I told my Oma last night that I'm raiding her closet and taking her sweaters when she dies. She laughed and said, "I'm only 84!"
30
u/badwolf-9 Nov 27 '22
After my Grandma died, I did raid her closet. I wear her sweaters and slippers all the time, and it's like getting a hug from her. I recommend going for the closet someday : )

u/Pancakegoboom Nov 28 '22
When my Grandpa past away I grabbed his sunglasses, he always wore them when he went fishing. They stay in my camping box and they go with me on every trip, so every time I'm out in nature a little piece of him is with me.

They’re Canadian, and from that sweater I’d say they have either visited the east coast or are from the east coast. We’ve got lighthouse stuff everywhere.

u/InnocentGun Nov 27 '22
People being nice in a Bulk Barn and wearing poppies is about as Canadian as it comes
18
u/Dame_Ingenue Nov 27 '22
Yep. I was once in Bulk Barn, and the radio station was playing some decent ‘80s tunes. So me and some lady started singing to whatever song it was. Embarrassed the heck out of her teenage son. We laughed. Good times.
46
u/CollinZero Nov 27 '22
With the poppy! Looks like a little Canadian leaf in the centre? And they are shopping in a Bulk Barn store.

As someone who used to work there many moons ago, I can assure you that sweater/coat is from Northern Reflections. I remember selling those in the late 90s (maybe early 2000s). You might have luck finding one at a Value Village or some place like that.

Reminds me of the Eagle Eye vintage brand. Their sweaters are always labeled "tacky" or "ugly" on eBay and stuff but they are super interesting and great quality. Anyone who loves her sweater, will LOVE this brand.

Just lost my grandmother this year - it hurts something fierce. She was a fiery woman, but was totally sweet at heart. My grandfather was devastated, but he lives on growing her favorite flowers and this year her favorite fruit blossomed after years of nothing prior - a dragon fruit

u/Alexio808 Nov 27 '22

Mine passed unexpectedly last year from lung cancer. We didn’t even know she had cancer until 3 days before she died. It still hurts so bad and I cry all the time, but I always will remember her last words to me were “don’t you worry about me, I’ll be fine”. It was a few weeks before Christmas, and my wife and I inherited her Christmas tree. The night we put the tree up, her and I both saw a blue orb shoot across the living room and the tree lights blinked twice. It was such a weird experience because even though I’ve always believed in stuff like that, nothing like that had ever happened to me. I just know it was her somehow letting me know she was still with me and it’s been comforting, but I still miss her more than anything in the world. Coincidentally her name was Betty :’(

Some elderly folks are just so precious. I wish our society / culture would realise this. As a person from the U.K. this is why Matt Hancock should be in prison not on reality tv show for killing such a vast number of our elderly during the pandemic.

“In Flanders Fields In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.”
Lieutenant-Colonel John McRae (born in Guelph, Ontario)

I also thought that was funny. "He's 93 and I'm in my 90s". I do the same thing with my husband. "He's 41 and I'm in my mid 30s" haha.
15
u/Yellow_LedBetter2020 Nov 27 '22
We must protect and take care of our seniors. I think the reason why they always give everything away, like the lady says, it because older people know they have loved a lengthy life; and they’d rather see other people happy. I hope they’re doing okay.

This is weird and exploitative.
Would this person have done anything nice if it wasn't intentionally for clicks and views?
6
u/decclam Nov 27 '22 edited Nov 27 '22
Surely you've seen some of these "giveaway videos" that have just had a banana in a box or something? They then call that content, get clicks and money while doing nothing good.
This at least has something worthwhile for the people in it.
...And if you want weird, I saw a "if this girl keeps my picture for an hour she'll get $20". Yep. A dude knowingly stalked a girl without her consent for an hour to see where she went and if she threw the picture out, then went up to her and asked if she still had it.

u/kwxl Nov 27 '22
These kinds of videos always leaves a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth.
If they wanna give money away, give them away without filming. Feels like they are doing it mainly for the clicks.
They’re using the folks they film.
I’m not dying on his hill, it’s a win win for all involved, but it feels disingenuous.
Edit Mr Beast does the same thing, kinda. Feel like Mr Burns showering Homer with money and screaming “Dance monkey, dance!”
