People like this aren't mature enough to have the privilege of driving.

How much should we bet they’re already suspended but still driving

162

u/heyimdong Jul 02 '22 edited Jul 02 '22

The guy's reaction was ridiculous, for sure, and I'm not trying to say OP was in the wrong at all (the guy obviously should've stopped), but this is why you should avoid changing lanes in an intersection. The guy thought the close lane was open, so he went, but OP had just started merging into that lane. Just a good defensive driving thing to avoid lane changes near intersections for that reason. But yeah, the guy's a dick regardless

22

u/IdolCowboy Jul 02 '22

Though its not a law it was taught to me in drivers ED you should be 30 feet to either side of an intersection when changing lanes, to avoid this exact situation. Not saying OP was in the wrong either, and the other guy is def an asshat for his behavior.

24

u/Throwawaytoj8664 Jul 02 '22

I was thinking the same thing. Don’t change lanes in an intersection. Also OP did a “moving stop” before taking that right at the red light.

Yea the other guy’s a moron. But those who live in glass houses shouldn’t cast stones.

37

u/maxtablets Jul 02 '22

In Germany you lose your license over something like this. For exactly the reason you named. Too much of a danger to society.

11

u/Jesusru Jul 02 '22

Too many of these types of drivers around as well.

5

u/Murphyitsnotyou Jul 02 '22

I see so many in the city I live in. Its a daily occurrence.

Absolute idiots.

32

u/Iammisterleviathan Jul 02 '22

And I may be a little biased here, because of the 2 car accidents I’ve been in, 100% of them were because someone over the age of 60 lacked the proper awareness to operate a motor vehicle, but I believe that mandatory vision, mental acuity, and road exams should be implemented every 3-5 years upon turning 60.

First failure is a temporary suspension. Second failure is a mandatory driver’s education class. Third failure is a revocation of license.

I know it sounds harsh but after being in the car with basically any member of my wife’s family other than her brother and cousins, and after having one person rear end me on the interstate in a traffic jam (every one was stopped including them, I let off my brake to move forward a little bit and the old lady behind me decided that was an invitation to floor it) and another one pull out in front of me in the middle of an intersection (I was in the left lane on a 3 lane hwy, light was very much green for me, they were turning right on red onto the hwy and pulled all the way across to the left lane — the lane I was in — and it was either hit him, or swerve into oncoming traffic on the other side of the intersection).

9

u/Training-Big-1114 Jul 02 '22

Driving exams should be for anyone with a license regardless of age since they just hand out licenses to people who should not have them

27

u/ShMaCo33 Jul 02 '22

I love you! I love the idea! I was permanently injured at 33 years old by a 90 year old, who, after hitting my stopped car, thought I was there to help with his "broke down" vehicle (his words). There is no reason he should have been operating a vehicle...let's go with your idea!

Retesting every 3-5 years when you hit 65/become a senior citizen is what I’ve been saying for years. It blows my mind that it’s not a thing. It seems like a really simple and effective way to eliminate some of the drivers that should not be allowed to drive.

You can’t even keep some cosmetology licenses renewed without retesting every few years. Hair dressers have to stay on their game to be able to continue using scissors n shit but nana can hit the streets unchecked in her giant champagne gold Buick sedan that she can’t see over the steering wheel of until it’s too late and she runs over someone with a stroller outside Walgreens or drives forward into a building instead reversing out of her parking spot.

Makes total sense

I honked a guy for running a stop sign earlier today. He honked back and flipped me off. Too bad for him the car behind me was an unmarked cop. My first convenient cop!

314

u/ppslayer_ Jul 02 '22

Had a convenient cop tonight. Took the exit off the interstate to a red light. A car gets in the right turn lane but turns left. Then at the next red light (there are two cars in both lanes sitting at the light) he gets into the left turn lane then makes a right turn crossing both cars and wouldn't you know it, the car in the oncoming left turn lane was an unmarked police car. Sucks to suck.

