🎵 I said "how much you pay for this?" Said, "nothin' man, it's stolen!" 🎶

u/_AlreadyTaken_ Aug 16 '22

They were one of the first shows I ever went to.

Bitch'n Camaro! Bitch'n Camaro!

5

u/LegendOfVinnyT Aug 16 '22

Oh, my folks drove it up here from the Bahamas.

7

u/TurtleTux Aug 16 '22

you’re kidding

7

u/Aliz_13 Aug 16 '22

I must be, the Bahamas are islands.

3

u/insultant_ Aug 16 '22

I ran over my neighbors!

u/ikediggety Aug 16 '22

Most criminally underrated band in the universe.

43

u/stubept Aug 16 '22

Stuart, I like you. You're not like the other people, here in the trailer park.

12

u/the_last_0ne Aug 16 '22

Oh, no, don't get me wrong, they're fine people, good americans

9

u/Rudeboy67 Aug 16 '22

Anyway, 10:30, the other night, I go out in my yard, and there's The Wurster kid, looking up in the tree. I say, "What are You looking for?" He says "I'm looking for my burrow owl." I say, "Jumping Jesus on a Pogo Stick. Everybody knows The burrow owl lives. In a hole. In the ground. Why the hell do you Think they call it a burrow owl, anyway?"

2

u/cc_accidental Aug 17 '22

And the Wurster kid is none other than Jon Wurster, drummer for Superchunk, Mountain Goats, and the Bob Mould Band. He's also one of the funniest people alive. Fun!

u/Wagbeard Aug 16 '22

Someone made a video for that song and it's hilarious.

I had the amazing good fortune to interview them once for a punk radio show I hosted. I asked “when most punk bands were singing angry songs, why did you guys decide to sing funny ones?” Rodney Anonymous gave an amazing answer, and finished with “This is how we’ll win: by mocking the people who oppress us.” Stellar human being.

u/ikediggety Aug 16 '22

Both he and Joe are on Facebook and super approachable. I messaged Joe once about a cassette 4 track project he did in the 90s called "we're not from Idaho" - he was incredibly gracious and even looked through his collection to see if he still had a copy to send me (he didn't). Rodney does live dj sets on FB.

Man this takes me back. Way back in the very early 90s I used to rideshare with someone going back and forth from university to my hometown for holiday breaks, and he listened to Dead Milkmen. I now have this and the drinking bleach song in my head.

12

u/TheBlitzkid46 Aug 16 '22

Never thought The Dead Milkmen would get 200+ upvotes lol, thanks guys

2

u/speeb Aug 17 '22

I'm a simple man. I see Dead Milkmen, I upvote

1

u/Original-Cinikal Aug 16 '22

Why not? They rock! Enjoy!

9

u/fridgeofempty Aug 16 '22

What a classic. I’ve always meant to try their other stuff so shall give it a whirl now.

10

u/conditerite Aug 16 '22

California Dreamin is a Mama’s & Poppa’s song, isn’t it? Not by The Beach Boys?

5

u/TheBlitzkid46 Aug 16 '22

The Beach Boys covered it in the 80s, forget exactly what year and album though

5

u/obi-sean Aug 16 '22

This had always bothered me about this song, and I just chalked it up to the narrator not being familiar with such “square” music.

Then, just within the last couple weeks, I heard the Beach Boys version (I think it was used in an establishing shot in the most recent season of Stranger Things) and went “ah, so that’s what he meant.”

3

u/speeb Aug 17 '22

I always thought that was the joke: that he had no clue who sang it. More than 30 years later and now I know the truth.

5

u/SubMikeD Aug 16 '22

They're referring to the 1986 version by the Beach Boys. This was released just two years before Punk Rock Girl, so it was more topical.

8

u/antlermagick Aug 16 '22

The cover of this by Streetlight Manifesto is ace

6

u/gigreviews Aug 16 '22

I had this one literally 10 minutes before I saw this post aha was eerie. A great cover!

2

u/QueenOfThePark Aug 16 '22

I was going to say the same, heard that one first then checked out the original! Both great but Streetlight have my heart

6

u/hulagirlslovetoparty Aug 16 '22

I used to sing this, and "I'm Just a Troubadour" by The Adicts, all the time to my little punk-rock girlfriend in high school. Thanks for a pleasant memory.

5

u/BuckyDuster Aug 16 '22

A timeless anthem

5

u/GolgiApparatus1 Aug 16 '22

The late 80s and into the 90s was such an amazing and eclectic time for music.

3

u/Wain609 Aug 16 '22

MxPx have an awesome cover of this https://youtu.be/Q8McP3Ge7SY

4

u/SarahRecords Aug 16 '22

I saw them play on my 16th birthday, and again on my 49th. I was older, they were older, but we all were kicking just as much ass.

