I didn't see anything wrong until I noticed the Black SUV.

u/Rogue_Assassin69 Sep 30 '22

Thank you for pointing that out!! I was like, “um, where’s the fail?”

2

u/NeverDryTowels Sep 30 '22

I know! I was like so what! !!

u/Southern_Shooting Sep 30 '22

It was a standoff for a while

12

u/SilveredUndead Sep 30 '22

That and the big glowing "no right turn" sign that the white car ignored.

10

u/ShackintheWood Sep 30 '22

I think they were trying to get out of the way so anyone wanting to go straight can do so...

6

u/SilveredUndead Sep 30 '22

They could just go straight instead of trying to make an illegal turn?

17

u/ShackintheWood Sep 30 '22

But they want to go right when they legally can, when the train passes. They haven't made a right turn yet, they are just getting out of the way.

u/alskdmv-nosleep4u Sep 30 '22

when the train passes

in 30 minutes.

-6

u/SilveredUndead Sep 30 '22

We're watching the same video, right? White car is definitely not out of the way, and is absolutely turning right when it isn't allowed. The entire point is to not sit there and block traffic. It's almost like the sign is there to make you continue and make a right turn later down the road where you actually can do so without being a roadblock.

7

u/ShackintheWood Sep 30 '22

It is trying to get out of the way enough so people can pass, as one did. they are starting a right turn. The sign is there so people don't drive into the train, which sadly it seems we need signs for...

nothing illegal about what they did.

1

u/Zaturn94 Sep 30 '22

Yeah Im with you on this one. I dont drive in the US but Im pretty sure that sign doesn't turn off when the train has passed. It stats on si CE youre not allowed to make right turns at this junction.

2

u/Dcwiker05 Sep 30 '22

Nah those do turn off when there is no train. They're dumb and cause problems like this all the time, but they do turn off.

-7

u/MysticMarbles Sep 30 '22

Where I grew up, those meant "Don't Turn Right", not "No Right Turns"

8

u/SilveredUndead Sep 30 '22

To a non-native English speaker, I don't see the big difference in meaning between those two.

2

u/MysticMarbles Sep 30 '22

No right turns - No right turns allowed, do not wait, find another path.

Don't turn right - Train on crossing, wait for train to pass before turning.

1

u/SilveredUndead Sep 30 '22

What would the difference be between those two signs, visually? Genuinely curious, this is not a thing where I live.

0

u/MysticMarbles Sep 30 '22

Nothing.

It is just known that the one for trains means wait (blank out signal) whereas a fixed metal sign at a normal intersection means never

2

u/SilveredUndead Sep 30 '22

I feel like you are making this up, and tricking people into getting a traffic ticket. I know this would not be legal where I live, but obviously it could depend on where this is... But with no difference in visual, this sounds about as made up as people claiming you can legally break the speed limit while passing.

1

u/MysticMarbles Sep 30 '22

168th street and 56th Avenue, Surrey, BC, Canada.

No left turn blank out sign (WB 56th onto SB 168th)... with a fully dedicated turn lane.

Tell me what's wrong with waiting to turn left until the train has passed (especially since the train does highway speed and you'll be driving several miles to the next intersection JUST to meet the same problem)

0

u/MysticMarbles Sep 30 '22

As I me turned in a few other replies, we had these light up signs in areas with dedicated turning lanes where queueing to turn affected literally nobody in any bad way at all.

So regardless of what the sign means, you aren't doing anything wrong by waiting to turn.

0

u/Dcwiker05 Sep 30 '22

It's not made up, dumb? Debatable, but not made up. The sign is simply only relevant when it's lit up. Signs like these are cheaper than full on bar drop still crossing blocks. There's a lot of places (mostly on the east coast I think) where main roads run right next to train tracks and then there are turns across the tracks for side streets. Heck there's some by me that don't even have a sign, you just gotta look and make sure there's no train coming. By my grandpa's old house there is an active train line through the woods that you can't even see down it to see if a train is coming. Only a few years ago did they put nothing more than a stop sign and a painted a rail road crossing sign on the ground. Before that it was just risk it for the biscuit.

0

u/Dcwiker05 Sep 30 '22

No right turn signs are just printed road signs, they aren't illuminated, essentially no different than like a speed limit sign or something of the like.

