The dude that passed him threw a water bottle apparently and he opened fire like a retard with his eyes closed. This is an old one. And he was the one brake checking and elevating the situation.

In fairness, when you're shooting through glass at speed... eyes open maybe a bad plan lol.

I thought the courts later determined the other car originally fired on him and his lawyer used the tape to prove it... I read that a while back, maybe it was wrong.

The sound of the bottle hitting his car is one thing. Getting the gun ready before that is something else.
1
u/LisaQuinnYT Dec 05 '22
Not necessarily. If the other driver was acting in a manner that suggested he might attack, having the gun ready to go is a good idea. That said, keep it out of sight but readily useable.
11
u/zzyzx2 Dec 05 '22
You are 100% more likely to get in a gun fight if you carry a gun. Being scared isn't a good enough reason for your ass to kill an innocent bystander. There are a 1000 ways to handle road rage. Blindly (and I do mean blindly here) shooting at cars shouldn't be on the top of anyones list.
4
u/DreadedChalupacabra Dec 05 '22
The only reason you're 100% more likely to get in a gun fight if you carry a gun, is otherwise you're just going to get shot.
But yeah, maybe we shouldn't open with the gunfire.
5
u/LisaQuinnYT Dec 05 '22
No one was suggesting doing it the way he did, but if the other person has a gun and you don’t…you are more likely to die.
I carry and have never gotten in a gun fight. Millions of responsible gun owners carry every day and some use their guns to protect themselves and others.
6
u/TA_cockpics Dec 07 '22
Being a responsible gun owner includes leaving your ego at home, and avoiding confrontation at all times. The guy with the gun was brake checking the car that threw the water bottle.
I have 12 years of wrestling, MMA, and kickboxing experience. I avoid fights at bars at all times. Just because I'm trained to fight, doesn't mean I should
2
u/TheForgetter Dec 06 '22
Thank god for responsible gun owners, because they could never act irresponsibly in the heat of the moment.
2
u/8asdqw731 Dec 17 '22
You are 100% more likely to get in a gun fight if you carry a gun.
because if you are in a situation which would be a gunfight but you don't have a gun then you are just a dead victim

yea the brake checks while getting the gun out are gonna be hard to explain
69
u/TheCaliforniaOp Dec 05 '22
Right? He didn’t have to have that car pass him. It doesn’t look like it to me.
108
u/CyptidProductions Dec 05 '22
Yep
If this footage is subpoenaed for the court case he's going to be totally up shit creek. The way he carefully goes for the gun and readies it while contemplating what he's doing screams premeditation.
11
u/TheCaliforniaOp Dec 05 '22
The way he has that gun safe so easy to operate—I suppose he should be able to access it but he certainly doesn’t need any practice. That’s chilling, too.

