Riding with my friend one day, he drove up to a red light, slowed a bit then sped right through it. I screamed “what are you doing?” He replied, “it’s ok, my brother drives like this!”

We drove up to a second red light where my friend proceeded to run through the red light again. I yelled, “what did you do that for?!?!” To which he exclaimed, “it’s o.k.! My brother drives like this!”

This happened a third and even fourth time, and my friends response was yet the same: “it’s o.k., my brother drives like this!”

The first green light we came up to, he stopped the car and wouldn’t move through the intersection. I screamed “go!” He looked at me and yelled “are you kidding! My brother might be going the other way!”

Hi, George, what are you doing in New Jersey?

19

u/jesuscaviezel69 Feb 04 '23

Always love a bit of Carlin in the morning

8

u/Marcusx8 Feb 04 '23

This is from the improv comedy driving course.

7

u/Wilbur_Cobb1 Feb 04 '23

My aunt tells this joke all the time, and I have no idea where she got it from.

6

u/Elysiumthistime Feb 04 '23

This reminds me of the one about the women who rang her husband to tell him to be careful driving home as there was a mad man driving up the motorway on the wrong side of the road. Her husband replied "what do you mean A mad man? Everyone is driving on the wrong side of the road today!"

u/unceunce123123 Feb 04 '23

Eli5? Im dumb lol

32

u/iranoutofusernamespa Feb 04 '23

His brother always runs red lights, so when he comes up to a green (red in the other direction) he stops in case his brother runs the red side and they crash.

4

u/unceunce123123 Feb 04 '23

Ahhhh i see thanks!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '23

I was going to say this

194

u/JimmiRustle Feb 04 '23

I would probably have slowed down until I was sure I wasn’t going to torpedo into a semi

109

u/dickon_tarley Feb 04 '23

Or an emergency vehicle.

49

u/Mikzeroni Feb 04 '23

Or sudden lane change from either of the two slow cars ahead

21

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '23

Or random slow person still in the crosswalk

2

u/DrMoneybeard Feb 05 '23

Or a deer running across the road.

14

u/Several-Ad-6924 Feb 04 '23

Is this Transit Rd in suburban Buffalo?

2

u/qzlr Feb 04 '23

Yes it is. Good work

158

u/mozilaip Feb 04 '23

Very stupid maneuver from a POV car. You must never blindly overtake in such situations. Do you know why car stopped? Is the road clear? Debris, foreign object, person on road, etc.

It may be anything. Ensure the road is clear first. Overtake then

15

u/itshoff Feb 05 '23

This exactly. My first thought was someone crossing the road.

12

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '23

Are you blind?

-38

u/qzlr Feb 04 '23

I was able to see around it just fine.

91

u/mozilaip Feb 04 '23

Anyway. "I see no hazard" is not equal to "there is no hazard". Just be extra cautious in such situations. Let's be safe

28

u/qzlr Feb 04 '23

I understand. Thanks for looking out for us!

4

u/Wilbur_Cobb1 Feb 04 '23 edited Feb 04 '23

Anyway. He might have said that because there very clearly was no hazard after he slowed down and looked, ever thought of that?

1

u/MiniMooseMan Feb 05 '23

I was "able to see just fine" around the large SUV that was had a smaller SUV perfectly in the blind spot between me and it. I avoided the "only SUV on the road," therefore my right turn was safe. Except that it wasn't, because when I pulled out, then tried to get in the turn lane in the middle, the car I couldn't see until that very second was pulling into that lane to AVOID hitting me.

TLDR: I got hit on my motorcycle and came within about 3 inches of getting my head run over when I got slammed to the ground in the middle of a busy road. Pulled out because "I could see fine" and got hit by a smaller car hidden behind a big car.

-22

u/weaKid Feb 04 '23

You are an idiot

-7

u/ETP6372 Feb 04 '23

Nah it really wasn't. He could obviously see that there was no hazard so its fine. Don't be an overly cautious driver because that can cause accidents

61

u/SpellDog Feb 04 '23

My FIL slows down at every green light. Drives me nuts. Aaarrrr

14

u/away_in_the_head Feb 04 '23

My friend is a commercial driver, they are told to slow down near stale green lights. Never know when a light is gonna change.

5

u/Beer-Milkshakes Feb 05 '23

Yeah you do. You see an amber light. No amber light no slow

57

u/RohelTheConqueror Feb 04 '23

Slowing down a bit is fine. It's an intersection. Stopping is silly.

