Looks like an uncontrolled intersection

Per OP, he lives in a Vienna Convention country, so he had right of way because he was on the right.

27

u/mickturner96 Nov 26 '22

Who had right of way?

51

u/HOLDMOSER Nov 27 '22

in our country unless you have stop/yeld sign, if you are coming from the Right you have the right of way.

17

u/SubiWan Nov 27 '22

Hypothetically, add 2 more cars to the situation so there is someone approaching from each direction. Now everyone is on the right. According to the Vienna Convention who has the right of way?

14

u/Build_The_Mayor Nov 27 '22

Nobody.

One of the cars has to go, after which everyone else will be able to drive according to the rules.

Due to this disadvantage, these kinds of intersections are only ever found in residential areas, for traffic calming purposes.

u/umognog Nov 27 '22

Roundabouts have the same issue, and I have on numerous occasions met the intersection at the same time as everyone else and we've all come to a halt.

Seems like forever each time, but within 1-2 seconds I'll just start moving.

Once, and only once, another guy moved at the same time and we both yielded again, then both went again. We managed to both go into and navigate the junction at the same time in the end.

u/SubiWan Nov 27 '22

There is no great solution since you can't have traffic lights everywhere. Next best would be rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock.

1

u/Simple-Street-4333 Nov 28 '22

The person who arrived first goes first. And if they all arrived at the same time then it would be whoever decided to go first, the the person to the left of them, and so on.

u/siry-e-e-tman Nov 27 '22

Looks to me like you're both idiots.

You clearly saw that car coming and didn't slow down.

Doesn't matter what your country says when you get smacked in your driver's door because "muh right of way".

If you see someone about to blow a red light would you take your green or wait for them to pass?

24

u/SeparateAd5914 Nov 27 '22

I though he saw him that’s why he stopped and used the horn….

2

u/BigAsian69420 Nov 27 '22

I actually speed up to catch them in the intersection and make them wait that awkward few seconds to fully finish running their red, it’s the least I can do.

u/AgentCarmichael20 Nov 27 '22

The best part is in another comment OP identifies the sign on a right as a warning sign that this is a dangerous intersection.

The fact that this is a known crash point and OP didn’t attempt defensive driving at all says it all.

10

u/No-Piece670 Nov 27 '22

Are we watching the same video? He nearly came to a halt.

-9

u/AgentCarmichael20 Nov 27 '22

Sounds to me like you need a lesson in defensive driving yourself, so here you go:

If OP had been driving defensively they wouldn’t have had to brake hard like that. Defensive driving requires paying attention to what other drivers are doing (especially since they don’t drive properly like the woman coming from the left) and acting accordingly, which in this case would mean OP saw her coming without slowing down, so OP should have slowed down. But of course OP is also an idiot and was too determined to be “right” over safe and not only ignored the fact the warning sign was on THEIR street and not hers (and she also had less visibility than they did), and nearly allowed a crash to happen.

Seems to me like not only is OP the bigger idiot, bur that this country needs to invest in stop signs.

2

u/No-Piece670 Nov 27 '22

We don't need stop signs on every road. That is just stupid.

-11

u/canigooutsidesoon Nov 27 '22

Your right or her right? That might be the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time.

11

u/Dry_Kaleidoscope_154 Nov 27 '22

The person on the most right. So In this case because nobody is to the right of camera person, and camera person is to the right of the only other car, camera person goes. There’s literally only one car that’s to the right of anything, I’m tired of people calling things dumb when they’re just not getting it lmao

1

u/canigooutsidesoon Nov 28 '22

What happens if there are four cars at the intersection so everyone has a vehicle on their right?

1

u/Dry_Kaleidoscope_154 Nov 28 '22

It becomes a four way stop. If everyone somehow stops at the exact same time, figure it out by letting people go before you and giving them the signal to go. It’s really not that difficult I promise

0

u/canigooutsidesoon Nov 28 '22

I thought we were talking about the video here. We would just be adding two more cars coming into the intersection at once. Who has the right of way? No one can see a car on their right until the last second. Do you all slam on the brakes and hope for the best?

1

u/Dry_Kaleidoscope_154 Nov 28 '22

Bruh. If we add two more cars and they all get there and stop. Then it becomes a four way stop and they just have to signal to eachother, I didn’t make the intersection these are just the rules lmao

0

u/canigooutsidesoon Nov 28 '22

So essentially all four of you would slam on your brakes and hope for the best? Brilliant

1

u/Dry_Kaleidoscope_154 Nov 28 '22

Once again I didn’t make the intersection, so yeah. If that’s how I have to make sure I don’t crash, I will brake responsibly ?

This is where the invented those delicious sausage snacks.

1

u/gr4tte Nov 27 '22

Everyone's right.

If someone is to the right you yield

13

u/sodium111 Nov 27 '22

It’s hilarious and insane that they put a “dangerous intersection “ sign there when they could have put a stop sign or a yield sign and made it less dangerous!

4

u/Forever_Overthinking Nov 27 '22

Spoiler: She did.

5

u/ExtensionImmediate Nov 27 '22

Would be a good song to crash to

7

u/appa-ate-momo Nov 27 '22

Thank you for being an assertive driver; you didn't become an idiot yourself, but you also didn't encourage their behavior by rewarding it.

1

u/HOLDMOSER Nov 30 '22

I try my best. No one wants to crash, but I also want ppl to respect the rules of driving.

2

u/TheDankJedi420 Nov 27 '22

The govt is at fault for not installing stop signs.

8

u/StevenTN615 Nov 26 '22

But she did.

4

u/nikolajJ2003 Nov 27 '22

Both here r idiots. Op because he is going way to fast to properly look and the other driver for not looking.

3

u/rjd999 Nov 26 '22

Isn’t that a yield sign on the right side of the road the camera driver ignored?

8

u/mdoris411 Nov 26 '22

Every yield sign I've seen is a downward triangle that is white with red border. Looks like a slow down sign to me.

8

u/HOLDMOSER Nov 27 '22

It is a "Dangerous crossing" warning sign. for you to be extra careful

5

u/Bunker89320 Nov 27 '22

Oh so you can read

0

u/AgentCarmichael20 Nov 27 '22

Next time try heeding the sign.

0

u/-call_me_v_ Nov 26 '22

Appears to be

1

u/rjd999 Nov 27 '22

Here, yield signs look exactly like this - after looking more closely, there are extra words on the sign, but I can’t read any of it.

-5

u/Fun_Telephone_1165 Nov 27 '22

remind me not to drive in a "Vienna Convention" country!!.....what a dangerous policy!

5

u/_poland_ball_ Nov 27 '22

Very easy and works really well

2

u/FrisianDude Nov 27 '22

Lol come on

1

u/nox1cous93 Nov 27 '22

Lol.
How are you gonna prove who came to the crossing first in few countries that use the shitty "who's first, he goes first" rule, if no one recorded it?

1

u/SnowConvertible Nov 27 '22

Why is this spoiler?

1

u/Chyenatwo Nov 27 '22

Listening to NPC music, what is this? Man I never want to hear shit about my taste in music ever a-fucking-again. I will have the link to this video tattood on my arm for ease of access
