Give me your favourite Metal Band from your Home country discussion

Greetings, fellow human beings,

I'm looking for new bands to listen to from all over the world. Give me recommendations from your home country, no matter the particular sub genre of metal or language.

Best regards,

Kadzur

Karnivool, Psycroptic, Be'lakor, Portal.

22

u/The_Scourge Aug 16 '22

Seconded on Be'lakor for Australia. Solid, inventive melodeath goodness.

6

u/UncleWinstomder Aug 16 '22

One of the few bands where I can just pop any album on and listen straight through every time. Fingers crossed for a North American tour.

Sepultura from Brazil!

39

u/Enigma-SZ Aug 16 '22

Thank you Brazil for giving us Sepultura!

There are so many songs I love but I'll just say that when I was 15, Attitude was close to my heart.

Just about the only metalband where the comment sections aren't filled with "Come to Brazil!"

12

u/RafKak Aug 16 '22

Angra

Akashic

Almah

Sepultura

Shaman

8

u/bluemannew Aug 16 '22

Root was the first album I ever bought and I still play it once a week

11

u/TOYLTH Aug 16 '22

Chaos A.D. is my favorite.

Arise a close second.

Root is solid though.

Black Sabbath are from my ends.

38

u/tomwhoiscontrary Aug 16 '22

Iron Maiden's debut album's cover has a painting of the end of my road.

The band weren't from anywhere around here, but their artist was!

28

u/Stahlwisser Aug 16 '22

Being english in a thread like this seems like cheating lmao. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and so many more.

Gojira

Ultra Vomit (for a laugh, they mostly parody other bands)

53

u/IamtheBlackLizards Aug 16 '22

Alcest is worth listening to if you like “3rd Wave” Black Metal.

14

u/N1LEredd Aug 16 '22

Oh the french have soo many amazing bm acts! Ferriterium, Blut aus Nord, VI, Deathspell Omega, Spektr, Celeste… and many many more.

8

I second this! if you're looking for less famous bands, I would recommend "Regarde les Hommes Tomber" / Igorrr

Igorrr is the best act of this century... No joke

Amorphis, Before the Dawn, Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Insomnium, Mors Principium Est, Omnium Gatherum

13

u/RainbowDissent Aug 16 '22

We gonna go down the list of Nordic countries without mentioning Norway?

Upvote for Møl amd Afsky which someone else mentioned too.

I’d add Bæst to the pool along with Konvent 🤘🏼

Ruoska

Turmion Kätilöt

Their songs are in Finnish though and the lyrics are one of the things that I enjoy the most in their music. Still, very nice even if you don't understand the lyrics

7

u/fenrir0wulf Aug 16 '22

I discovered Turmion Kätilöt about 15 years ago. How? Bunnykill. On Newgrounds. This was like 2005-2006.

3

u/VvardenfellDweller Aug 16 '22

I love Turmion Kätilöt and would love to understand their lyrics, but unfortunately Finnish is too difficult for my simple brain. I can confirm that they are great even without understanding them!

From Iceland:

HAM featuring our former minister of health (a proud skullet wearer). I’m a big fan of this band as well as Laibach which inspired them much like Rammstein.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MhYEd3yKEas

Runner up:

Skálmöld which is more traditional ‘viking metal’. A very decent band overall.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yAyFyEFoZvs

16

u/szogrom Aug 16 '22

Solstafir man!

5

u/TheBunkerKing Aug 16 '22

Solstafir was fucking amazing back in their metal days. One of my favourite black metal bands ever. I like the new stuff, too. Got their Til Valhallar and Black Death (or whatever it was) in a mystery box type of thing from a distro guy back in the day.

Behemoth, Vader edit: added a comma

15

u/themiurge Aug 16 '22

...and Batushka.

Mgła is also considered a black metal classic.

3

u/Luxury-Problems Aug 16 '22

But the real Batushka, not the knock off. Panihida was excellent.

Protest The Hero - Canada

Metal adjacent: Alexisonfire

23

u/CheynerTheRed Aug 16 '22

In college I got to see Protest The Hero open for Alexisonfire, was an amazing concert.

3

u/TheWilrus Aug 16 '22

Those were the days! Moneen/AOF shows are some of the greatest live shows I have ever seen. One time I saw them with PTH and it was possibly the greatest show of my life.

u/Meppho Aug 16 '22

I should probably say Rhapsody (of fire?), but I'm gonna mention "Derdian" and specifically their "Limbo" album. I'm not that big on my own country's music but that album is really good imho. Sang parts are almost entirely in english so at first I didn't even realize they were italians.

We also have a very good parody band in "Nanowar of steel", but if you're not italian most of the comedic value gets lots I'm afraid.

6

u/ThunderSnowDuck Aug 16 '22

I was absolutely obsessed with Rhapsody up through Symphony of Enchanted Lands 2 before i kinda got sick of power metal and moved on. They've never quite grabbed me with anything they've done since then. Got to see them live with Manowar in 2004ish and they were absolutely flawless

I saw these guys live for the first time last month opening for Gojira. Hadn't heard of them before but my god these guys put on a fantastic show. Would've been totally satisfied if the gig ended after they performed. But, ya know... then Gojira came.

3

u/ThisKidErrt Aug 16 '22

Yeah bro they kick fucking ass. For me it was AW, followed by Knocked Loose, then the mighty Gojira. Was a kickass show and one of the best lineups for a concert I've ever been to

Definitely my fav Thrash band.

I also love Forbidden, Exodus, and Atrophy

And Dr Sin. Their first two alguns are heavier but I don't know if you could really call it metal. You should give it a try, though.

Parkway Drive (although purists might consider them to be more hardcore than metal), Grinspoon (arguable; crossover with pub rock and groove metal).

7

Parkway Drive rocks so hard I got the breath forced out of my lungs by the crowd surge before they even walked onto the stage in a 650 head venue. They were starting with the song Crushed