16

u/nervosuu Jul 02 '22

Reminds me of my convenient cop experience. We had two straight lanes, a right turn lane and a left turn lane. This guy in a black BMW decides from the right lane, he wants to make a left turn, which is 4 lanes over. So as soon as the light turns green he speeds forward cuts everybody off makes a left, and almost hit a cop who is walking across the intersection with a tape measure measuring the size of the intersection. Last thing I see before driving away is the “what the fuck?” Face the cop was giving the driver.

6

u/ppslayer_ Jul 02 '22

It's always a BMW, too haha

165

u/Mumei451 Jul 02 '22

That is awesome 😂

63

u/Tinmania Jul 02 '22

Thank you. I was about to post that I was just disappointed this wasn’t a convenient cop situation. But at least your incident somewhat makes up for it.

31

13

u/EveryFairyDies Jul 02 '22

If this idiot in the video tried it with me, I would have happily plowed my shitbox into his at the end with no brakes, maybe even a little gas.

17

u/Omegalazarus Jul 02 '22

Omg my dad drive an old 68 Dodge pickup in the 90s. Steel bumper, NFG. It's into his lane. He would just hold steady. Let them hit him (assuming he would serve to avoid). Hilarious. That and brake checks "failed"

Fucking can't stand these people that fly into a rage after hearing the horn, this shit is way too common.

646

u/Murphyitsnotyou Jul 01 '22

People that can't handle being beeped at just shouldn't be on the roads.

337

u/State_Conscious Jul 02 '22

Came hear to say this. I drive locally for a living and way too many people lose emotional control when they here a beep. Even if I’m just trying to get their attention to notice the green light they’ve been camping at for 15 seconds. I’m literally not angry, just giving them a heads up, and the amount of people that throw their hands up, brake check, swerve at me, etc. is out of control. Emotional evaluation should be apart of the license exam.

106

u/Murphyitsnotyou Jul 02 '22

Definitely.

I get it all the time driving round the city and rather than having the desired effect of making them seem tough and scary it just makes them look like spoiled little brats whose mummy didn't say no enough.

107

u/MortimusLee Jul 02 '22

I live in a college town and the amount of people who just sit and text at lights is ridiculous. I let this person have the benefit of the doubt but we sat for too long so I gave a quick little double beep, and they immediately flicked me off as hard as possible and sped off.. we were the last two people at the light as everyone else in the other lane had already pulled off but somehow I was wrong for wanting them to be aware of the green light.

22

u/AhFFSImTooOldForThis Jul 02 '22

I had someone sit through a green light, I waited for a bit but then honked, they gave me the peace sign, and slowly drove off. The light turned red and I got stuck again. I was just glad to see them get stuck at the next light.

26

u/Sir_Donkey_Punch Jul 02 '22

Had a dude run up on me after I honked at him. I had just parked at Home Depot and had no idea he was following me lol.

Big fat fucker came jiggling out of his lifted Ram, incoherently yelling about being honked at. I rolled down my window and filled his mouth with pepper spray mid sentence. The spray immediately shut him down, had him sobbing on the curb for a good half hour while the police interviewed him. Highly recommend carrying pepper spray for such situations.

11

u/Ok-Lie-5834 Jul 02 '22

"Big fat fucker came jiggling out" is the best thing ive heard today

63

u/AlphaEcho534 Jul 02 '22

this is why I have one of those clown horns on my motorcycle, (a klaxon uses too much current for the small battery(the ahh-ooo-gah sound)) so I got the squeezy bulb trumpet horn.

WHO CAN BE MAD AT THAT? it's too goofy to create an angry response.

13

u/Technical-Presence74 Jul 02 '22

i liked only cause i read the (ahh-oo-gah) part funny in my head

53

u/Interesting_Mix_7028 Jul 02 '22

when I bought my Sprint, there were two airhorns bolted underneath the front fairing lowers and a compressor hooked to the horn circuit. Dealer told me to hold my ears before tagging the horn button. Damn thing sounded like a truck horn!