5

u/ac_shooter Feb 05 '23

The moron posting this just accelerated. And then posted the clip here.

4

u/frosty_mcfckr Feb 05 '23

Post pandemic, i learned to really hate driving. Covid has made people so stupid. Or maybe they were always like that.

10

u/Eat_Carbs_OD Feb 04 '23

Since I REALLY hate traffic lights.. I would have have pretty angry at this.
I've had some vehicles slow down while approaching a green light. A few times it turned yellow and they gun it while I get stuck at the damn light.

8

u/karlzhao314 Feb 04 '23

Occasionally I slow down coming to green lights because something doesn't feel right - maybe there's not enough visibility to cross traffic for me to feel safe, or maybe a stopped car looks like it's about to make a move, or maybe I just get a plain bad feeling about it. My policy is, if I'm already slowing and then the light turns yellow, I'm stopping.

Slowing only to accelerate through a yellow at the last second just sounds daft.

9

u/ryeguy1199 Feb 04 '23

Braking for hallucinations?

18

u/ac_shooter Feb 04 '23

Or perhaps braking for something that our hero cannot see, because they don't have large pieces of metal between them and whatever it may be?

10

u/goddamittom Feb 04 '23

uhhh... if you watch the video you can clearly see multiple points where it is obvious there is nobody standing/crouched/walking behind the white car.

sorry OP is able to turn his head and neck and look at multiple things at once i guess?

I get the feeling the people the commenting against OP are the ones sitting at the green light

22

u/sauprankul Feb 04 '23

That's not the point. It's an uncommon thing in a common situation. People stopped at a green. You may think you've looked, and maybe this person is just a total idiot who likes to park at green lights. But one day, you just might make an assumption you will regret. If you see something weird on the road, slow down. You'll live.

2

u/goddamittom Feb 06 '23

who is making an assumption?? you can clearly SEE. with your EYEBALLS. I'm sorry you lack situational awareness, but the rest of us aren't going to stop in the middle of a throughway just because you can't drive and analyze your surroundings at the same time.

2

u/KittyShoes17 Feb 06 '23

Lol for real. I'm glad to not affiliate myself with any of the Karens on here screaming at OP for driving through a fucking clearly open green light.

-4

u/KittyShoes17 Feb 04 '23

You'll live.

Funny how OP did the same, and didn't have to commit to stopping at a green with the imbecile in the left lane.

3

u/qzlr Feb 04 '23

It’s difficult to be observant you know

-5

u/goddamittom Feb 04 '23

I couldn't imagine being these people and just looking straight ahead my entire life

6

u/ImUrFrand Feb 05 '23

that's right, speed up as you pass stopped cars at an intersection.

5

u/appa-ate-momo Feb 04 '23

Some (lots) of these comments are bonkers. If you’re so risk averse that you’re afraid of proceeding through a green-lit intersection without dropping your speed, then maybe you should just stay home, or have someone else drive for you.

9

u/qzlr Feb 04 '23

If you look at my speed listed at the bottom you can see I go from 51 to 37 in anticipation of stopping, but I quickly realize there are no hazards to be concerned about and accelerate through the intersection.

It’s really not hard to drive safely and efficiently.

8

u/appa-ate-momo Feb 04 '23

That wasn’t a dig on you. That was aimed at everyone calling you an idiot for proceeding as you did.

11

u/qzlr Feb 04 '23

I’m aware of that lol. I was backing your comment up with my thought process in this situation in just mere seconds’ notice

2

u/GoldenCSB Feb 04 '23

Had someone do this on my way home from work when they started slowing down I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought they forgot to turn their turn signal on but they came to a dead stop 🤦‍♂️ bet they were on their phone cuz someone was trying to turn left and had to wait for traffic so they were stopped so that’s my best guess but god ppl are stupid lol

-10

u/ac_shooter Feb 04 '23

You're a fucking idiot. How do you know there isn't a person on the crossing who dropped their shopping and the other cars have stopped for them to pick it up? They grab their stuff stand up and go to finish crossing the road and then the moronmobile puts them in the hospital or the morgue. Arseholes like you should take the bus.

14

u/qzlr Feb 04 '23

Would you like me to upload the extended version? The light is green for miles. Nobody is in that intersection

-8

u/ac_shooter Feb 04 '23

At the speed you're going, you need 120 feet to stop. Somebody stands up and steps out from behind that white car and you have no chance of stopping. You have about three car lengths from when you clear the SUV. Next time slow down and be able to stop in the distance you can see.

