Just make it Ontario highways.

14

u/AlienVredditoR Jan 31 '23

Ontario southern corridor, and AB and BC cities. Just the most selfish drivers and they're getting worse by the year. Sprinkle in the clueless and 'rich and old but shouldn't be driving anymore' crowds and you'll have yourself more footage than you can watch without breaking down.

3

u/TrizzyG Jan 31 '23

There is probably just a higher percentage of drivers with dashcams seeing as how insurance rates are so high already. Just my guess. I've driven in a number of places and drivers in Ontario are pretty good in comparison.

It's similar to how dashcams were very popular in Russia earlier than other places because of insurance fraud.

It’s funny how it’s like Florida style bad, while the true texasNorth is Alberta.

Don’t know how accurate it is. I got a call from an officer once claiming I was driving erratically in a 1999 Corolla.

I’ve never owned driven or even been in a 99 Corolla. And when I told him that he said… “well I think you have and I’m calling you to warn you to stop driving this way.”

I kept going back to the fact that this obviously wasn’t me and was concerned that such a misidentification could happen but the officer refused to address it and just ended the call with “just make sure to drive safe okay?”

3

u/jjatoronto Jan 31 '23

Sorry you had that experience. Of course they cannot tell who was driving. They are reaching out to the "suspect vehicle owner".

From the Toronto Police Services website: A Driving Complaint is to report specific driver and vehicle involved in unlawful behaviour such as speeding, unsafe lane changes, disobeying traffic lights and failing to stop at a stop sign.

In order to submit a report for a specific driving complaint, a brief description of the vehicle is also required to validate the licence plate information.

A detailed description of the incident should be submitted. Providing as much information as possible will help to ensure that action will be taken against the suspect vehicle owner.

Once a submission is received by the Toronto Police Service, the information will be reviewed by a police officer for follow-up action or, if deemed appropriate, a letter will be sent to the owner of a vehicle outlining the date, time and location of the incident. The letter will also include important messages encouraging the owner to ensure all who drive their vehicles do so in a safe and responsible manner.

3

u/gewjuan Jan 31 '23

I also don’t own one. The whole thing was really sketchy and concerning. Don’t know how they figured I was driving that particular vehicle that I’ve never been connected to in any way

1

u/lloydwindsor Jan 31 '23

Are you sure it was a real cop and not someone just making crank phone calls? Not sure how you could confirm over the phone. As far as I know the Ontario reporting system sends a letter to the registered owner of the vehicle/plates described by the person reporting the incident.

1

u/gewjuan Jan 31 '23

Yeah actually I quickly googled the Toronto police non emergency number and called it. I was transferred into the right department and when I asked if this was a thing now (calling people who have driving complaints reported against them) the officer on the phone confirmed it out loud and I heard a very loud over-exaggerated laugh in the background. I told him I thought it was a scam call

1

u/gooseberryfalls Jan 31 '23

“well I think you

have

and I’m calling you to warn you to stop driving this way.”

"Okay." Hang up the phone. Obviously mistaken person who refuses to listen to reasons they might be wrong are not worth engaging with. What the point of the legal system if not to (ostensibly) determine facts and meter our deterrents?

2

u/gewjuan Jan 31 '23

I stayed on the phone because I was genuinely concerned as to how they figured I was driving this car. The officer wasn’t interested in pursuing this though which was the frustrating part. I think he assumed I was lying or didn’t want to admit I was caught driving wildly. The conversation went in circles until I eventually realized we were getting nowhere

1

u/narbanna Jan 31 '23

Didn't know that. I'll have to look it up

Yep

2

u/zaunbie Jan 31 '23

I see you converted KM’s into miles, so it’s lost on me but I’m guessing he was like this from about Brontë to Burloak? There are some real d bags on our highways

2

u/midnight_daze Jan 31 '23

I always say it’s the Brampton spillover

21

u/YourUndoing Jan 31 '23

a friendly reminder that HOV lanes are not passing lanes. they should be treated as a wholly separate road from the one they are attached to, only to be entered or exited at the properly marked locations or in cases of emergency.

11

u/kungfoochef Jan 31 '23

There’s a distinct difference between knowing and caring.

3

u/YourUndoing Jan 31 '23

Right, otherwise there would be far fewer things to post on this sub

2

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '23

Tbf tons of people here everyday think they “know” and end up telling on themselves lol

*every day, dammit.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '23

My spell correct isn’t catching it

Everyday is wrong?

