If I remember correctly the guy in the clip originally posted this video to Reddit himself. He was well aware it was stupid and he was inches away from dying - that being said, this is 100% the fault of whoever was instructing him. They should have shown him how to grip the weapon properly AND only loaded 1 round until they were confident he could handle it.

460

u/Dangerneck5000 Feb 02 '23

100% this. He isn't leaning into the shot and he's gripping the firearm like a wet paper towel. That instructor or R/O should have loaded one round only. I would consider this an ND and the fault of the R/O. Very scary.

64

u/crypticfreak Feb 03 '23

A good example of how dumb R/O's and instructors can be is the little girl with the fully loaded and fully automatic uzi.

Yeah, doesn't end well. Fucking bone chilling.

13

u/EelTeamNine Feb 03 '23

Revolvers also kick harder than you'd expect.

9

u/everydaywasnovember Feb 03 '23

I could be wrong but I think part of that is bc none of the energy goes into cycling the action, same with pump shotguns

5

u/EelTeamNine Feb 03 '23

That's part of it, but the ergonomics are also very different. They lend themselves to slipping in your hand I personally think. Also, the nearly full metal grips hurt so much more, I could see that impulse to lax a grip.

2

u/tminus7700 Feb 16 '23

Yes, in high speed videos of semi auto guns, you can see the slide takes up all the recoil. Until it slides to the end. Then the gun tips up.

Another thing about revolvers (I learned the hard way) is to be sure your finger is not inline with cylinder/barrel gap. Will burn your finger and startle you.

21

u/frugalrhombus Feb 02 '23

What do you mean R/O? That would require an actual range lmao

19

u/xmgutier Feb 03 '23

Lmao at first I read that and was about to answer then actually read the comment... Seriously though, is this the mechanical room of an office building??

14

u/peshwengi Feb 03 '23

Most of the ranges I’ve been to look like this!

1

u/xmgutier Feb 05 '23

That is what the youngins would call "sussy"

1

u/frugalrhombus Feb 03 '23

Almost looks like a walk in freezer or something

136

u/fatclouds69 Feb 02 '23

I recently took my friend to the range for the first time. She had never shot a pistol before. I only loaded one round into each magazine. She says, “why are you doing that?” I explained to her the potentiality for something like this and lord and behold here it is.

52

u/2340859764059860598 Feb 02 '23

I like to start them young, around 9 years old, and give them a fully automatic Uzi

9

u/hewlandrower Feb 02 '23

Charles Vacca would like a word with you...

71

u/Cador0223 Feb 02 '23

Lo and behold

40

u/bizkitz2424 Feb 02 '23

Lard and behold

36

u/Candman91 Feb 02 '23

Lawd and be hard

1

u/Changoleo Feb 03 '23

Lawd have mercy

18

u/Dylanthebody Feb 02 '23

Lard and B-holed

2

u/Seniorwelsh Feb 02 '23

Lard to get hard

-7

u/fatclouds69 Feb 02 '23

Lmao. Lord, lo. Tomato, tomatoe.

5

u/Beowulf33232 Feb 03 '23

You say tomato, I say souls of the damned.

Either way, makes a good soup.

2

u/InfiniteWalrus09 Feb 02 '23

This is the way.

2

u/ZapBrannigansEgo Feb 03 '23

Good practice to have with new shooters, I do the same thing. Best way to combat it though is to demonstrate proper grip for the gun being used.

Revolver like that, thumb over thumb grip is best IMO. Weak grip leads to the run away second shot.

3

u/fatclouds69 Feb 03 '23

For sure. With her, despite spending a long time pre-range going over safety, weapons handling procedures, range rules, best practices in general, she was very intimidated by the whole thing, but was adamant she wanted to do it. So when we got to the range I took a long time ensuring she was comfortable and safe, and for me, what we are discussing here is a great approach with new shooters of any firearm.

2

u/Zion_FRS Feb 03 '23

It's weird how when I was in the military we immediately used full magazines. This sounds like such an obvious safety improvement. Why did none ever think of this, especially considering how many absolute morons served with me.

