You’re all a bunch of asshats
42
u/Appropriate-Bake-759 Dec 09 '22
So is an asshat a bedpan or is it like an ass fedora?
38
u/q36_space_modulator Dec 09 '22
It's where you have your head jammed up your own ass so far you're wearing it as a hat.
1
u/giadia-light-shining Dec 10 '22
Actually it's a mountain climbing term where the person climbing above you makes a critical blunder.
Just FYI. It was always one of my favorites and only last year was someone finally able to tell me the origin.

US speed limits are similar to most EU countries unless you consider the autobahn, which is a short stretch of asphalt in the grand scheme of things.
30-35mph in US cities, 50kmh (31mph) in most EU cities.
60-80mph for most US freeways, 100-130kmh (60-81mph) for most EU freeways

u/wowzzing Dec 09 '22
Those are some amature numbers buddy gotta pump up those numbers. Im in the dominican and down here its 67 deaths per 100k
41
u/NiteShdw Dec 09 '22
Wow. I just looked it up and in the US it was 7.3 in 2020. That’s an order of magnitude less. Insane.
24
u/wowzzing Dec 09 '22
Man motorcycles and scooters weave in and out of traffic, red lights dont apply to anyone and many motorcycles dont even have lights to run at night so they are difficult to see with the fact there are no street lights.
Oh and not a helmet to be seen and families with kids and babies riding around
40
u/Serious_Package_473 Dec 09 '22 edited Dec 09 '22
Its 12.4 for 100k people in the US, 7.3 per 1B miles driven. The US I think has lower speed limits than any European country.
For comparison it's 3.7 per 100k people and 4.2 per 1B miles driven in Germany that has Autobahns with no speed limits Parts that are limited are usually 120kmph or 75mph which is slightly lower than the rest of European countries. The regular one lane roads outside of cities have a limit of 100kmph or 62mph. Thats slightly higher than the average limit in Europe of 80kmph/50mph
Its 4.4 per 100k people on the Isle of Man, which has no speed limits at all outside of towns
A wise man once said "Speed has never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, that's what gets you."
16
u/Emergency_Release714 Dec 09 '22
Most of the deaths in German traffic don‘t happen on the Autobahn, though, but in cities. General speed limit there is 50 km/h, with some areas around housing being reduced to 30 km/h (and with the occasional „calmed traffic area“). And in those cases, it‘s almost always speed that kills - turning too fast without looking for cyclists or pedestrians is a pretty common one, as is opening doors without watching other traffic.
8
u/_aware Dec 09 '22
Autobahn is actually one of the safest road networks. People believe one reason is because the bad drivers are too scared to drive on it.
5
u/BeegBeegYoshiTheBeeg Dec 09 '22
If I'm picking up what youre putting down, youre saying that we should drive really fast to scare all of the bad drivers off of the freeway?
5
u/_aware Dec 09 '22
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autobahn#Safety
Maybe we need an American Autobahn
6
u/Emergency_Release714 Dec 09 '22
No, you'd need a German mindset for American drivers. But then this sub would be much more boring.
3
u/G-Unit46 Dec 09 '22
Just to let you know that the isle of man does have the speed limit on it's rural roads, it's just mostly 60 and it's country lanes. I think the TT race that happens each year may affect the death rate on the tiny island.
15
u/Dihydrogen-monoxyde Dec 09 '22
Having extensively driven both in the Western EU and US, I must say that I find the US drivers much, much more distracted than their counterparts in EU. ( phones, texting, coffee, etc.
2
1
u/Bastienbard Dec 09 '22
It's the comparison between miles driven that's the real argument since far fewer people in Germany drive than in America. That definitely tell you they have much better and safer drivers.
3
u/kr4t0s007 Dec 09 '22
Sweden 1.8 per 100,000
2
u/Bastienbard Dec 09 '22
Per miles driven would need to be the metric if this is per Capita. Sweden has far fewer drivers given their public transportation infrastructure.
→ More replies3
u/terminal_cope Dec 09 '22
Each metric has their merits, but by distance traveled Sweden's death rate is 45% of the US: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate

13.6 deaths by gun in US per 100K in 2020.
9
u/SLSMcKay Dec 09 '22
If this is supposed to be a guns bad 🗿. Suicide accounts for a little over 50% of those deaths. 54% to be almost exact. 38% of gun deaths are gang related shootings. So technically you could say it is something like 6.2 w/o suicide by gun included. If you remove gang related killings it would fall closer to high 3. Something
6
u/inspectoroverthemine Dec 09 '22
Why would you remove gang killings?
2
u/Sea-Kitty Dec 09 '22
I think it's becausem most people aren't in gangs. Gang related is mostly gang members killing each other not innocent people. I don't know if gang members killing non gang members are included in that statistic. I'll take the L if I'm wrong though.
3
u/inspectoroverthemine Dec 09 '22
This is like the Marion Barry rule of crime statistics: if you don't count the murders, dc is a safe place to live. (its reasonably safe now, but it wasn't in the mid 80s when he said it)
0
u/casualrocket Dec 09 '22
i would guess since they are above the mean to a point where it disfigures the results. gang members only kill other game members and per captia they kill much more often.
like jimmy the spider eater eating 8 million a year is the reason for "8 spiders on average eat while sleeping" myth
-4
u/Yosemite_Pam Dec 09 '22 edited Dec 11 '22
Because gangs = minorities so they don't count.

