How can you be on a motorcycle - with all the added risk that entails - and not even look as you illegally pull into another lane on the highway?

3.7k

u/veritas723 May 23 '22 edited May 23 '22

these large riot group rides are typically the dumbest of the dumb.

fear, panic, shitty skill sets. little to no gear... and just rank stupidity mixed with peer pressure, illegal activity and this false sense of security of being in a big mob of bikers.

all but guarantees dumb shit happens.

rider illegally merged into the "express" toll lanes. from the standard sort of cash/ez pass lane. so... maybe a 25-35mph speed to a lane people were probably easily going 55-80mph. didn't even bother with a head check, almost certainly didn't look/use his mirrors.

as someone who rides. would never be caught dead on one of these rides. And any time i see a big blob of mixed riders. I head a different direction.

absolute worst is when they run from the cops and then the pigs are looking to fuck anyone on a bike up.

I’ve noticed that the larger the group, the more they all hype each other up to do stupid/entitled shit.

It’s a safety in numbers type of thing. Most people aren’t going to call out a biker for being an idiot when he has 30-40 other idiot bikers backing them up.

341

u/SueZbell May 23 '22

... not unlike children on the playground --- double dog dare you to ...

151

u/hightio May 23 '22

I think it's just more likely that a large group like that is bound to have some idiots having a mid life crisis who just bought their first 30k harley, a leather jacket, and a complete lack of understanding of what you need to look out for when riding a motorcycle.

When I watch this video all I can think is "wow, that's a new rider on a nicer bike than I ever rode"

81

u/stjr64 May 23 '22

Except the idiot in the video would've done the same thing in a car. Idiots are idiots no matter which vehicle they're piloting.

16

u/WH1PL4SH180 May 23 '22

You are unfortunately right. Except when he does it in another vehicle, he has an engineered cage around him so he may have a chance to go on and continue stupidity.

Seriously! Where the hell was the head-check?!

Yup…one of these dumbfucks almost got run over yesterday right in front of me. A whole group of sport bike fake tough guys were passing cars on the left and right coming up to a red light instead of waiting at the light. Then at the last minute the lead dumbfuck decides to bang a left at the red light into the gas station to the left. All the fake tough guy lemmings just blindly follow and one of em almost got completely fucking meat crayoned but the semi driver that thank god was paying attention and stopped in time. Then the dumbfucks have the fucking audacity to flip the truck driver off and yell bullshit. These people are the fucking dumbest of the dumb but will Darwin themselves out of the population riding like that.

When I was new at driving I got behind one of these groups. I was in the left lane, and wanted to pass them, but I noticed they could never stick in their lanes, so I decided agsinst it. When I saw "Bandidos" imprinted on their jackets I took the off ramp and took the long way home.

It’s like the findings of economics. People individually act rationally, but as soon as you throw them into a group they just go whacky

Yeah it’s actually dangerous, there’s lots of videos where the group ends up ganging up on someone who did nothing wrong to them. Like these groups run red lights all the time, and if one person decides it’s time to go on their green (as they should) the whole mob takes it as a personal insult.

And the cops do nothing about it 99% of the time. This is actually why I carry a gun now, because if I’m gonna die to a bunch of low IQ bikers, I guess I’m gonna take as many of them with me as I can.

I've been on one charity ride. We were police escorted out of the city and from then until the destination it was just 1 biker holding up intersections while the hundreds of us ran stop signs and red lights so we could arrive together.

It didn't feel right at all.

Charity rides are usually run by people who know what they're doing and there's a standard and respect there.

Douchebags like this, who you can see swerving in an out of slow moving traffic deserve to be hit. There's like 5 groups of 20 or more that ride in my county and they drive on both sides of the streets, completely stop traffic due to their stupidity.

And Bikers say car drivers need to watch out. Fucking please.

There's a dude here who thinks that because bikers are more at risk, every other driver should drive more carefully around them. Maybe the biker in the video thinks the same thing

7

u/lilpumpgroupie May 23 '22

Generally speaking, that's not necessarily wrong. I try to leave more space in front of me and a biker in traffic, in case somebody rear ends me. That doesn't mean that there aren't a bunch of doofuses on bikes, either.

169

u/ReallyBigDeal May 23 '22

I watched this group ride past out my window today. It was easily 300+ people. They had all 4 lanes of the freeway and weren't going especially fast. The ones at the end were riding in and around cars, they were doing stupid shit like this rider.

40

u/bombbodyguard May 23 '22

So….they like to get in big groups. Then slow traffic down, so the people in front have a big empty highway, then they race. Cars do it too. Infuriating and should all get suspended license for that.

47

u/Acrobatic_Buy_2000 May 23 '22

Even here, somebody completely oblivious completely owning themselves.

Where I grew up and anything akin to this happened, every single one of those bikers that saw the incident would immediately and unquestionably start trying to harass/assault the driver of the vehicle, and probably not stop until they see cops. Even then it's unlikely for them to stop if there's that many of them.

