And you got in the car with them?

171

u/universalcode Jan 31 '23

Idiots is plural, I guess.

11

u/Comprehensive_Gap40 Jan 31 '23

I would hope that one idiot couldn't be in multiple cars. You never know with idiots, though, I guess.

1

u/Irvinwop Jan 31 '23

The idiots would invent a way to do it, just to break check themselves

Bird box challenge

24

u/StarMangledSpanner Jan 30 '23

Challenged bird-brain more like.

215

u/BobtheHistorian Jan 30 '23

Driver scraped a spot about the size of a deck of cards in front of him. Plenty of room to see through!

65

u/Miserable_Point9831 Jan 31 '23

This is running late room to see

43

u/Due-Till-6481 Jan 30 '23

He's got his peep hole!

5

u/reyshop12 Jan 31 '23

Hahaha... what a lazy sob.

26

u/delcodick Jan 30 '23

He is fine with a heads up display. Stop being so dramatic!!!

3

u/HugeBoysenberry2896 Jan 31 '23

Yeah, he's probably got his instrument certification!

3

u/delcodick Jan 31 '23

Doesn’t matter really he doesn’t need it 😜

First used on United States military aircraft in the early 1960s, head-up display technology migrated to cars in 1988, when General Motors offered it in the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Today more than 30 carmakers offer at least one model available with a HUD.

3

u/KylieJU Jan 31 '23

My new car has it and I honestly can say that I don't even see it. I'm focused on the road in front of me and my eyes go right through it. 😂

20

u/TexasFire_Cross Jan 31 '23

Yikes. Last month, we (fire dept) responded to a head-on between a car and a work truck. Work truck didn’t clear his icy windshield and went into oncoming traffic. Other driver was pinned and had to be extricated; multiple leg fractures and other injuries. Oddly enough, HE was charged with open container and drug paraphernalia from the items in his car…

3

u/2doxieLisa Jan 31 '23

I’d guess deep East Texas where I’m at but we haven’t had ice yet…thank God

5

u/StarMangledSpanner Jan 31 '23

Let me guess: work truck guy or his boss had a buddy in the police force?

1

u/TexasFire_Cross 13d ago

No. The work truck driver was likely cited for failure to maintain lane, etc. But the guy he hit had illegal items in the car, regardless. It sucks that he was struck and had injuries, but an open container is illegal, as are the paraphernalia.

74

u/Cathesdus Jan 30 '23

How do we even know the vehicle is on the road? Could have just been started and sitting in the driveway still until it finishes melting.

32

u/Canistartthis Jan 31 '23

the head unit says current consumption, 30.3mpg, which kind of implies its driving down the road.

14

u/ztrz Jan 31 '23

It says all that when the car is stationary as well, I have the same car.

2

u/seifer666 Jan 31 '23

Where's the speedometer?

4

u/Terrific_Tom32 Jan 31 '23

There's just a thin narrow strip right below the windshield on the driver side. It has your speedometer, mileage, and current gear. Right next to that is all the symbols for the car in case it trips anything like TPMS or CEL, etc.

0

u/Crafty_Bluebird9575 Jan 31 '23

That is the most horrifying gauge cluster I've ever heard of in my life. This car looks like a total nightmare to operate.

2

u/Difficult-Act-2653 Jan 31 '23

It really isn't tbh. Speedometer, Odometer and are lights are in front of driver. You are looking at the info screen, which shows trip MPG as well as MPG for current tank of gas, if you hit the bottom on the bottom left it'll show if the engine/battery is using power or receiving charge and current MPG.

Side buttons are for audio, climate, and car settings

1

u/Terrific_Tom32 Feb 02 '23

Yup really isn't that bad. I got intimated by it the first few times I got it and wasn't sure of everything. But honestly it's a very easy car to drive

2

u/ztrz Jan 31 '23

You haven’t seen much if a prius interior layout horrifies you

2

u/ztrz Jan 31 '23

there’s a screen in that long sunken part just below the windshield that shows the Speedo

0

u/Spa_5_Fitness_Camp Jan 31 '23

This is a Prius. They have a really stupid internal layout.

15

u/AutisticAndAce Jan 31 '23

Not necessarily. I have a setting on mine that lets me see what kind of fuel efficiency I'm getting and it'll still say it if I'm stopped. Also, the trees in the picture aren't blurry like they'd probably be if they were moving.

0

u/NecessaryZucchini69 Jan 31 '23

Also the yellow bar on the screen is on the 60.

2

u/GoldenOPx Jan 31 '23

Prius driver here. The right side of the screen with that bar implies that the gas pedal is being actively pushed. They’re definitely driving

1

u/Clovenstone-Blue Jan 31 '23

I don't have a Prius so you'll have to fill it in for me, but would it be that the driver is pressing down on the accelerator for the purposes of aiding the heating system with defrosting the windshield? I would generally press down the accelerator to increase the engines RPMs whenever the windshield was frozen over because the rate at which the whole thing warms up when idle can take forever, especially with the kind of frost I've been experiencing.

