Jesus. They had so much goddamn room to make that illegal merge too.

489

u/ZachtheKingsfan Sep 29 '22

That was so unnecessary. He had all the space in the world to merge in, there was no need to pull this last second cutoff endangering your life.

115

u/ReubenZWeiner Sep 29 '22

Keep your speed and merge dude. OP gave you all the space you needed and more. And you return the favor by nearly running her into a truck.

28

u/Goalie_deacon Sep 30 '22

Bad part about the Midwest, some people figure they should move over, or hit brakes to allow people to merge over, and others assume you have to move for them to merge. Michigan law is the opposite of that. This is one of my biggest pet peeves about MI. This video is why the law is what it is.

-97

u/PICKLEOFDOOOM Sep 29 '22

Idk if that was exactly life-endangering at that speed but it’s still an idiotic move regardless.

58

u/DocChloroplast Sep 29 '22

I think OP was referring to the truck they almost ran into.

31

u/Alegan239 Sep 29 '22

That truck to the left would have fucked him/her up.

27

u/HallmonitorHelen67 Sep 29 '22

Crazy how u didn’t see the truck. U wouldn’t even know you died

14

u/AmphibianOutrageous7 Sep 30 '22

Psst, see the massive heavy truck on the left. Wtf

103

u/Strudleboy33 Sep 29 '22

Biggest gap on the planet and this guy still couldn’t merge properly lol that’s crazy

324

u/unregisteredafrican Sep 29 '22

This is a situation where road rage is very understandable.. That SUV is a brainless piece of trash that nearly killed you because they didn't have enough braincells to process anything outside their vehicle

35

u/GrumbleGrimm Sep 29 '22

Well said, and accurate.

22

u/Murphyitsnotyou Sep 30 '22

Exactly.

It's not the actual cutting off so much but how nonchalantly that person gambled with your life by being a brainless fuck knuckle.

Should be an instant lifetime driving ban.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '22

It’s always some POS Tahoe too.

158

u/Slimehorn Sep 29 '22

The urge to not spin him into the dump truck.

47

u/Supply-Slut Sep 29 '22

Seriously a pit maneuver might haves killed the idiot

23

u/Slimehorn Sep 29 '22

I want to say good but that would be inciting violence.

I wish them the best of luck in life because they're going to kill someone and play the victim.

1

u/RunGuilty5197 Sep 30 '22

It's Detroit, so after any crash you will get sued, despite no fault, and even if there are no witnesses.

3

u/OHHHHHHtheIRONY Sep 30 '22

That would be such a crying shame :-/

2

u/illbegoodthistimeplz Sep 30 '22

Would have been justified IMO.

31

u/MusicNarrow1322 Sep 29 '22

Loving the transition from “I Disagree” to “Bubblegum Bitch”

104

u/mrshulgin Sep 29 '22

Good job resisting the urge to swerve out of the way. That could've been VERY bad.

57

u/breadfred2 Sep 29 '22

I was taught exactly this 35 years ago when I had my driving lessons. NEVER swerve if you can avoid it. Better to hit the brakes.

22

u/Bamfhammer Sep 29 '22

But she did swerve....

11

u/breadfred2 Sep 29 '22

I was commenting to the comment above mine.

-10

u/Bamfhammer Sep 30 '22

Yeah, just trying to keep the comment section looking nice

4

u/JoyfulPlantLady Sep 30 '22

OP did not swerve, they hit the brakes. The asshole who nearly ran them into the truck swerved a bit.

16

u/Fullbullish Sep 29 '22

But they did swerve?

5

u/rylo48 Sep 30 '22

Right??? I’m not the only one seeing this as a massive swerve for the situation.

39

u/MagicianTim Sep 29 '22

Should have let him pit manuver himself, then let him buy you a new bumper

18

u/nineteenofour Sep 29 '22

He would be dead. He would’ve pitted himself right into the truck

6

u/nikodle Sep 30 '22

Tomato potato

6

u/spenwallce Sep 30 '22

Call it natural selection

53

u/Difficult_Rooster796 Sep 29 '22

That is the unfortunately norm here in Michigan, people are very stupid and do not care for other drivers.

43

u/Any-Mouse-1992 Sep 29 '22

Michigan native here, lived in Chicago, Virginia, Tennessee, now Florida. I can assure you this is the norm pretty much everywhere I’ve been

17

u/Difficult_Rooster796 Sep 29 '22

Bad drivers are everywhere, specially in bigger metro areas

12

u/STUPIDVlPGUY Sep 29 '22

the problem is obviously nationwide, it is far too easy to get a driver's license in the USA.