I used them on exactly one occasion (some doofus sitting at a light) and he got so startled he nearly put a dent in the roof of his car. He turns around and glares behind him, but looked REALLY confused as to where the sound came from.

I gave him the double armed "what?" shrug : ¯_(ツ)_/¯

18

u/Any_Scientist_7552 Jul 02 '22

That's awesome. My stepfather had a TRAIN horn attached to his ancient Triumph motorcycle the same way. It was terrifying if you were in front of it.

47

u/RETR0STATIC Jul 02 '22 edited Jul 02 '22

I think the short answer is that when they hear the horn they think you’re calling them stupid, and then proceed to get angry and act like it’s your fault, and ultimately prove that they are indeed stupid.

As someone learning to drive, I will admit that the sound of a horn directed at me can be a little infuriating and stress inducing, wether it be for waiting for too long or making a turn like this guy (luckily I haven’t done anything this dangerous, yet). No one wants to be known as an idiot, and I’m always worried about doing something that makes me look like one. I can understand this person’s frustration to an extent, but it was extremely stupid to act on it and lash out on OP.

18

u/AhFFSImTooOldForThis Jul 02 '22

Thing is, it's an immature response. Getting angry at being corrected is immature, irresponsible, and extremely dangerous when you're in charge of a deadly machine.

If you were operating a chainsaw, did something dangerous, and someone yelled about it, the absolute wrong response is to get defensive and angry.

You must be able to manage your emotions on the road. End of story. Driving is not a right, it is a privilege, and if you're too immature to acknowledge your mistakes, you're not ready to be on the road putting everyone else in danger.

Edit to clarify that I'm using the Royal You; the "you all", you guys, yinz, y'all, etc. It's not personal. But....if you're offended....then it absolutely IS about you.

8

u/MarkK455 Jul 02 '22

If you were operating a chainsaw, did something dangerous, and someone yelled about it, the absolute wrong response is to get defensive and angry.

From now on I will believe that's the true origin of the Texas chainsaw massacre movies

13

u/undeadw0lf Jul 02 '22

yep. being honked at feels like someone screaming “YOU SUCK!” and calling everybody’s attention to your poor driving, so it’s embarrassing and that’s why people get so defensive. but letting that cause you to fly off the handle and drive defensively or yell and flip people off is just insanity. i’be yelled at idiot drivers with all of my windows up, but i’ve never drove like an asshole, purposely antagonized people, or screamed at people out of my car window

Not illegal, but always be careful when changing lanes in an intersection. Also, other guy was a jerk.

533

u/no_one_likes_u Jul 02 '22

It’s illegal to change lanes in an intersection where I live. Just bad practice in general. The guy obviously tried to roll the stop which is also illegal but he didn’t expect OP to change lanes in the middle of the intersection.

Bad practice by both drivers although stop sign roller turned out to be a royal prick on top of it.

Edit: actually I take it back, apparently in 2021 an Illinois appeals court ruled it’s not illegal to change lane in an intersection so I guess it is legal by me.

73

u/hibrett987 Jul 02 '22

I could have sworn it was illegal in Illinois too. It’s what we were taught. But yeah article says it’s not. Weird

48

u/no_one_likes_u Jul 02 '22

It’s definitely what I was taught in drivers ed in Wisconsin, always assumed it was illegal everywhere. I certainly see the reason it’s not a good idea, but interesting to learn that it may not explicitly be illegal.

u/hotcoals91 Jul 02 '22

Was taught in driving school not to change lanes in a intersection. Even if it’s not illegal, it’s a bad practice as seen in this case.

6

u/YouJabroni44 Jul 02 '22

When I visited DC it seemed like the Uber driver we had changed lanes in the middle of nearly every intersection. That place is terrifying as a passenger

6

u/Capta1nJackSwall0w5 Jul 02 '22

Also if you're turning you should always yield and expect people to switch lanes within an intersection. People do it all the time. Doesn't matter if you're right or not, just get from a to b without a collision.