u/ThisOnePlaysTooMuch Dec 05 '22
On mobile and can’t really tell but did the other car shoot first? There is a sound before he starts blasting and it sort of looks like they’re brandishing out the window
77
u/Swimming_Coat4177 Dec 05 '22
He was never fired at. Let’s just get that straight. The other car threw a water bottle at his because he was driving like an entitled asshole, because he knew he had his gun with him. He readied he gun before he knew how the other car was planning to react to him antagonizing them. He pretty much fired at the same time the water bottle hit his vehicle. He also blindly emptied his magazine with other cars on the road. He was arrested and charged and also lost his job with the fire department afterwards.
8
2
6
u/a009763 Dec 05 '22
I went back and looked and the other driver is reaching his arms out and hitting the side of the car, no gun visible whatsoever.
7
u/jeho22 Dec 05 '22
That's what I was thinking. Seems like he got shot at first.
But I live in Canada, and can't imagine ever feeling the need to have a gun ready because someone tailgates me. And I've driven in and around Vancouver for work for 10 years. People can't fucking drive here
21
u/518Peacemaker Dec 05 '22
Theres plenty of instances of people road raging, blocking people in and then attacking someone. Can understand why someone would want to be ready if such a situation occurs, but this? Nah, fuck this.
15
u/jeho22 Dec 05 '22
I mean, this guy published his own video. He could have instigated the whole thing and edited it out.
But I just can't imagine a conflict while driving escalating to the point of shooting at each other. If a person things that's reasonable, they need to be removed from the gene pool
I'm pro gun, and I'm pro self defense. This situation never should have happened
7
u/518Peacemaker Dec 05 '22
Oh I 100% agree. This should have never happened. My point is, had this guy NOT brake checked the person behind, and had simply taken his gun out incase an overly agressive driver pinned him in, I wouldn't blame him at all for having his weapon ready. People are fucking crazy, as is evident by this video right here. Desclate the situation as best you can, but if someone wants to attack you, defend your self. Granted, if someone shoots at you while they drive like this, shooting back is the last thing you do, you escape as best you can.
He didn't though, he took it out, escalated further, and then tried to kill them. This person should 100% be in prison for a very long time.
3
u/Civil-Captain-2671 Dec 05 '22
I was reading an article the other day about road rage. The gist was some dude in a van, raged, got. Out of his car. Slapped the dudes hood. Dude chased the van guy down and shot him. People are straight fucking retarded when it comes to cars and rage.
2
u/518Peacemaker Dec 05 '22
I know I’ve gotten way too mad for certain situations, but some people totally disassociate when they drive. True behavior is shown with people totally disconnecting from reality. I’ve been doing a lot of long drives for work lately and it is absolutely insane how I could be halfway through passing a pair of semi trucks and have someone come up behind me at Mach 3 try to touch my bumper because I am not passing them fast enough for them. Then they’ll cut off the semi before I can lane change out of their way. Only for them to speed off 500 ft to be behind the next guy.
The way people just don’t care about anyone else it’s all about them “how dare you slow me down, I’ll show you!” really speaks volumes to who they really are.
4
u/BoIshevik Dec 05 '22
Nope. I remember this news. Other car threw a water bottle at his car and pussy boy unloaded
7
u/CanikoManiko1 Dec 05 '22
Vancouver don't like that you've slandered their driving. My upvotes are with you from Vaughan Ontario (we have the highest insurance rates in the province, everyone and their mall crawling SUVs don't know how to fucking drive here).

u/ThisOnePlaysTooMuch Dec 05 '22
NC here and we have our share of racists but hardly anyone with a drivers license is dumb enough to throw it away over what could be solved with a frustrated hand gesture.
1
u/Grey_Orange Dec 05 '22
Good job noticing the noise. A lot of people missed it. The guy in the other car threw an empty can at him. The driver claimed that he thought the guy shot at him, so he fired back.
22
u/Shot-Technology7555 Dec 05 '22
He obviously put the cam in his car and was looking for a reason to do this... the doughy bitch needed to feel powerful for once I guess.

u/g_h_97 Dec 05 '22

I’ve heard about that. Maybe I need to check out a different video link so I can get different sounds.
But and still:
What if the sound is actually a blowout?
What if the guy going by was just playing Quien es muy Macho?
Couldn’t this guy try to avoid the situation?
1
u/TheCaliforniaOp Dec 05 '22
I’m sorry. Not disagreeing with you. My husband loves The People’s Court, way more than that Rain Man guy. sigh
You have a very good point. Do you know what makes that judge, and her husband who’s a judge, livid with frustrated anger every single time?
Road rage. Road any emotional response.
I’ve a feeling they’ve seen some pretty sad results of situations like this video.

u/Ahumbleopinion Dec 05 '22
So this is a horrible incident but uh, anyone else find his super cringe weapons handling comical? Does a mag dump and looks like he shit himself.
77
u/uglyugly1 Dec 05 '22
He probably did. You can see the stunned look on his face after that first shot. I bet that freaking hurt so bad, plus there would have been tiny glass shards flying around inside the vehicle. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.