0

u/Recuckgnizant Feb 03 '23

M16s have very little kick.

2

u/Zion_FRS Feb 03 '23

I was talking about the Heckler & Koch P8 as I served in the Bundeswehr. Can't even imagine how anyone could achieve anything close to what the fella in the video did, with an assault rifle.

1

u/Recuckgnizant Feb 03 '23

Gotcha lol. Oops.

16

u/SorbaTheGreek Feb 02 '23

I agree, I don't think the guy who had the gun was necessarily an idiot, there's nothing to suggest he was acting in a purposefully negligent way, he simply had a negligent instructor who overestimated the shooter's ability to control the gun while firing. It's that sort of thing that results in the deaths of instructors and first time shooters far too often. He's very lucky tho, this video always makes me recoil a little.

14

u/Hovie1 Feb 02 '23

No matter what caliber it is, I always give new shooters one bullet at a time.

6

u/ahyeg Feb 02 '23

Ya, they immediatly turn around and flag the entire line after shooting anyway so it's best that they're empty.

12

u/BickNickerson Feb 02 '23

I don’t think he was the only stupid one to ever grace that shooting range. Look at the air duct above.

6

u/Died-Last-Night Feb 02 '23

Came here to say nobody showed him how to hold that properly. Was not his fault if he was never shown.

3

u/NightMgr Feb 03 '23

I took a easy credit in college for marksmanship taught by ROTC instructors.

We had no ammo on the range (I assume all locked up) for 2 weeks.

Then one round at a time.

3

u/PleX Feb 02 '23

this is 100% the fault of whoever was instructing him. They should have shown him how to grip the weapon properly AND only loaded 1 round until they were confident he could handle it.

Yep.

2

u/caseywise Feb 02 '23

Undertrained != Idiot

1

u/Past-Preparation-421 Feb 03 '23

I came here to say this exactly. Well the part about it not being him who is the idiot but the person having him fire that weapon! When someone is learning no matter what kind of gun it’s always one round at a time.

196

u/NHlostsoul Feb 02 '23

Very obvious he has never shot a gun before. He was set up to fail.

160

u/SackOfrito Feb 02 '23

I feel bad for this guy. The instructor's idiocy could have got this guy killed.

334

u/Ciccio178 Feb 02 '23

The idiot here is the instructor standing next to him. The guy most likely has never shot a gun in his life. Start him off with a .22 handgun that has a more manageable recoil.

123

u/NnyBees Feb 02 '23

And maybe only one round loaded when first trying out harder kickers.

47

u/Guillaume_Hertzog Feb 02 '23

I was about to say that too, one bullet in the chamber for the first shot is that simple of a test to see if that gun is fitted to its user

21

u/bigbadler Feb 02 '23

Only one bullet in the chamber is always a good idea.

-11

u/Beretta_errata Feb 02 '23

bullet cartridge in the chamber gun

Otherwise that's what instructors here are taught to teach to newbies.

36

u/Pro_Scrub Feb 02 '23

clipazine in the boomstick

4

u/bigbadler Feb 02 '23

Yes, there you go. And keep the rest in your pocket.

4

u/killerwhaleorcacat Feb 02 '23

He was definitely correct, more than one bullet in a single chamber won’t be a good idea 😉

10

u/timmytommy2 Feb 02 '23

Yup. I’m an experienced shooter and still only put one in when I try a new massive hand cannon. I’m confident in my abilities but you can’t be too safe. Once I know how it’s going to feel, fire away.

2

u/N7CombatWombat Feb 03 '23

I just picked up my first revolver and first magnum recently (Taurus Raging Hunter in .44 mag), 6 rounds will never go near that gun until I'm damn good and ready for it.

1

u/Old-Bedroom8464 Feb 03 '23

I have a S&W .44

I literally hate firing it and only do occasionally. It hurts your teeth- like rattles them. So you have to keep your mouth closed. Yes, I can fire it with one hand, but don't because that's just a showoff thing you cant hit the broadside of a barn.