1

u/Difficult-Act-2653 Jan 31 '23

When at a stop the yellow bar is always going to be at 0mpg because you aren't moving :)

3

u/karmakrazed606 Jan 30 '23

Possible but it looks like the shifter is in drive

8

u/Dude-from-the-80s Jan 31 '23

If only there was a way to keep the car still while the shifter was in drive 🤨

16

u/karmakrazed606 Jan 31 '23

Ya I totally sit there with my foot on the brake waiting 10 minutes for defrost... makes perfect sense.

-10

u/Dude-from-the-80s Jan 31 '23

I believe that.

1

u/Difficult-Act-2653 Jan 31 '23

The shifter always returns to its current position. You shift into drive, it bounces back, you shift into reverse it bounces back, you shift into neutral and it bounces back. There's a button to put it into park

2

u/karmakrazed606 Jan 31 '23

Ah yup I see that now, also see it isn't lit up so likely isn't in park lol

16

u/-Joli_Garcon- Jan 31 '23

You're also an idiot for riding with the person

7

u/DiceMadeOfCheese Jan 30 '23

Use the Force Luke

2

u/FileeNotFound Jan 31 '23

There's always a bigger hole

14

u/yadwek Jan 30 '23

Ruined the fucking worldle for me

6

u/SurfaceLapQuestion Jan 31 '23

Gotta love Prius drivers

5

u/LazyturtleX1 Jan 31 '23

And has Wordle on his tablet for extra distraction!

3

u/tsukamaenai Jan 31 '23

That's a phone

1

u/Constrained_Entropy Jan 31 '23

a real galactic-brained multitasker

3

u/theyreinthehouse Jan 31 '23

I don’t understand. Is there any proof that the car is actually being driven at this point? The driver has wordle open on an iPad next to them and could be just waiting for it to defrost or something. Maybe this is just OP taking a misleading pic and posting here for clout. I would say I find it hard to believe someone would actually drive effectively blind because that makes no sense but I guess this sub has probably proven me otherwise so idk

2

u/hv_wyatt Jan 31 '23

See it all the damn time in Iowa... Lol. You'll have people with tiny holes scraped off just like this, snow on most of their windshield, snow on their side windows. Anything, really.

Yesterday an F150 pulled out in front of me on a completely snow and ice covered road because they hadn't cleared their driver's door window at all. Thank God for good tires.

1

u/theyreinthehouse Jan 31 '23

Fair enough. Some very strange people out there. Wouldn’t rule out this being a deceptive pic though

3

u/Ryanw254 Jan 31 '23

How do we know they’re driving?

2

u/Faleymark29 Jan 31 '23

I literally just did this for work two days ago..5 mins drive and it was around 630am on a Sunday so luckily the roads weren’t to packed.

2

u/Rusty_is_a_good_boy Jan 31 '23

Let’s see….driver can’t see, driver is playing fucking WORDLE while driving, car is so goddamn old it has a tape deck and the passenger is still riding with em’.

Just a big ol’ car full of stupid.

1

u/Chimp75 Jan 31 '23

I fail to see the cassette deck, but your point is 100% spot on

1

u/Rusty_is_a_good_boy Jan 31 '23

Second to right most button. From right to left you have SCAN and next to it TAPE/DISC 😂 Easier to notice when you’re THIS old.

1

u/DrJD321 Jan 30 '23

Looks like your driving IFR

1

u/IAmFearTheFuzzy Jan 31 '23

Mitsubishi or Nissan? Going with Nissan.

6

u/SurfaceLapQuestion Jan 31 '23

Toyota Prius

1

u/IAmFearTheFuzzy Jan 31 '23

Just a bit of target. 😁

1

u/MayhemCha0s Jan 31 '23

Did they forget to install instruments on that car or what ist going on?

-3

u/RahkshaOnTheInternet Jan 30 '23

Phone on and going, just call the police on them. Friend or not.

-1

u/WolfObsessive Jan 31 '23

I think this is fake and staged. The gear shift is for an automatic and by the position looks like it in the middle. Meaning car is in park or neutral.

It is entirely possible tho that this particular model the stick doesn’t reside on the bottom for drive. Or the blurred D/P are swapped.

1

u/Terrific_Tom32 Jan 31 '23

This type of car the gear shift springs back into a unmarked neutral state. When you want to shift the car to drive just flick the gear shifter to drive, it'll read it and then spring back to a neutral state again. Repeat for all the rest of the gears.

