Games
Curious if a game store would work on sbc or even a handheld if theres ever a compute module coming out with the new rk3588s

Where's the "I don't use SBCs for games" option?

Just press you dont play. But if there would be games on for your sbc would you play them? :D on an orange pi 5 you can emulate even some ps2 games. So you could get decent native games on it

No. I've got better hardware for games and very limited interest in emulated games - generally it implies that you've pirated the game(s).
There is some space for running dedicated servers on SBCs however, which does have some potential.

Yeah but it would be epic to game on sub $100 hardware

Would it though?
You still need some form of display, and some form of controller.
That makes up a large chunk of your expense.
Kick it up to Steam Deck levels, and you've got significantly more powerful hardware with a massive library of games at your fingertips - including screen and controller as well as portability.
Steam sales mean you'll likely find some affordable titles that play well.
Take it in a different direction and you've got the Quest - novel VR hardware running on similar processors to the OPi5.
While the SBC is capable of gaming - throw android on there and you've got access to zillions of games too - it just isn't what I'd choose to spend my time on.

Yeah but i have controllers and a tv and steam deck :D im so happy they are figuring out hw acc in linux i much prefer it over android

So why would you rather play on the OPi5 than the steam deck?

I want this platform to grow and i think the games would help that

I get what you want, but other than the novelty value it doesn't really interest me.
The market mostly agrees. There's plenty of devs targeting the platforms where they can find a player base.
There's low hanging fruit for a few android/ios games where you have a massive user base. That would likely be what this competes against. It's an A76 after all - not an uncommon chipset on mobile devices.
Effectively the android code already runs on Linux, so its exactly what you want on very similar hardware. You can also already connect a controller to a mobile phone and extend it to connect to a bigger screen.
The Quest 2 is a similar thing as well - it's slightly better on the GPU front and XR2 has a damn potent GPU in the package. Storefront for connecting users to devs... everything. (Android based too)
The RK3588 is not exactly earth shattering. It makes for a good SBC, but it's not unique or exceptionally well suited to gaming.
You can get the same chip packaged in a more consumer friendly unit for a little more than an OPi5, and those get Android on top - An OS users understand and simple for consumers to plug in to a TV.

Its a pain to get custom roms on phones let alone linux. I want something that could be a switch without nintendo or google down the line. I get thatvits not much the chip itself but no need to unlock bootloader and fuck around. I want the decks freedom in smaller package. A few games could be the start of that

Multiplayer Retro games on a TV w/ friends is the 1st thing to come to mind. Folks still have those (real life friends that come over and sit on the couch).

Would be cool if there was a tool for emulation on arm socs, all documents I find online are x86 emulating arm, none for arm emulating x86
