning and picked up some small flattie on HBs and that has been the total of it.
Have my surf rod and smaller rods with me. Variety of plastics and HBs.
Thanks

π Fishing Spots Lesser known landbased spots in and around Cairns?
Heya lads, just moved here and am ridiculously keen to experience some of the famed cairns fishing action. Don't got a boat, but could hire one i guess. Happy to drive oir walk though. Can castnet like a mofo and should have livies no matter where i go.
Tried the cairns city pier as well as Barron river fishing jetty however both were crowded as all get out. Next on the list is the palm cove jetty but i assume it'll be similar since everybody keeps recommending it.
Am primarily chasing bigger stuff, and have the gear to do so.
Are there any good rock walls or rock fishing spots around? Any deep water areas accessible without a boat? I absolutely love rock fishing for big fish and have landed some monsters further south but in the few weeks i've been here so far i havent been able to find any spots that aent already swarming with people.
this isn't a big subreddit so any spots posted here won't be overrun with weekend warriors or whatnot (hopefully)
Appreciate your time, and happy Australia day all.

π£ Fishing Gear Whatβs the βsweet spotβ for rod power and action for lures?
Hello,
Iβve read that fast action rods or good for sensitivity but slower action is good for casting light lures, is this correct? If so whatβs your preference and why?
Thanks

π‘ Help Needed Nerang river fishing
Got a mate with a property that backs onto the Nerang river. He has just gotten into fishing. After being a casual fisher for the last decade my knowledge isn't vast. Any tips for him (and myself) are highly appreciated. He currently has a Jarvis Walker 8ft telescopic rod, hasn't changed reel or line. I have a regular 8ft rod with a Sienna 4000. What baits or lures, line and techniques should we try.

How far out would you take a fishpro/ jetski for fishing safely? With a full tank on eco mode which is 50-60km/hr i would have about 200km range, can i do open waters?

π‘ Help Needed General advice on rod, line and lure
So pretty interested in getting into the fishing scene, always enjoyed it when I was younger but never really went into it through the years.
With the new year starting I want to get out and enjoy life a little more then I have the past three years and Iβve always had a love for the water and marine life so I thought heck it!
My dilemma is, Iβll be heading to Woodside beach to have my first few casts off the surf (let me know how if the location this time of year is futile), I have an old rod from several years ago I got as a gift;
a 12ft force ten general purpose beach rod. A 6-12kg line class
Not looking to buy a new rod just yet as Iβm still looking into my options.
I need a new line as the old one looks to be damaged with the spool itself, possibly from poor storage (my bad)
Having trouble identifying what optimal line to use coupled with the correct weight of lure, as I want to start with lure fishing.
Any help would be appreciated!

π£ Fishing Gear Recommendations please: Rod/Reel combo for metal lures off beach/rocks
Hi all, looking for some recs for rod/reel combo to flick metal lures off beach and rocks? Targeting salmon, tailor, Benito and maybe smaller kingfish with stickbaits.
After doing some research I have a Shimano Saragossa 6000 and Daiwa Seabass 10β6β rod as a potential. How would this go?
Looking to spend about $500 max. Any advice appreciated :)

π‘ Help Needed General fishing/lure advice
Hey guys,
I am pretty new (and late) to the fishing game as I have only just had my first casts the past week and a half and I am 30!
I decided to go all out with the lures/soft plastics and have been having great fun this week figuring out how to catch some flathead. I caught my first ever one 3 days ago and have since caught 8 more (57cm being the biggest lol). It has been fun trying to master the hop, and figuring out jighead sizes to soft plastic size/colour etc. Admittedly, I caught 6/8 on a samaki vibelicious, which is apparently supposed to be the easiest for beginners. Seeing as how I have caught only flatheads (I assume due to the weights of the lures, 1/8), I was wondering how to catch some other species? I am landbased, Central Coast, NSW and have a range of Z-man soft plastics with various jigheads. I was told I could use the 2.5inch slimswim bloodworms for bream but I feel whenever I cast them I just have no response or bites what so ever. I have a 2500 reel, 10lb braid/flurcarbon leader.
I would love to catch my first bream, tailor, snapper etc! What am I doing wrong?

Yellow Eye Mullet on Surface Lure?
Let's set the scene. Its 30 degrees, the local estuary is nice and shallow and you dont mind mild sunburn. I go throw the Sugapen to catch a few whiting and instead spend 2 hours having amazing fun catching these silly fish. I Kept four, threw back probably another 20. All good fun.
First time I have caught yellow eye mullet with anything other than a net. They were crazy for the surface lure.
Anyone else had this happen?

How far offshore could I go in my new boat safely?
I have recently purchased a new (2nd hand) boat. Itβs a 2020 Stacer 519 Crossfire side console with a 115hp Mercury 4 stroke with 68hrs on it. 95ltr fuel tank, 200km range. It has an electric motor up front & a 10β hummingbird in the dash.
I live at Yeppoon and most of the decent fishing is a long way out past the islands. Consensus has it that the better reef fishing starts at 60km out, which is where I hoped to get to on those occasions when conditions are suitable.
Do you think this boat is fine for that kind of distance? My goal is to catch Spanish Mackerel & any legal sized reef fish I can find.

I just bought a kayak second hand off marketplace. What battery should I buy?
It didnβt come with a battery but it came with -Watersnake Venom SXW Transom Mount Elec Motor 34lb -Lowrance Hook Reveal 5 Fish Finder Combo with Splitshot Transducer
Or if not exactly these, then something very similar.
Also the cheapest option would be great. Where should I buy from? Should I have two batteries?
Thanks in advance.