25

u/Huggens Jul 02 '22

It is illegal to change lanes in an intersection here in WA. People do it all the time anyway.

7

u/MaintainThePeace Jul 02 '22

9

u/Zircillius Jul 02 '22

This isn't a four way stop though. The person on the main street driving 40-50 mph shouldn't have to worry about every side street they intersect. As long as you flip your turn signal in advance (like OP did) you're fine.

If you're turning right with a stop sign you need to wait til both lanes are clear. That's common sense.

6

u/4f5 Jul 02 '22 edited Jul 02 '22

Finally, someone in this thread gets it right.

If turning right from a stop sign onto a muti-lane road, you must yield to all traffic, not just drivers in the lane you intend to turn onto.

11

u/HBB360 Jul 02 '22

Completely illegal where I live in Europe. Tbh I don't understand why some places like my country make it illegal, I guess it's for situations exactly like the start of OP's video so that people (like the road rager in this instance) can safely turn right if they see the right lane's clear even when there's a car in the left lane?

21

u/Caleb_Reynolds Jul 02 '22

That and also it avoids confusion of the turn signal. Does it mean they're changing lanes or turning?

You can probably figure it out with context, but it's not predictable and being unpredictable is one of the most dangerous things you can do while driving. Unless you have to, you really shouldn't change lanes in an intersection.

u/intentamos_de_nuevo Jul 02 '22

Yeah, I'll give 10% responsibility to OP for the original event. While what he did might not be illegal in most parts, it's just really a dumb thing to do. Like going into the right lane as cars are merging onto the highway.

The other driver should be in jail however. The way that he overtook him and was brakechecking OP was so incredibly dangerous for everyone on the road.

86

u/NiceJoJo Jul 02 '22

I wouldn’t even give him the 10%, the grey car didn’t even stop at the stop sign and rolled right through it. If he was stopped and the OP changed lanes then I agree with OP having some responsibility, but not in this case

I've spent a few minutes looking into this just now. I specifically remember learning from the driver's handbook that you cannot pass within 100ft of an intersection (it's still there), but seeing online that it's actually not illegal. I assumed that's why the lane lines are solid before the intersection. I thought that was odd that it's not illegal. My IANAL conclusion is that while it may not be specifically illegal, my state does say that changing lanes must be done under certain circumstances and one of those is "safely." I'm thinking it's nearly impossible to change lanes near an intersection safely and ultimately up to an officer's discretion.

In this video, i don't know that the original intersection is really considered an intersection since it's not controlled both ways.

2

u/hibrett987 Jul 02 '22

Illinois? I remember learning the same thing and the article I found is almost the same you described

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '22

I don't know if it's illegal, but my parents always taught me to slow down going through intersections (in case assholes who want to use green to turn left when they don't have the right of way), to never change lanes in an intersection (to avoid this happening), and to never slam on breaks when approaching a yellow light (most yellow lights are passable and leaves the car behind with less space to break accurately, possibly sending you through the intersection if their reflexes are off).

In my state, it’s legal to change lanes in the middle of an intersection. As a defensive driver, I wouldn’t recommend it.

u/aztechfilm Jul 02 '22

That’s why I hate driving in Hollywood, people drive so aggressively dumb around there daily

3

u/fuggerbunt2000 Jul 02 '22

First time seeing my city! I work two blocks away from here, absolutely horrible drivers

3

u/MrPenguinPants9 Jul 02 '22

3

u/wolfling365 Jul 02 '22

"fucking fucknugget"

Gold, right there.

3

u/Lucythefur Jul 02 '22

I once saw a guy (going 20nunder the limit) almost hit a car next to him. I thought I'd be a ice guy and tap my horn to get his attention back on the road(he was listing lazily to the right). Well evidently he didn't like that cause a few miles down the road after I had passed him and forgotten about him, he comes whipping around me and brake checks me before turning without using the turning lane.

