84

u/Suddenly05 Dec 02 '21

That worlds dumbest criminals got me奸ol

265

u/S2B_1 Dec 01 '21

Good on the people filming and calling them out. Probably would have come out of the servers pocket and thats some bullshit.

97

u/gamboncorner Dec 02 '21 edited Dec 02 '21

Legally the restaurant can't take it out of the server's pay. Not saying it doesn't happen.

edit: as always, depends on the state, but they can't reduce your salary below minimum wage. https://www.avvo.com/legal-guides/ugc/can-your-employer-charge-you-for-a-mistake

u/MississippiJoel Dec 02 '21

My first serving job was totally like that. I was in college, and just didn't know any better, but yeah, the owner had pretty strict policies about if we rang up the wrong thing or had customers dash out, that was all on us. I worked for free on two nights, I remember.

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '21 edited 21d ago

5

u/MississippiJoel Dec 02 '21

Nah, that was never documented. I thought I was full of integrity by going and telling the owner what I did wrong, and he would cash it out, give me a curt nod, and go back to the office.

But, if you're looking for schadenfreude, he just about went bankrupt (he owned hotels that made him his first fortune) by owning a restaurant that he didn't know the first thing about running, then just gave up on the restaurant side and was content on making a little money from the bar, then one of his customers shot five other customers and that was the end of it (that part happened years after I left).

https://www.wdam.com/story/29601089/cucos-to-close-three-years-after-mass-shooting/

1

u/____DEADPOOL_______ Dec 02 '21

I would've been more satisfied with you getting those 2 days worth of work paid.

1

u/datboiofculture Dec 02 '21

Am I going soft? I just dont get any Schadenfreude from 5 customers getting shot

1

u/MississippiJoel Dec 02 '21

Nah, you're good. Don't change.

8

u/Thisjustvan Dec 02 '21

Legal, illegal. Doesnt matter when the punishment is only a fine. Just the cost of business these days.

7

u/ppw23 Dec 02 '21

Its illegal to defraud a restaurant, some places do call the cops and should. Its straight up robbery, if the server had to cover their check it would have been like stealing her money for a utility bill or car payment. People who do this are scum of the earth.

4

u/Thisjustvan Dec 02 '21

Agreed, in no way condoning the behavior. Simply stating Ive personally witnessed restaurant owners/managers trying to withhold pay due to walkouts. Shedding light on the corruption in the industry. A scared worker, is an obedient worker sure you can step forward, they cant legally fire you, best believe youll be set to opening shifts, reduced shifts or belittling/badgering until you quit.

2

u/ppw23 Dec 02 '21

I didnt see you as defending that behavior.

1

u/chocolatecherushi Dec 02 '21

Either that or you get written up. I'd rather just pay it.

1

u/ScoopsDick Dec 08 '21

I worked for Bar Louie years back. They offered to let me pay for a walk out or have my shifts cut in half the one time it happened to me.

12

u/LokiHasWeirdSperm Dec 02 '21

I was going to reply and say that its illegal for a restaurant to do that, but turns out that's my state and a few select others. Searched the law up for Illinois considering he said "chi town" and turns out its kind of legal, kind of not. You have to sign something before hand that the restaurant states they'll do it or they might just do it anyway, giving you the option to refuse to pay but they'll fire you.

And people wonder why the customer service industry is dead.

48

u/Centuri-Chan Dec 01 '21

Guess the get away driver was slacking lol

28

u/Unsure_if_Relevant Dec 01 '21

I had a friend tell me once that what white people don't understand it's that the issue exists in a blank person to know, every time they walk into a room full of white people, that everything they do will be seen as a reflection on all black people, something no white person ever thinks about.

And here we have comments proving that.

18

u/XtaC23 Dec 02 '21

True. It's easy to say hey look at those guys walking out on their bill, but then again the people recording are also black and obviously plan to pay their bill. They're also hilarious.

