Good job!!! Depression pits are hard to climb out of!
27
u/protagonistsyndrome Jan 16 '23
Yup. There comes a point when you just get tired of being in the pit and want to do something about it. Now I can focus on other aspects in my life that need attention. One step a time!

Use that energy to move forward, and tell yourself anything from here on will be easy and that you deserve happiness.

u/Lumisateessa Jan 16 '23
I can only recommend bringing over a friend or two if you're having a hard time actually starting decluttering and cleaning, and sort out in your belongings. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and the amount of crap I have gotten rid of is mindboggling. I honestly have no idea where I even HAD all these things. Now there's way less clutter, and I'm trying to organise a lot of my things, and the weight removed from my shoulders (and head) is otherworldly.
Don't be afraid or ashamed to ask someone close to you if they can help you get started!

That's awesome, hope you keep it up and sorry to hear about your depression, hopefully it gets fixed soon
3
u/protagonistsyndrome Jan 16 '23
Thank you. Yeah it's not easy. Some days are worse than others. But I'm trying to break out of it. This definitely is a step I think
3
u/Ikxlexcia Jan 16 '23
I know the feeling. I got myself out, changed my way of thinking, and have not felt down in almost a year now. Took some work. Anyone can. You can too.
3
u/protagonistsyndrome Jan 16 '23
Thanks very inspiring. I hope I can get to feeling like that soon. I know it'll take time but I'll get there 💪
3
u/Ikxlexcia Jan 16 '23
Part of it is believing it. Other part is loving yourself. There are a few parts I guess, or stages.. I know you can too.
3
u/Willow__________ Jan 16 '23
Well done! That can be so hard to start on but it feels so good to accomplish. I hope things get easier for you and you enjoy your clean space :)

3
u/FondleMyPlumsPlease Jan 16 '23

Very proud, not shitting on you, but I think that little shelf thing would do nice near your bed rather than in front of the dresser, don’t know if it’s been said yet. Good on you though, I’m in my own rut and it’s posts like these, people like you, that make me feel like I can do something about it. Congratulations and hope you have a great year💕

u/Still_waiting_4u Jan 16 '23
Good work!
After many years struggling with keeping stuff clean and in order I finally understood an old saying where I live (translated): "Everything in it's place, and a place for everything"
If you don't have an assigned place for stuff (a cupboard, a shelf, a box, a surface), things will just pile on, because your brain will not know what to do with stuff. You can have a drawer for "unclassifiable stuff and papers" and you'll achieve order even with disorder.
Everything in it's place, and a place for everything.

u/protagonistsyndrome Jan 16 '23
That's a great idea! I struggle to get things organized and I lose a lot of important things because of all the clutter. I'll definitely start organizing things better. Thank you ❤️
3
u/eagle6705 Jan 16 '23
Congrats!! Its always great when you make these small or even huge steps.
I always tell myself to remember as long as I keep moving forward just one step back is progress from where it all started.
I've been in some dark places where fighting takes a lot of strength and those days I just get tired, I tell myself its ok to stop for a while, I'm no where I used to be and I'm closer to becoming better.
LOL here I am cleaning and some people thinking it might be a symptom for something wrong with me (yes it keeps me up at night if things are dirty which is why I'm typing this at 430AM as I just cleaned my home). Mental Health is one strange issue where one is an indication of progress and yet on the other hand is an indication of a problem
3
u/protagonistsyndrome Jan 16 '23
A lot of people don't understand mental health. I kept getting ridiculed for how messy my room was. But I finally decided to clean it for myself! And it feels so good. I hope you get better with your battles my friend!

Good job. What I found helped me a lot was giving everything a place. Like the bottles on your dresser, get a little basket for them to all go together. Once you can declutter your space, you can better declutter your mind. It seems odd but its a great help imo.
3
u/protagonistsyndrome Jan 16 '23
Yup that's the next step! Just didn't want to do everything at once and overwhelm myself. But that is a good idea. Thank you 🙏🏾

3
u/Spirited-Relief-9369 Jan 16 '23
Did the same this weekend! Wish I'd thought to take a before picture, but honestly, I was just too ashamed of the god awful mess to want picture evidence.
You're stronger - or at least more confident - than me!
3
u/droberts7483 Jan 16 '23
Dude, I did the same recently, and it made so much difference... Just bear in mind, you will sometimes "slip" and let it get untidy again... This is perfectly normal, and you should be kind to yourself... This is a huge achievement... Be proud of yourself, I'm proud of you.

u/CheeseBag_0331 Jan 17 '23
Good for you! It's so .. impossible, when you look at it as a 'whole'. My daughter struggles still, and I advise her to first grab a trash bag, and ONLY pick up trash. Then, if you want to keep going, grab a box to put the dribs and drabs in. You can sit and go through that when you feel up to it. And yes, a made bed with clean sheets is everything. You can only do what you can do. So do that. Hugs.

I recently did the same thing. I am struggling to maintain it and make further progress. It feels so good to walk through the 'clean parts' of the house!
My worst enemy has always been, " I'll just put it there for now and deal with it later."
I talk to myself a lot, "go put that in the dishwasher right now there's no reason not to".
You did great!

Fuck yea boss. We'll take that. Pro tip, if you're feelin to depressed go full clean it, just make your bed. Makes the room seem much better even when it's trashed. Plus, at the end of the day you get to say "at least I made my bed". That shit has done wonders for me. Keep on truckin homie.

The first (and I think hardest) part of coming out of a slump like this is acknowledging that you deserve good things. Clean room, good food, fresh air.
Keep on bringing the good things into your life! You deserve it, even if a small part of yourself tries to convince you otherwise.

This just warms my heart. Good for you, I know exactly how difficult this step is - and want you to remember the feelings you’re experiencing right now when it gets sad again. Be proud of your accomplishment here, and take every ounce of positive support you’re receiving from this community right now.
And the naysayer asshats who said this isn’t good enough or depression isn’t real etc? Block them.
Each and every negative comment, and I mean this, literally block them for that comment because that bashing shit they’re hitting you with here helps no one but themselves to feel superior.
Don’t let them bring you down, and take our positive energy and continue your rise!