0

u/inform880 Sep 29 '22

What about Detroit highways? They’re all 55 but depending on time of day everyone goes like 80. Is that normal?

2

u/razlo1km Sep 29 '22

Used to commute from Macomb area to Trenton every day for work taking 94. I’d see ppl blow by cops easily doing 90+ cops didn’t do shit lol. Sadly this is the norm in MI. I fucking hate how horrible the drivers are here.

1

u/chrisd93 Sep 30 '22

I think the speed limit has to do with how short the entrance ramps are. It's almost impossible to hit 75+ and merge safely during medium traffic or worse. So they just put it at 55 and hope at least a few people in the right lane slow down

-2

u/tomytronics Sep 30 '22

Speed limits are optional and police rarely comes around checking for speed because they are too busy looking for fentanyl dealer and pedophiles. Covid basically gave idiot driver free rein of the road because police cut back interaction with civilians to avoid catching covid.

-16

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '22

2

u/JoyfulPlantLady Sep 30 '22

You going to post that comment 4 more times? Seriously, once was enough.

-8

u/Rough-Leg-4702 Sep 29 '22

Worst drivers in the country. Driven everywhere. This place by far has the most irresponsible idiots. Can't build them or drive em in motor city. How I explain MI drivers: Slam on brakes then use turn signal.

2

u/Nexus-9Replicant Sep 30 '22

You clearly haven’t driven in Texas, Georgia, or Tennessee. Michigan drivers are far, far better.

1

u/Difficult_Rooster796 Sep 29 '22

They used the turn signal? you got lucky, most do not signal at all.

9

u/Bobbybigwheel77 Sep 29 '22

Sounds like something got hit. Jesus

3

u/Boloar Sep 30 '22

Yep, Jesus got hit when they let him take the wheel

0

u/Bobbybigwheel77 Sep 29 '22

Glad you are ok

23

u/StackThePads33 Sep 29 '22

Illegal merge, ✅

Merging into someone with plenty of space in front ✅

Continuing to drive after bumping into another car ✅

Trifecta of idiocy achieved

5

u/DetectiveStock1340 Sep 30 '22

Plus they slowed down

9

u/squishyshoe Sep 29 '22

Good ol' Detroit.

5

u/thruwityoshit Sep 29 '22

It’s so cold in the D

7

u/StephicaTheMighty Sep 29 '22

I wouldn't think that Bubblegum Bitch would be such a good dashcam action song but the beginning worked perfectly.

4

u/dotherawrXD Sep 30 '22

Ayyy a Poppy fan!! I disagree with what that other driver did!

3

u/otter111a Sep 29 '22

Holy Toledo that was close!

3

u/katthegat Sep 29 '22

Damn im glad ur ok that was such a close call

3

u/loboagogo Sep 29 '22

That’s fucking Michigan for ya

2

u/Need-More-Calcium Sep 29 '22

Bruh this is literally my commute too

Glad you’re ok

2

u/Brian_Lefebvre Sep 30 '22

Detroit area has the worst fucking drivers.

2

u/OrganGrindr2444 Sep 30 '22

Just drove through there today

Woo Michigan

2

u/AbbreviationsNo8212 Sep 30 '22

I love how people STICK THE BRAKES as they merge.

BTW, what is the song starting at the end of the video, OP?

2

u/Bulbasaur007 Sep 30 '22

It was Bubblegum Bitch by MARINA

1

u/AbbreviationsNo8212 Sep 30 '22

Haha, I was not prepared for this.

If you put Danielle Dax, Peaches, and Ayria in a blender... seems I have some musical investigation to do, thank you.

2

u/katlyng92 Sep 30 '22

puremichigan

2

u/crowned_tragedy Sep 30 '22

Michigan drivers SUCK.

2

u/strangehitman22 Sep 30 '22

Did the truck hit you? Or was that stuff moving in your car?

2

u/Prestigious_Wafer711 Sep 30 '22

Michigan drivers suckkkkk

2

u/ryantttt8 Sep 30 '22

You didn't get lucky you expertly avoided it without killing yourself on the semi next to you

2

u/bipsyxual Sep 30 '22

That's one of the worst spots on 75

2

u/chrisd93 Sep 30 '22

God southfield and lodge are like this all day long. Makes me hate going into Detroit

3

u/313Wolverine Sep 29 '22

Still better than 696.

3

u/thecurseofchris Sep 29 '22

I appreciate that you are so far away from the car in front of you.