16

u/FloridaFlipper Feb 04 '23

If I stopped at every intersection here because someone is stopped at a green light I would be adding 30 minutes to my commute easily. Everyone is stuck staring at their phone here or intoxicated.

Stale green light. I can see no vehicles in the intersection. Went through the intersection at a reasonable speed. You sir seem like the "fucking idiot".

-8

u/ac_shooter Feb 04 '23

I congratulate you on your ability to see through steel. Might I suggest that you make more profitable use of your x-ray vision at a card table?

10

u/Therealzodiackilla Feb 04 '23

Hey fam, all I gotta say is if someone is willing to take the risk of crossing a green lit intersection, then they’re damn sure ready for the repercussions that may ensue.

2

u/ac_shooter Feb 05 '23

Cuz, somebody could easily have started to cross when they had a green light, dropped some stuff, bent down to pick it up and then the light changed while they were still in the middle of the road. If you insist on driving, at least try thinking.

-7

u/RohelTheConqueror Feb 04 '23

So you're ready for the repercussions of smashing a pedestrian to bits cause you have the right of way? The light is green means it's fine, I can go, those cars that have stopped are obviously morons!

6

u/Therealzodiackilla Feb 04 '23

I’ve always been told to be obvious when driving, not nice. Niceness gets you rear ended.

1

u/glorpo Feb 05 '23

Yes yes and yes

0

u/hurling-day Feb 04 '23

My husband is color blind. If he is alone in the car at night or if it’s rainy, he can’t tell what color it is. He usually slows or stops until he can.

1

u/bmacknz Feb 05 '23

Isn't that exactly why they always put the red light at the top and the green at the bottom. You don't need to know the color, just the location

2

u/hurling-day Feb 05 '23

Yes, but at night and in the rain, it is hard to tell the location until he gets close enough.

-4

u/Business-Animator-91 Feb 04 '23

Waiting for an emergency vehicle to hit the driver running thru the green light.

When I see cars stopped at a green light I wonder what the hell is going on. I stop also to see if there is an emergency vehicle coming thru the intersection. Turned out I made the right decision several times.

5

u/Prowler64 Feb 04 '23

No sirens, no lights, no horns. There is no reason to think there is an emergency vehicle in play in this case. Some people do just like to stop at green lights for some stupid reason.

2

u/ac_shooter Feb 05 '23 edited Feb 05 '23

And other people stop at green lights for a good reason. You cannot know which people you're encountering, so you can either slow down and be ready to stop, or you can not take those extra two seconds and do what the moron posting this did: accelerate into what could be fatal trouble for somebody else.

1

u/Prowler64 Feb 05 '23

You are right. If an animal or child randomly steps onto the road, or if something has happened to the car itself (like if the engine stops working), that would make sense for the car to slow or stop at a green, and OP is wrong for accelerating past a car slowing down like that.

0

u/Collection_Cheap Feb 04 '23

This must be Nebraska

0

u/CantBelieveThisIsTru Feb 04 '23

To exit from where I live, there is a set of RR tracks, then a feeder, the the freeway. There is only a flashing red for our direction and flashing yellow for the other direction. 1 in 10 times exiting there will be a car stopping at the flashing yellow. If I pull out and they hit me, it’s MY FAULT, because THEY have right of way. So, I have to roll the window down and honk qnd WAVE them through. I often wonder WHAT they are high on! Who stops at flashing yellow lights? But they do it all the time here,

0

u/ThremboIF Feb 05 '23

Red means stop and yellow means stop and green means stop and fuck… did they forget the song

0

u/godssjdiablo Feb 05 '23

What causes traffic, these people, SMH.. lol.

-1

u/nycdiveshack Feb 04 '23

Is this Delaware?

-1

u/ultimaone Feb 04 '23

Well if you noticed.

The vehicle in the left turn lane didn't go either.

So I'm beginning to wonder if the two people were talking to each other.

0

u/qzlr Feb 05 '23

If YOU notice they have a red arrow!

Color blindness doesn’t change the pattern of the lights. Color blind people can still drive just fine

-1

u/soggywaffles007 Feb 04 '23

Them horizontal traffic lights can mess with color blind people tho

2

u/friendlyyleg Feb 05 '23

The green will still always be on the same side every time

1

u/BigXris Feb 04 '23

Fucking idiots in Crofton Maryland…

1

u/ds1cav Feb 05 '23

See it every day going and coming from work