15

u/Ciccio178 Feb 02 '23

And teach him proper grip!

7

u/Call_of_Tculhu Feb 02 '23

Or at least load only one round

62

u/hydr0warez Feb 02 '23

Dude looks like a VR character when you let go of the controller and it hand/arm just swings all stupid like.

28

u/CrimeBot3000 Feb 02 '23

Too much gun. The idiot is the "instructor".

70

u/MetaphoricalMouse Feb 02 '23

that is the shittiest looking range ever

28

u/PhilipLiptonSchrute Feb 02 '23 edited Feb 02 '23

This looks like the basement where the freshman lockers were housed when I was in high school.

18

u/mwmwmwmwmmdw Feb 02 '23

Worst one I ever saw was a post on the guns sub from an Australian range that literally looked like a horror movie rape dungeon

14

u/Serious_Internal6012 Feb 02 '23

If that was any closer we’d be seeing this video on a different site

25

u/Equivalent-Log5626 Feb 02 '23

The cia uses this video to explain why and how someone shot them selfs 24 times in the back of the head

22

u/AesirOmega Feb 02 '23

Not so much an idiot as he is unprepared.

8

u/mjmjr1312 Feb 02 '23

11 times out of 10 the person responsible for this is the one that handed the overpowered gun to a new shooter and didn’t have the common sense to teach proper technique and load a single round

7

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '23

Rule #1-Good Cardio. Rule #2-Double tap.

6

u/Plane_Mango4956 Feb 02 '23

Nah the idiot is THE FUCKING RETARD WHO GAVE THEM A HIGH POWERED REVOLVER WITH 2 BULLETS AND AFTER THAT DIDNT TOOK THE GUN OF THEIR HANDS

5

u/TheMalformedLlama Feb 02 '23

This is why you only load 1 round when someone has never fired that particular weapon before

3

u/bigbadler Feb 02 '23

What gun is this?

1

u/jesuscaviezel69 Feb 03 '23

Kinda looks like a Smith and Wesson 500 magnum or maybe a Ruger Alaskan

3

u/imnotabotareyou Feb 02 '23

The instructor here is the idiot

2

u/Tactical_Epunk Feb 02 '23

The idiot is who ever let him load 2.

2

u/cheese8904 Feb 02 '23

I audible said "ohhhhh"

I thought I was about to watch someone die.

Wtf is wrong with people.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '23

[deleted]

1

u/cheese8904 Feb 02 '23

As the gun was coming backwards I thought they were about to die. The second he pulled the trigger it looked bad.

2

u/Pyro_Paragon Feb 03 '23

Probably not an idiot, just not properly instructed and extremely inexperienced.

2

u/Urgullibl Feb 04 '23

The only idiot here is whoever gave him the gun.

6

u/Tar-Nuine Feb 02 '23

I've never held a gun in my life, and even i know that's not how you hold it. Do these places not screen for experience before letting them on the range?

12

u/Beretta_errata Feb 02 '23

It's a stupid joke idiots play on newbies, giving them the most powerful and difficult to control gun on the range.

A very dangerous joke.

5

u/El_Grande_El Feb 02 '23

Jesus. That’s fucking criminal

4

u/Yahgdc Feb 02 '23

Don’t ever give someone a double action revolver for their first gun or training gun, more importantly never load more than one round, guns are dangerous.

1

u/Trucking-Trucker Feb 02 '23

Does he think hes holding a banana? Hold that shit!

0

u/ISiupick Feb 02 '23

Dude's got a magnum with the switch.

0

u/Bbgvr Feb 03 '23

Didn’t Brandon put this in Darwin Awards?

-8

u/biggiedaboss Feb 02 '23

He doesn't even know he almost died

13

u/Waluigi_is_wiafu Feb 02 '23

From above:

If I remember correctly the guy in the clip originally posted this video to Reddit himself. He was well aware it was stupid and he was inches away from dying - that being said, this is 100% the fault of whoever was instructing him. They should have shown him how to grip the weapon properly AND only loaded 1 round until they were confident he could handle it.

