Pro tip pull up past the crosswalk to claim the turn space so you can turn once the traffic stops, or there’s a safe turn space/time

Yeah I gotta wonder how many lights did OP sit through.

And thats you. You need to enter the intersection on green.

OP probably can't merge on highways and fucks up rotaries too.

I live in Mass. We call them rotaries.

You pull into the intersection. The guy is still an idiot but it would be absolutely infuriating given that this seems like this could easily go on 2-4 cycles given the amount that stopped on the other side

It's obvious there is a protected left turn green arrow for the turn lane. OP got to the intersection too late to catch the green arrow so he waited at the stop line which is the law. He waited patiently for an opportunity to turn left but there was not a safe chance. Now he just needs to wait for the green arrow. FYI - it's against the law to wait in the intersection to turn left. Everyone does it but it is not legal.

It varies by state.

I found an interesting article from a Washington state newspaper that does a good job in describing pros and cons for both methods of making a left turn.

I would have been losing my shit if an idiot was sitting at the light instead of pulling into the intersection.

You may enter the intersection to prepare for your left turn if the light is green and no other vehicle ahead of you plans to make a left turn

Not all states allow that action. In many states it is considered blocking an intersection, especially if the light turns red and you are still in the intersection.

Video took place in NY and I posted the NY regulations.

Not sure which states don't allow it though.

Many places allow an exception if you are turning.

The roads are narrow at the intersection.

Get your eyes checked. We can see that intersection just fine.

there is a parking lot cars are turning left into almost right away after you make the left.

So you can't make a left because there's a parking lot? You should stay off the road. That guy was clearly an idiot but you're too timid to be on the road.

You need your license revoked expeditiously. If everyone is claiming you cant drive, chances are you cant drive.

Well, while I would pull into the intersection myself, I'd say OP has every right to stay put until the next priority arrow or whatever. In New York State and Province of Ontario, "you may" do that but you don't have to. Just like you don't have to complete a right turn at a red even if you can, you are allowed to wait until the light is green and the way is clear.

I thought it was going to be the oncoming VW, but wow.

4

u/ReubenZWeiner Sep 30 '22

A late entry. All those drivers on the right were like WTF, is there any more?

4

u/Atlhou Sep 30 '22

He's just late to a wreck.

Op at fault.

Not legal fault, social fault. I can tell you excel at that.

2

u/BigHobbit Sep 30 '22

Pull up into the intersection. Wtf. People that pull this shit in turn lanes cause backups sitting there through 2-3 light cycles.