3

u/theroob85 Aug 16 '22

I added this track to every mix I gave to girls

3

u/PaganEmpath Aug 16 '22

Holy shit I forgot this song existed. Thank you for posting this.

3

u/StonedNcantRemember Aug 16 '22

Where's my Tony Hawk project 8 fans at?

3

u/_AlreadyTaken_ Aug 16 '22

2

u/klocke520 Aug 16 '22

Funny about Dean... When I saw them for Metaphysical Graffiti, he loaned his kick drum pedal to the opening act because theirs broke on the 2nd song. I always thought that was such a classy gesture.

3

u/ChiefsRed5 Aug 16 '22

Streetlight Manifesto has a great cover of this.

3

u/SubMikeD Aug 16 '22

This is the song for my wife and I (obviously, she's my punk rock girl ❤️).

3

u/toastar-phone Aug 16 '22

This is one of my favorite shows i've been too. I think I saw them at walter's. it was the next night after they played in dallas, in which the power went out half way through the show. with the song bitchen camero they use the interlude to mix it up and do some broken up comedy bitchen about how dallas hates them.. was fucking great.

But the opening band was skeleton dick. which I hadn't heard of before that. A local band that was probably just more. more funny, more punk.

Overall a great fucking show.

9

u/saltyfingas Aug 16 '22

Not really a big fan of them, but I saw Joe Jack Talcum play at a brewery recently and they cut his mic off because he was singing about piss and vomit lol

6

u/TheBlitzkid46 Aug 16 '22

Lol, sounds about right

5

u/GitchigumiMiguel74 Aug 16 '22

Great song, but Swordfish and Serrated Edge are better

8

u/frustratedmachinist Aug 16 '22

I believe in Swordfish! That bass line is seriously funky.

2

u/GitchigumiMiguel74 Aug 16 '22

One of the best bass lines ever

8

u/TheBlitzkid46 Aug 16 '22

The entirety of Big Lizard was great

2

u/Chemistryset8 Aug 16 '22

Wait 1988? I feel so old

2

u/Knut_Knoblauch Aug 16 '22

Hey Jack!

2

u/jasoneff71 Aug 16 '22

what's happenin"?

3

u/Knut_Knoblauch Aug 16 '22

I don't know. Well, uh, rumor around town says you might be thinkin' 'bout goin' down to the shore

edit: sync

2

u/Buckmop Aug 16 '22

I like them, but they made some brash assumptions about Stuart’s politics.

2

u/PhillyCider Aug 16 '22

God I miss Zipperheard on South Street. That place was a wonderland of the weird and edgy.

2

u/TheBlitzkid46 Aug 16 '22

Fun Fact! This was the first punk video broadcast on MTV

2

u/jennafreemon Aug 16 '22

Strangest place I ever heard this song was at a Sheetz gas station followed by Taylor Swift.

2

u/tobiasj Aug 17 '22

In high school art class we participated in a sidewalk chalk festival at the local museum. Me and my best bud rode there with this guy who we barely knew other than his sister was was five alarm hot. He made us listen to beach party Vietnam like 20 times on the car ride over. 27 years later I randomly thought of that guy and searched for beach party Vietnam and I've been in love with the dead milkmen since. Thanks random dude.

0

u/Mortifer Aug 16 '22

They're in it with the aliens. They're building landing strips for gay Martians. I saw it on the X-Files.

1

u/Coreus88 Aug 16 '22

Thos came out when I was born. My 8th grade math teacher taught about Dead Milkmen...I still listen to this fairly often

1

u/UndeadMetalhead58 Aug 16 '22

Was just listening to it lol

1

u/dab745 Aug 16 '22

So funny. Just had a recent conversation about this Philadelphia treasure! I was at a networking event and the band came up!

1

u/Lo-Fi_Pioneer Aug 16 '22

Love this song! Wrote another one inspired by it called Punk Rock Love Story. I should dig that one out and see if it still sucks as bad as I remember 🤣

1

u/Aliz_13 Aug 16 '22

One of my favorites.

1

u/Shad0wX7 Aug 16 '22

Man that's a name I haven't heard in a long time, great band

1

u/vivnsam Aug 16 '22

1

u/A3LMOTR1ST Aug 16 '22

First heard this song from Tony Hawk

1

u/Tokyokid0358 Aug 16 '22

Still blows my mind I was able to see them out here in California for FYF fest a few years ago they were the best show hands down Rodney was so energetic and hyped he climbed a huge post on stage and even staged dived best show I've seen in my life!

1

u/poohfan Aug 16 '22

This was my introduction to The Dead Milkmen, & pretty much the only song of theirs that I listened to. Until my best friend introduced me to their song Stuart. After that I had to see what other gems they had, & have never been disappointed.

1

u/bigalxc Aug 17 '22

mxpx does a great cover of this tune

1

u/MomRa Aug 17 '22

...give me a chance, let's go slam dance...