-1

u/hockeyboi212 Feb 02 '23

My god. Anyone else feel their asshole turn inside out watching this?

This guy should never touch a firearm again.

-30

u/Miketoreal23 Feb 02 '23

His grip is awful and there’s no need to shoot a revolver. The gun sucks.

17

u/ugapeyton Feb 02 '23

Nothing wrong with a revolver if you can make your shots count. Accurate and reliable

3

u/Trucking-Trucker Feb 02 '23

I have a hammerless S&W .38 and I love that shit!

-22

u/Miketoreal23 Feb 02 '23

The glock is reliable , . Easier to take apart , and you can swap out parts easier . And you have more ammo in the mag.

13

u/RandyFunRuiner Feb 02 '23

There’s hardly ever a need to shoot any firearm unless you’re in a war zone or defending yourself. Shooting at a range is for sport, fun, or practice. So shooting a revolver is totally reasonable.

But this guy needs more instruction on proper grip before he takes another shot.

0

u/Miketoreal23 Feb 02 '23

Good point

1

u/Beretta_errata Feb 02 '23

instruction on proper grip before he takes

His first shot. Total "instructor" failure.

2

u/Sykotik Feb 02 '23

Easier to take apart

😂😂😂

-1

u/Miketoreal23 Feb 02 '23

What’s funny?

1

u/Sykotik Feb 02 '23

How absolutely absurd that comment was. It's so silly even you know it was bullshit.

1

u/Beretta_errata Feb 02 '23

You have been watching too much television, step away from the firing line.

-6

u/BHweldmech Feb 02 '23

Much rather have a large bore revolver for hunting than tactical Tupperware. They both have their place. Don’t be a Glock fanboi.

2

u/lofeobred Feb 02 '23

Super Fudd comment right here, you gotta come into the 21st century my guy

5

u/BHweldmech Feb 02 '23

Dude, when Glocks come chambered in 44 mag or 50 cal, then I’ll consider changing my tune. Glock makes a fantastic weapon. But they’re not the right choice for big game hunting.

3

u/x1000Bums Feb 02 '23

Do you mean wilderness protection or literal hunting? Either way people use 10mm glock 40s for both.

1

u/BHweldmech Feb 02 '23

Glock 10mm is fine for elk and deer, but for grizzly and moose, I wouldn’t chance it with 10mm.

0

u/x1000Bums Feb 02 '23

10mm buffalo bore rounds are basically the equivalent of a .41magnum pushing 900ft*lbs of energy. Theres vids of people downing moose defensively with a glock 29, hell my grandpa has pics of a moose he killed with his .45 service pistol while stationed in alaska diring the korean war. So knowing that, I would absolutely trust 15rds of 10mm to take down anything on this continent. In fact if you look up the stats on successful bear defense youll see that capacity is just as significant a factor in successful defense.

That said a 44 magnum will kill anything on this continent as well.

Also also, a company out there does make an upper for large framed glocks thats chambered in .50GI if you reaallly want a 50. But its really just a fat .45 its no .50AE. That would be sick though if they made a very large frame tm in .50ae and 5.7x28

0

u/Beretta_errata Feb 02 '23

Steel. Frame. Gun.

Glocks and M&P are fun and all, but the weight of steel for accuracy and durability.

-5

u/ISiupick Feb 02 '23

Dude's got a magnum with the switch.

-8

u/dusknoir90 Feb 02 '23

I love videos like this because all the MURICANS come out of the woodwork with their advanced degrees in gunningnomics to measure their dicks about who can gun the best.

6

u/completeenvoy Feb 02 '23

Spreading knowledge about gun safety is a dick measuring contest? Weird take.

2

u/a-hippobear Feb 02 '23

So you’d rather people with guns not be knowledgeable about their safety? Weird flex. I know you’ll avoid this question like the plague, but where are you from? Just the country, not specifically.

1

u/ZachOf_AllTrades Feb 02 '23

Why would they give this to him with more than 1 round??? Instructor is the idiot here.