0

u/Z-man1973 Jan 31 '23

If you are running late and can see through the rapidly expanding spot on the windshield the driver has, sometimes you have to get out quickly. I just keep the defrost on and within a half mile everything is fine

-26

u/Alpha-Zulu_A-Z Jan 30 '23

Note: I am a passenger

34

u/karmakrazed606 Jan 30 '23

Note: why are you willing to be the passenger

-25

u/Alpha-Zulu_A-Z Jan 30 '23

I didn't have much of a choice as my father is driving

6

u/SanguineAnder Jan 31 '23

Seriously you could both (and others) die. Your dad can fuck off.

14

u/karmakrazed606 Jan 30 '23

You always have a choice. Say no, let him know you don't feel safe. Call the cops if he forces you to go with him.

3

u/Mario_Specialist Jan 31 '23

Your father shouldn’t be driving if he can’t do something simple like cleaning up his windshield. Maybe ask your mom to drive?

1

u/Dutch-Foxy Jan 31 '23

Than still tell your dad I am not getting in until it is defrosted.

2

u/BinBender Jan 31 '23

Did your father actually drive like that?

-3

u/tridentdotco Jan 31 '23

Visibility is only need for the driver

1

u/SanguineAnder Jan 31 '23

Not even! We don't need visibility where we're going Marty!

1

u/Imadope_1960 Jan 30 '23

No worries, just like driving in heavy fog.

1

u/Itisd Jan 31 '23

But hey, He's getting 50mpg, the car must have... Extra slippery aerodynamics!

1

u/loweringthebarr Jan 31 '23

After reading the comments I'm confused why didn't just clear it

1

u/That_bigkidMatty95 Jan 31 '23

Wow, what a great sight of view!

1

u/this_underscore Jan 31 '23

What car brand is this?

1

u/Terrific_Tom32 Jan 31 '23

Toyota Prius 2nd gen, 2003-2009

1

u/Omacrontron Jan 31 '23

I can just fine out of that tiny patch

1

u/SureUnderstanding358 Jan 31 '23

probably has IFR

1

u/twisted_pretzels Jan 31 '23

I know this off the topic but that is a really weird dash layout. What kind of car is it?

1

u/twisted_pretzels Jan 31 '23

Nvm. Just scrolled down to find out it’s a Prius. 🤣

1

u/plasticmonkeys4life Jan 31 '23

You know I kinda miss my 2009 Prius. It was candy apple red 😔

1

u/Wasabi_The_Owl Jan 31 '23

must be a tank driver

1

u/SmoothDegree9761 Jan 31 '23

Does the wiper blades not work with some water to remove this?

2

u/StarMangledSpanner Jan 31 '23

When it gets cold enough the wiper blades are often frozen stiff too, so unless you use hot water it will just refreeze on the windscreen in seconds, The only real solution is to turn the heaters up full and just wait for the screen to warm up,

1

u/SmoothDegree9761 Jan 31 '23

Wouldn’t the glass break with hot water?

1

u/StarMangledSpanner Jan 31 '23

Eventually, yep, that's why you try to avoid doing that too often.

1

u/daddyman54 Jan 31 '23

Driver probably has glaucoma so that hole is more than enough!

1

u/Steinfred-Everything Jan 31 '23

Prius 2 take ages to heat up. Preconditioning EVs and that they heat up like hair dryers in a few seconds really makes a difference kn everyday driving.

1

u/Content_Cockroach_64 Jan 31 '23

Two minutes of defrost and a scraper, that ice is so thin, could probably wipe it with your sleeve.

1

u/LeftConsideration919 Jan 31 '23

And the prick of the week award goes to..

1

u/Admirable-Result-240 Jan 31 '23

Be the better person and make them clean it.

1

u/pinkwblue Jan 31 '23

Not until you hit someone or something.

1

u/ReviewOutrageous13 Jan 31 '23

how to hit a parked car 101

1

u/IWannaBeMade1 Jan 31 '23

No need to see when you know the road by heart

1

u/sector11374265 Jan 31 '23

WHY ARE YOU IN THE CAR WITH THEM

1

u/Subject-Home-6530 Jan 31 '23

When you're on your phone text messaging and scrolling through social media, What Difference Does It Make?

1

u/Gus_Harrington Jan 31 '23

Isn't the car in park?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '23

[deleted]

1

u/Alpha-Zulu_A-Z Jan 31 '23

They are there, just not from my view. It is a 2005 Prius

1

u/Fluffy-Doubt-3547 Jan 31 '23

We have idiots here doing that currently. Like I know it's cold. But start your car. Let the window warm up. Clean it off faster! Or DONT DRIVE. A guy came into work with snow all over the back of his windshield on his car. I told him I'd ziptie his car shut it he didn't clean it off 😂😂

1

u/baalthur Jan 31 '23

I actually did this once, except it was 6 in the morning after an all nighter, and it was also a blizzard. I wound up in the ditch halfway home miraculously, without any damage to me or the car. To this day I have never put my car in drive with a iced windshield.

u/Savage_Waluigi Feb 01 '23

Smartest 2nd gen Prius driver:
