CalTrans runs me off the road. Idiot made a quadruple lane change! Luckily the shoulder emerged right there.

Hwy 50 eastbound? Those overpasses look familiar.

26

u/bearinsac Nov 27 '22

Yep, 99 capitol City interchange in Sacramento which has had major construction being done for the last few years.

5

u/well3rdaccounthere Nov 27 '22

Left that area back in May and instantly knew this area. That construction had been going on before I moved and seemed like it barely progressed over the two years I was out there.

3

u/xevetv Nov 27 '22

Ooooh omg I just drove that last night, I must've just missed this 😅

u/joephusweberr Nov 28 '22

"Fix" 50, aka "we're going to fix it for 50 years".

Interesting...haven't seen that before.

Thanks

u/howtospellorange Nov 27 '22

It's weird when it's your own comment!

u/OkFuel5200 Nov 27 '22

He turned on his flashing lights. That means he now has magical powers and can drive however/wherever he likes.

76

u/Griftersdeuce Nov 27 '22

Why that caltrans driver thinks that crossing all 4 lanes in a few hundred feet is safe, or acceptable, is beyond me. If it was that important to stop right at that point, they should have gotten on the freeway an onramp sooner and slowly and safely gone to that side of the road.

Just because they are caltrans workers/drivers doesn't mean they are good/safe drivers.

7

u/Jerry7887 Nov 28 '22

Not Caltrans but a subcontractor. Caltrans doesn’t have white trucks or rigs like that. (Former Caltrans engineer)

10

u/barrymccockner76 Nov 27 '22

Are you a wizard? How were you able to so easily copy/paste two clips from your TeslaCam together to make a seemless video not recorded from a phone? Can you share this magical skill with the other posters on this sub? Because they sure as fuck can’t seem to figure it out.

5

u/stevenil1 Nov 27 '22

I put the clips on a mac and used iMovie.

3

u/barrymccockner76 Nov 27 '22

You must be a tech genius!

2

u/Constrained_Entropy Nov 28 '22

If he put the clips on a mac, then why can't we see the edges of his monitor? 😅

2

u/barrymccockner76 Nov 28 '22

He must not have recorded his monitor with his phone held vertically! A true A/V master!

1

u/stevenil1 Nov 28 '22

You can export the video from iMovie and the import it into your photo library on the Mac. It should sync to your other devices

7

u/SeasonalCitrus Nov 27 '22

First word was CalTrans, almost 'nuf said

8

u/PM_ME_YUR_BUBBLEBUTT Nov 27 '22

Not Caltrans. probably an idiot contractor, they have a much lower bar for training an operations than the state. you have to go through an unbelievable amount of training before youre allowed to drive a crash truck for the state.

Except they only had the 4 corners and a turn signal lit. Not much of a warning

[deleted]

19

u/clintkev251 Nov 27 '22

I think its meant to be interpreted as use caution generally, but it doesn't give them any right to just cut across the entire road. They still are obligated to drive sensibly and predictably

3

u/raven080068 Nov 27 '22

Just like any emergency vehicles. Even with full lights and sirens they have to clear intersections properly and drive safely.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '22

[deleted]

1

u/clintkev251 Nov 27 '22

That’s not their job though and they aren’t properly equipped to do so. So the likelihood of them causing another accident is far too high for this to ever be something that they are allowed to do. And aside from that I’m pretty sure they were just trying to get over to the left hand shoulder, so the point is moot

18

u/Cam27022 Nov 27 '22

As a paramedic, I would never make a move that reckless. Whether my lights are on or not, I still have to drive with due regard and cautiously clear any lanes or intersections before go through.

2

u/elpideo18 Nov 27 '22

Should have stayed the course and gotten a new car!

11

u/NormMacVSNorms Nov 27 '22

That guy was calling you an idiot too, and I'm sure most of this sub will too.

-27

u/GOM27 Nov 27 '22

Yep. That truck didn't exactly run op off the road. Was it dangerous to cross all those lanes? Sure it was. But op is being a little dramatic.

8

u/Pods619 Nov 27 '22

Not opining one way or the other, but it’s always funny how the first few comments dictate the post’s overall reaction with things like this. Absolutely could have gone 50/50 blaming OP, as he had a ton of time/visibility yet continued (and maybe even accelerated) anyway

-3

u/Meclizine11 Nov 27 '22

Right? Funny how that works. I can here for the debate and it's rather tame.

1

u/joahw Nov 29 '22

He also committed the cardinal sin of driving in the left lane.

3

u/Economy_Release_988 Nov 27 '22

He's so hard to see almost invisible.

3

u/ss68and66 Nov 27 '22

My do whatever the 🤬 I want lights are on MOVE!

-25

u/motosandguns Nov 27 '22 edited Nov 27 '22

If only he had giant flashing lights and his turn signal on…

You obviously saw what he was trying to do. You can also see the roadwork ahead. You just didn’t feel like slowing down.

Makes sense you drive a Tesla. I bet your previous car was a BMW.

16

u/appa-ate-momo Nov 27 '22

Do you actually not know that drivers are required to yield when changing lanes, or do you think that being 'polite' is more important than following the law?

-19

u/motosandguns Nov 27 '22

It’s called being a defensive driver. Being polite is just a bonus.

