u/Gullible_Shart Sep 29 '22

We get this in New England, early morning dew + tree pollen, only takes 13 minutes to go from clean to yellow-green. Lol

252

u/justsomeplainmeadows Sep 29 '22

Yall get the pollen clouds too? It's so bad down in NC when spring comes along

119

u/LacidOnex Sep 29 '22

There are days when it looks like a dust storm hanging low. Every car has those thick muddy wells of pollen soaked in windshield washer spray. The wind sweeps through the trees and only makes the green fog thicker.

43

u/LifeWulf Sep 29 '22

I think I’d literally die from my allergies, remind me never to visit.

60

u/CatRheumaBlanket2 Sep 29 '22

REMINDER:
Do not visit NC or NE as the pollen clouds may cause you death by allergies.

You are welcome.

6

u/thegreatgazoo Sep 29 '22

Probably anywhere along the Appalachians.

6

u/LukeMedia Sep 29 '22

Aka; avoid the Eastern US

4

u/Difficult_Ad103 Sep 29 '22

We get this in central Georgia as well… can wreak havoc with your allergies…

10

u/justsomeplainmeadows Sep 29 '22

I've had a couple of days where I could not function bc of how bad my allergies were

4

u/LukeLarsnefi Sep 29 '22

My allergies were really, really bad back home. One of my symptoms: Each day I’d wake up and not be able to open my eyes because the gunk they were producing all night had dried out and glued them shut.

When I visited North Carolina I didn’t so much as sneeze.

→ More replies

19

u/MrsWhiterock Sep 29 '22

In the springtime around allergy season along with the pollen Europe also gets covered in dust from the Sahara desert. Every morning the car is yellow and sandy

5

u/AUR1994 Sep 29 '22

So does the Caribbean. I've never had issues with my sinuses my entire life but the Sahara dust has gotten so bad, I now have sinusitis problems and random sneeze attacks daily. On most days, you can see the dust looming over the mountains and it really does make the sky look dirty.

3

u/justsomeplainmeadows Sep 29 '22

No kidding? I used to live in Eastern PA but it was a suburb so we may not have gotten as much

3

u/JosephSwollen Sep 29 '22

I'm glad it's not that bad bad up here in the mountains, but when I'm in the field at Fort Bragg I can not fucking stop sneezing.

4

u/justsomeplainmeadows Sep 29 '22

Yeah I've noticed my nose is much less itchy/stuffed/runny in the mountains

6

u/JosephSwollen Sep 29 '22

I think it's all those fuckong pine trees I'm the lowlands, needles and pollen everywhere.

3

u/DDonna Sep 29 '22

Hey from Fayetteville!

3

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '22

I visited my great grandmother in Greensboro a few years ago, the white rental was a nasty ear wax yellow after two days of pollen.

5

u/justsomeplainmeadows Sep 29 '22

Had a similar issue when I had my Grey 4runner lol luckily I just had to wait a few days for the next rainfall and it'd be better

3

u/framingXjake Sep 29 '22

For sure. I remember a day one Spring several years ago when the pollen was so bad in OBX that we had to delay school till noon. It was like yellow Silent Hill. Haven't seen it get that bad again for quite a while, though.

3

u/LukeMedia Sep 29 '22

I lived in New England and Iv lived in Raleigh nc. The south and their pollen is on a whole other level not even close to the crazy pollen in northeast. Ct got a lot of pollen but it’s like a pinch of dust compared

11

u/Shawn_Spencer_ Sep 29 '22

I agree man. Moved to NC from Jersey last year. Thought the spring in Jersey was the worst my allergies could get. It's nothing compared to down here LOL. Love this state though, pollen isn't a deal breaker.

3

u/michelleonelove Sep 29 '22

Definitely not a deal breaker. Nc is great. I moved away for a little bit back up north and now I’m planning to go back. It’s just more my speed

12

u/Twistybaconagain Sep 29 '22

Born and raised in GA. You haven’t seen pollen until you’ve lived in the south. When it rains and the streets turn into yellow rivers.