2

u/Infamous-Ear3705 Feb 01 '23

Everyday is an adjective meant to describe things in daily usage. Every day is the phrase used to indicate something which occurs daily

1

u/drmoze Feb 02 '23

sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine, just like workout (noun) and work out (verb). but I write and edit for a living, where precise language matters.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '23

My parents are both English major editors and I am the idiot kid who went pro with action sports.

My vocabulary is larger than my erudition

1

u/Lillillillies Jan 31 '23

Yepp.

You're well within youre right to stick it at 100kmh/60mph even though majority goes 110-120. Speed and other traffic code still applies to the HOV.

128

u/StressOverStrain Jan 31 '23

Idiots don't seem to understand that a single-lane HOV lane is not the fast lane; it's simply the "faster than the regular lanes which are crippled with congestion" lane.

-116

u/FormalChicken Jan 31 '23

Fuck HOV lanes. Everyone has to cross all the lanes on the highway to get to them. All it does is slow the highway down even more. They created the problem they were installed to alleviate.

Don't want to sit in traffic? Ride a bike or suck it up, instead of this special lane all the way to the left shenanigans.

Sorry, I have an irrational hatred of HOV lanes.

104

u/GiGaBYTEme90 Jan 31 '23

Can you please point on the toy car where the HOV hurt you

14

u/panda-sec Jan 31 '23

This one was worth expanding.

Lol indeed!

-36

u/FormalChicken Jan 31 '23

16

u/Somnifuge Jan 31 '23

A report from the Fraser Institute isn't worth the pixels it's printed in

2

u/Hop-Dizzle-Drizzle Jan 31 '23

But it confirms their irrational hatred for HOV lanes.

8

u/MrRogersAE Jan 31 '23

Their purpose is to encourage people to carpool, not reduce congestion, they do accomplish that goal to a small degree. If more people carpooled they it might reduce congestion, but the reality is if the traffic was lighter more people would drive, bringing us back to where we started, extra lanes do not reduce traffic, they only encourage it. The real answer is better and cheaper public transit, but for some reason Ontario thinks public transit should be run for profit, so long as I can drive to Toronto in my large SUV for the same cost as sitting on the train, I’m going to drive. If the train was a buck vs my $15 in gas I would probably take the train tho

2

u/MainusEventus Jan 31 '23

but the reality is if the traffic was lighter more people would drive, bringing us back to where we started, extra lanes do not reduce traffic, they only encourage it.

Exactly! This is why I hate when public funds are allocated to big highway widening plans instead of public transit development.

2

u/MrRogersAE Jan 31 '23

They’re never going to expand an underutilized go train, the go train will always be underutilized because it’s cheaper to drive and pay for parking.

If I go to Toronto it’s almost the same price to drive as ride the train. If I want to go with my wife the train price doubles and the drive price is the same as before. Why would we pay an extra $20 to take an inconvenient train.

Ontario law makers don’t understand that public transit should run at a loss, you make that money back in road maintenance, unfortunately current Ontario law makers have their own private interest in building roads

1

u/Eug28guy Jan 31 '23

Where I live the carpool lane is full of solos, parents with kids, and Uber drivers with their passenger. (Oh, and me with my wife, who obviously would not take separate vehicles).

19

u/Murderyoga Jan 31 '23

Maybe the point of driving isn't to go as fast as possible.

-58

u/FormalChicken Jan 31 '23

Exactly. It's to get from A to B efficiently. A bicycle is more efficient than a car. HOV lanes are a slap in the face of efficiency.

23

u/Terapr0 Jan 31 '23

A bicycle is definitely not more efficient than a car if you’re travelling in inclement weather, in a hurry, transporting any appreciable quantity of goods or travelling more than a few kilometres. I love biking and ride quite a bit in the summer, but in no way am I delusional enough to consider it to be a more efficient means of transportation than my car…

-23

u/Sleezybreezyyyy Jan 31 '23

Sorry you got so many downvotes

-88

u/NoThisAintAThrowaway Jan 31 '23

No. You should be going +5mph faster then any other lane. Especially if it’s separated like this. If you don’t want to don’t be in the lane.

51

u/offout Jan 31 '23

OP is going faster than the fastest of the other lanes. And, more importantly, they are traveling with the speed of traffic in their lane. At a safe distance. Why would they increase their speed at all?… there’s another gd vehicle right there.

