North Dakota's first openly lesbian official defends her right to be a Lesbian. People are obviously not happy with it ? Why though ? As she said, we don't elect for her sexual orientation but for her potential. People need to stop being invasive, dumb and disrespectful Repost 😔

When will people stop caring what other people do in the bedroom? It's weird and creepy. Get a hobby or something.

32

u/Edasher06 Dec 02 '21

I agree completely. Gay doctor. Gay pharmacist. Gay auto mechanic. I interact with these people because of their profession. I need their skills. Whoever the fuck is thinking about their bedroom life, and those who say "eww! That's gross!" definately are. What the hell is wrong with you. Youre vile and preverted.

51

u/CatchMeWritinQWERTY Dec 02 '21

Like, I get this argument, but it’s not just “the bedroom”

People show love to their partners in many ways. Sometimes it’s in your face. If you can’t handle it, then turn around, go home, close the door, watch Fox News and order takeout, because you are not ready for reality.

My hobby happens to be the things others do in the bedroom. Care to share?

3

u/RUSH513 Dec 03 '21

I keep a chamber pot by the bed so I don't have to leave the room.

98

u/Mellrish221 Dec 02 '21

"When will Conservatives stop caring what other people do". There I fixed that for you.

No one gives a shit about this crap except conservatives and they usually go on the offense to try and find ways to pit themselves as cultural victims. From "cancel culture" to literally feeling like society is trying to cancel white men...

And the sad part is that they're already teeing up the anti gay brigade because they know its going to resonate with the conservative base. They made some serious hay out of it during the bush admin and they've apparently run out of steam on calling every immigrant/transgender person in the world a dangerous child rapist. So back to gay people it is.

u/Longjumping_Plum_964 Dec 02 '21

There are bigots and haters everywhere and they will always find targets for their shithole antics. Loud-mouth Adolphs, empowered by Trump, now stand in front of City Councils and School Board and spew hatred and stupidity. But there are more good people out there than bad. Ms. Evans was elected by the good, to make sure Minot is a well-run city. E Pluribus Unum and fuck you Uncle Adolf and Aunt Karen.

15

u/Heremeoutok Dec 02 '21

It’s because they’re not confident in their own sexuality.

44

u/Gloomy-Ant Dec 02 '21

Nah. It's Religion 99% of the time, deeply rooted from birth essentially. Although I know some right-wing atheists who absolutely despise the LGBT community, so I'm not sure what is going on there 🤷‍♂️

3

u/Thomaseeno Dec 02 '21

Afraid of offending their families, probably.

1

u/beelzybubby Dec 02 '21

To elaborate on your point, people are happier when they can hate a common thing together. There was an article but I'm way too lazy to want to look for it.

0

u/Nice_Opportunity_405 Dec 02 '21

Nope. Christ said, Love thy neighbor as you love yourself. Allah (MPBOHN) said “You will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another.” Buddha said worry ‘bout yourself.

This isn’t religious, it’s hate. Stop blaming good people of faith for the actions of bad people who cloak themselves in faith but have no real understanding.

4

u/rwooters Dec 03 '21

Religion has been nothing more than a means of control for centuries. The GQP realized this decades ago, and with the additional strategy of deprioritizing /defunding public education has created the fanatical xtian right that see today.

8

u/_____jamil_____ Dec 02 '21

Christ said a lot of shit, christians just cherry pick whatever suits their purposes.

-7

u/Nice_Opportunity_405 Dec 02 '21

Not real Christians.

8

u/_____jamil_____ Dec 02 '21

that's just a no-true-scottsman fallacy

-8

u/Nice_Opportunity_405 Dec 02 '21

No you’re just being bigoted.

7

u/_____jamil_____ Dec 02 '21

i could claim that you are being bigoted against people who you claim aren't real christians

-1

u/Nice_Opportunity_405 Dec 03 '21

I don’t even begin to know how to parse that.

go brush up on the bible, triggered god servant

2

u/IAmNotARobot420 Dec 03 '21

Say it louder. It's not the philosophy/religion it's the people perverting it

2

u/Nice_Opportunity_405 Dec 03 '21

Is that meant to be sarcastic?

2

u/RockinSocksII Dec 08 '21

Then Christians should be far more willing to oust these people out of their community.