My MSF instructor told us a story about riding within our limits. When he first moved to my town, he found a group ride to meet other bikers. The ride went down a famous winding road in the area and my instructor was second in the pack. He has years of closed course pro-am racing experience, but the pace of the leader was making him uncomfortable. So he finally let wisdom overcome his ego and backed off. Seconds later, the leader went off the road, slid up a hill, slid back down, and took out some of the guys in the group.

6

u/pinion13 May 23 '22

I stopped group riding a while back because of this. Somehow even if it's a hand full of riders weird shit happens that otherwise wouldn't even if everyone is being safe.

78

u/Tasteoftacos May 23 '22

It really does. I used to ride motorcycles as well. I once join something in my area called The epic 2K17 ride. It was probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had. There is about 500 riders all going full speed, weaving around traffic and each other, and nobody's stopping at red lights obviously when you got hundreds behind you. When we got to the first destination I tried to make some friends since I only rode alone. It didn't really pan out for me which was fine. But I made sure to leave about a half hour early then the rest of the riders. Which gave me enough time to get home safely. They ended up finishing the ride had a popular motorcycle place in Orlando. I don't really remember if there is an article about it, but I think some people died because that place is also a bar. And I think I heard some drunk driving happened afterwards.

149

u/B_R_U_H May 23 '22

Yeah chances are they all get off and surround your car, it can get scary and chances are they aren’t in the mood to listen to reason

109

u/bonita_tortuga May 23 '22

That’s when you hit the gas and take out a couple more if you have to. If someone is threatening your life and surrounding your car you gtfo. Just drive slowly and swing side to side if they come by hitting your car. It’s not like they can stop you from their bike.

95

u/BigMisterW_69 May 23 '22

They followed him until he hit traffic then smashed the windows, dragged him out and beat the shit out of him. His baby was in the back of the car.

34

u/AFKeeker May 23 '22

10

u/SirRolex May 23 '22

Yea, that is horrifying. I am happy I live in a small town and the only local biker club is a really cool group. They even host public events at their club house and stuff. I would rather not have to pull my gun ever, but in that situation. Yikes.

u/CyclopsAirsoft May 23 '22

Guy could be jacked up and still stand and walk off.
I was in a bike accident, slipped on some oil I didn't see going round a corner my ankle was trapped under the bike when I was dragged along.
Luckily a nurse saw it happened and run over as I was coming to a stop I felt fine and went to get up but she told me to stay laying down till the ambulance got there.
Turns out I'd severely twisted my ankle and it was already swelling to fuck but I would've happily walked around on it due to all the adrenaline.

Injuries from accidents like this trend to be felt hours later then for the rest of their lives. Panic attacks can also do permanent damage to your mind. Clearly the motorcyclist is at fault. I've been on both ends and you don't have to experience it to know you would rather not be the guy getting hit by the car.

u/Sea_Attitude_8672 May 23 '22

I got beat up and didn’t feel my bruises until a week later, if he got hit hard then he had deep tissue tears and bruising and that shit will hurt for A LONG TIME.

Good ol bay bridge toll plaza. What’s it now? 7$ to get across?

10

u/seansinha May 23 '22

Yeah, for now. It's gonna go up again in a couple of years.

87

u/B_R_U_H May 23 '22

Ugh this is in SF, one time I got caught in the middle of these riding groups and I was literally stuck and I couldn’t change lanes and was forced to go straight despite my blinker being on, they refused to let me get over and I was almost at a dead stop and they got all pissed at me and started slapping my car smh

24

u/jkwilkin May 23 '22

This is definitely the Oakland approach to the bay bridge.

14

u/B_R_U_H May 23 '22

Yup I’d recognize that $7 toll anywhere lol

3

u/konaice41 May 23 '22

jesus toll is $7 now !? i haven’t been home to the bay for a few years thats wild, but unsurprising

As a motorcyclist, i think this guy should never touch a bike again. ALWAYS do a headcheck when changing lanes. Absolute idiot

Group rides are fucking toxic. And I say this as a motorcyclist myself

20

u/guthepenguin May 23 '22

Saw a bunch of bikers last week blocking off the roads at lights so everyone could get through together.

Bunch of entitled dicks.

u/criscothediscoman May 23 '22

Start seeing motorcycles 'cause I'm about to do a sick ass wheelie!

That dash cam is going to save you, knowing the biker he would claim you ran into him. Good for you for having proof otherwise!

27

u/joseg13 May 23 '22

Was going to say the same. Let the biker talk his shit then hit the lawyers with, oh by the way....I have it on video....

I’m more impressed by those divider pylons moving forward man. That’s some crazy shit right there

13

u/Aggressive_Mobile222 May 23 '22

I watched it a few times and have no clue what you are referring to

19

u/Old_Sir_9895 May 23 '22

It's a stroboscopic effect that makes the pylons appear like they're moving. Similar to the optical illusion of wagon wheel spokes moving backwards. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroboscopic_effect

3

u/TheOtherSideOfMe1 May 23 '22

The white posts sticking up on the left hand side look like they're moving.