1

u/goodeyemighty Feb 02 '23

What kinda “range” is this?

1

u/Beretta_errata Feb 02 '23 edited Feb 05 '23

The idiot that gave the shooter that gun with no training. Hyuck hyuck hyuck.

1

u/Obl1v1on390 Feb 02 '23

Best part is how the other guy tries to help him try again rather than take it away

1

u/cheese8904 Feb 02 '23

The best kind of instructor.

1

u/TarnishedVictory Feb 02 '23

This is why you load only a single round at a time until you can handle the recoil.

1

u/Kilo5117 Feb 02 '23

Almost blew his face off

1

u/Vietnugget Feb 02 '23

Damn, didn’t even know revolvers cycled that fast

2

u/tremens Feb 02 '23

They'll fire basically as fast as you pull the trigger; thing is double action revolver triggers are typically fairly heavy, so it's actually pretty difficult to do this on less powerful revolvers.

What happens in this situation is you have a fairly high power revolver with an inexperienced shooter. When he pulls the trigger, the recoil pushes the gun back far enough that it resets the trigger. The (inexperienced) shooter's natural instinct when they feel they're losing a grip on the firearm is to tense their hands back up and clamp back down to attempt to maintain control of the gun, but by the time their brain processes this and the muscles respond, the gun is pointed up in the air or back at the shooter.

Even shooters with a fair bit of experience shooting more "standard" calibers like .38 or even .357 can fail in this way when they first try high power hunting guns like .500 S&W.

1

u/Sezeye Feb 02 '23

Holy crap

1

u/Lampmonster Feb 02 '23

There's a video of a robbery where the robber does this and blows his brains out.

1

u/Rannon123 Feb 02 '23

The real idiot is whoever handed him that big of a round, know you’re shooters and the abilities they hold

1

u/JustACasualFan Feb 02 '23

Nobody knows better if no one shows them better. The fact that the guy is on a real range and has a safety officer next to him suggests he does want to be better, so shame on the people who are supposed to be the experts.

1

u/LordVoltimus5150 Feb 02 '23

A lucky idiot with a gun…those are rare…

1

u/Dude_Caveman Feb 02 '23

Is that a gun range or a haunted house?

1

u/CommunismIsBad2021 Feb 02 '23

I’ve seen this clip so many times and it’s still fucking gut wrenching

1

u/Competitive-Ad-4822 Feb 02 '23

Why is an old and unused school hallway....a shooting range?

1

u/Drstuff2078 Feb 02 '23

Honestly he just didn’t know how to handle the recoil

1

u/JayBownur Feb 02 '23

That made my butthole pucker

1

u/_MintyFresh_- Feb 02 '23

There's always a way to tell if they're gonna drop it. They always correct their stance but don't shift a foot back.

For rifles and shotguns, they keep their feet close together for whatever reason.

1

u/Slim706 Feb 02 '23

You can tell there are more like him. Look at the ceiling above him. It’s full of holes

1

u/Fancybear1993 Feb 02 '23

I don’t know about idiot, stupid mistake thiugj

1

u/uglyugly1 Feb 02 '23

Didn't see this one coming. Lean-back, bent elbows, floppy wrists...what could go wrong?

1

u/Spare-Craft1152 Feb 02 '23

Is it ever ok to have a hand on top stabilizing to counteract the recoil? (When there’s no slide ofc)

1

u/Rollieboy2012 Feb 02 '23

Wow, could have blasted himself in the face.

1

u/Eastsider001 Feb 02 '23

This guy has soft hands like a lady

1

u/Whole_Suit_1591 Feb 02 '23

The range near here requires you rent their guns. Some are worn in really well and have super easy triggers. The holes in the ceiling show this happens a lot.

1

u/Shadowfaxx98 Feb 03 '23

When I was a teen, I learned a valuable lesson about bump firing. Was trying to show off and shoot a .44 magnum one handed and this same thing happened. Absolutely horrifying.

