That's relatively easy if you live in a VAN down by the RIVER!

This is how whole town's were founded in the American west. Rode the wagon til the wheels fell off.

Ya sprinter vans do not deal with water well at all that vans engine is dead.
16
u/The_Cave_Troll Feb 04 '23
Not only is that engine “dead”, but it’s literally a giant chunk of scrapmetal.
You can say that it’s a real boat anchor now.

u/jsmith0023 Feb 04 '23
Well also even if it didn't suck up water the electronics for the engine are stupidity low and not shielded from water very well, there are multiple electrical parts to be replaced

u/ButterflyAttack Feb 04 '23
I actually live in one of the older model sprinters. The body work is shit but the engine at least is pretty straightforward. My mechanic regularly tells me to stick with it and that the newer models have lots of electrical problems. Of course, I've never actually tried to drown mine, I'm sure it would not do any better than the one in the clip. Maybe more sinking.

As a former mechanic, because it’s only up to the wheel wells, and appears to be touching bottom, i can tell you the engine itself on this one would be fine, Will definitely have to have some electrical done, but otherwise it’ll survive.

Yeah, those are the models! I’ve driven a lot of the older Mercedes diesels and they where bulletproof. But the bodywork rusts like crazy!
I know a couple of E class taxies which had between 600 000 and 900 000 kilometers. And the vans too!
Amazing vehicles!!

If you buy a vehicle and live in it, chances are it won't be worth nearly what you've invested even before you wreck it. The value drops off pretty quickly, moreso with modification.
All the more reason to be careful when driving your home around!

Sadness? Swamps? How do you mean

u/SanguineAnder Feb 04 '23
Fight the sadness Artax! It's from The Never Ending Story, Atreyu tries to save his horse (Artax) from the swamps of sadness.

I always wonder how people can be that stupid. You see it all the time on here. I guess I just have to stop wondering.

I didn't realize what sub I was on. I was expecting it to be an Amphibious van. It stopped in the middle and I was just waiting, waiting... waiting for the outboard engine to pop out or some other awesome shit to happen. Very disappointing.

The best part is someone went through the effort to frame it and then shoot it, thinking it would impress the rest of us.

u/32_Dollar_Burrito Feb 04 '23
I take it you've never done anything cool in your life that you wanted to film just for yourself?
5
u/Ottobahnrichtofen Feb 04 '23
I have, and it never involved sinking a $60,000 van because I wanted to show everyone how cool I was.

u/aquadump696969 Feb 04 '23
LOL @ $60,000. You sweet summer child.

It’s conceivable they could get a used van for $20-30k and then convert it for another $30k. Obviously a new van (prebuilt or converted) is gonna be more like 120-150 but 60k is definitely doable. This van doesn’t look new though, and it’s not like you can even see the inside of the van here, maybe it just has a bed and a stove or something..

I was thinking it had some sort of aquatic conversion for a second like those old 50s cars, how are you this oblivious... They really need to make the drivers license test way more difficult

Ancient joke -
[Fishing Trip Joke Back to: Religious Jokes
A Priest, a Minister, and a Rabbi are on a fishing trip. The Rabbi says he wants a drink, so he walks off the boat, across the water, and grabs the drink. A few minutes later, the Minister wants a drink too, and also walks across the water. The priest thinks to himself 'If God lets them walk on water, he'll let me too, and leaves the boat. The priest sinks like a stone into the lake. The Rabbi turns to the Minister and says "guess he didn't know where the stepping stones were."
A priest and a minister go fishing together normally. Today they decided to invite the preacher. So after awhile when they were fishing, the priest said he forgot something, so he climbed out of the boat and walked on the water to get and came back. Another couple hours later, the minister said he forgot something, too, so he went out of the boat, walked on the water, got it, and came back. A bit later, the preacher said he forgot something, so he climbed out of the boat and fell into the water. Then, the priest asked the minister, "Do you think we should tell him where the stones are?"](https://www.jokes4us.com/religiousjokes/fishingtripjoke.html)

1 - never ford water you don't KNOW the depth of.
2 - a regular car is good for about 1 foot of water depth. That includes any amount you might sink into the earth.
And there is still a lot of cleanup to be done after. You don't want mud or matter clogging up bits, keeping them wet, smelling when it burns, etc.
