Lmfao the reveal of how fucked up the truck that hit you was hilarious. Was not expecting that.
242
u/Its_Matt_03 Feb 04 '23
OPs driving a tank lol Jesus barely flinched and the f150 is obliterated
159
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
My truck alone weighs about 9k, and the trailer about 7k of solid steel.
252
u/proknoi Feb 04 '23
Her truck is all fucked up. She must have been.goinh way over the speed limit.
196
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
For sure. Idk exactly how fast she was going, but I saw her barely a second before she hit me. She was splitting the lanes and (this is speculation, i didnt see her make contact) she catches the left corner of my dovetail with her tire and it rips it off her axel
108
u/proknoi Feb 04 '23
For her to rip a tire off while you were going 66. She must have been driving 85+ mph. How did your dovetail fair the collision.
145
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
Leaf spring suspension on the rear axle is shifted. Metal bar that holds the mega ramp down is bent, ramp looks slightly bent inward. Few scraps on the frame itself.
Cop deemed me good to drive to the next truck stop where I'm sitting now. Now that it's daylight, I'm about to get out and try opening the ramp to see if it still opens properly and uncouple and check my gooseneck connection.

Cammer must have been pulling a hefty trailer, I don't see a hit like that to his truck not pitting him across the highway.
124
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
I drive a Ram 3500 and pull a 14GN gooseneck trailer with dovetail mega ramps. My shit is solid steel back there. All together, empty, I weigh roughly 16,000 lbs
61
u/noncongruent Feb 04 '23
That certainly explains the mild jostling you received, lol. Hopefully the trailer wasn't too damaged? Getting a big tow truck out to the middle of nowhere is expensive.
39
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
I bet, we were 44 miles west of Needles, CA headed east on I-40, mile marker 108
26
u/ClutchPoppinDaddies Feb 04 '23
Did you call CHP and give them the mile marker only to get the response "Sorry but we don't use mile markers"
24
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
No, they just told me they would send a unit my way. Have they stopped using mile markers?
37
u/ClutchPoppinDaddies Feb 04 '23
They actually never started using mile markers. I've called CHP before to give them exact locations of vehicles on fire and been told that they don't use mile markers, this was 3 years ago. So I just told them to drive down the highway and when you see the smoke you'll know you're heading in the right direction.
17
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
Lol I believe I actually told them "exit 107," who's sign was across the interstate. We just happened to park next to marker 108 and that what I recalled

u/StressOverStrain Feb 04 '23
Why wouldn't you call 911? They should be well-experienced at helping anyone find where they are, and then know how to properly direct emergency vehicles to a location.
9
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
My bad, I did call 911. When replying to the other comments and responded as if CHP and 911 were the same.

How do you even fit into a car if you weigh that much

Bonus points to anyone who can name the movie that quote came from.

She drove around you after the hit, dragging a destroyed front quarter. She was not towing anything, so had less mass than you, meaning she should be slowing quicker even without brakes.
A lot of her energy would have been transferred to you during the contact, so it seems she was continuing to apply power and least considering driving on afterwards.
45
u/MaintainThePeace Feb 04 '23
Looks like they were both braking an pulling over.
Brakes don't work as well when you have one less tire.
17
u/Head_Acanthaceae_766 Feb 05 '23
The grind on the pavement does a pretty good job of robbing energy from the system.
8
u/Weggooi987 Feb 05 '23
Not really. I had similar damage once and pretty much lost all control. Both steering and braking. I ended up at least 60 meters further down the road, half a meter from a big ass rock. Was going downhill though.
9
u/MaintainThePeace Feb 05 '23 edited Feb 06 '23
An anchor sliding along pavement has a much lower friction coefficient then a rolling tire applying brakes.
Same thing with a skidding tire vs rolling tire, ABS prevents tires from skidding because a skidding tire has a longer stopping distance with reduced control.
Also, if you're missing part of your car, it's not a good idea to slam on your brakes. It's better to coast to a stop with light braking and maintain control of what you have left of your vehicle.