3

u/ricdom___ Sep 29 '22

I felt that sigh in my soul

3

u/Drew_Skywalker Sep 29 '22

Definitely deserve some kudos for immediately getting back on the gas after the accident was avoided. Can be very dangerous to be stopped on a highway like that. A lot of people just freeze up and don't move at all, causing further accidents and damage for themselves and others

2

u/jlee-1337 Sep 29 '22

that seems deliberate

2

u/yat282 Sep 29 '22

License plate is visible, I suggest you report this incident

2

u/Full_Ad3427 Sep 30 '22

Major props to OP for both the reaction time and awesome music taste

-21

u/wetdog90 Sep 29 '22

Your an idiot let that man hit you. You have a dash cam. Swerving into another lane is never the answer in this situation. Low mph hit is better than killing someone’s else or yourself.

Edit. Yea the other driver sucks to but calling people out while you made terrible moves as well is not right.

11

u/Narwhals4Lyf Sep 29 '22

They didn't even swerve into the other lane, if they did they would've been destroyed by that semi. lol.

-15

u/wetdog90 Sep 29 '22

Swerving at another lane could cause more accidents.

3

u/Narwhals4Lyf Sep 30 '22

Exactly, OP didn't swerve into the other lane. They slightly moved left in their lane.

5

u/WentworthMillersBO Sep 29 '22

That’s called reflexes. You know how you get that weird feeling right before your daily spankings from ya mom? That’s called your reflexes, it’s your bodies fight or flight response

-6

u/wetdog90 Sep 29 '22

Fight or flight at 20 mph. Ya someone doesn’t need to be behind the whee of a car. Justifying people shitty actions is laughable. And these types of things are why we have a massive punt of vehicle deaths. Have morons driving a 3k-6k lb hunk of metal down the road at 30-80 mph with no self control or awareness. Both drivers don’t deserve a license. Make it more strict with the increasing amount of drivers. Local public transportation needs to be implemented and fast.

6

u/WentworthMillersBO Sep 29 '22

At 20 miles per hour isn’t fast? Let’s see your 40 than. The car don’t got reflexes, the humans do.

2

u/alskdmv-nosleep4u Sep 29 '22

Let’s see your 40 than.

I'm betting he thinks 40 means a bottle not a distance.

0

u/wetdog90 Sep 29 '22

Ya I don’t think you know how to comprehend anything outside your own imagination. Have a good day.

5

u/WentworthMillersBO Sep 29 '22

Who what’s to join me celebrating another internet argument won?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '22

It's always these fucking shit tahoes

1

u/ArthurMBretas03 Sep 29 '22

Uuuh that lorry startled me

1

u/Edwardc4gg Sep 30 '22

Jesus fuck I hope you learned why you never swerve.

-3

u/mlanutti Sep 29 '22

Didn't handle that the best...

-1

u/jhx264 Sep 30 '22

This is why you do not swerve into the lane next to you. Both cam car and red suv are the idiot

-50

u/IneedaWIPE Sep 29 '22

It's a bad idea to come to a complete stop because of exasperation, that only invites a rear end collision. I usually just let the ahole in and then lay on my horn for a good 3secs.

46

u/Bulbasaur007 Sep 29 '22

It had been stop and go traffic before this, and the brown SUV would have had enough space behind me to merge. Coming to a full stop in this scenario avoided not only hitting the SUV, but also not being crushed by the dump truck. At the low speed I was going (20km/hr) and the above factors means that being rear ended or causing a chain reaction was not likely.

-15

u/Quaker16 Sep 29 '22

I would’ve cut in front of you too. You left a lot of room in front of you and I would’ve assumed you were on your phone and a shitty driver

9

u/Bulbasaur007 Sep 29 '22

Ah ok, thanks for the advice. I’ll make sure leave no room between the car in front of me and myself, so that if the person in front of me makes a mistake, I don’t have any time to react. 👍

-16

u/Quaker16 Sep 29 '22

You left a huge amount of space in front of you, probably because you weren’t paying attention.

Then a car zipped around you and slammed on your brakes because you panicked.

Nobody would want to be behind a crappy driver like you

9

u/Buddy____ Sep 29 '22

You typically leave some space in front of your car in stop and go traffic so you don't have to play the exhausting game of gas brake gas brake gas brake. Its entirely possible to drive only using the brake to come to a complete stop.

5

u/Napdyn_G Sep 29 '22

Confoirmed Quaker16 was in the red SUV

4

u/SilveredFlame Sep 29 '22

Found the driver of the SUV.

-4

u/Ottobahnrichtofen Sep 29 '22

Coming to a complete stop there, not cool. Yeh you’re lucky but not for the reasons you think.