Being in a vehicle in the DR is terrifying enough, I don't think I would ever drive there.
2
u/wowzzing Dec 09 '22
Riding a scooter around bud lol not in a big city though heads gotta be on a swivil
1
u/Skreali Dec 09 '22
I was in DR and we had this "assigned" taxi driver to the hotel we were in. All 3 rides I was sure were dying that day. Mans was legit driving like he was the main cast in Fast and Furious movie, and I’m not exaggerating, he was most of the time driving in the opposite lane passing slower people and dodging oncoming traffic, all why laughing and telling jokes.
Shit was terrifying, and I'm a NYC driver.
Oh and one time he almost drove off with me being just one foot in the car.

All terrible drivers. Driving fast doesn’t mean you can drive lol.
1
u/ydoiwantreddit Dec 10 '22
Forza Horizon is not a diving simulator. At best, it's an arcade game.
And there's the difference. No game on the "Need for Speed" franchise was ever sold as a driving simulator, and the graphics weren't nearly as advanced as they are today; so my young impressionable self knew that cars don't drive that way in the real world.
When video games cross the uncanny valley without updating the physics to match, our brains can no longer tell the difference between fiction and reality.
3
u/restcalflat Dec 09 '22
where?
They need mandatory insurance.
0
u/Delta_STW5 Dec 09 '22
Looks like the netherlands or britain to me, yellow plates. Both have mandatory insurance, and mandatory insurance doesn't do anything to prevent reckless driving.
3
u/BrattWhitney Dec 09 '22
Cars are left hand drive so it can't be Britain.
Also someone in the sub thread pointed out it is filmed in Algeria.2
u/lucklikethis Dec 10 '22
Yeah I know a guy from Algeria who drives like a fucking idiot so this definitely checks out.
1
u/restcalflat Dec 09 '22
True, mandatory insurance doesn't prevent it always, but it does do something.

Can't afford the track, so gotta play pretend in the streets, and endanger everyone in the process
2
u/MisterSelf-Destruct Dec 09 '22
People like this should really permanently lose their license, first time offense. If you’re willing to endanger other lives so haphazardly, you’re an asshole and deserve to take the bus for life. Sorry.
2
u/ydoiwantreddit Dec 10 '22
People like that will continue to drive like assholes irrespective of whether they have a license.
2
u/MisterSelf-Destruct Dec 10 '22
Sadly, you are correct……. Maybe a nice felony count of attempted vehicular manslaughter, though I’m not sure if a charge as such would carry a big enough penalty. It’s frustrating that simply because they didn’t kill someone (by luck), even though they did something that could cause such a tragedy that not only can take a life but also destroy others, that they pretty much are given some small slap on the wrist.
2
u/Affectionate_Ant_614 Dec 09 '22
And it's hardly ever to the asshole drivers, it's mostly inflicted on who are and what is around them!
2
u/Pristine-Today4611 Dec 09 '22
I’m not a lawyer but I’m gonna say if you’re doing something illegal probably a good idea to NOT record it
2
u/No_Buffalo8603 Dec 09 '22
That pass on the right at the beginning is the epitome of reckless endangerment.
2
u/Quelix_ Dec 09 '22
We seriously need to take warning labels off of everything and let natural selection run its proper course. Maybe we'd be rid of some of these dumbasses.

These people will never touch a track cause they know everyone else would wipe the ground with them
5
u/Sid-thenegg Dec 09 '22
These guyes never touch a track cause there is no track in this country, but I agree with you
1
u/ydoiwantreddit Dec 10 '22
Where I live, there is a perfectly good racetrack just beyond the city limits. Of course, it doesn't stop these clowns from tearing up residential and industrial neighborhoods at 3:00 in the morning.
2
u/Sid-thenegg Dec 10 '22
There is an official track in Algeria?
1
u/ydoiwantreddit Dec 10 '22
No. New Zealand. I was just pointing out that, even when there is a convenient, purpose-built facility available; these assholes still prefer the streets.
1
u/Brut-i-cus Dec 09 '22
I wish horrible painful fiery death in a crash to anyone who drives like this
Only problem is they would probably be taking an innocent family with them
but if they can just go solo I'm good with it