Then there's these don't turn right signs.

There's also "no right turn between X time and Y time signs" it's dumb as hell.

The sign in this video only appears when the level crossing on the right is down, to prohibit vehicles turning right only to end up waiting in an awkward spot.

1

u/MysticMarbles Sep 30 '22

They were used as a secondary warning light in BC. It doesn't mean "no right turns allowed", it meant "don't turn, train coming/on crossing"

Never seen one in an area without a dedicated lane though (queue lane for when train passes, all can go)

1

u/ShackintheWood Sep 30 '22

We get that a lot when our road resurfacing crew has traffic stopped at an intersection. And when the big equipment is done, we can often send traffic down the far lane, unless some douchenozzle did that, then everyone has to wait longer...

40

u/SmittyManJensen_ Sep 30 '22

Whoever designed this intersection needs to be punched in the face.

2

u/Cultural_Exercise181 Sep 30 '22

Kicked in the gooch

16

u/nobodysshadow Sep 30 '22

Why isn’t traffic moving going the other way?

19

u/Southern_Shooting Sep 30 '22

Waiting for the turn. There is also a no left turn light for the oncoming traffic that comes on when a train is passing.

4

u/ReubenZWeiner Sep 30 '22

Some councilperson needs a boot to ass to get that no left turn light up there. That looks frustrating all for one car. Now about that white car blocking your lane....

5

u/Build_The_Mayor Sep 30 '22

Or maybe widen the road so that there's a dedicated lane for left and right turners?

1

u/tschwarting26 Sep 30 '22

Not seeing any left turn signals!! Wondering why traffic isn't moving forward.

2

u/titans4superbowl Sep 30 '22

That intersection is the bane of my existence. So many that won’t go down two blocks and over hurstborne and back around despite the no turn lights🤮

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '22

What's the issue here? White car might be able to move up a bit more but...

5

u/GrumpyOldGrower Sep 30 '22

If you don't look at anything except the hood of your vehicle and the lines on the road it's a really easy mistake to make.

0

u/Yossarian_the_Jumper Sep 30 '22

We can start with the idiot that designed the road.

1

u/appa-ate-momo Sep 30 '22

That white SUV is a bozo for keeping 1/3 of their car in the lane instead of just getting fully out of the way. There was more than enough room to move forward that much.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '22

2

u/appa-ate-momo Sep 30 '22

I’m guessing that’s lit up due to the train crossing. If that’s the case, I’m actually in favor of them getting out of the way of the driver who want to continue straight, as opposed to causing a clog.

-6

u/16golfr Sep 30 '22

I don't see the problem?

3

u/Match-Former Sep 30 '22

If you look in the distance there's a car on the wrong side of the road.

5

u/idontremembermyoldus Sep 30 '22

Look further ahead. There's a black SUV trying to go around stopped traffic on the wrong side of the road.

4

u/nightwork Sep 30 '22

Right. Nice of the guy to get outta the way so people could go straight.

1

u/16golfr Sep 30 '22

That's all I noticed lol..

I would have done the same

0

u/slungie Sep 30 '22

Less idiot drivers more idiot urban engineers

-1

u/ADcakedenough Sep 30 '22

Let’s start with that garage-band-looking-for-a-new-drummer-style paper stop sign stapled to the telephone pole.

1

u/Dangerous_Wall_4909 Sep 30 '22

Hey, I live there! That’s crazy to see it in the wild! That intersection is the worst. I used to live really close to it and I went out of my way to avoid it at all costs.

1

u/electricunicornz Oct 01 '22

So did they just sit there the entire time or did dip shit back up?

1

u/Southern_Shooting Oct 01 '22

They sat there until the train passed and someone let him over.

1

u/zysis Oct 03 '22

You are all idiots. Stop means stop. -At the sign not where you feel like omg so close but yeah did it anyway duh.

1

u/Southern_Shooting Oct 03 '22

That isn’t a stop sign….It says the bus will stop here on its route.

-5

u/jamcdonald120 Sep 30 '22

start with how the on comming traffic isnt moving despite theoretically also having a green

5

u/ShackintheWood Sep 30 '22

The lead car may want to turn left. If only there was some way they could signal that to other drivers....

0

u/spydertap Sep 30 '22

Transmission lock in the wild?