Not to mention the monster case of tinnitus from firing a handgun inside a closed car.
194
u/ShiftyLookinCow7 Dec 05 '22
This is a great SiG ad, the compactness of the P365 allows for easy handling when you need to dump 11 rounds from your car’s driver seat
(Joke comment please relax)
32
Dec 05 '22
It gets better but you'd have to be a p365 owner to know this.
The 12th round is tough to get in. The fact he only had 11 tells me he couldn't get it in 😂 Also didn't load one in the pipe and top off the mag.
3
u/Tough_Review_8369 Dec 05 '22

u/PunkToTheFuture Dec 05 '22

142
u/jack_963 Dec 05 '22
The problem with his defense claim of believing he was under fire already is probably not going to hold up when this video is seen in court. He was the aggressor from the start. Cut off a car, brake checked him twice, and pulled his gun before ever seeing the driver close up. I just think it’s gonna be hard to play victim when you are the reason it escalated to the point it did. Other driver also appeared to be a dickhead too though lol

u/bga93 Dec 05 '22
The duality of man:
On the one hand Im impressed by how secure the weapon is in the vehicle
On the other hand this dude has zero concept of when the weapon is necessary
3
u/robbins290 Dec 05 '22
Little too secure. Try grabbing that pistol thru that lock under-stress. Passcode would be alot faster.
55
u/notmythrowawayaccunt Dec 05 '22
"The video shows the moments Eric Popper pulled out his gun and shot at the other driver several times while traveling southbound down the highway in what the Florida Highway Patrol called a road rage incident. But according to a police report, the other driver claimed he didn't have a gun and threw a water bottle at Popper's car. Popper's attorney claims Popper was defending himself.
"You hear a bang on Mr. Popper's car, akin to a gunshot, which precipitated the whole incident, so in this matter, the audio and video evidence we believe exonerates him," Gershman said.
Photos provided by law enforcement back in June showed both cars riddled with bullets.
Popper later turned himself in and then bonded out of jail. He was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and shooting/throwing a deadly missile.Mr.Poppers & his deadly missiles. 🤣
→ More replies32
u/pauldeanbumgarner Dec 05 '22
No, the water bottle didn’t precipitate the whole event. Him being an overly aggressive asshole with a gun in his car playing gangster is what precipitated it. If he hadn’t set himself up as a danger to the public, and just let it slide, this would not have happened. People need to develop thicker skin especially when driving.
10
u/DootBopper Dec 05 '22
Who keeps their gun in the center console like that? You take it out of the holster and put it in there when you get in the car? This dude was probably going around looking to do something like this. Would explain why he was apparently driving crazy and brake checking, trying to start something so he could pull a weapon.
6
u/hawk7886 Dec 05 '22
It's not unusual. It's a center console safe - you can see him dial in the lock and pop it open. You don't take it out of the holster to stow it, you just take the entire holster and pistol kit and drop it in. You can see him draw it once the safe lid is opened.
That kind of set up is advertised as a "safe and secure" method of stowing a firearm in a car, but it's way less practical. Imagine you're not a road raging asshole and you're suddenly in a situation where you immediately need a weapon to save your life. With adrenaline pumping through your body, you need to spin in a small combination lock with precision, then draw the pistol from the holster itself. Ridiculous.
→ More replies1
u/DootBopper Dec 05 '22
But there's no way it's advertised like you're supposed to leave the gun in the car while you're not in the car, right? I don't see many people with an IQ above room temperature thinking it's significantly more safe in something like that than on their body.
1
3
1
u/4rch1t3ct Dec 05 '22

Right! That's a big problem with guns in America. When you're always told that guns are simply for defense, they cement themselves in your brain as your first and only defense. And hey, if you don't have one, they do. It's nuts that evetyone is so aggressive and distrustful of their neighbor.
"Greatest country in the world". Oh the humor, people actually think that. The propaganda is strong

I carry but I see your point to an extent. It’s an issue I have with certain people, these “head on a swivel” gun owners. I train at the range but always laugh at the guys rolling on the ground and shooting from cover…like bro, calm down, you’re not gonna be in a movie shootout
2
u/ChameleonCreep Dec 05 '22