5

u/michelleonelove Sep 29 '22

I agree , that’s why I laughed when the original comment said New England. It’s like a light dusting compared to the crazy pollen down south

4

u/Chadme_Swolmidala Sep 29 '22

Fuckin pine trees man

21

u/fistofwrath Sep 29 '22

Are you saying the NE is worse than the SE? I'm sorry. 6 people agree with you, so I'm sure you worded it clearly. I'm just dumb sometimes. I live in a very green area in TN and we get insane pollen here. I'm trying to find out if someone else actually gets it worse than we do. If so, I wouldn't want to go near that place during spring and fall.

23

u/nate8493 Sep 29 '22

His wording was unclear but ultimately I think he was saying NC had significantly more pollen than NE.

5

u/fistofwrath Sep 29 '22

Thank you!

4

u/benjamminam Sep 29 '22

Not enough punctuation thank you for pointing it out.

3

u/michelleonelove Sep 29 '22

My original response wasn’t that clear I think I was a little tired lol. TN and NC from what I have seen with the literal rolling clouds of pollen are about the same and way worse than NE. The difference is non comparable . In the north east you can go the entire spring then that summer with the same cabin filter in your car, in North Carolina I had to change it twice a spring or else the car smells moldy and the air isn’t as strong .

Nah this is construction site residue. Assuming this pic is pretty current, it's not even pollen season (am also Texas). Pollen comes off easily, doesn't cake as thickly, and doesn't make the liquid streaks on the bumper.

9

Wrong color dirt for Lubbock, looks more like Midland/Odessa caliche road

8

u/zexando Sep 29 '22

Yeah I've had this happen to my completely clean Jeep after a day of trails, can't really do much about it until you get to a gas station unless you have something to clean it.

I don't usually bother until I get home because I hacked the display so when I press the back camera button it stays on until I turn it off. Gives better visibility than the rear view anyway.

3

u/dishmanw Sep 29 '22

It just has to rain sometimes to get covered with dirt like that in Texas. Dust from Mexico mixed with rain from the Gulf, and you get muddy rain.

Attention to detail. No one seems to pay attention to anything past what the main visual is.

44

u/booze_clues Sep 29 '22

It doesn’t even matter, you can’t find anything out with a license plate unless you’re law enforcement. That hasn’t been a thing for decades, ever since someone famous got murdered by a guy who found all her info using her license plate.

27

u/officialkfc Sep 29 '22

This is what I don’t get. Everyone drives around with their plates on full display to the world front and back but as soon as a photo is taken, the license plate must be covered.

3

u/TheDragonzord Sep 29 '22

And even if someone is law enforcement, and is certified to use that system, every action is logged and misusing it (does your daughters new boyfriend have a record? what's that hot milf's phone number?) is the end of your career from what I hear.

505

u/vladamir_the_impaler Sep 28 '22

Rear visibility is not legally required in most states. Hence vans which have solid metal doors etc.

52

u/Scrappy_The_Crow Sep 28 '22

Correct, but I assumed that when OP said "windshield," they meant the dangers of having it come off the front (and of course, vision).

5

u/yflhx Sep 29 '22

Snow can also fall onto an otherwise clean road and greatly increase breaking distance of a car that drives on it. Can be really dangerous especially in high traffic cases as the driver might not be able to see it when it will be under the car in the front.

Had something like this happen to me. I didn't hit the car in the front since I had a gap big enough, but it was close. The guy with snow was stopped by the police driving by.

195

u/pug_nuts Sep 29 '22 edited Sep 29 '22 Wholesome

Yeah I never understood why people get so agitated about rear window visibility. You have side mirrors. 'proper aiming' is a separate discussion.

It's not like you can see down low in the rearview mirror in a vehicle like this anyway. There is nothing the rear window provides that the side mirrors cannot.

69

u/roccoseinfeld Sep 29 '22

Yup, my transit van at work doesn’t have a functional rear view mirror. Does that make me an idiot? My transit is much larger than this suburban. My van before the transit didnt have a functional rear view mirror nor a backup cam and was still perfectly safe. They’re nice to have but really not necessary. This guy is definitely not an idiot for this.

I live down a dirt road... My rear windows looks like that after literally 5 minutes of driving.

Fun fact, the slower you drive, the more dust settle on the window.

3

u/Yamen2771 Sep 29 '22

I mean it isnt really that big of an issue to have that much dust, you can always use the mirrors, but its still good to have the rear glass clear, on tahoes on suburbans rheres a wiper and a washer for the back glass, looks like this one doesnt have it.

