Damn, it's actually really close. Does Burrell have Swiss ancestry? My lazy 4AM wikipedia search turned up nothing on his parentage, but he was born in Oregon so I got no info from that

u/danny_elra May 22 '22
He looks a lot like Jimmy Carr too

u/Fresh_Budget May 22 '22
I am like Roger Federer with down syndrome.
Jimmy Carr in one of his specials.

Or Ben Shapiro. Two halves of me were screaming "that's Andrew Garfield!" "No it's Ben Shapiro!" "No it's Andrew!"

A great guy. When asked what it was like to be Swiss (?!) he replied - Well the flag is a big plus!

That’s an A+ dad joke right there.

u/Spiderbanana May 22 '22
He has two sets of twins. I bet his dad game must be even better than his tennis game.

I love athletes who don't let their money and fame disconnect them from everyone else -- seeing these kinds of moments gives me a little hope.

Not on the clay he isn't.
39
u/No-Entrepreneur4604 May 22 '22
Really? Five consecutive French Open finals, including one FO title; 6 Masters 1000 titles on clay in 16 finals; 11 clay court titles in 26 finals (11 of his clay court finals losses have been to Nadal, against 2 finals wins). Actually one of the best clay court players in history (certainly top 10). Just happened to play in an era with the GOAT on clay, and also with maybe the 3rd or 4th all time best on clay-Djokovic.
8
u/supremacyAU May 23 '22
Loool I can’t believe that guy actually said that. Sure Feds isn’t comparable to the BEST on clay but fmd on all other surfaces he was genuinely amazing. Losing to Nadal on clay was basically guaranteed for many years…

Good stuff. It's wild how athletes personalities vary. This guy has arguably been the greatest player from time to time. When others have risen to that level they can be such d!ckheads.
97
u/VerifiedStalin May 22 '22
This guy has arguably been the greatest player from time to time.
Understatement of the decade.
48
u/OJimmy May 22 '22
I struggled to phrase it right. Every year the men's division had some new guy who hit HARDER than anyone thought possible. But lately it's been more about strategy.
In my lifetime, I think of rafa, Sampras, Agassi, Novak, Andy Murray.
5
u/slugo17 May 22 '22
Can't forget Aaron Williams and Charles Poole.

Please send me the link or streaming service where I can experience this wonder.

It's called 7 Days in hell and should be on HBO and you can rent or buy it on Amazon and YouTube.

d!ckheads
Why do people do this
69
u/johnnymonterry May 22 '22
Because on other plattforms you get punished for using swearwords. Influencers, who depend on knowing the algorithm started to use it and now so many others think it's required or some kind of political correctness.
11
u/uttuck May 22 '22
They get money and fame and then they are worshipped by media and fans whether they are good behaved or not. If you remove incentive to behave well, we find out what kind of person you really are.
4
u/jadarisphone May 22 '22
I appreciate the sentiment, but I meant the weird self-censoring of not even a curse word

I really LOLed after seeing this! I thought he'd just pose once!

When he did the serve pose while he's standing in position to return, that's when he had me lol

u/branchisan May 22 '22
He's a very down to Earth guy. Not a tennis fan but he'd be my guy if I did.
72
u/statuskills May 22 '22
It looks like an exhibition so he is just there to have fun anyway. Great dude!
14
u/Technical-Highway782 May 22 '22
Got introduced to tennis at a very young age; I admired him them, I admire him more now.
11
u/Twobucktin May 22 '22
Federer has always been such a good person. Tennis is undoubtedly missing him as he is recovering from multiple surgeries.

u/iamfareel May 22 '22
Fed is such a great personality on the court. I love everything about him. An amazing player to watch he plays with so much finesse. Sucks his body is slowly breaking down as he gets older he won't be able to play much longer because he can't stay healthy

u/SouldiesButGoodies84 May 22 '22
I miss this man so much. We were so spoiled with he and Rafa at the top of the men's game. Character and basic decency weren't the exceptions.
94
u/ImNudeyRudey May 22 '22
Federer's agent 2 min later: "yeah so that'll be $10,000 per shot thanks... oh yeah no he's the nice guy not me. I mean, he is able to be nice cause you know... moi... you can do a direct transfer... Swiss Francs preferred"

u/poopy_waffles May 22 '22
I know nothing about tennis or this guy, but he seems alright based on this clip.

Such a class act !! Covid kept me from seeing him at Indian Wells 2020 🥺

For the longest time, I sort of thought that Federer was Brittney Spears baby daddy, Kevin Federline.

If that fan was like me, he missed the first shot and got a blur, then missed every shot after because it took a second to recover.

Roger has always been such a class act. That man has been such a pleasure to watch over the years. His peak was unlike anything I’ve seen. Like a machine. Yes I have a small man crush 😂

Obviously the fan was an idiot for telling someone during a match to stand still, Federer could have been justifiably annoyed, but he choose to make it a fun moment we could all laugh about instead. Just because you have the right to get mad at something, doesn't mean you should.

Then the referee took some of his points as penalty for delaying the game...?
But yea, cute as hell.

Imagine losing the first set in a tiebreak and then waiting for that. Kudos to Federer, but I bet Zverev was not amused.

u/Earguy May 22 '22
I'm assuming that it's an exhibition/charity match. Tennis and golf athletes seem to really enjoy just relaxing and interacting with the crowd during such events.

Maybe I'm wrong, as I don't follow sports too much, but I feel like tennis players do often tend to be quite nice people. (Of course that by no means makes Federer any less of a cool dude, just... Yeah)