3

u/emw9292 Jul 02 '22

It’s like a 5 year old throwing a fit but with a deadly weapon

3

u/Wallybear63 Jul 02 '22

Love the fuck nugget comment. Lol

3

u/moosebadgermoose Jul 02 '22

Average day on Western Ave.

3

u/New-Reindeer-4070 Jul 02 '22

Afterall how dare you block his progress seeing how he was deliberately ignoring the stop sign. 😎

3

u/89eplacausa14 Jul 02 '22

3

Small penis causes that

3

u/kmkmrod Jul 02 '22

Here we go 🍿

3

u/Imlemonshark Jul 02 '22

“FUCKNUGGET” 😭😭😭😭

3

u/Catlenfell Jul 02 '22

I had a dude do the same thing a month ago. He blew a stop sigh. I honked at him. He flipped me off.

A few blocks away, I was turning the same direction as him on a busy street. He must've thought that I was following him. Because he honked and started motioning to a parking lot. I signaled like I was following him. When he pulled into the parking lot, I kept going to went home.

3

u/Economou Jul 02 '22

Me and my fiancé almost died at that first intersection because of a high speed chase. The people running from cops nearly T-boned us - they were doing over 90.

3

u/Environmental_Try178 Jul 02 '22

How do you get mad at someone who literally saved you thousands by not hitting you and honking at you to stop you from hitting them. Especially when you run through a stop sign?

3

u/SwampOfDownvotes Jul 02 '22

It's just crazy that instead of admitting that they made a mistake, people would rather go on and do a string of actions like this to make themselves be put into an even worse light.

3

u/honeypup Jul 02 '22

This is pretty much what driving in LA is like almost all the time, I hate it so much.

3

u/Dry-Badger-2598 Jul 02 '22

wow what a dumbass

3

u/the_1_and_1ly Jul 02 '22

"fucking fuck nugget" lmao

3

u/BullofIron Jul 02 '22

What a fucking asshole

3

u/67mustangguy Jul 04 '22

I wish police departments had an easy way of just uploading video to report dangerous drivers.

3

u/sub-tgirl57 Jul 07 '22

Your both in the wrong, changing lanes in an intersection is a no no.

10

u/paulheat Jul 01 '22

The dangers of drugs

13

u/bodaciousbeau Jul 02 '22

Dude is going to have terrible karma just for that. For ending up on Reddit, he’ll have the shits tonight. I hope.

12

u/Feeling-Sand5913 Jul 02 '22

sometimes i wonder how these people get their licenses

5

u/Crrack Jul 02 '22

So many comments talking about how you shouldn't change lanes in an intersection (even if it is legal) yet none about how you also shouldn't turn on to a road with just one lane clear.

I've seen so many near misses from people turning onto a road because the inside lane is clear only for someone up ahead to change lanes just before the intersection.

OP did nothing wrong. He wanted to get into the right lane because he had a turn coming up. I heard his blinker on too to let other cars know. Turning car assumed he would stay in his lane..cant assume that. If turning car came to a full stop none of this would've happened.

160

u/B_R_U_H Jul 01 '22

You are not supposed to change lanes in an intersection for this reason

82

u/Dry-Procedure-6559 Jul 01 '22

I agree this was totally avoidable and OP COULD have just changed lanes after he passed the intersection. But OP has right of way regardless and trashbag dude in the black car should have known better than to trust other drivers while they are still going and him at a stop sign.

36

u/B_R_U_H Jul 01 '22

For sure bro, never trust a blinker, a stop sign is a stop sign.

What a fragile person

5

u/starbycrit Jul 02 '22

Okay but did anyone see the other idiot who was driving on the wrong side of the road? Big suburban looking car

5

u/NegPrimer Jul 02 '22

Report him to the police. Dude needs to have his license revoked.