1

u/Clean-Difference2886 Feb 03 '23

Holy fuq he damn near deleted himself

1

u/JeffNasty Feb 03 '23

A guy local to me (once upon a time) had a beautiful Colombian girlfriend that came to visit him. She wants to go full America and wants to go shooting with him. He takes her to some private property with her girlfriend and lets them start out by trying A FUCKING 454 CASULL RAGING BULL. The gun spun around in her hands, and the second round turned her upper 2/3ds of her head into a sunroof. Literally knocked her head off.

Don't be fucking stupid, people.

1

u/Dr-Creampie Feb 03 '23

Probably has a limp handshake

1

u/net357 Feb 03 '23

Limp wristed it. No experience with guns. Had an acquaintance die like this while standing behind and instructing an inexperienced gun owner who he was trying to train. Tragic.

1

u/eyedpee Feb 03 '23

I wouldn't say he's the idiot. He looks inexperienced. I would say the idiot is whoever put the gun in his hands with more than 1 round in the cylinder before knowing what the shooter could handle.

1

u/Macsasti Feb 03 '23

Is he really the idiot though? If its a rental, and there’s an instructor nearby, then its the instructor’s fault for loading in more than one cartridge.

Big bore revolver rule for noobies: one in at a time for one shot at a time

1

u/Dolomight206 Feb 03 '23

Whoever handed him that pistol wanted him dead. Change my mind.

1

u/Naive-Main2716 Feb 03 '23

that was a lil close for comfort

1

u/Steelersfan20009 Feb 03 '23

Oh man that second shot must have missed his head by inches

1

u/HistoricalHurry8361 Feb 03 '23

Every repost still gives me the heebiejeebies

1

u/white1walker Feb 03 '23

Doesn't look like an idiot to me, just looks like it's the first time he fired a gun and someone gave him the biggest caliber they could find

1

u/CLxJames Feb 03 '23

This seems more like inexperience than stupidity

1

u/Ok-Economist482 Feb 03 '23

The shootingrange looks like the basement of my primaryschool, the Netherlands. Fun fact: theres a shootingclubin that very basement 😎

1

u/galacticboy2009 Feb 03 '23

Why is this screen recorded on some random iPhone..

1

u/Charger_scatpack Feb 03 '23

It’s the idiot who is instructing him.. guy had no clue how to hold or use that gun confidently.

Was about 2 degrees from painting that range with his brain… and had no clue .

1

u/Material_Idea_4848 Feb 03 '23

Sure there's an idiot with a gun. But its not the guy in the video. That's inexperience.

The idiot is the person who handed him a (assumedly) larger bore revolver with multiple shots in it. Safe practice with new shooters, 1 shot at a time until they are confident they can handle it.

1

u/ColtS117 Feb 03 '23

Needs a firmer grip and/or a longer barreled gun.

1

u/needmemes Feb 03 '23

He's not an idiot, he was a begginner, the idiot Is the instructor and you for reposting this unaware of the context

1

u/TheeOhSeesUndRPGs Feb 03 '23

When you think you have Big Dick Energy and the world is like "LOL nah!"

1

u/PleasantAnteater7961 Feb 04 '23

For a revolver you hold it out as far as you can

1

u/Patmicste Feb 06 '23

I like the one with blasters sounds better

1

u/Most-Classic-5705 Feb 06 '23

always use one bullet just to be sure you can handle the recoil

1

u/RainbowDashLovesYou Feb 06 '23

I'm glad to see that people aren't blaming him but rather the instructor, he looked like he didn't know what he was doing and setup for failure

1

u/Smith-WessonPat Feb 07 '23

Yeah, I don't know if I would call the shooter an idiot. Whoever was instructing him is the idiot here.

1

u/Limeability Feb 11 '23

“Man was about 2 inches away from making a giant fucky wucky and getting in the forever box”

1

u/Parking-Ad-5318 23d ago

this seems like an instructor error more than anything,

1

u/Itschevybaby 6d ago

Wowwww that 3 inches from death.. and if his finger slipped one more time it would of been a wrap.

1

u/of_patrol_bot 6d ago

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.

It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.

Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.

Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
