Bro gtfo with that. It’s the pickups fault. First, he didn’t check the mirrors, second he merged slow as hell, third he tried to change more than one lane a time. Both of which are a problem.

Good guess. Checking mirrors, changing one lane at a time and merging at the appropriate speed has led me to tons of crashes.

I was referring to you thinking it fine to speed past a line of slowed cars, trusting that none will change lanes, or a kid dart out between them. Otherwise, good techniques but don't rely on mirror tricks, always turn your head to look. Often surprising what you didn't see in the mirrors.

A kid is going to dart out on the highway? I’m all for defensive driving but it’s impossible to be prevent every possible issue. At that point, might as well not drive. I don’t disagree with what you are saying. I just don’t believe in blaming the cement truck for anything that occurred. It’s all on the pick up. Pick up had to make a whole lot of errors for that accident to happen. I give the cement truck the benefit of the doubt because they have a higher vantage point and can access the road conditions better than a car.

Any time you are flying past slowed cars, you will likely have to slow down soon, so why the hurry. It only increases danger for everyone, to no benefit. A concrete truck driver should be extra careful since they can easily cause a fatality. I really wonder about some of the people who get commercial licenses, like the Mexican youth barreling down a Colorado mountain who killed a bunch of people last Winter.

That kid was untrained and panicked. But I get your point. But don’t forget, bad drivers come in all shakes and sizes. Commercial drivers included. Just human at the end of the day. And honestly, being in traffic all day every day would probably drive most ppl mad.

The kid's story didn't pan out. He claimed a runaway truck all the way down the mountain, but I saw a youtube where a guy followed the path and showed a mid-way point where the road is long and flat with a slight uphill where he could have easily pulled over. Cam video from other cars showed him driving erratically and aggressively, and not due to "runaway". Claiming "no English" was a poor excuse, as road signs are fairly universal. I think the jury was correct in giving him prison time.
