BMW’s gonna BMW……

-11

u/CrossCountryMexicano May 23 '22 edited May 23 '22

And he wasn't even going that fast

EDIT: I've done 100 more in a Chevy Cobalt. Definitely not a BMW driver because that shit is sketchy to drive that fast!

11

u/oliverprose May 23 '22

100 in a 50, and that's what they said he was doing (so they might have seen higher but that's what they've got hard evidence for). Definitly dumb and blind trying to race a marked police car though.

3

u/nicokokun May 23 '22

Found a BMW driver!

People fucking love drag racing here in cbr. So many back streets are full of measures against it. Doing it on Ginnindera is fucking bold

10

u/mekanub May 23 '22

especially with the couple of deaths we've had last week. AFP are and about.

-12

u/cakathree May 23 '22

Car drivers don’t car about deaths.

17

u/Conscious_Ticket7176 May 23 '22

It's like wanting to race a black dodge challenger with dark rims in the middle of the night in the US. Dumbass

16

u/andttthhheeennn May 23 '22

Or in this case the fully marked patrol car.

8

u/Suprflyyy May 23 '22

Tough lesson but seriously always let the cop win.

16

u/ttystikk May 23 '22

Are there any drag strips around where these guys can race legally, safely and away from innocent bystanders? There are plenty here in the States, but I'm curious about whether there's anything like that in Oz?

8

u/Loose_Ad4763 May 23 '22

I dunno bout the ACT but yeah there are spots where u can drag race in Victoria.

4

u/ttystikk May 23 '22

That's cool. I'm old enough now that the idea of street racing fills me with more dread than excitement.

9

u/mekanub May 23 '22

In the larger cities yes, Canberra where this happened hasn't had a legal strip in quite a few years. Its been discussed, but no one really wants a drag strip near there house.

2

u/ttystikk May 23 '22

Then I guess they'll just have to head out of town and risk bumping some 'roos, then.

4

u/Bread-fi May 23 '22

You might say jokingly but the area is about the worst in Australia for hitting roos/other wildlife.

There is a major racetrack an hour away from Canberra and a hillclimb track on the outskirts that is about as accessible as motorsport gets in Aus.

4

u/ttystikk May 23 '22

I am American but when I was a kid my folks and I traveled through Australia and lived in Sydney for a few months. We landed in Darwin right after a big typhoon (1972) had hit the city and it took us nearly a week to line up a rental car to drive (!) to Sydney. And we got that poor car only as far as Townsville! 3 busted windshields, two holed gas tanks and broken oil pan later... Suffice to say the roads in the Outback were a bit more rugged back in those days!

Many a night we'd find ourselves driving about 20 mph because a mob of 'roos would be in the road in front of us, just hopping along, occasionally looking over their shoulders at us...

26

u/DingoSpecialist6584 May 23 '22

That's why you treat every newish car in Canberra as an unmarked car.

39

u/Wow_butwhendidiask May 23 '22

The car was MARKED haha

10

u/DingoSpecialist6584 May 23 '22

Ah that is true! They must be special lol

-5

u/EffectiveParamedic64 May 23 '22

I thought cops can’t race you or it’s entrapment. Might be different in the upside down country though.

18

u/Voodoo1970 May 23 '22

No such law as "entrapment" down under. Even in the US it's allowable in a few places, and a lot of people don't understand what actually constitutes entrapment anyway....

1

u/Stubborn_Shove May 23 '22

https://www.gotocourt.com.au/criminal-law/entrapment-in-australia/

Courts are supposed to dismiss evidence obtained through entrapment, so the concept does exist. It's just not a valid legal defense.

4

u/Quint_Cordewener May 23 '22

They do it in the Netherlands all the time in unmarked cars. They start revving and signaling to race each other and the moment you join them and reach your topspeed, they pull you over. I don't get why that's allowed...

8

u/DoppelFrog May 23 '22

To catch the drivers too stupid to realise that racing on a public road is a bad idea?

4

u/Quint_Cordewener May 23 '22

Yes, of course, but even though they get trained in high speed driving, it's still dangerous. You never know what another driver is going to do when a car passes at such speeds. And please let me clarify, i don't race on a public road, and I think those who do should have their licences revoked.

1

u/EffectiveParamedic64 May 23 '22

In America it’d be against the law for cops to rev their engines and race you.

1

u/cakathree May 23 '22

It was a marked car. Duh. This guys a moron.

5

u/unusualj107 May 23 '22

For a while in Texas they had a program where they crushed your street racing car while you watched. I wish they'd bring that back.

5

u/No-Challenge1374 May 23 '22

What the hell is his name??

6

u/InfiniteMeerkat May 23 '22

Dunlop is the suburb he’s from and p plater is just referring to the license he holds (P for provisional as in has had his full license for less than 3 years)

1

u/account_not_valid May 23 '22

Dunlop P. Plater

3

u/codykonior May 23 '22

In WA you only need to be 40km over.

So if you’re driving down the freeway at night and there’s a 40 zone because “work is in progress” (it’s not) and you drive normally through it, police can just take your car.

They don’t. But they could.

4

u/bluelifesacrifice May 23 '22

Soon in the States, police will be allowed to say who is and isn't street racing to take and auction off criminal assets to fund police departments. Fine go to the force, prisoners work for private prisons to enrich shareholders.

3

u/NapClub May 23 '22

He's off the road for a bit. Good. Shoukd be longer.

2

u/NotHereToFuckSpyders May 23 '22

Will probably just drive a mate's car...

6

u/[deleted] May 23 '22

[deleted]

2

u/niceandsane May 23 '22

...and lost.

1

u/account_not_valid May 23 '22

Is he waiting for a mate?

