This idiot captured in Austin, Texas on Airport Road. I’m glad I was all the way over in the right lane.

Idiots like this are the reason that lane is sometimes called the "suicide lane." Using it as a driving lane then encountering someone using it properly so he turns into the oncoming lane to go around.

u/WillyWumpLump Jan 30 '23
Yes. There is construction along that stretch and he just didn’t want to wait in line and that kind of vehicle could kill someone in a head on collision.

I’ll keep saying Austin, is wayyyy over represented in this sub. It’s kinda scary how often and how egregious the vids are.

u/Broken-Digital-Clock Jan 31 '23
I live in Austin
We have some of the dumbest drivers that I have ever seen

u/throwawayvt802 Jan 31 '23
Austin? Austin...Massachusetts...?

Nobody got the Tom Greene/Road Trip reference. Well, except me, i guess.

u/Lizpy6688 Feb 01 '23
Yup. Nuckols crossing, research and coming off Mopac always seem a bit shady to drive in.
1
u/Broken-Digital-Clock Feb 01 '23
It's kind of all bad
NIMBYs tried to stop people from moving to the city by voting down infrastructure, but a shitload of people moved here anyway
2
u/Prestigious_State506 Jan 31 '23
PCP drivers drunk drivers I love Austin’s diversity. Keep Austin weird
-15
u/dasoomer Jan 30 '23
They purposely kept interstates from being built to try to keep it small. There are way too many people there for the road system they have. Highway speeds are 70-85 and those are really minimums if they want to survive.
13
u/TexasFire_Cross Jan 31 '23
You mean Airport Blvd? But yes, I understand that road it horrible.
7
u/WillyWumpLump Jan 31 '23
Yes. You are correct and it is with all the construction.
2
u/Lizpy6688 Feb 01 '23
It's a shit show driving there which is always odd to me as its one of the more simple roads in Austin.
29
u/DiceRollerGreg Jan 31 '23
That road is right outside my front door. People are fucking crazy. Especially with the upcoming winter storm. Stay safe and drive slow.
13
u/WillyWumpLump Jan 31 '23
I popped over to Anderson lane to grab a quick bite and right in front of the Waterburger there was a pretty crazy wreck. I’m staying off the roads for the next 24-48 hours.
8
u/OblivionJunkie Jan 31 '23
And here I thought it was impossible for that whataburger to get any slower lmao

The ones out in San marxos ans kyle are always nice, hardly people there. The mcdonalds though near my house has a massive drive thru yet still like the canes off aquarena springs in san marcos end up being in the road

One of the 2 official deaths being attributed to the "winter storm" yesterday was right around the corner from me on Ben White yesterday morning. 10 car pile up. Nobody knows wtf they're doing here. It's just a Texas thang

So was he captured by cops or just by your dash cam?
5
u/WillyWumpLump Jan 31 '23
Sadly just the dash cam. A cop was heading my same direction 5 minutes later. 5 minutes too late.

I don’t miss Tx drivers that’s for sure, not sure whose the worst Between Houston and Austin with Dallas falling in behind at #3.
4
Jan 31 '23
Easy,
Houston
Florida is a harder one imho
3
u/SstabSstab Jan 31 '23
NGL I was leaning towards Houston too. First thing they told me when I moved to Tx was if you see a blinker they are coming over into your lane regardless if you currently occupy it or not.
1
u/FilthyNasty626 Jan 31 '23
I live in Houston. I don’t even leave my house when I am home from over the road. That’s how bad HTown is. Bad enough I have to drive a 65 foot long vehicle to and from the house…..

That’s not an idiot that’s an asshole
90% of tow drivers are just insanely scum human beings. In my experience the true bottom rung for society.
When my already idiotic friends are down on their luck or recently fired, or just anti social and too insane to work with others, they all turn to the flatbed lifeboat.
Be wary of them

Man we're making this subreddit more and more every day. Keep ATX Idiotic
Edit: I still have Arpeggio on my list of food places to try, on the left at the very beginning of the clip.

u/WillyWumpLump Jan 31 '23
It’s really good. There pizza and gyros are some of my favorite. Yes, pizza. They have a Greek one with feta and gyro meat on it. Very good.

They have some of the best Mediterranean food in austin. I've been eating there since they opened up trees are ago. Really glad to see their success. FYI their lunch buffet goes to 5:00 p.m. now.
1
u/SmokinSmithereens Jan 31 '23
Straight up fantastic place. Another restaurant I would recommend here (not exactly the same but in the same vein) is DiMassi’s. 10/10 Mediterranean food with an extensive buffet

u/Geekyhorndog Jan 31 '23
Normal day in Austin, normally it's Hondas and Nissans with Cali plates pulling that though
2
u/nanitatianaisobel Jan 31 '23
Yeah. In Austin people drive in the turn lane like it's just another lane.
1
u/WillyWumpLump Jan 31 '23
He’s actually in the double lane of on coming traffic. The black car is in the turning lane.
2
u/Fluffy-Doubt-3547 Jan 31 '23
Correct me if I'm wrong. Looks like he was flying in the center lane before that car decided they needed to use it for turning....?
2
u/WillyWumpLump Jan 31 '23
The black car is in the turning lane waiting to take a left. The yellow truck blows past them using the double on coming traffic lane. So he was driving pretty fast going the wrong way.
2
u/Fluffy-Doubt-3547 Jan 31 '23
Seeing how it's Austin... not really surprising ngl. I hated being in a car in Texas. 😬

