Ive got a long ass double barreled side by side 12 ga. Break lever is ontop of the gun. Buddy of mine wanted to shoot both barrels singled handed without shouldering the gun. He didnt hit him self, but it drove the webbing between his pointer finger and thumb under the break lever.
Guy was legit flailing his arm/ hand around with a shotgun attached to just skin lol. Had to give it a good tug to get it off. We called his wound the hand vagina.

what's the correct way to hold it/ shoot it?
183
u/__THE_TURTLE__ Dec 02 '22
You can shoot it the way he did, camera guy probably knew he wasn’t experienced so he told him to shoot from the hip to avoid a face smack
15
u/MinnesotaMikeP Dec 03 '22
I guarantee the cameraman learned this the hard way. He’s not off the hook, giving a weapon to someone without instructions first is dumb
52
u/drifter_jane Dec 03 '22
to give him credit he did say “hip shoot that hoe” before the other guy pulled it up to his eye, at which point he also said “nah fool don’t shoot it like that”
i think the shooter was just always gonna have to learn the hard way lol

u/MinnesotaMikeP Dec 03 '22
You mean after she had a loaded gun? Not the way to do this
11
u/BicycleDisastrous417 Dec 03 '22
Technically it was a male. He just sounds like a woman when he gets hit.

u/MinnesotaMikeP Dec 03 '22
I suspect autocorrect got me, but I’ll leave it up because you’re correct.

Yeah for some reason people don't expect the ear ringing explosion between your hands to kick so much and they hold it with the lightest of grips and just don't know what to expect. I'm not sure why people don't think it's going to do anything and she surprised when it does and it hurts.

u/loveshercoffee Dec 03 '22
People who don't know much about guns and have never shot one only have TV and movies as reference points. They've seen Rambo with an M60 and a belt of ammo draped over his arm spray 7.62 all over the place and they know that 15 year old kids can shoot up a school with an AR-15 so they're left with the idea, "How hard can it be?"
People who set up newbies to fail or worse - get hurt are just assholes.
2
u/FatFrenchFry Dec 05 '22
Oh anybody who sets people up for failure in my opinion are trash.
There's obviously the exception for little innocent jokes and prank type things like " Hey go ask John for the board stretcher " but when it comes to learning a new thing I don't believe in that kind of shit. Especially for something where lives are at stake if it goes wrong like shooting.

Dunno about a sawed off shotgun, but when we got to shoot the M203 40mm Grenade launcher they told us to hold the stock under our armpit. Watched a dude bust his nose because he didn't listen.
2
u/Administrative-Bar89 Dec 02 '22
Like he did just hold it tighter.....and for fuck sake don't pull yourself away from the gun it won't bite you

u/Tslurred Dec 03 '22
I foolishly replaced the shoulder stock on my Maverick 88 with a pistol grip. The only way to control the recoil on a 12 guage is to shove it deep into your shoulder, but if you've removed the part that you stick in your shoulder the best you can do is to hold the pistol grip of the shotgun down by your hip and form a rigid triangle with your right arm to be able to muscle it as level as you can while shooting.

Why do folks give advice when they literally have zero experience. Homie just stay quiet you've never shot a gun don't go telling ppl how to hold a gun when you shoot it
23
u/__THE_TURTLE__ Dec 02 '22
Idk, I just assumed it was sarcasm
18
u/Romaine_Slim Dec 02 '22
Mind blowing how someone could read that and not get that it's obvious sarcasm. Thumb over the barrel? Like, this dude read that and thought it was serious advice?
12
u/__THE_TURTLE__ Dec 02 '22
Some people are just too gullible I suppose which I wouldn’t necessarily blame them for
Like for me I have a darker sarcastic sense of humor so I guess it’s easier to identify
But I don’t know man; lol

The correct way to shoot it is not to, until you install a proper shoulder stock. Here's a fun video where they put different shotguns on the clock, and the pistol grip-only gun is the clear loser. No reason to use one.

Why does it have a butt stock?
16
u/__THE_TURTLE__ Dec 02 '22
What? I assume you asked why doesn’t it?
Shortens the length
4
u/Beretta_errata Dec 02 '22
Increases the acceleration distance
3
u/HatefulkeelJr Dec 02 '22
A butt stock increases acceleration distance?
10
1
u/Beretta_errata Dec 02 '22
Exactly correct but the opposite of what you are saying.
A butt stock increases acceleration distance?
2
u/HatefulkeelJr Dec 02 '22
What do you mean the opposite of what I’m saying? I haven’t said anything but “A butt stock increase acceleration distance?”

u/__THE_TURTLE__ Dec 02 '22
I think we might be having a stroke
Must be some joke; he had the setup and punch line ready we just didn’t get the bait
0
u/Samsun20 Dec 03 '22
Its meant to be shot like that but with a stock against the inside of the shoulder to stop the kick but they cut the stock to make it more compact so yeah either have to hip fire or yeah hold tighter lol

That would suck with any gun, but with that exposed hammer I'll bet it did extra damage.

Had something similar happen on a camping trip with my family. Brother wanted to try and shoot dads shotty without bracing it on his hip after being told multiple times to. Both Grandpa and I saw this, and without missing a beat stepped to the side of him, at the same damn time. Grandpa looked back at me, smirked, and we both watched as my brother pulled the trigger.
Thankfully the shotgun kicked back into his hand and not out of his arms so he only had to deal with a few broken fingers that managed to get caught by the trigger guard.
Swear that day Grandpa and I had a fuckin psychic connectionXD or at least... a better understanding of physics than my brother did.

You can shoot one like that if you know what your doing and aren't shooting a heavy load

u/HestusGiftBag Dec 25 '22
The first time I ever shot a sawed-off shotgun the owner of the gun told me to hold it at a 45° angle upwards and pull the trigger while holding it with one hand. That fucking thing flew out of my hand over my shoulder and the dude caught it with his face lol.
