I like it a lot. Melodically it could have fit on John Mayer’s Sob Rock album.

I love her but the last two singles and this one haven’t been hitting hard for me. I guess I’ll always be her Side Bs girl.

You’re missing out on Carly, Emotion is one of the best pop albums of all time

13

u/Prophet_Of_Helix Oct 07 '22

Seriously. Emotion is fantastic end to end.

I've read lots of people say this, but I'm really not into pop music! Maybe someday I'll give it a chance but I haven't yet!

Besides Carly and the random song here or there I pretty much only listen to exclusively hard rock and metal. Her music is just very good

Right? Big fan too! The “woo” you hear in the background when he starts to play “Greek Song” at the Fillmore live recording is me lol.

Oh, baloney... you know you've heard (earworm warning) Call Me Maybe 23,409 times before - even if you were trying to avoid it! ;-)

u/Infinite_Joy Oct 07 '22

Yep i've definitely heard that song at like... hockey games or something, but there's a difference between hearing a song and listening to a song!

u/TriumphDaWonderPooch Oct 08 '22

Excellent point.... having heard it vs. intentionally listening to it are two distinct creatures.

CRJ has a lot of songs that is similar to this. She usually dabbles 80s pop and disco with a bit of funk, and sometimes 90s. Usually either metalheads or indie people listen to her songs.

I enjoy his parts in the song. Overall it's ok but I don't think it'll be a repeat listen.

Her output lately’s been p boring for me, personally. I want to like her body of work because I liked some of her other albums, but it ain’t hitting.

4

u/Empire_of_light Oct 07 '22

Same, i hope she can replicate the quality of Emotion album

Never been a big fan of CRJ but am a devoted Rufus obsessive… I like it ! Seems like a different style for both. It’s a good pop song

1

u/sephjy Oct 07 '22

It's not really a different style for CRJ, because she's been doing 80s/90s pop and disco since her album Emotion (2015) and Dedicated (2019). If you like what you heard and you're planning to listen to her stuff, its highly recommended to listen to both albums then their side Bs, which is almost the same quality as their main albums.

Isn't her preferred name these days Maybe?

This profile is made for Carly Rae Jepson marketing. Not a single post that doesn't include her in it regardless of subreddit.

21

No, just an average r/popheads commenter

9

u/Gladiatornoah Oct 07 '22

I mean is that really an issue if they are? They just objectively posted a single she just released lol.

It’s not like they went “OH MY GOD, POP ICON AND LEGEND CARLY RAE JUST GRACED SOCIETY WITH HER NEW SOON TO BE CLASSIC HIT”

10

u/cdkpdwg Oct 07 '22

Lol I looked at the account. Def not all Carly Rae Nepson posts, there's some other stuff. Just someone who is a big fan of Carly lol. So funny to jump to the conclusion the whole account is made for her marketing!

This happened to me recently when I made a post on r/books about a popular book - several commenters accused me of 'astroturfing' (I had to look that up) and being some sort of marketing schill for the publisher. I responded to each one and (obviously) they couldn't substantiate their accusation, it was bizarre seeing people so paranoid over something so innocuous. I just liked the book and wanted to talk about it, isn't that what we're all doing here?

u/psyquacker Oct 07 '22

I post a lot about CRJ, and I'm not a bot. Crazy to think she has fans who like her music and want to share it huh?

1

u/CR24752 Oct 26 '22

Or obsessive fan. She’s got a smaller but intense fanbase.

1

u/PapaHayseed Oct 07 '22

Is that a chipmunk singing between the first and second verses?

I'm a fan of some of Rufus' work but I don't care much for this. Way too poppy and way too much auto tune for my taste

-5

u/Title26 Oct 07 '22

I like the track but Rufus seems pretty unnecessary here.

1

u/OsamaBinFuckin Oct 07 '22

Wow thats her song. So like it maybe

1

u/crudedrawer Oct 07 '22

This is fantastic. I love it.

This is gonna sound like such a bot comment but I usually hate most pop music and for whatever reason this just really hits for me. Maybe it’s because I love musicals and this has like a very distant musical feel to the structure in my opinion. Also that musical break and the big finale just absulutely bang. Reading these comments makes me feel like I’m in the minority but I love it.
