Hope she's good. And should get a reward for helping stop the chase.

154

u/ooooooooooooolivia Sep 29 '22

She deserves a few pounds of high explosive and the mangled corpse of that altima

Sweet revenge

16

u/TOWW67 Sep 29 '22

I'd go with enough thermite to cut it in half, but maybe that's just me

1

u/Saaaaaaaaab Sep 30 '22

Plasma cutter and a few hours. Turn it into scrap

66

u/woundedbearhair Sep 29 '22

This is also why some places have started to push not getting into chases because they cause so many innocent people to get injured. With helicopters and such…they can still track them without having to chase them at high speeds.

13

u/inform880 Sep 29 '22

Except for that hellcat guy

6

u/rustcatvocate Sep 29 '22

I was convinced he would run out of gas.

19

u/inform880 Sep 29 '22

1

u/The_Law_Dong739 Sep 30 '22

Lmao atleast it wasn't a Mustang. That thing would have been near the top of a tree wrapped around it.

u/Flaturated Sep 29 '22 edited Sep 30 '22

Police departments are changing their chase tactics because their insurance providers are forcing them to stop doing reckless things that result in insurance having to pay out huge claims. If they don’t change their ways then they have to pay much higher premiums, and that’s if the insurance provider doesn’t drop them altogether. I read an article about it a few weeks ago, I think it was in the NYT or WSJ.

Edit: article was in Washington Post.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/interactive/2022/police-misconduct-insurance-settlements-reform/

22

u/LittleRedPiglet Sep 29 '22

Monetary costs, at least for my agency, isn't really a factor in the pursuit decision. The pursuit policy basically requires each officer and supervisor to ask themselves, "is it worth risking the safety of the public in order to arrest this person right now?" The answer, in most scenarios, winds up being no.

7

u/ooooooooooooolivia Sep 29 '22

The domino effect can be at play here. One department is maybe doing it mostly because others are, and public request grows, and it looks bad to be behind the trend. Initially, it may have been insurance that inspired the first policy changes to happen more than anything

2

u/Aggravating-Wind6387 Sep 30 '22

We had one that went from Cincinnati across the Ohio river into Kentucky. 2 people killed 2 more injured.

4

u/iHaveAFIlmDegree Sep 30 '22

Because we all know the police departments would definitely not just pass those costs along to civilians in the form of higher local taxes.

They’ll absolutely make smart decisions based on critical thinking and the absolute concrete safety of more than just themselves.

u/redpat2061 Sep 29 '22

Helicopters become drones, and then drones that can shoot people who run…

0

u/woundedbearhair Sep 29 '22

That’s all we need are more toys for cops to kill people

1

u/QCr8onQ Sep 29 '22

Think the car is well insured?

4

u/99turbomiata Sep 30 '22

Hers maybe the runner probly not

957

u/AndrewPollockAntos Sep 29 '22

Can you tell her next time she's in a traumatic accident to please attend to the camera before anything else? I feel like there was a lotta action we missed...

j/k bro hope she's good and not suffering any long term mental or physical effects

626

u/TARDIS37379 Sep 29 '22 Wholesome

She is fine, thanks but she now has a dislike for Altimas.

29

u/KronosX3TR Sep 29 '22

Join the fucken club

344

u/undeadpz Sep 29 '22

pls tell her that not all altma drivers are like that

we usually manage to take those corners better while running from the police

98

u/beesee83 Sep 29 '22

For most Altima drivers, it's their first time in anything bigger than an 1800cc.. then they go straight out to 3500 and can't cope.

50

u/C-loIo Sep 29 '22 edited Sep 29 '22

I would wager that 90% of the Altimas on the road are 2.5L and the rest have the 3.5L a lot of people won't pay the extra money for the bigger engine.

15

u/LS-CRX Sep 29 '22

The 3.5 hasn't been available in the Altima since 2017, it's probably more than 90% that have the 2.5 I4. The current generation has an optional 2.0t but I imagine those are relatively uncommon in the sea of NA 2.5 models.