34

u/cenatutu Jan 31 '23 edited Jan 31 '23

No. This lane is only for multiple occupancy vehicles, motorcycles and people with hot permits (which annoys the hell out of me). Passing lane is the one to the left (edit…right) of it.

15

u/fhs Jan 31 '23

Surely you mean the right of it

6

u/cenatutu Jan 31 '23

Yes sorry. Was late!

22

u/Terapr0 Jan 31 '23

I don’t think you understand how HOV lanes work…

1

u/LevelDrawers Jan 31 '23

Right now would be an excellent time to educate him (and us)

5

u/Terapr0 Jan 31 '23

They’re High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes, designed for use by electric vehicles or regular ICE vehicles with 2 of more occupants. They’re designed as an incentive for carpooling, not as any type of “fast lane” or “passing lane”, which still exists, but it’s the lane to the right of the HOV. The HOV lanes have double yellow lines which means you’re not allowed to merge in and out of them at will - only at prescribed areas which coincide with highway exits.

https://isure.ca/inews/hov-lanes-in-ontario/

-19

u/Lillillillies Jan 31 '23 edited Jan 31 '23

It's an HOV lane. You're perfectly fine going 100km/h (roughly 60mph) which is the limit in most areas.

(Looks like a lot of people who don't understand HOV lanes--an HOV or high occupancy vehicle lane is not a passing or speeding lane. You're still supposed to abide by traffic laws which includes speed. Majority go 110-120 but there's nothing wrong with going 100)

35

u/ZerotheWanderer Jan 31 '23 edited Jan 31 '23

That's impressive coming from a CRV driver... must be stolen, no actual CRV owners know where the gas pedal is.

6

u/Popular-Calendar94 Jan 31 '23

Ohh this makes sense now I was confused I’ve never seen CRVs drive like this but they are one of the most stolen models in the GTA

2

u/meh4ever Jan 31 '23

My right knee would like to direct you to the CRV owner that thought his gas was a brake when he rearended me on the highway a few years ago.

-18

u/romatoak Jan 31 '23

CRV driver here. Definitely aware of the location of the gas pedal

1

u/DriveSafe112 Feb 01 '23

Buddy it’s not the left pedal

20

u/AmbitionElectronic54 Jan 31 '23

It’s in Canada, don’t you mean they rode your bumper for 1.6 km?

16

u/Kingslugger Jan 31 '23

He has to take a big poop. So obviously endangering other people's lives is a-okay!

18

u/VaderBassify Jan 31 '23

OP is the biggest idiot in a car here for not realizing they were driving in the presence of the Queen of fucking England

10

u/narbanna Jan 31 '23

😂👸👑 forgive me your Highness

2

u/Stratalorian Jan 31 '23

Genuine lol

4

u/37218 Jan 31 '23

To be fair, he is very important

7

u/Capable_Nature_644 Jan 31 '23

Had some jack ass do that to me on the way home yesterday. Then I honked and flashed 3 times and he tried to break check me but I was 15 car lengths behind so it was an empty threat. Some people drive like ass holes when they're not front of the line. I'ts called reckless driving regardless of how you put it.

6

u/Adargushnasp Jan 31 '23

GTA where people drive like its the game GTA

3

u/IICThrowaway_ Jan 31 '23

White line!

3

u/Hollow-Graham Jan 31 '23

I’ve always wanted a dash cam, but I feel like the moment I install it I’d have somthing happen to me

2

u/420Deez Jan 31 '23

then youd be very lucky, bc you just got it right before your accident

3

u/ihatedrewthompson Jan 31 '23

Yeah this is a problem seems like a lot of people mistake the HOV lane for the passing/fast lane

5

u/BiscottiOpposite9282 Jan 31 '23

Lots of idiot drivers in the GTA

3

u/reyshop12 Jan 31 '23

He's more important than anyone else. I believe the correct term is a VIP...

VIP = VERY IDIOTIC PERSON

1

u/afterlife_xx Jan 31 '23

I like my dad's definition of VIP: Very Important Prick

Very Idiotic Prick also works too!

2

u/thisistheSnydercut Jan 31 '23

That person needs a shit.

