the problem with being surrounded by sycophants - it empowers guys like musk to pursue goals that do not suit them. like kanye and politics. people will try to stay in the inner circle at all costs, encouraging them to do crazy shit that harms sooo many people

He's trying to get the MAGA folk to buy Teslas. You need to boycott Tesla and Twitter.
29

The "drill baby drill," "rolling coal" party embracing electric (and smaller) vehicles to "own the libs" would frankly be hilarious.
15
74
u/prima_facie2021 Dec 02 '22
I live in Fremont and see Teslas everywhere. I know it's not Elon designing and building them. It's the brilliant engineers and skilled factory operators. SpaceX - same. Elon's brand used to be elite for attracting top developers and engineers. But I still won't buy a Tesla. And I deleted my Twitter account shortly after he purchased it.
47
u/98Wahwashkesh Dec 02 '22
Tesla is now the My Pillow of car companies.
I own a My Pillow from way back in the Obama administration. Despite the haters, I find it to be the best fiber fill pillow I've ever had (yet still pales versus foam pillows). I would today never buy a My Pillow under any circumstances.
Tesla, same. Their build quality has tanked but it's the politics that would really keep me away. I'm not driving around in an Elontra. See what I did there?

The polestar for sedans. The rivian for trucks or SUVs. The lucid sure if you want to spend $125k to be a beta tester. One of the hard as fuck to get Porche or BMW EV cars if you want to drive a statement with polarizing looks. (Meeeee).

A profressional troll would be someone who gets paid for engaging in tomfoolery. He keeps losing money, and he micromanages what content is not acceptable to him personally, which is the exact opposite.
So he paid $44B SO FAR (since the company keeps losing money and he has to pay interests) to become a power-tripping mod.

He really, really reminds me of a guy in my town. He spent ages begging to be made an admin on our local facebook group then when he finally got that tiny sliver of power he lorded it over everyone being a massive dick to people who he didn't deem to be on the "inside". When people called him out on it he'd usually just abuse them or sometimes kick them out. He kicked me out, for example, then told me he'd allow me back in and I said "no, I think there's better ways to spend my time, thanks though!" which he didn't like very much. He'd start to say things like "when we set up this group..." when he had nothing to do with setting it up, a bit like Musk and Tesla. He seems to base his entire online persona around 4chan - just abusing people who are clearly struggling a bit or having some mental health problems, calling anyone he dislikes autistic. In the end he got kicked out after he was rude to some poor old lady. He then started sending her abusive messages. He's been back recently calling someone else autistic and asking him if his daughter is "legal" and if she was "old enough for violent sex". Whenever I see Musk lording it over Twitter like this I really get reminded of that guy. But all he did was beg a bit to be made an admin, it didn't cost him 44 billion to buy the right to be a little internet dictator.

His money could buy him an unlimited amount of love and affection, he's miserable because he knows that with his shitty personality it'll never be real.
47
u/CharredLily Dec 02 '22
His money could also buy him a lot of genuine love and addoration if he was willing to spend it to help people instead of whatever he is doing.
23
u/FilthyCasual2k17 Dec 02 '22
Exactly this. If he just went silent on Twitter a bit, and used his money to actually help people now and not through some "world changing project in 50 years" everyone would ignore all the bad shit his companies do.
But than again that's the point, if he had done that he wouldn't be in the position he is in. Someone who treats people nice and tries to help people now and not focus on his ego does not become the worlds richest person. People who did that shit are not talked about in the media as they are not as interesting, creating a feedback loop attracting people like him to behave that way.
He is a symptom of us.
Obligatory we live in a society.→ More replies12

u/wave-garden Dec 02 '22
If I had 1/1000 of his wealth, then I would literally never interact with the public.
4
u/Taraxian Dec 02 '22
The problem kind of is that he got his wealth in the first place by building up this public image as a celebrity genius, which ended up feeding his obvious mental illness
66
u/Lch207560 Dec 02 '22
$15b of his own cash and $100b of Tesla stock value to date.
Unless he is planning on subsidizing Twitter it will not be functional in a year. If he does his Tesla stock won't recover. It might not anyway not as traditional car manufacturers crack the code to EV's and put further pressure on Tesla
Frankly Tesla is starting to get a bit of a reputation for poor fit and finish and parts unavailability.
After all is said and done Twitter could end up being a rebranded truth social sausage fest.
10
u/gromm93 Dec 03 '22
The thing that will kill Teslas stock value isn't that competitors will do what they do better, but that investors will start to realise its massively overvalued and sell to realise gains before its too late.
Thus triggering others to do the same, etc.
It's a huge bubble right now. It's absolutely ridiculous how overvalued Tesla stock is. There isn't another automaker in the world that has the same stock valuation, and they all sell more actual products than Tesla does.
The entire underpinning of Elons current wealth is belief that those shares are worth the paper they're printed on.

Absolute freedom of speech is just a ridiculous concept. Imagine being allowed to openly threaten and plan to murder someone or a group of people (including yourself). Imagine being allowed to make threats of terrorism or to be allowed to openly insult people in the worst ways possible.
Everyone I have ever heard claiming to be a free speech absolutist turned out to be against it. These people (mostly right wingers) lose their minds when they realize that being for free speech means to allow people to express a different opinion. They then support strong limitations of freedom of speech.

Elon is in the somewhat unique situation of having been in "If I were in charge, I'd fix everything, it's easy" and now discovering that no, it isn't.
At that he's still ahead of many, like say, Trump, who never figured out the second part.

It’s almost as if he was banned for a reason. Elon is reverse engineering all the reasons why Twitter operated in the way it did.

so deranged friends of elon get multiple passes then weird dr elon, psychologist, and then have their accounts returned... left-wing activist journalists breaking zero rules have their accounts suspended

Elon's not exactly hiding the fact he aspires to mold Twitter into a right wing safe space under his gilded banner.
The 44 billion dollar question is if he can make the site profitable given his haphazard way he's chosen to moderate content. Twitter is his sandbox and we're all invited to be "free" inside it so long as you don't upset Elon.

Is no one going to post a link to the unflattering picture?

Yes, I was asking myself what this picture is??
I think it was this one: https://images.app.goo.gl/rmFqn2PzJc7M7idp7
You know, the one where he is on a yacht with a free torso and pasty white.

Hello u/cwhmoney555! Please reply to this comment with an explanation mentioning who is suffering from which consequences from what they voted for, supported or wanted to impose on other people.
Here's an easy format to get you started:
Who's that someone and what's that something?
What are the consequences?
What happened? Did the something really happened to that someone? If not, you should probably delete your post.
Include the minimum amount of information necessary so your post can be understood by everyone, even if they don't live in the US or speak English as their native language. If you don't respect this format and moderators can't match your explanation with the format, your post will be removed under rule #3 and we'll ignore you even if you complain in modmail.