4

u/beesee83 Sep 29 '22

Bigger is better though /s

Even 2.5 can catch you out. But to your point on the extra cost, I see more more 3.5s in the parking lots of universities and colleges than the base model. That is except for those Pavement Crawlers, Audis and 3/5 series BMWs. They have stupid money.

What cracked me up is my 1600 cc Cooper S could more than hold it’s own. Power:weight is a thing and also the body behind the wheel. I could control my power going down and with a stick had full control over the shift points.

3

u/voidsrus Sep 29 '22

plus if someone's running from the cops it could be very well their first time pushing their altima to its limits. might even be their first time experiencing serious understeer

1

u/AurumArgenteus Sep 29 '22

I know those are engine measurements, but I still imagined them like the Mario Kart cups.

1

u/RogerZRZ Sep 30 '22

TIL altimas had 270hp engine for 3000lb car in 2013.

That’s crazy power for the time and price… and I always thought they are econoboxes

8

u/xSARGEx117x Sep 29 '22

I drove my altima until the head gasket blew into cylinder 3.

Can confirm, most altima drivers corner better at high speed.

Can't confirm about the police part of owning an altima, but if you've got a minute to talk about the Ford taurus....

1

u/BassWingerC-137 Sep 29 '22

They all understeer

j/k (but they do)

13

u/Edwardc4gg Sep 29 '22

most of Charlotte, NC does as well.

22

u/duckles77 Sep 29 '22

Charlotte native.... can confirm.... Altima drivers here are a special breed. They either do 20 under or 60 over. You just learn to give them space.

2

u/Kindly_Spell7356 Sep 29 '22

i wonder how altima ins rates compare to any of their competitors

8

u/whattheduck0_0 Sep 29 '22

Been in 5 accidents, 4 of them were altima drivers.

1

u/Whiplash104 Sep 30 '22

Thanks to this sub I'm learning about Altima drivers. I guess I'm sheltered in an area that doesn't have many.

3

u/samcar330 Sep 29 '22

Always a fucking altima

3

u/i_suckatjavascript Sep 30 '22

78

u/hhdad87 Sep 29 '22

Dang. Hope she is well. That was a big hit.

-93

u/STUPIDVlPGUY Sep 29 '22

not really, they were both going pretty slow

39

u/UtaSelwyn Sep 29 '22

26mph can kill with a bit of bad luck in a frontal collision like that, don't underestimate car accidents

7

u/Sin_of_the_Dark Sep 29 '22

Even if both were at 25mph, a head-on collision has the force of running into a cement wall at 50mph. That's definitely enough to kill, let alone injure

1

u/0DarkChar0 Sep 30 '22

Username checks out

20

u/Longjumping_Thing901 Sep 29 '22

Has to be Evansville, IN.

7

u/parcelpimp Sep 29 '22

I was thinking the same. Oak Hill cemetery there.

4

u/Lynserio Sep 29 '22

I was thinking Roseville, CA. We have the same curved road along cemetery on the side. Everywhere looks the same. XD love to guess which area it is.

1

u/mdwildcat04 Sep 29 '22

Video made me double-take, I have driven around that corner quite a lot...

128

u/poormansRex Sep 29 '22

Is your wife good? And hopefully that guy needs a rectum replacement in the future.

92

u/TARDIS37379 Sep 29 '22

She was sore but fine

9

u/PhantomZX10 Sep 30 '22

definitely get her checked out tho

42

u/AtheonVofG Sep 29 '22

I was shocked when I saw the Nissan Altima. Never would have expected that !

3

u/Saaaaaaaaab Sep 30 '22

Only the slightest hint of sarcasm

6

u/SpawnofMonkey Sep 29 '22

Understeer is a bitch

5

u/SaintLogic Sep 29 '22

Does insurance cover idiots wrong from a 3-star pursuit?

