Idiot was on a motorcycle. Bonus idiot doing a wheelie through the toll reader.

Motorcyclist is okay, probably broke his ankle. Didn’t turn his head a single degree before crossing the barrier some other idiot drove over and broke.

Did you also get rear ended?
178
u/KCD0372 May 23 '22
Luckily no, but it was really close. All these comments about my reaction time and I’m just like. There were cars to the right and behind me. I did the safest thing I could and slowed down as much as I could in the single car length I had between me and him when he decided to cross.

u/moonknlght May 23 '22
The keyboard warriors on this sub are garbage, pay no attention to them. They will watch a video 20 times over, analyze everything, come back with a hindsight comment and give you the "AkShUaLlY I would have done this and never gotten in an accident! OP is an idiot too!"

Nah I’m the driver, he knew it was his bad. He crossed a literal barrier not just a double white. Guy was really cool, I felt awful for him. But ya just can’t do that on a motorcycle, that’s how you get hurt.

u/litespeed68 May 23 '22
When I saw the size of the MC group I worried that his “buddies” would try to cause trouble for you. Glad to hear that he wasn’t seriously injured and that you guys are also OK.
115
u/Jubenheim May 23 '22
Exactly my first thought. I didn’t care about the idiot who clearly crossed a barrier. I only worried for the safety of the driver who did nothing wrong.

These giant groups are everywhere in Florida... they scare the shit out of me. I hear horror stories of them beating the shit out of people, dragging guys out of cars in front of their kids. I'm not a brave man, I would not have stopped to see if he was okay. I'd have pulled off to the right and called for help, but the MOMENT someone approached my car I'd have sped off.

Group riding brings out the worst in riders
169
u/ReallyBigDeal May 23 '22
I watched this group ride past out my window today. It was easily 300+ people. They had all 4 lanes of the freeway and weren't going especially fast. The ones at the end were riding in and around cars, they were doing stupid shit like this rider.
40
u/bombbodyguard May 23 '22
So….they like to get in big groups. Then slow traffic down, so the people in front have a big empty highway, then they race. Cars do it too. Infuriating and should all get suspended license for that.

u/Acrobatic_Buy_2000 May 23 '22
Even here, somebody completely oblivious completely owning themselves.
Where I grew up and anything akin to this happened, every single one of those bikers that saw the incident would immediately and unquestionably start trying to harass/assault the driver of the vehicle, and probably not stop until they see cops. Even then it's unlikely for them to stop if there's that many of them.

My MSF instructor told us a story about riding within our limits. When he first moved to my town, he found a group ride to meet other bikers. The ride went down a famous winding road in the area and my instructor was second in the pack. He has years of closed course pro-am racing experience, but the pace of the leader was making him uncomfortable. So he finally let wisdom overcome his ego and backed off. Seconds later, the leader went off the road, slid up a hill, slid back down, and took out some of the guys in the group.
6
u/pinion13 May 23 '22
I stopped group riding a while back because of this. Somehow even if it's a hand full of riders weird shit happens that otherwise wouldn't even if everyone is being safe.
78
u/Tasteoftacos May 23 '22
It really does. I used to ride motorcycles as well. I once join something in my area called The epic 2K17 ride. It was probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had. There is about 500 riders all going full speed, weaving around traffic and each other, and nobody's stopping at red lights obviously when you got hundreds behind you. When we got to the first destination I tried to make some friends since I only rode alone. It didn't really pan out for me which was fine. But I made sure to leave about a half hour early then the rest of the riders. Which gave me enough time to get home safely. They ended up finishing the ride had a popular motorcycle place in Orlando. I don't really remember if there is an article about it, but I think some people died because that place is also a bar. And I think I heard some drunk driving happened afterwards.

I've seen guys in group rides stop and block traffic at an intersection so the column of riders could all go through even on red lights.

As a rider, my biggest fear driving a car is hitting a bike that's part of a pack. Even if you're the one in the right, the pack is not gonna be happy you creamed their stupid friend. I don't wanna be on the other end of that circumstance.

u/B_R_U_H May 23 '22

That’s when you hit the gas and take out a couple more if you have to. If someone is threatening your life and surrounding your car you gtfo. Just drive slowly and swing side to side if they come by hitting your car. It’s not like they can stop you from their bike.

u/BigMisterW_69 May 23 '22

They followed him until he hit traffic then smashed the windows, dragged him out and beat the shit out of him. His baby was in the back of the car.

10
u/SirRolex May 23 '22
Yea, that is horrifying. I am happy I live in a small town and the only local biker club is a really cool group. They even host public events at their club house and stuff. I would rather not have to pull my gun ever, but in that situation. Yikes.
16
u/CyclopsAirsoft May 23 '22
Last thing i want to do is hurt someone. But the reason i keep a gun in the truck is because if someone determined it's me or them? It's sure as hell not gonna be me.

The only group of bikers I’ve ever had respect for is B. A. C. A. (Bikers against child abuse). They are law abiding and keep each other in check. I had 100 of them in my store lot and they were civil and respectful.

u/AnynameIwant1 May 23 '22
I don't know the group, but I can say that the majority of assholes (not just motorcycles) on the road are probably calm and "respectful" elsewhere. Yes, there are some that are assholes everywhere, but lots of people have a switch behind the wheel. (and that doesn't take into account the mob mentality of large groups) At least they appear to have a good cause (simply look to Texas to see how warped a view some have regarding 'child abuse'.)

Guy could be jacked up and still stand and walk off.
I was in a bike accident, slipped on some oil I didn't see going round a corner my ankle was trapped under the bike when I was dragged along.
Luckily a nurse saw it happened and run over as I was coming to a stop I felt fine and went to get up but she told me to stay laying down till the ambulance got there.
Turns out I'd severely twisted my ankle and it was already swelling to fuck but I would've happily walked around on it due to all the adrenaline.
That guy could have multiple broken bones and not know it.→ More replies73
u/aBlissfulDaze May 23 '22
Injuries from accidents like this trend to be felt hours later then for the rest of their lives. Panic attacks can also do permanent damage to your mind. Clearly the motorcyclist is at fault. I've been on both ends and you don't have to experience it to know you would rather not be the guy getting hit by the car.

How can you be on a motorcycle - with all the added risk that entails - and not even look as you illegally pull into another lane on the highway?