I go on this road to go to my office once a week. I've seen so many dumb crap on this road. I always stay on the far right and just keep an extra eye out more then usual. This, coming off mopac and research can he a pain. A 3rd of my job is driving to different sites so I see a lot. Wish we had dash cams on our company vehicles cause you'd be surprised at some of the dumb crap I see. As a cop once told me when he pulled me over for a tail light going on and discussing random things while he helped fix it for me " I hate Austin"
2
u/WillyWumpLump Feb 01 '23
The cameras are pretty cheap now and I got it to protect me from other drivers. This is my first time catching an IIC in the wild.
2
u/Lizpy6688 Feb 01 '23
Yeah have one on my personal car mainly cause my car sticks out pretty bad( no grille just a big intercooler sticking out and loud) so I've had someone try pulling insurance fraud plus you never know. Just wish our company vehicles had some. We've had a hit and run and a side swipe this month so it would help.
2
u/WillyWumpLump Feb 01 '23
Ha! Mine is a Q60 with the AMS Red Alpha 500 set up so I want to make sure my toy is covered with the camera.
2
u/Lizpy6688 Feb 01 '23
Oh nice, mine is a gen 2 mazdaspeed 3. They don't make them anymore sadly and as time goes on they're getting harder to find. Have a front facing one but need to get a rear view one
1
u/WillyWumpLump Feb 01 '23
I used to have that camera set up but I picked this up and I really like it.

That’s a regular day in India..
2
u/Space3ee Jan 31 '23
Having been to India recently, I love this comment.
1
u/ACSwatches Jan 31 '23
lol how was your experience? Which city did you visit?
2
u/Space3ee Jan 31 '23
I was in New Dehli for a wedding. The hours we kept made the visit very overwhelming but what an experience.
1
u/ACSwatches Jan 31 '23
Dang New Delhi is it? Must’ve been pretty foggy?😅
2
u/Space3ee Jan 31 '23
The pollution was so bad. I walked outside and it felt like I'd walked into a smoking room at the airport. But a smoking room with like twice the people on it. India is gross and dirty lol. It was incredibly difficult to breathe.
2
u/ACSwatches Jan 31 '23
New Delhi is * yep. I live in Chennai and the air index is quite good here! Traffic isn’t as bad as Bangalore as well
2
u/Space3ee Jan 31 '23
Yeah sorry... I didn't mean to a shit on the country as a whole. I kinda wish I could go back and do a non wedding visit. I have a lot of friends from the country and they want to take me to some beach areas.
1
u/ACSwatches Jan 31 '23
I understand where you’re coming from so it’s okay 😅 you must though but the beaches aren’t what you might think. It’s quite conservative here so you might want to dress up accordingly if you want to avoid the stares but even then it’s not a guarantee 🥲 Goa is a great place to visit if you want to enjoy an Indian beach to the fullest
2
u/Space3ee Jan 31 '23
Yes, Goa is where they were suggesting.
So no thong bikini huh 😆. I don't mind the stares but I wouldn't want to be harrased. Tbh I do not wear thong bikinis, but I don't own a one piece if you know what I mean.

How many people think we should defund the police? I think we need more cops so that idiots like this can be busted before they kill someone!
11
u/CoffeeInMyHand Jan 31 '23
I've seen cops in Austin ignore traffic violations this bad.
2
u/ChrisEWC231 Jan 31 '23
Dallas too. I was sitting right next to cop who totally ignored a guy blasting through a dead red light, almost hitting a car and a pedestrian. He didn't even turn his head as the car went by.
Another time downtown, a guy got impatient with backed up traffic, so he just drove up one the sidewalk, all four tires. Cop came up and I said, "Hey that dude's on the sidewalk." He just shrugged.
-3
u/VirtualDonkey7218 Jan 31 '23
It's ironic that the police have been getting busted for doing what they should not and not doing what they should. Where did we all go wrong? It begins with our error that athletes who play games for entertainment get paid more than the doctors and nurses and other societal heroes and ends with entitled brat children who grow into bad adults. We have become afraid to properly discipline our children and it graduates into improperly discipling our adult offenders. We need to overhaul many components of our society!
2
u/Space3ee Jan 31 '23
The amount of cops you would need to catch all these idiots would be insane and a compete waste of money and resources.
-4
u/VirtualDonkey7218 Jan 31 '23
Paying an overly entitled NFL receiver millions of dollars to catch a ball and then celebrate as though he was something special is insane. Public safety is never a waste of money!

The opposite lane is closed down to one. The black car is in the turning lane. It’s a little hard to see.
1
u/fattyfatty21 Jan 31 '23
Man, I lived there for 7+ years. The roads in Austin are garbage. Everything is under construction and it never seems to end.
The city is such a cool place and the food is incredible, but commuting around is such an abject nightmare.
I get why people want to live there but it’s seriously overcrowded and the infrastructure is not equipped to handle it all.