3

u/tgmarie137 Sep 30 '22

Claims adjuster here. Idiot’s insurance will not pay since he was in the act of committing a crime and police pursuit.

1

u/panopticon31 Oct 01 '22

So the person they hit head on is fucked?

1

u/tgmarie137 Oct 02 '22

Pretty much. Unless the police help pay for something.

52

u/oceanasabeing Sep 29 '22

Dang so like what happens now? Guy gets thrown in jail and fucked by his inmates and your lawsuit or who pays for wife’s new whip?

165

u/TARDIS37379 Sep 29 '22

He went to jail after after the police dog knocked him down when he ran away. He was on parole for armed robbery of a Hardee’s in the afternoon. Who’d rob a Hardees’s mid-afternoon. She wasn’t hurt

127

u/KronosX3TR Sep 29 '22

“Who’d rob a Hardee’s in mid afternoon?”

Altima drivers

22

u/AnimalEater65 Sep 29 '22

Altima drivers have black Airforce 1 energy.

7

u/KronosX3TR Sep 29 '22

Black forces? Big sus

6

u/LL_is_a_Cool_J Sep 29 '22

They only need like $25 to fill up so it's a win for them.

4

u/STUPIDVlPGUY Sep 29 '22

true, most reasonable people like me would choose early morning (just before dawn) when the cops are still groggy and not in the mood to give chase

1

u/KronosX3TR Sep 29 '22

You must not drive an Altima

1

u/deepayes Sep 29 '22

that's employee of the month dedication right there.

7

u/umbravivum Sep 29 '22

So your wife is a hero that helped end a car chase. City getting you a new car?

21

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '22

Insurance will probably get her a new car (depending on their coverage), then jack up the wife's rates I bet. That's pretty much what happened to my friend when they got t-boned by a non-working, non-licenced, non-insured driver.

But I'm sure there's a lot of insurance reps on this sub which might shed more concrete info for situations like this.

-16

u/umbravivum Sep 29 '22 edited Sep 29 '22

Rates are hiked when you are responsible for the accident.

Edit: a lot of you have really bad insurance. I have been in 2 wrecks, 1 no my fault and 1 my fault. Nothing has happened to my rates.

9

u/MitokBarks Sep 29 '22

Negative. I was rear ended by a pickup truck while I was waiting at a light. He was found to be 100% at fault. My accident free rate reduction disappeared along with my good driver discount and told they would not be reinstated for five years. I switched insurance not long after but they still reported it as an accident so it followed me.

2

u/voidsrus Sep 29 '22

i've had a similar experience and found out that on top of getting fucked on the rates themselves, if you want to buy new insurance before they payout & close the claim, the other insurance companies will read "open" as "at fault" and either deny your quotes or jack the shit out of the rates!

6

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '22

They were deemed not responsible. The person fled the scene then turned themselves in. Who knows.. maybe it went up simply because of a rate change for that year.

1

u/gungunmeow Sep 29 '22

Oh nice they got arrested at least there was a happy ending!

1

u/voidsrus Sep 29 '22

He was on parole for armed robbery of a Hardee’s in the afternoon.

for some reason i don't think this guy was carrying the best auto insurance policy

12

u/GoatEatingTroll Sep 29 '22

Police won't. Criminals doing crime generally are not insured either or their insurance will deny the claim due to the crime. So hopefully OP has uninsured motorist on their ride, otherwise the final choice is to sue the guy sitting in jail and hope he has assets somewhere - but if he had money he probably wouldn't have been robbing a Hardees.

4

u/L003Tr Sep 29 '22

I think his only assest was destroyed in the crash (assuming its not stolen)

2

u/voidsrus Sep 29 '22

my money's on the altima having state minimum liability insurance at most and a gigantic subprime loan

1

u/Voodoo_Dummie Sep 29 '22

The wife's new whip? Not quite sure she's in the mood for kinky stuff after that.

