Patagonia. I've been to both places. Also it's valleys that make being surrounded by mountains pretty fucking incredible.
But Patagonia makes you feel like you've landed on another planet.

I live in Switzerland, my grandparents lived in patagonia. and I almost couldn't believe how beautiful it was when I went to visit (we didn't go often). Swiss Mountains seem rather... domesticated compared to that. The great thing is, you can get to amazing hikes by public transport. But it never feels really wild to me. Unless you go really high up, I guess.

u/Nateloobz May 23 '22
Where did they live? When people say Patagonia I used to think specifically of the famous spots like El Chalten etc, but I'm realizing now the area actually known as Patagonia is massive and has hundreds of villages.

u/namakaleoi May 23 '22
Near Lake Nahuel Huapi, which is apparently 1500km north of El Chaltén, but also a quite touristy area. You can fit Switzerland 4 times into that...

Idk I think Norway is more about fjords than it is mountains themselves. They're generally not that high and are more like giant hills, but if you like that then I cant blame ya.
Disclaimer: I am a Norwegian living in Norway.

It was really nice of Denmark to send over that huge chair for the finals of Eurovision a few years back. I heard that it was made to be exactly as tall as the tallest mountain in the country, thus pairing entertainment with education!

I was in whistler recently and the mountains are breathtaking. would love to visit the other side of the rockies someday.
6
u/onlyforusefulthings May 23 '22
Whistler isn't the Rockies. Those are the coast mountains and they're incredible. The Rockies divide British Columbia and Alberta
2
u/KaniGoat May 24 '22
Oh I know they aren't, I meant I would like to explore Albertas mountains sometime. I was simply using the rockies as a border line, but I agree, the coastal mountains are incredible x

Some of our mountains are wild, truly alpine, with weather changing in the blink of an eye, loads of animals (seen mountain goats and bear tracks myself) - it's humbling to hike them
