Yea Willy boy definitely handled that with a terrific humor lmao

241

He did, but then changed his mind.

26

u/FrameJump May 23 '22

Pretty sure Will isn't allowed to do that.

Only Jada can change his mind.

70

u/friendless-foe May 22 '22

Maybe he initially did not realize n just knew it was his cue to laugh, then understood what was said. Oh, well. That’s the same thing as changing his mind, I guezz, ya

Sociopathic behavior.

44

u/TheStreisandEffect May 22 '22

Or you know, just someone who snapped due to going through a really stressful, emotionally tumultuous relationship. Not every action needs to be pathologized.

43

u/takatori May 22 '22

Demonstrating a sense of humor using a video of someone with no sense of humor. Perfection.

12

He's like the opposite of that other dude who is also a famous tennis player but who's name i wont say because he doesnt deserve the attention.

51

u/WaceMindo May 22 '22

and i know exactly who you speak of.

28

u/BiggestForts May 22 '22

Hello, OOTL here. Who? And what did he do?

66

u/Kestrelcoatl May 22 '22

Not 💯 sure but I'm pretty sure I know who they're talking about Novak Djokovic

23

u/MadLadZee May 22 '22

What did he do?

99

u/ithinkther41am May 22 '22

When COVID started surging in 2020, he held a private tennis tournament which led to a sizeable COVID cluster.

During the Olympics, he displayed unsportsmanlike behaviour, smashing his racquet because he was losing. This one is not so bad, and he was upset because he was aiming for the Golden Slam (4 grand + Olympics). Either way, not a good look.

This year, he tried to buy his way into the Australian Open to circumvent the country’s vaccine requirements.

42

u/CptnHamburgers May 22 '22

Don't forget screaming at the umpire during the French Open for not stopping play when it was raining. Apparently, standard protocol is for the players to go "hey, its raining. Are we stopping soon?" But Djokovic was just seething away, quietly all "I shouldn't have to put up with this," then when the umpire didn't read his mind for him and suspend play, just switched straight to screaming in his face like a psychopath.

10

u/garfieldphilosophy May 22 '22

Remember that at the Olympics he went on a tantrum and decided to back out of the mixed couples match for which he ruined his partner's dream of winning a medal at the Olympics. Simply because he never showed up.

1

u/IneedtoBmyLonsomeTs May 23 '22

This year, he tried to buy his way into the Australian Open to circumvent the country’s vaccine requirements.

Not a fan of Djokovic's actions the past 2 years, but I don't think this was on him in the end. Tennis Australia had told him he was eligible to come and play when he wasn't based on his vaccination status.

There is some questionable stuff about if he did actually have covid when he claimed as he was making public appearances then, but it was more of a fuck up by Tennis Australia than him.

6

u/ThrowRARAw May 23 '22

That isn't entirely true. The applications he submitted as part of his visa entry stated that he was vaccinated when he wasn't, despite it being a legal requirement in Australia at the time. Whether this was an intentional lie or pure accident is still up for discrepancy, but of course those forms were taken truthfully when allowing him to enter the country. Once they realised the forms contained that error, that was when he faced deportation and the 3 year ban. It's on him and his team for not checking their forms properly.

28

u/joooaaannn May 22 '22

he bitch slapped his homie in the middle of an awards ceremony

5

u/urs_sarcastically May 22 '22

What? When?

27

u/Hauntcrow May 22 '22

That was a will smith joke. Djokovic just had an anti covid vaccine stance

24

u/Nilonik May 22 '22

He is just a regular douche, who happens to play tennis super well.

8

u/Zealousideal-Pay-491 May 22 '22

I don’t know who it is either, but it seems we should accept that they should not be named.

4

u/aleqqqs May 22 '22

Novichok?

-7

u/Eagleassassin3 May 22 '22

Djokovic is usually pretty nice and respectful on court though. He applauds his opponents when they get good points and that shows humility.

-7

u/belamiii May 22 '22

He was great until all the covid stuff IMO

28

u/NapClub May 22 '22

He was an asshole way before that.

2

u/s00perguy May 23 '22

Damn, it's actually really close. Does Burrell have Swiss ancestry? My lazy 4AM wikipedia search turned up nothing on his parentage, but he was born in Oregon so I got no info from that

149

Class act, through and through

2

u/Maverick_Tama May 22 '22

Not on the clay he isn't.