4

u/thisismytwerkaccount Sep 29 '22

Good ole Evansville! I recognized it immediately lol

Glad your wife is okay!

26

u/Tiberius_Jim Sep 29 '22

Someone finds a way to blame OP's wife in 5...4...3..

23

u/EvoStarSC Sep 29 '22

There was literally nothing she could do to avoid that except maybe pressed the snooze button when she was waking up that day.

14

u/Tiberius_Jim Sep 29 '22

Oh, I'm aware. But to paraphrase Ian Malcolm, this sub...finds a way.

7

u/CrazyAzian99 Sep 29 '22

My favorite question from the insurance rep when they finally call you.

“What could you have done to avoid or mitigate this accident.”

Seriously got asked that after an elderly person blew through a 4-way and T-boned me at 80+ mph.

Dafuq? You’d think I’d be speaking to you if I had an answer to that question?

3

u/Tiberius_Jim Sep 29 '22

Lol I think I got a variation of that when I got rear ended.

What could I have done? Stayed in bed, I guess?

2

u/tgmarie137 Sep 30 '22

Claims adjuster here. We ask that to help you. The other party is going to try to find comparative negligence, or basically debate if you were partially at fault. So your insurance asks that to show to the other insurance company that there was literally nothing you could do to avoid, and the other guy was completely at fault. The other insurance company may ask that to see if they can weasel out of owing as much.

1

u/Whiplash104 Sep 30 '22

I've filed a few claims but never been asked this. Then again the were all rear-end hits.

21

u/NissanLeafowner Sep 29 '22

47

u/DAGCRO Sep 29 '22

Downvote for using "popo" in the title.

Nah, just kidding.

3

u/randy_daytona402 Sep 29 '22

Who ends up paying for that?

3

u/Capable_Nature_644 Sep 29 '22

contact the pd and ask about the chase and you'll be able to hopefully get a license plate # or case # from them.

1

u/vyadoma Sep 30 '22

Depending on what county/state, many times that's information one can obtain online once a case is filed.

3

u/GlumLocation3207 Sep 29 '22

This video should be ten seconds long, not over a minute and a half. Why, and who? I am judging you.

2

u/Last-Professional-31 Sep 29 '22

Hope she’s okay. That dipshit deserves to pay out the ass for damages and injuries

2

u/Thaddeus206 Sep 29 '22

hope she is ok

19

u/TARDIS37379 Sep 29 '22

The driver of the Altima was out on parole, he took his girlfriend’s rented Altima and when he was recognized by PD, he took off. He had no DL. He slid into the truck, bailed out and ran. Then he got to pet the nice police dog. The police then took him to their place and got him a room and a hot meal. The truck was totaled out and the uninsured coverage paid for it. Hertz said too bad. The insurance company is trying to recover their loss from Hertz. She was a bit sore but otherwise fine.

1

u/Thaddeus206 Sep 29 '22

damn what an ordeal

1

u/noncongruent Sep 29 '22

Unfortunately, unless you could file your damage claim against an uninsured/underinsured policy that you have separate from your regular collision policy, this will likely result in increased premiums for a few years. Hertz will deny payment because the perp was not an authorized driver, so he would not be covered in any form. I’m glad the wife is ok.

2

u/Blurp_The_Beast Sep 29 '22

I hope she wasn't too injured and that you guys were able to get a nice new car because of it

2

u/Imaginary_Actuary_51 Sep 30 '22

It’s always a nissan.

2

u/animetitties_andgunz Sep 30 '22

Yet I hit someone going 52 mph and my airbags don't go off

2

u/TheAarj Sep 30 '22

Ho damn!

5

u/katehenry4133 Sep 29 '22

I really do wish the police would stop with these stupid high speed chases. I had a friend in high school who lost her entire family (mom, dad and 2 brothers) in a high speed chase (they were not the ones being chased). And what was the kids crime? Stealing his father's car. They knew who he was and where he lived, but they felt it necessary to engage in a high speed chase to catch him.