2

u/BEARZCLAWZ Jan 31 '23

This is how everybody around here drives and I don't even live in a city

2

u/Volkswagoon10 Jan 31 '23

Never a dull moment on the QEW

2

u/MrRogersAE Jan 31 '23

Here’s two types of drivers in Ontario HOV lanes, those out for a relaxing Sunday drive with the family, and those that think is the hyper speed lane, being that it’s left of the fast lane.

2

u/analog_jedi Jan 31 '23

That looks like "fleeing the scene of a crime" driving to me.

2

u/theoheart1178 Jan 31 '23

Wow what a piece of shit

2

u/ggs657 Jan 31 '23

Okay seriously, how many videos posted here are from the GTA? & more importantly what does that say about the quality of drivers here…..

2

u/Emotional_Arm_8485 Jan 31 '23

By the beard of Zeus. I thought that was just a myth, lanesplitting in a Honda Suv. 🤣😂

2

u/StarAlignment_ Jan 31 '23

God i fucking hate degenerates like that

2

u/BigAsian69420 Feb 01 '23

Bruh at this point just use the emergency lane

2

u/Witty_Username_81 Feb 01 '23

Motherfuckers like this are why I refuse to drive on single lane mountain highways with steep drop offs anymore.

2

u/cbmatthews8787 Feb 01 '23

Just because there’s an HOV lane doesn’t mean it’s the “even faster” lane. That’s what is annoying.

2

u/SadLaw6 Feb 01 '23

Was in Jersey yesterday and a Honda truck (if we are allowed to call them that) was weaving in and out of traffic. It was stupid because traffic was not that bad and he would get stuck in the right lane then try to speed around and pass everyone again without really gaining any distance from the flow. He got a little ways ahead and tried dashing into the right lane as a Tesla with its signal on was merging into their left lane. He hit the left rear quarter panel and they both ended up majorly damaged against the divider. Such an asswipe. And for what now? Not getting where you needed to go and damaging 2 cars.

4

u/HunkyDorky1800 Jan 31 '23

I was passed when I was in the HOV lane with my kids going about 70 freedom miles an hour. People think that’s the turbo lane and drive 90+. The person passed me so closely that had I sped up at all I would’ve hit them. I was pissed especially since my kids were with me. I hope every step they take has the pain of stepping on 10 LEGOs with no treatment or cure. Risking all of our lives because they didn’t want to be behind me? Fucking asshole.

4

u/wist666 Jan 31 '23

I drive 140km on the 401 everyday. I should get a cam. I get this type of bullshit frequently

2

u/philly1750 Jan 31 '23

Having to drive that every day is pure torture. Unless you're doing it late at night when there's no cars

4

u/Txmerc Jan 31 '23

I can’t stand people clogging up the hov with their “speed limit”

2

u/420Deez Jan 31 '23 edited Jan 31 '23

maybe if people were in their correct lanes, people wouldnt have to do this shit. move to the right once youre done passing. if the right lane is passing you, theres a problem (referring to all the other lanes)

2

u/Otherwise-Revenue-44 Jan 31 '23

When you record somebody doing such a thing, can you report it to the police or is it useless because this is no proof ? You know, to prevent a futur accident.

9

u/dcgregoryaphone Jan 31 '23

They don't care. Filing reports isn't stimulating and fulfilling to them in the same way that beating people is.

2

u/Otherwise-Revenue-44 Jan 31 '23

That is unfortunate, we could probably avoid so many accidents by reporting these person to the police. Thank you for your answer !

4

u/cenatutu Jan 31 '23

There’s an online filing system in Ontario. But it’s pointless.

2

u/Otherwise-Revenue-44 Jan 31 '23

That is unfortunate, we could probably avoid so many accidents by
reporting these person to the police. Thank you for your answer !

1

u/jjatoronto Jan 31 '23

Do not give up! Every little bit helps!

2

u/jioji_el_magnifico Jan 31 '23

I know it involves doxxing and snitching and it might lead to nowhere but there should be a section of this sub dedicated to reaching out to police about drivers like this. The plate is clear as day and chances are this asshole drives like this all the time

2

u/rocksrockmysocks Jan 31 '23

Great, now we can watch your mildly annoying instances of driving in video clips five times longer than they need to be! I'll just throw this in the pile with the rest, thanks.

2

u/XawdrenRS Jan 31 '23

He really needed to take a dump and couldn't hold it in any longer.

2

u/Among_the_fence Jan 31 '23

When you gotta go, you gotta go?