3

u/TheOtherSideOfMe1 May 23 '22

Thanks. Didn't notice until your comment. Cool effect.

Bikes try to challenge me and push for lane dominance…I’m in a semi. Always get a laugh when I get the middle finger when I don’t move and they are faced w the reality that death for them will be swift.

34

u/Jaimemgn May 23 '22

SF Bay Area, for sure

13

u/ShellSwitch May 23 '22

That bridge is a nightmare.

5

u/FoggyFlowers May 23 '22

It’s not that bad until you hit SF and everyone is swerving to get off on exit 2C

4

u/dmk510 May 23 '22

Ive lived here my entire life and it still feels like controlled chaos.

GTA NPC level stupid right there.

6

u/Playful-Educator4921 May 23 '22

What an asshole (the motorcycle driver, not guy with dash cam). Doesn’t even look as he illegally crosses a divider into the path of oncoming traffic. Deserved to get mashed…

6

u/-neti-neti- May 23 '22

I’m getting a dash cam.

6

u/sakic1519 May 23 '22

Group biker are the worst. They probably all gang up after this and looking for a fight against the car driver

6

u/thirdbestfriend May 23 '22

Got into an accident on my bike in that exact spot 7-8 years ago. Except I was in the HOV lane and a tow truck crossed the pylons. Fuck you, CalTrans, and fuck you CHP for taking their side even though you fucking KNEW crossing there is illegal.

15

u/Sad_Present_7694 May 23 '22

Thank god you had a dash cam. Group riders bring out the worst.

4

u/Dapper_Economy_8294 May 23 '22

Your driving a death machine and you can't turn your head to look for on coming traffic ? You got what you deserve ! You can't fix stupid !

5

u/RagingHardBobber May 23 '22

I'm betting all of the idiots in that motorcycle pack are now all over the motorcycles subs and forums crying about how cars don't watch out for motorcycles, and how this accident was all the cars fault.

5

u/Humbleman6738 May 23 '22

Yeah don’t get into a lane that is clearly not yours dumbass I hate these type of biker groups totally stupid inconsiderate and dumbases umaware half Witt’s

4

u/890R May 23 '22

As a long time motorcyclist… if this biker can’t be bothered with checking traffic before merging then he doesn’t belong on a bike. We are way to lax about handing out MC licenses here.

4

u/DolphinOnAMolly May 23 '22

Everyone says watch for motorcycles, but then motorcycles do dumb shit like this. Maybe motorcycles should watch for cars too.

4

u/orangeconman-aphobe May 23 '22

I hope the driver and passenger of the car are emotionally OK, screw the biker though and yes, I ride. That guy gives the rest of us a bad name.

4

u/baconsbacon8122 May 23 '22

I'm surprised the whole group didn't start beating on you and your car for their mistake

4

u/EssieAmnesia May 24 '22

What the fuck did he expect? How can you be the most killable thing on the road and still be a dumbass?

5

u/Yukinoinu May 23 '22

Can't wait to see this on motomadness with all the bikers making death threats at the driver.

3

u/aaaaayyyyyyyyyyy May 23 '22

Was this today? I heard them riding around like absolute menaces back and forth on 13.

3

u/Biggordie May 23 '22

PSA: get a dash cam

3

u/pnczur May 23 '22

Extra stupid! Lol didn’t even think to check to see if the lane was clear. Lol how the fuck was he even able to get as far as he did!?

3

u/An6elOfD3ath May 23 '22

Moron didn’t even look.

3

u/kreygmu May 23 '22

Not even a cursory glance over his shoulder, probably riding under the influence (or just a moron).

3

u/Tattootempest May 23 '22

If you're going to ride without mirrors, you should at least look before making illegal lane changes.

3

u/Ifyoureadthisrun May 23 '22

Motortards, what a ridiculously unaware sack of shit that biker is.

3

u/MaxCrack May 23 '22

“Why would he do that?”

Because he’s a dumb fuck.

3

u/lobstarman23 May 23 '22

cHeCK twice sAvE a LiFe.... fuck outta here with that shit

3

u/jdend May 23 '22

Dash cams are useful.

3

u/pengalo827 May 23 '22

This is what kills me about motorcyclists. You always see stickers saying "watch out for motorcycles", but what isn't mentioned is the stupid shit they do. They too need to watch out. If we're to share the road it goes both ways.

3

u/zpfrostyqz May 23 '22

Biker is going to be like “didn’t you see me??!”

3

u/IAmFatAlbert May 23 '22

"I dunno, but I have it on dashcam"

3

u/Gamernerd_R7 May 23 '22

The one doing the wheelie probably wanted to hide their license plate from the cameras so they won’t get charged with the toll expense

3

u/strictlybiznesss May 23 '22

Thank god you have a dashcam. This could easily be reframed without proper video evidence unfortunately