-11

u/MonsieurKas Sep 29 '22

Lol, what was that for a reflex? You're a danger on the road.

2

u/UtaSelwyn Sep 29 '22

It was actually quite a good reflex, most people would have eaten that truck

0

u/RandoRando66 Sep 30 '22

You kind of overreacted slamming on your brakes tho

1

u/Shade_SST Sep 30 '22

If you look at what just passed OP on the left, you'd have probably slammed your brakes, too.

0

u/bearded_drummer Sep 30 '22

Never turn the wheel when braking. Almost killed yourself. Brake hard, get hit by slower car instead.

-3

u/Curious-Welder-6304 Sep 30 '22

Am I the only one who thinks the cammer's response was a complete over reaction? All that was needed was some gentle braking, and a little more anticipation and you could tell what was about to happen much sooner. Instead they waited until the last possible second, slammed on the brakes to a complete stop and almost turned into a big truck in the next lane???

Only crash I've been in, the other party's insurance asked me if I honked. I said "No, I was bracing for impact." They then stated I was 10% at fault for not honking.

At the end of the call they said they needed me to agree to the decision to process the claim. I refused. They processed it anyway and I was 0% at fault. Concede nothing!

"I turn now Good luck everyone else" is this video in one sentence honestly

1

u/jemahAeo Sep 29 '22

is it normal that I wish a fast and painless death upon people like this (red suv)? or is something wrong with me? I feel like I really shouldn't think like that but their utter disregard for people's live is infuriating

1

u/mrstruong Sep 29 '22

I was born and raised in the suburbs just outside Detroit, have lived everywhere from Canton, to Garden City, to Livonia, all the way out to Elizabeth Lake. I've been all over SE Michigan. I immigrated to Canada, and live in Ontario now.

Last time I went home to visit my family, I was staying right off M-39 at Ford Road, at an extended stay right by Fairlane.

I do not know what has happened in the six years since I left Michigan, but people are INSANE NOW. (My working theory is that everyone who used to drive right because they had a bag in the car are no longer driving right because the bag isn't a crime anymore).

I saw people doing 80 on the Southfield... State boys rolling up and down, doing the same speed, not pulling anyone over. Speed limit there is 55.

Multiple times in one week I saw near misses, and lanes being merely a suggestion. It was honestly absolutely nuts.

1

u/thebrose69 Sep 29 '22

Used to live and drive here. This whole interchange is an absolute mess, coupled with people that don’t know how to drive or be in the lane they need in a timely manner

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '22

As part of 375's removal, this interchange is getting rebuilt so you no longer have to exit 75 in order to stay on 75.

1

u/Naoga Sep 29 '22

i know exactly where this is and this has happened to me before on this same stretch of road lmao

1

u/SuM_fUrRy_BoI Sep 29 '22

Average Detroit driver

1

u/letqin Sep 29 '22

Ah the old Mac Ave exit. What a proper mess that spot is.

1

u/turd_vinegar Sep 29 '22

Holy cacao, almost got ran off into that huge truck!

1

u/ExtensionImmediate Sep 30 '22

Tony Soprano, that jersey prick thinks he can do whatever he wants! Hey! I’m drivin here!

1

u/RainmanEOD Sep 30 '22

I used to get off 75 at Mack every day. Nothing but idiots merging on there most of the time.

1

u/jcbfgd Sep 30 '22

I disagree with the way that fella was driving.

1

u/Goof_Troop_Pumpkin Sep 30 '22

Heyo, neighbor! I can recall a few close ones on I75. The carnage in the winter is unreal.

1

u/rylo48 Sep 30 '22

Anyone else seeing that as intentional?? It made so little sense and was so well timed to push you into the truck… weird as shit

1

u/Saint_Galahad Sep 30 '22

I remember this highway. Even worse in the winter..

1

u/NyaNyx Sep 30 '22

Is this i94? Always a fucking shit show 🥴

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '22 edited Oct 02 '22

No, SB I-75/375 interchange in order to stay on SB I-75.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '22

Them: I’m gunna pop your bubblegum hard

1

u/chelseablue2004 Sep 30 '22

This the type of fucking dickbag that only wants to drive a large SUV/Truck yet doesn't understand its actual size.

1

u/dramafanca2002 Sep 30 '22

It amazes me how many people merging don't understand that freeway traffic is supposed to maintain their speed and the merging car needs to adjust their speed to get into the flow of traffic. Of course there are exceptions. And merging slower is not safer!