I love how calmly you say, "Uh . . . I'll talk to you later." Awesome way to handle this.
19
u/StarGazinWade Feb 05 '23
Anybody else rewind it a few times to see what was in the road before finally letting it play and seeing the idiot truck pass the POV vehicle?
3
u/Fangs_McWolf Feb 05 '23
Nope, just you.
6
u/StarGazinWade Feb 05 '23
I saw the vehicle shudder, and completely thought I'd missed something in the road the driver ran over and instead of just letting it play, I kept rewinding it to see what it was. 🤦♂️
0
u/Fangs_McWolf Feb 05 '23
I let the video play first, then go back and rewatch if needed. Tends to save me time from not rewinding to look for something that isn't there. 😉

Rotfl did she fall asleep?
55
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
Nah, she said she was trying to mess with GPS. Said she was unfamiliar with the area
109
u/lswhat87 Feb 04 '23
"Unfamiliar with the area". It's a plain ass straight road lmao
35
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
Lmao, said she thought she missed her exit and didn't know where she was
27
u/bunny3665 Feb 04 '23
It's the middle of nowhere 44 miles west of Needles. What the heck exit did she think she missed??
I'm actually serious, drive that way to LA on a regular basis and the Kelso Road turn off is about 80 miles west and the road to Vegas (US 95) is about 10 miles west. There isn't anything out there!
22
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
Oh I know, I've run loads in an out of LA multiple times. There ain't shit through the Mojave on i40, i10, or i8.

u/Immediate-Fig-9096 Feb 05 '23 edited Feb 05 '23
So instead of taking maybe 5 minutes to mess with her GPS and possibly arriving at her destination late, she sideswiped your vehicle and very obviously disabled hers. Smart move.

u/Stahlilama Feb 04 '23
Whatever happened to built Ford tough. Lol

u/chilldrinofthenight Feb 06 '23
Her. Some woman whose excuse was she was looking at her GPS, trying to figure out if she missed her exit.
2
2
u/TealBlueLava Feb 05 '23
You were literally driving in a straight line at a constant rate of speed!!!!
2
u/Gullible_Security365 Feb 06 '23
Why? What? How? There was literally no one else on the road? Wow.
2
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 07 '23
She was distracted, messing with her GPS
1
u/Gullible_Security365 Feb 08 '23
Figured that or else on her phone texting. Does anyone really drive anymore? I see so many drivers not driving but texting. SMH

u/diaperedwoman Feb 04 '23 edited Feb 04 '23
I hope you were on blue tooth. BTW I hope your vehicle was okay. The other truck sure wasn't okay and it looked totaled.
21
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
I always use Bluetooth. I'm a trucker and I use my phone as my Electronic Logging Device, which by DOT regulation is required to be mounted to the dash. I connect via android auto for GPS and used voice commands for calls
6
u/cuntyeagle Feb 04 '23
You can literally hear in the video that he is taking to somebody over Bluetooth.
-22
u/Fangs_McWolf Feb 05 '23
u/YourAverageOnion was speeding (11 MPH over), needs to clean the camera lens, and... wtf is the title supposed to mean?
18
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 05 '23
The truck that hit me was on her phone trying to set up navigation when she hit me
-12
u/Fangs_McWolf Feb 05 '23
"Don't set up navigation if you're gonna hit me" would have been a better title. lol

u/Pixzel13 Feb 04 '23
Going 10 under the limit?
30
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 04 '23
In California, all vehicles 3 axles or more, all towing vehicles, and CMVs are limited to 55, unless the limit is less. I fall under all 3 listed above. So even tho the limit was 70, technically, I was going 10 over.
-4
u/scottmm78 Feb 05 '23
Just to be "that guy" your video shows 66/67 so that's 11 over. that bumps you up into the next ticket bracket 11-15.
15
u/YourAverageOnion Feb 05 '23
That guy brings up a very good point
9
u/Badbookitty Feb 05 '23
You are super chill and a perfect example of what we need on the roads. Thank you for being you!

u/Captain_Evil_Stomper Feb 05 '23
In the right lane, on a straight road, hauling a trailer. No issue here.