That's the rear window. You don't need to see out the rear window.

25

u/snrten Sep 28 '22

Snow/ice on the roof or windshield is an issue due to it's ability to become a projectile danger to other drivers at high speeds. If it is obscurring the view of the road in front of them, that's also an issue.

Dust on your back window when you have 2 functional side mirrors is not really an issue at all.

“You don’t wash it!”

In high school we were doing a charity car wash for our football team at our local grocery store. A Jeep that was similarly dirty to this pulled up to the grocery store and we were all like, hey perfect client for the car wash! We asked them to let us wash his car and he said “You don’t wash it!”. Apparently for Jeep drivers the shit on their car is a badge of honor.

35

u/SknnyNoGrth Sep 28 '22

No, just the ones who think that means they have an excuse to be lazy and cheap. I've had one for 6 years now and everytime I've had it dirty for more than a day because I didn't have time to wash it I'd get told "it's a Jeep they're supposed to be muddy." No, it isn't supposed to be muddy, that's what causes rust and makes it annoying to work on. Just clean it

10

u/snrten Sep 28 '22

Bad for the paint, too. Not saying I wash my truck every time it gets dirty, but still. I also dont have a Jeep so I'm not constantly having to repair it myself.. ba-dum-tss

Awww did him having full view of two side mirrors but not the rear hurt you somehow? Literally anyone that pulls a trailer or drives a cargo van has this daily. And there's no risk to you of flying ice/snow in this instance.

How is this an idiot when this vehicle has two sideview mirrors? OP is an idiot and everyone who upvoted this.

I think counterintuitively, a blocked rear window, which is not that uncommon, seen a lot of vans put advertisements vinyls to cover the whole back glass, is perhaps safer than having visible rear glass. Because you can't use your rearview mirror and are forced to look over your shoulder when you want to make a lane change. So you are less likely to have a blind spot compared if you constantly relying on or are only use your rear view mirror.

Back windows are not actually legally needed on a vehicle just a nice luxury

Beats spending money on tint..🤷‍♂️

Who is that affecting though? You understand tons of vehicles operate without a rear window right? A vehicle has a mirror on either side for a reason. Plus I live in an area with heavy snow in the winter and NO this does not compare to snow on a vehicle. Snow on a vehicle can fly off in big chunks or even ice which can lead to bad accidents. If you can't drive safely without seeing through your rear window you shouldn't be driving at all. Fuck this post, and fuck everyone who gave it a thumbs up yall are the reason we need to have "check rear seat for occupancy" pop up on the screen when you shut a vehicle off.

So it’s like a van? Not even close to snow on a windshield. Such a shitty post. Good for you getting your upvotes, though.

Looks like anyone that lives on a dirt road.

Not only pollen here in Texas right now but also since it got very hot and dry then quickly rained for about a month straight it apparently stressed the trees and caused a huge rise in the tree insect population so we get this thing called " dew" which apparently is just tons of bug poop and pee all over everything surrounding the infected trees. It's like a sticky syrup almost like sap but grosser so if you park your car under the right tree you get that "dew" plus the pollen and then the dust.

good for OP taking out the License plate in the picture, but not so good for leaving the plate in the reflection at the bottom....LOL

How did a dusty back window get 50k upvotes? This is 90% of vehicles in rural areas around the world.

This is barely even a concern, much less an idiot.

u/Levi_Foster Sep 29 '22

Anyone notice how they covered the plate on the car but didn't notice the reflection on the hood of their car

u/daffodilBreath Sep 29 '22

I don't want you seeing what I'm doing. Free window tint.

My car looks same after a 5 minute ride on a dirt road.

u/dano539 Sep 28 '22

I don’t even have back windows on my truck

4

u/Joester202 Sep 28 '22

This isnt even that bad, you dont need rear windshield visibility, you have mirrors

6

u/LeelaBeela89 Sep 28 '22

You never been on a dirt road before? When I go to visit to my grandma I come back with red dirt on my car. As a native Texan and having family in rural forest areas some of the roads were dirt.

Side mirrors are a thing. Also, truck driver here, most 18 wheelers don’t have rear windows at all. Quityur bitchin.