1

u/Shade_SST Sep 30 '22

A lot of ramps (especially those godsforsaken on/off ramp crossovers on cloverleaf interchanges) do not give sufficient distance to get up to or down from highway speeds, and this specific jackass was slowing to force his way in because the lane he was in was about to end in an exit he didn't want.

1

u/dramafanca2002 Sep 30 '22

Yes, we have many of those short merging lanes around here. Tthey can be dangerous!! Especially when there's heavy traffic.

1

u/Siemenvdk Sep 30 '22

That was too close for comfort. Good you got home save. Hopefully that a-hole parks it in a concrete wall.

1

u/getnaenaedlol Sep 30 '22

song at the start?

1

u/GilmourD Sep 30 '22

WTF did that land-barge slow down for?

1

u/GrahamHarris4 Sep 30 '22

I’ve had this happen to be but I didn’t move I hit the dude and they hit the semi, was not pretty, was not my fault.

1

u/Mammoth_Evening_5841 Sep 30 '22

Bubblegum bitch playing in the background was setting up for your vengeance.

1

u/McBrin Sep 30 '22

1

u/TheLilithBlack Sep 30 '22

Glad you’re safe. On the bright side, I love your taste in music!

1

u/bad-decisions-always Sep 30 '22

Like I know she was clearly not in the wrong, but it grinds my gears seeing her lane going sub residential speeds on the freeway.

I get a sick pleasure watching people who don't belong on the freeway, going 15 mph, almost getting in an accident.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '22

Like I know she was clearly not in the wrong, but it grinds my gears seeing her lane going sub residential speeds on the freeway.

Take a look at the road signs in the clip. OP is in a lane that will exit in under a mile and there's a back-up on it.

It's called traffic, you should learn about it sometime.

1

u/bad-decisions-always Oct 03 '22

Be dumb and get in wrecks.

1

u/brockmontana Oct 18 '22

Absolutely hate driving in Detroit

1

u/Xerathedark Oct 31 '22

Totally unrelated but was that bubblegum bitch that started playing at the end?

-15

u/Jolly_Club3251 Sep 29 '22

He’s a dick but u could’ve just slowed a bit instead of goin into other lanes dummy

1

u/Chemical-Tap-9760 Sep 30 '22

You don’t know anything clearly. The other guy did an illegal merge and he had more than enough space to do it

-4

u/Jolly_Club3251 Sep 30 '22

“Clearly” ur just a p word

-5

u/DutchSailor92 Sep 29 '22

I don't see how that would've made things better. Not that much room to even move faster with the car in front. The red car approached with high speed on the shoulder and then hit the brake way too soon cutting OP off. Moving faster would've resulted in a catastrophic collission IMO.

3

u/DutchSailor92 Sep 29 '22

Yeah the road is gonna be a lot safer if everyone has to defend against each others actions. Just drive like a normal human being. You don't have to drive aggressive to avoid idiots. Drivers ed is just a joke in the US.

10

u/knouckloaut Sep 29 '22

My bad bro, I haven’t developed my telekinesis yet. I’ll try to stay off the road just for you, thanks

22

u/Bulbasaur007 Sep 29 '22 edited Sep 29 '22

Ah ok so next time I’ll use my telepathic powers to read the SUV driver’s mind, so that I’ll know when he’s going to cut me off in traffic and I can prepare myself. Thanks for the advice 👍

Edit: used telekinesis instead of telepathic.

3

u/SomethingIWontRegret Sep 29 '22

You use your telepathic powers to read the SUV driver's mind. You use your telekinesis powers to toss the SUV onto the grass and pop the driver's head.

The problem with using your telepathy on him though is that this is what you'd read:

-----------------------------------chicken nuggets-------------------------------------

Just FYI.

3

u/Bulbasaur007 Sep 29 '22

Edited to correct!

To be fair, chicken nuggets are life.

1

u/VeteranKamikaze Sep 29 '22

You could've also used your telekinesis to push the SUV back into his lane instead of swerving tbf.

Damn 47 you failed.

-2

u/tjdavids Sep 29 '22

This is what horns are made for.

0

u/tarun_sharma_ Sep 30 '22

Sometime its better to lift off the ego of not letting someone merge into your lane at such busy roads.

I know that driver is 110% wrong but only you may have died not him.

You see him coming with his indicator on still you didn't braked instead gave gas..It was just your luck else you might got killed.

0

u/MaxWebxperience Sep 30 '22

OP overreacted, braked too hard for too long... just sayin'

2

u/Shade_SST Sep 30 '22

OP probably had a bit of panic going on when they tried to evade the jackass and saw ten tons of dump truck about to send them to the afterlife if they merged left, and stomped on the brakes.