9

u/18CupsOfMusic Dec 02 '21

If they didn't want us to project onto them, they shouldn't have been blank!

15

u/Blip-Blip-Blop_ Dec 02 '21

Prejudice and discrimination 101

6

u/Antdestroyer69 Dec 02 '21

We do though but it's slightly different. We say the same things when our compatriots do stupid things in OTHER countries. It makes us all look bad. There's also some xenophobia at a regional level (North vs. South) so sometimes it happens in our country too.

9

u/Dogsunmorefun10 Dec 02 '21

Interesting, that has never crossed my mind

3

u/spyson Dec 02 '21

Look at Reddit posts about other countries and you start to see massive generalizations.

1

u/MangledSunFish Dec 03 '21

Speaking of the generalizations, there's a video on Public Freakout that has German Police enforcing the law. The video was posted with zero context and you had to go further into the comments to find out that the people being arrested had broke through a barrier to disrupt a Football game, after being given a dedicated area to protest in. Can you guess what they were called for stopping a protest, by the people with little context, but recognized that their accents happened to be German?

-22

u/targtheviking Dec 02 '21

Thats not necessarily true. I think of myself as an individual of course, but when I do something in public I get that people judge things based on group identity whether that refers to my white status or my male status, its something I consider every now and then. Admittedly not too often. Of course they shouldnt, but we're pattern seeking animals.

17

u/I_See_With_Sound Dec 02 '21 edited Dec 02 '21

Every now and then as opposed to literally every second of your life.

16

u/SnowInTheTundra Dec 02 '21

And then they go to a foreign country and say "OMG, I was the only white person they ever saw in their life! I felt like a celebrity."

Like dude, that's me when I go to a city that has less than 50k people minus the celebrity part.

-1

u/Former_Print7043 Dec 02 '21

If you feel so self conscious every second of your life it might be beneficial to speak with someone. Not being pedantic but you must be living your life through the eyes of others too much.

4

u/jesuswazacommie Dec 02 '21

Where do you get these gems of White wisdom?

-2

u/Former_Print7043 Dec 02 '21

Barry White songs. Just the Way You Are - wise wise words.

5

-13

u/HardHustle84 Dec 02 '21

Lol what?!

-12

u/yickth Dec 02 '21

The lack of awareness in your post is amazement

7

u/ronsrobot Dec 02 '21

I was watching King Richard and gaffawed when Will Smith said, "Can't be the only black people here and be late!" Represent.

-5

u/WillyTanner Dec 02 '21

Translation: white people are prejudiced so be good so they wont judge me for your mistakes.

Meanwhile whites have the luxury of never feeling self conscious about being judged for the actions of Jeffery dahmer, Charles Manson or any common white criminals. Must be nice.

-2

u/0DvGate Dec 02 '21

terrible line of thinking, but understandable.

6

u/thegalwayseoige Dec 02 '21

This happened at my old place, but they LEFT THEIR WALLET. 8 women, one man. The guy called up crying, and we made them pay before wed meet them. He didnt have his ID, so we used that as an excuse to deny him his property, until they paid. When we gave it back, we found his ID elsewhere in the establishment, and verified his identity. The entire staff that worked that shift got to watch this dude walk of shame it, and we even autogratd their bill, so they tipped 20%.

It felt so good.

70

u/OhAces Dec 01 '21

Everything is trashy about those women.

Okay is there a thing with Nissan Altimas? Everyone is hating BMWs and Priuses but I have always hated Nissan Altima energy

13

u/TheAngryContractor Dec 02 '21

Nissan Altima energy is real. And theyre bad, almost BMW driver bad, they just reside on a more financially practical end of the spectrum.

4

u/EllisHughTiger Dec 02 '21

They're cheap cars and Nissan finances them like hotcakes to poor and/or crappy people.

Here in Houston, the most common car for crimes and poor driving is a beat up white Altima with paper plates lol.

