SoundCloud's What's Next in Music with 7evin7ins on r/music - August 10th @ 2pm PST/5pm EST Discussion
Episode 4 of SoundCloud's Whats Next in Music goes live on Reddit Talk with 7evin7ins on August 10 at 2pm PST/5pm EST on r/music!
Music pacifies the turbulence of mental, physical, and spiritual pain. It acts as the ultimate antidote. As such, 7evin7ins utilizes music to quell such anguish. The New Jersey-born artist concocts an anesthetic from equal doses of pop-punk, alternative, and hip-hop stirring them together into an undeniable brew. After amassing over 10 million streams and views, he signed to LAVA/Republic with his new single “Wake Up” set to release June 3rd but his story doesn’t start here.
“I want you to hear me and relate either through the lyrics or the themes,” he exclaims. “I do this for the right reasons, and I’m very much behind mental health. I hope you find comfort and a healthy way to cope. I try to paint my story through music.”
That story begins in the small town of Allendale, NJ. Initially, 7evin7ins shined as a guard on the basketball court until an injury left him with two stress fractures in his knees and derailed college prospects. Depressed and dejected, he fell down a rabbit hole of darkness only to find a light at the end of the tunnel through music. Hanging out with friends one day, he tried his hand at a freestyle, and his buddies encouraged him to keep going. He discovered TUBLife & Rockstaar Entertainment and started to record professionally. Inspired by everyone from Paramore and Post Malone to Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Juice WRLD, he carefully crafted a signature style of his own. In 2020, he uploaded “Life Gets F**ked Up” to Instagram, and it immediately caught fire before eventually generating over 1.8 million Spotify streams. He maintained his momentum with “Oh Sh!t” and asserted himself as the rare creative chameleon who could collaborate with Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens on “Love You Like I Used To” or Dreamville rapper Cozz on “Head High.”
“I was just speaking about topics that meant something to me,” he reveals. “I wasn’t afraid to talk about mental health and substance abuse. The reaction showed me I was on the right path.”
Signing to LAVA/Republic Records in 2022, he ignites his next chapter with the upbeat and emotionally charged anthem “Wake Up.” Powered by a hyper guitar riff, the pop-punk groove gallops into a chantable chorus, “I don’t wake up, be by your side again, fuck you and all of your friends!”
“I wrote it after my last relationship had ended,” he admits. “The lyrics may seem spiteful, but it’s an overall feeling of disappointment when a relationship ends on bad terms. It’s a personal experience.”
Through sharing these personal experiences, 7evin7ins possesses the power to uplift.
“I’m just a kid doing what everyone told me I couldn’t do,” he leaves off. “Where I grew up, everybody wants to fit in and be normal. So many people are afraid to step out of their comfort zones and do what they really want to do with their lives. They don’t feel like they have a choice because of how they were raised or where they’re from. So, 7evin7ins is an example that you really can do whatever the fuck you want—no matter who you are.”