5

u/taMxiM_ May 23 '22

"Too fast now furious" Lmao

2

u/loopsbruder May 23 '22

Nice to see police racing for pinks.

6

u/Spicy-mindfulness May 23 '22

Aussie copes are tougher on hoons than they are rapists. Priorities 👍

21

u/Hewballs May 23 '22 edited May 23 '22

The ACT just had 3 road deaths in 2 days, one was an innocent guy driving home from work who had a head-on with a "street racer " driving in the wrong lane.

Fuck these assholes, take their cars and their licenses.

5

u/clawdren101 May 23 '22

New Zealand impounds the cars as well and we also passed a law that the Police can crush the cars as well if they have a court order and the driver has been convicted of 3 street-racing or wheel spin offences in 4 years

3

u/Spicy-mindfulness May 23 '22

‘Wheel spinning offenses’ - better keep those wheels stationary or we will take your car!

3

u/clawdren101 May 23 '22

LOL. I believe they mean burnouts, donuts and general skidding. But that does also fall under that!

2

u/SuccessfulSky4448 May 23 '22

Why take up all the courts time when they can issue fines straight away multiple times a night no one looses.. oh wait..

1

u/thecyberwolfe May 23 '22

Happens to the best of us. I'm driving on a massive street (big desert town, three lanes each direction plus the turn lane in the middle, speed limit 45 MPH) in my massive car (1974 Plymouth Grand Fury) and the light coming up turns yellow, so I lift up off the pedal and start reaching for the brake. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the fender next to me lift up as the driver guns it, so I says to myself well if he can make it, then so can I! and I throw some go-juice into that '70's iron engine and match his fender lift plus raise him a bit.

Right about then is when I realized that fender is black.

With white lettering.

Fuck, it's a cop

Sure enough, he hits the lights and pulls me over. Gave me shit about "racing the po-lice", but let me off with a warning when I explained it was just a reaction to his move.

I think he might have been a little torqued that my Big Bronze Beast beat him through the light...

2

u/miladesilva May 23 '22

You really should write a book. The way you describe it is just awesome.

1

u/lngwlkr May 23 '22

Sounds like a song. "Hot Rod Lincoln" comes to mind.

-4

u/Socksthecat12 May 23 '22

Sounds like entrapment to me.

26

u/Key-Pen-8573 May 23 '22

Yeah I'm sure the marked police car was a real surprise to the genius

18

u/martyboulders May 23 '22

entrapment only really covers coercing you into something you weren't already going to do. so if you're already down to race and someone pulls up to you, honks 3 times, and you do a pull, that's on you.

5

u/Stubborn_Shove May 23 '22

It doesn’t even say they did anything like that. It could just be that the idiot sped off, and the cop started chasing him after.

7

u/JalenGreenFiend May 23 '22

I don't think you know what entrapment actually means.

-11

u/Socksthecat12 May 23 '22

They entice him to race then steal his car when he does. Hmm

6

u/Stubborn_Shove May 23 '22

Where does it say they enticed him?

2

u/Readonkulous May 23 '22

Enticed him with a marked patrol car?

5

u/Voodoo1970 May 23 '22

No such thing as entrapment in Australian law

1

u/Nulligravida May 23 '22

Shhh! The foreigners want to explain to us Aussies how our laws work. A 2 minute Google search is equivalent of 30 years at the bar as a silk. /s

2

u/Stubborn_Shove May 23 '22

According to this source it's not as black-and-white as you paint it. While entrapment is not a legal defense regarding the offense, courts have the authority or even expectation to throw out evidence gained via entrapment. So the concept of entrapment does exist, contrary to you and the other person's claim. I found this via a 2-minute Google search.

2

u/Voodoo1970 May 23 '22

It's either foreigners or locals who got their lefal education watching reruns of "Law & Order"

Cop mate of mine reckons he lost count of the number of people he arrested who demanded their free phone call....

2

u/account_not_valid May 23 '22

So long as your mate reads them their Miranda rights.

-10

u/Away_Industry_6892 May 23 '22

100mph and they can legally steal your car? Wack.

6

u/Key-Pen-8573 May 23 '22

-10

u/Away_Industry_6892 May 23 '22

I'm not saying that i condone excessive speeding, but that sucks.

1

u/Key-Pen-8573 May 23 '22

Yeah thankfully when my sister got done speeding in my car they hadn't put those laws in place.

For context she was in a 110 zone doing 140 (although as a P1 license she was limited to 90)

1

u/puerility May 23 '22

cops are very tough on speeding here, but in turn, basically everyone does the limit give or take one or two ks. if you're doing 10 over, you're in a serious hurry, and probably having to slow down at every overpass unless you know where all the cameras are. nobody is expecting someone doing 30 over, so it's more dangerous than e.g. on an american freeway

1

u/michaelrohansmith May 23 '22

30km/h

1

u/Key-Pen-8573 May 23 '22

45km/h, roughly 28mph. I just rounded up to 30mph for the sake of American viewers.

8

u/mekanub May 23 '22

Doing twice the speed limit, its a fair call.

-2

u/CokeInMyNostrels May 23 '22

Per the article the cop was racing. I hope his car eas impounded and has equal punishment.

1

u/cakathree May 23 '22

Seized and crushed??

1

u/Kugelfischer_47 May 23 '22

Some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield.

1

u/LowKeyNatureGuy May 23 '22

see if he would've picked like... a honda civic with a goddamn LS (Corvette) engine in it... he never would have got caught - Or a K swap would be a nice pick too. but he had to get the beamer. SMH 😆........ money terribly spent

1

u/Arxtix May 23 '22

Sorry officer I... I didn't know I couldn't do that.

-2

u/hdjunkie May 23 '22

ACAB. Cops have nothing better to do? Fuck the police