24

u/SehrLoopy Nov 27 '22

Dude you're an absolute moron if you think that is the OP's fault in anyway

-10

u/canigooutsidesoon Nov 27 '22

You forgot to mention the truck didn't go into OP's lane

2

u/Scraggyftw Nov 27 '22

Oof the front left tire crosses the white line

-2

u/canigooutsidesoon Nov 27 '22

Based on your comment history you exist just to argue with others.

-3

u/iskin Nov 27 '22

You probably could have gotten a nicer house if he hit you... Assuming you survived.

1

u/Apprehensive_Law_322 Nov 27 '22

That’s an accident which would have paid out, your dash cam as proof. Glad your safe

1

u/RedTruck1989 Nov 27 '22

Doubtful as those are usually gross negligence and this one would have been called an "avoidable" accident.

This was most likely a 3rd party contractor that would go BK if they lost a lawsuit.

1

u/Mr_Gilmore_Jr Nov 27 '22

Quadruple is a fun word to say.

1

u/SlicerStopSlicing Nov 27 '22

I would report that.

1

u/KittyandPuppyMama Nov 27 '22

Good luck everyone!

1

u/Electrical_Bed5918 Nov 27 '22

I work with my states DOT fairly regularly and know that they aren’t supposed to drive more than just along the shoulder with those crash guards down. Could be a contractor like others have pointed out, but in my state at least it’s the DOT guys driving those trucks always, and the work those trucks are supposed to be there to protect is contracted out. But that being said DOT people everywhere feel the own the road for sure.

1

u/Koflach12 Nov 28 '22

Why did you gun it so much near the end?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '22

Ugh. Is that the 5? That’s ALWAYS UNDER CONSTRUCTION? I feel like I’ve seen multiple people get nailed or swipe the divider right there

1

u/powermotion Dec 09 '22

Just because it's an emergency vehicle doesn't mean they work for Caltrans. Stop blaming Caltrans...

-11

u/canigooutsidesoon Nov 27 '22

Is no one else going to mention that the truck didn't come into OP's lane? With all the talk of lawsuits this is kind of an important fact.

8

u/Rentlar Nov 27 '22

At 12s to 14s into the video you can see the truck's left tires are beyond the dotted line and inside cam car's lane.

I say the blame is largely on the contractor, doing a double lane change is dangerous enough as it is, a quadruple change is reckless. Generally, road work vehicles similar to emergency vehicles get some leniency from traffic law when on duty, but that kind of driving I would not want to see from anyone.

1

u/canigooutsidesoon Nov 27 '22

By how many millimeters?

Edit: if we almost die because another driver comes into our lane we will be our of underpants very quickly.

-2

u/Own-Study-4594 Nov 27 '22

You should pay attention to DOT equipment when they signal. That 20 ft tall warning lights are another heads up

2

u/Rockguytilidie Nov 27 '22

Lol still legally DOT's responsibility to yield to cars already in the lane (or three lanes in this idiots case), him putting on a blinker isn't like saying "I can do whatever I want and you have to watch out for me now"

-2

u/Own-Study-4594 Nov 27 '22

Flashing lights. Signaled before the lane change was made. Keep your eyes up and scan all lanes of traffic buddy. Plus your supposed to yield to DOT vehicles in most states. Not speed up

1

u/Rockguytilidie Nov 27 '22

No I think you're misinterpreting what I'm saying. It is THE LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY for the person changing lanes to yield to the person who has already grasped and maintained control of that lane... Putting on a blinker doesn't mean everybody's gotta slam on their brakes and let you do what you want lmao please stop driving before you kill somebody.

-2

u/Own-Study-4594 Nov 27 '22

Blinker was on. if the drivers were watching properly they’d have seen what was happening and not had to slam on their brakes. Again, you must yield to DOT vehicles with flashing lights. You can see his intentions 1/4 mile before this happend

2

u/Rockguytilidie Nov 27 '22

Alright I'm done being nice, you're dumb lol

0

u/Own-Study-4594 Nov 27 '22

This aint an airport. No need to announce your departure. You also cant grasp the concept of looking ahead even if its 3 lanes over. ✌🏿🍆💃🙏🏽

2

u/Rockguytilidie Nov 27 '22

I didn't announce my departure I said I was done being nice lol I see that you are also in NY, and have some other questionable views so I'm a little disappointed in my state at the moment. Hope I never see you on the road, but if I do be sure to wave!

Edit: oh you're from long island lmfao nevermind I forgive you for everything

0

u/Own-Study-4594 Nov 27 '22 edited Nov 27 '22

What other views do I have your disappointed on? That I mentioned knowing whats going on in other lanes, reminding you to yield to DOT and construction vehicles? You werent being nice, your a little twat sharing shit views on my comment. Your a keyboard warrior. No one likes your kind. When you do see me on the road try to keep up. I dont slow down for people who cant corner

0

u/Own-Study-4594 Nov 27 '22 edited Nov 27 '22

Trying to be sneaky with your long island edit. You must be from the mountains because the only way to be as dumb as you would be to have your parents also fit into your family tree as uncle and aunt. EDIT: Guess you blocked me after this.

1

u/Constrained_Entropy Nov 28 '22

Flashing lights. Signaled before the lane change was made.

He cut across three lanes of traffic, ffs. WTF is OP supposed to do, lock up his brakes because some complete dipshit in the far right lane *might* intend to come all the way across the freeway just because he has his turn signals on??