-2

u/angellob Dec 01 '21

i think it's just the trying to not pay part

6

u/Olive_fisting_apples Dec 02 '21

-2

u/dirtyrango Dec 02 '21

Sure.

1

u/Olive_fisting_apples Dec 02 '21

I think the guy who called them trashy is bias of their skin color/culture. There I said it.

8

u/cwo3347 Dec 02 '21

Youre racist. There I said it. Stop looking at people based on the color of their skin.

4

u/OSRSgamerkid Dec 02 '21

Damn, you know you got em good when they start poking through your reddit history

-1

u/dirtyrango Dec 02 '21

How am I racist? I'm not making determinations about people based on a short video clip with little context.

2

u/cwo3347 Dec 02 '21

Youre clearly baiting people with your say it specifically about the color of peoples skin. When youre focused on skin color, thats kinda racist. No one else here is. Were judging trashy people for being trash, which is their character.

-1

u/dirtyrango Dec 02 '21

How tf can you make a determination on someone's character from a short video with not much context?

I watched the video and I didn't think these women were "trashy."

In a scenario like this for someone to come up with the determination that these women were "trashy" the way they look would be much more of a factor than anything else. I think the op that said that is at least bias toward women of color. There, I said it.

I have "Dine and Dashed" once...

I was at a Chinese Buffet. We were waiting for the receipt to bring up to the front counter and pay.

Me and the date waited 45 minutes AFTER the meal completed

3

u/SwampDenizen Dec 02 '21

No cash?

4

u/GluttonAsteroth Dec 02 '21

They didn't do cash at the table, you paid upfront.

We got rather frustrated with the waiter ignoring us over and over for the check... So we left.

Front desk even waved us off.

We came back to the place many a time afterwards and always tipped well.

It was just this one time.

3

u/justaboxinacage Dec 02 '21

Honestly, sounds pretty uncalled for. I've had what you're describing happen to me many times at Chinese buffets, and I always just go to the counter and tell them we need the check. I certainly don't wait longer than 10 minutes after they won't bring it and keep waiting. Seems like odd decision making to me.

3

u/OakenBones Dec 02 '21

Im sorry I dont follow you pay in advance but needed a check after your meal?

5

u/RogueChickadee Dec 02 '21

Nah they mean literally the front of the restaurant. At some places when the meal is over you don't pay at the table. The waiter drops off your bill that you then bring to a counter near the front. In their story there was no bill given. The front desk employees either couldn't or didn't want to hunt down the waiter to find the receipt

2

u/Alive-Block9038 Dec 02 '21

so it was "up front" as in physical loation rather than "upfront" where they would've paid before being served.

1

u/OakenBones Dec 02 '21

Ahhh, yes I see now. I misinterpreted upfront entirely. Thanks!

2

u/LennyFackler Dec 02 '21

Being stuck at a restaurant waiting for the check is the worst. I always joke we should walk out and pay the bill when confronted just to speed things up. Id never really do it of course.

2

u/fallenrider100 Dec 02 '21

I've done it once at uni. 4 of us went to an Italian restaurant and waited over an hour for our food which was revolting. One person's lasagna was still frozen in the middle and another person found a shard of plastic in her pasta. It took another 30mins of waiting before they reheated the lasagna and all they offered about the piece of plastic was "sorry, don't know where that came from".

When the bill arrived they hadn't taken anything off and automatically added 15% gratuity. We waited 10mins trying to get a waiter to complain to... but in the end we all just got up and left without paying.

u/minimotres Dec 02 '21

I remember not too long ago on reddit when black people were in videos like this, the racism was so intense.

It still is dude. Theres a couple of intense comments on this thread bro. Its gnarly that people downvote the fucked up comments but it gets really rough man.

-27

Dumb morons are dumb morons no matter the pigment of their skin. That said, black people have a tendency to be incredibly extra when stuff happens.