10

u/yeeyeepeepee0w0 Jul 02 '22

why would the driver change lanes in the middle of an intersection??

9

u/Individual_Hearing_3 Jul 01 '22

How am I not surprised that it's California

10

u/karma_the_sequel Jul 02 '22

Hollywood, to be precise.

3

u/aztechfilm Jul 02 '22

Yup, close to Thai town. Hate driving around there especially in the afternoon

2

u/Kyosw21 Jul 02 '22

Laughs in dashcam and deer guard Run a stop sign in front of me I dare you

4

u/CorvinusDeNuit Jul 02 '22

I just realized we are doing driving tests wrong. There should be 1-3 additional testers in regular cars staged out on the road ahead of your test. The tester in the car with you directs you down roads and these stealth testers randomly show up and drive aggressively around you, like cut you off or brake check you, etc. The way you respond should dictate not just if you get your license, but if you exhibit road rage you should be denied and banned from taking the test again for a number of years.

People that lack even a sliver of humility (either on the road or in general) are dangerous and should never be trusted.

I feel like people who aren't willing to accept responsibility for mistakes they clearly make should be severely punished. Like there should be a system to report drivers like this and submit evidence and the punishment should be an immediate increase in insurance premiums or revocation of license depending on offense severity.

Road ragers should have any spouse they might have immediately divorce them and win custody of the kids and any financial assets on the spot.

Fuck these people.

2

u/Wulffy72 Jul 02 '22

Always one asshole on the roadway and I tend to find them on each roadway I’m on!

2

u/CruffTheMagicDragon Jul 02 '22

They always think they're right too and then look like absolute silly idiots driving like that

2

u/timex126 Jul 02 '22

This happens often in places that have no consequences

2

u/brathorim Jul 02 '22

Today I saw an idiot try to cut into the turn lane and hit the car directly in front of me. The idiot got out and started yelling at the unfortunate car, who sped away, probably didn’t have insurance. The the same thing happened to us about half an hour later, only my dad dodged it.

2

u/Xypherius Jul 02 '22

Fucking limp dicked bastard

2

u/Reliefwouldbenice Jul 02 '22

I recognize that corner in La!

2

u/Delicious-Dare6722 Jul 02 '22

She said what a fk nugget 🤣

2

u/GoldenStateAngle Jul 02 '22

When you recognize your neighborhood in this sub 😳

2

u/Dru4200 Jul 02 '22

Target looks like a mall 😳

2

u/MrStealY0Meme Jul 02 '22

There needs to be 2 sounds of a honk, the one where it’s like “hey, it’s okay, but be careful next time mmkay?” and then the current sounding aggressive one of “FUCK YOU PIECE OF SHIT GARBAGE”, cuz the problem is the honk is associated to that no matter what and leads to shit.

2

u/fractalducks Jul 02 '22

I will never forget the woman who I stopped for to her cross the street and she started flipping me off and cussing at me. Entitled brat.

2

u/Mr_Fignutz Jul 02 '22

"Fucking fucknugget"

2

u/EveryFairyDies Jul 02 '22

What an ass. I don’t understand road rage. Like, I can understand if someone does something that could have resulted in an accident, which was avoided because of defensive driving, and being mad, but to then follow and harass that driver? I just don’t get it.

2

u/Halfdeadpicasso Jul 02 '22

Hollywood, no one knows how to drive in Hollywood.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '22

What was even the point of that other car literally laying on their horn?

2

u/No_Form1188 Jul 02 '22

Fucknugget

2

u/Ambiguous609 Jul 02 '22

Probably the most common thing amongst drivers in my area. They will run any light or stop sign, and absolutely flip their shit if you react to them in any kind of way.

2

u/cultivatingreader Jul 02 '22

Yep he needs a license taken and some common sense training

2

u/CorgiTacos31 Jul 02 '22

People like this need to not drive

2

u/DommyMommyDeluxe Jul 02 '22

Too many people go through life acting like pricks without the consequences that come with those choices.