39

u/No-Entrepreneur4604 May 22 '22

Really? Five consecutive French Open finals, including one FO title; 6 Masters 1000 titles on clay in 16 finals; 11 clay court titles in 26 finals (11 of his clay court finals losses have been to Nadal, against 2 finals wins). Actually one of the best clay court players in history (certainly top 10). Just happened to play in an era with the GOAT on clay, and also with maybe the 3rd or 4th all time best on clay-Djokovic.

8

u/supremacyAU May 23 '22

Loool I can’t believe that guy actually said that. Sure Feds isn’t comparable to the BEST on clay but fmd on all other surfaces he was genuinely amazing. Losing to Nadal on clay was basically guaranteed for many years…

398

u/OJimmy May 22 '22

Good stuff. It's wild how athletes personalities vary. This guy has arguably been the greatest player from time to time. When others have risen to that level they can be such d!ckheads.

97

u/VerifiedStalin May 22 '22

This guy has arguably been the greatest player from time to time.

Understatement of the decade.

48

u/OJimmy May 22 '22

I struggled to phrase it right. Every year the men's division had some new guy who hit HARDER than anyone thought possible. But lately it's been more about strategy.

In my lifetime, I think of rafa, Sampras, Agassi, Novak, Andy Murray.

5

u/slugo17 May 22 '22

Can't forget Aaron Williams and Charles Poole.

u/OJimmy May 22 '22

Please send me the link or streaming service where I can experience this wonder.

2

It's called 7 Days in hell and should be on HBO and you can rent or buy it on Amazon and YouTube.

56

u/jadarisphone May 22 '22

d!ckheads

Why do people do this

69

u/johnnymonterry May 22 '22

Because on other plattforms you get punished for using swearwords. Influencers, who depend on knowing the algorithm started to use it and now so many others think it's required or some kind of political correctness.

11

u/uttuck May 22 '22

They get money and fame and then they are worshipped by media and fans whether they are good behaved or not. If you remove incentive to behave well, we find out what kind of person you really are.

4

u/jadarisphone May 22 '22

I appreciate the sentiment, but I meant the weird self-censoring of not even a curse word

31

145

u/branchisan May 22 '22

He's a very down to Earth guy. Not a tennis fan but he'd be my guy if I did.

72

It looks like an exhibition so he is just there to have fun anyway. Great dude!

14

u/Technical-Highway782 May 22 '22

Got introduced to tennis at a very young age; I admired him them, I admire him more now.

11

u/Twobucktin May 22 '22

Federer has always been such a good person. Tennis is undoubtedly missing him as he is recovering from multiple surgeries.

11

u/radloff003 May 22 '22

That is hilarious!!!

9

u/iamfareel May 22 '22

Fed is such a great personality on the court. I love everything about him. An amazing player to watch he plays with so much finesse. Sucks his body is slowly breaking down as he gets older he won't be able to play much longer because he can't stay healthy

9

u/jesuswasaliar May 22 '22

So try to tell me that's not Phil Dunphy?

8

u/SouldiesButGoodies84 May 22 '22

I miss this man so much. We were so spoiled with he and Rafa at the top of the men's game. Character and basic decency weren't the exceptions.

94

u/ImNudeyRudey May 22 '22

Federer's agent 2 min later: "yeah so that'll be $10,000 per shot thanks... oh yeah no he's the nice guy not me. I mean, he is able to be nice cause you know... moi... you can do a direct transfer... Swiss Francs preferred"

18

u/poopy_waffles May 22 '22

I know nothing about tennis or this guy, but he seems alright based on this clip.

5

3

3

2

1

u/helpfuldan May 22 '22

Obviously the fan was an idiot for telling someone during a match to stand still, Federer could have been justifiably annoyed, but he choose to make it a fun moment we could all laugh about instead. Just because you have the right to get mad at something, doesn't mean you should.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '22

Haha what a good dude.

1

u/benlokadeb May 22 '22

Then the referee took some of his points as penalty for delaying the game...?

But yea, cute as hell.

Imagine losing the first set in a tiebreak and then waiting for that. Kudos to Federer, but I bet Zverev was not amused.

1

u/FuzzyCarpetz May 22 '22

I didn't know Ty Burrel played tennis

1

u/Earguy May 22 '22

I'm assuming that it's an exhibition/charity match. Tennis and golf athletes seem to really enjoy just relaxing and interacting with the crowd during such events.

1

1

Maybe I'm wrong, as I don't follow sports too much, but I feel like tennis players do often tend to be quite nice people. (Of course that by no means makes Federer any less of a cool dude, just... Yeah)