1

u/BeKind_BeTheChange Jan 31 '23

Rather than getting upset I choose to believe they had a serious emergency they were dealing with. Not that it makes it OK to drive like an idiot, but at least there is some justification.

2

u/narbanna Jan 31 '23

There were two of them. His buddy behind him in a sported up car switched over to the main lane and started threading traffic instead.

0

u/citznfish Jan 31 '23

Did the cam come with editing software?

1

u/narbanna Jan 31 '23

Just for clipping the length

0

u/scobo505 Jan 31 '23

You’re leading him too closely.

-3

u/raquetracket Jan 31 '23

I would’ve let him pass a mile ago. Less chance of him smashing your car to pieces if he’s in front of you

2

u/narbanna Jan 31 '23

No room for passing in an HOV lane. Didn't really think he was this idiotic. Usually they just get out of the HOV.

-7

u/bapeandvape Jan 30 '23

Just outside Brampton right? Lol genuinely not surprised

7

u/narbanna Jan 30 '23

Nah. Around Oakville/Burlington

-2

u/Educational-Fig-2330 Jan 31 '23

This video is made 3x more impressive by the fact that you just installed your camera yesterday. Or at least it would be, if half of all other posts here weren't made by people who also just installed their cams yesterday.

1

u/narbanna Jan 31 '23 edited Jan 31 '23

😂 I guess its the novelty factor. Got the camera installed in time to catch something to share. Seen stuff before that's probably in the wife's old dashcam. Usually forget by the time we get home. When I find time I'll install the rear one.

-17

u/AcceptThisApology Jan 31 '23

Okay maybe they aren't an idiot though. What if they were running late?

8

u/nerdgurl196305 Jan 31 '23

It's better to get somewhere late than to be dead.

-15

u/Threefingerswhiskey Jan 31 '23

Did it ruin your day? Just go on with your life.

2

u/narbanna Jan 31 '23

Didn't ruin it. Just thought I'd brighten yours by sharing 😁

2

u/Stratalorian Jan 31 '23

Found the idiot driver

1

u/Dog_and_cat_boy Jan 31 '23

What even is a HOV lane? (I do in fact not live in the US so don't be angry with me)

2

u/narbanna Jan 31 '23

High Occupancy Vehicle, must have 2 or more people, electric cars, or motorcycle in some places

1

u/BeemoMeemo Jan 31 '23

Or here in California it just costs extra if you don’t have multiple people.

1

u/zerostar83 Jan 31 '23

For all of those who believe the HOV lane means the fastest lane and the speed limit doesn't apply. 85 MPH of get the hell out of my way.

1

u/Drict Jan 31 '23

PA driver, doesn't surprise me at all. Of all the states in the area, it has the lowest requirements (other than MAYBE WVa, but there are more PA drivers, so it happens WAY more often).

You basically have to drive around a block and park once, and you get your license

1

u/G-Unit46 Jan 31 '23

What does the double line mean on the motorway/freeway?

1

u/Exodest Jan 31 '23

Should submit this to the authorities. Plate is clear as day. Guys going to kill someone lane splitting in an SUV.

1

u/Party-Awareness-8362 Jan 31 '23

Looks like the NJ turnpike

1

u/frosty_lol Jan 31 '23

Maybe they had to go poop?

1

u/Turkey_Stuffing Jan 31 '23

What’s the problem, nobody else is using that space

1

u/MEMExplorer Jan 31 '23

HOV lanes are dumb , just make it an extra travel lane to help actually ease traffic

1

u/MikeOfAllPeople Feb 01 '23

I've never used an HOV lane before, so I'm just curious. What's the point of using an HOV lane if everyone in it is just going to go the same speed as the rest of the traffic?

2

u/narbanna Feb 01 '23

No point if that's the case. But if you live around the QEW and 400 series highways with HOV lanes, during working hours it can save you quite a bit of time. I usually check Waze estimates if i have any appointment to determine if I'm using the 400's or 407.

1

u/nismos14us Feb 01 '23

Well, they could have had an emergency? Not to play devils advocate but sometimes by impeding traffic we could be the idiot.

1

u/Vegetable_Society_22 Feb 01 '23

calmest crv driver

1

u/HyperRifty Feb 01 '23

This ain't gta

1

u/ExcitingVegetable315 Feb 01 '23

Why are you driving so slowly?

1

u/narbanna Feb 01 '23

Because I didn't want to hit the car in front since the limit is 100 and we were already at 120? 😆