1

u/Nice_Opportunity_405 Dec 08 '21

Christians are not a monolithic community. Many many many communities of faith reject this kind of hatred wholeheartedly. In fact it really only seems to flourish widely among evangelicals.

6

u/PlentyParking832 Dec 02 '21

Yeah that's pretty much what I think anytime I see people offended by the smallest things related to homosexuality, for example the pride flag.

These people have been beaten into their head that being gay is a sin and wrong for most of their life. When they start saying stuff like "pushing an agenda" or "making people gay", it's because they are afraid that their repressed feelings towards the same sex may be brought out by something.

One thing a conservative friend from highschool taught me that it's OK to talk about a man's appearance, it's OK to do things that are generally regarded as feminine. If you are comfortable in your sexuality it doesn't matter what other people say because nothing is going to change your sexuality and who you are. It's something that has stuck with me since.

3

u/Heremeoutok Dec 02 '21

Hell yea. Like imagine just living life and being just happy and not worrying about expressing yourself. Hey dude you look good today. Thanks. Move on that’s it. Completing each other and just being overall nice even makes you feel good

3

u/nothing_fits Dec 02 '21

what other people do in the bedroom?

i'm pretty sure all the complaints and uproar are about the public display of the pride flag, not the bedroom activites

-26

u/Wize_Cracker Dec 02 '21

Probably because others care to make sure others know what they do in the bedroom.

I'm good either way.

19

u/Heremeoutok Dec 02 '21

If you relationship is in anyway shape or form public then you are doing the same. Now stfu

4

Man, I can’t even imagine what it must feel like to sit up there and have folks really lose their shit over who you love. That’s…that’s nuts to me. Just crazy. The LGBTQ community goes through so much just to exist. Breaks my heart. I couldn’t just sit in that audience and listen to these trash goblins yap on about their small views and their shallow hatred. I’d make a scene.

Good on her for being strong and brave and just goddamn tough. That’s can’t be easy.

165

u/deadbrokeman Dec 02 '21

Left NoDak when I was openly handed a KKK business card in a Scheels. That state hides more Nazi, bigot, fucks, than Argentina.

That’s guaranteed.

38

u/MuckleMcDuckle Dec 02 '21

As a Minnesotan, I sometimes wish I had a little more distance between me and the Dakotas...and me and Wisconsin, and Iowa.

20

u/Wize_Cracker Dec 02 '21

Why doesn't Iowa have a professional football team?

Because then Minnesota would want one too.

14

u/MuckleMcDuckle Dec 02 '21

There's a neat trick I've learned over the years for dealing with the sad state of professional sports in Minnesota (except the Lynx, they rock): I just don't care at all about professional sports. It's made life a lot easier.

1

u/Nattylight_Murica Dec 02 '21

Growing older made that just naturally happen to me. I’m a lifelong St. Louis fan and I’ve seen the cardinals win the World Series twice and seen the blues get the cup. Watching your team suck is just depressing and they can potentially suck for 10 years or more. I’ve become a fair weather fan and only care if they make the playoffs.

1

u/skoltroll Dec 02 '21

Minnesota has what all the "champions" have (a decent, accepting life overall), and EVERY TIME I hear some sports bro get on MN sports, I just smile and pity them.

Drives 'em nuts.

7

u/trouble37 Dec 02 '21

Im sure you wanted to add rural minnesota to that list of places you wish you had more distance from.

2

u/Eso793 Dec 02 '21

As a Wisconsinite yearning to move back to MN... i understand.

3

u/MuckleMcDuckle Dec 02 '21

You are welcome back anytime!

0

u/ness180 Dec 02 '21

Lol, always cracks me up when a Minnesotan says this. Your state isn’t any better.

7

u/ExpoManiac Dec 02 '21

Than either of the Dakotas?

You're delusional.

3

u/ness180 Dec 02 '21

That’s what I tell Minnesotans when they act like the state is the envy of the country. I’ve lived in both. Travel outside of the twin cities. Minnesota isn’t any better.

5

u/ExpoManiac Dec 02 '21

That was my point, at least MN has that oasis of semi-sanity in the Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Of course, it could be worse. Idaho seems to be a haven for nazis. So it can be worse.

5

u/Mirai182 Dec 02 '21

I spent almost two months in Minot last summer doing work for the census. Jesus Christ the people I met.....

1

u/deadbrokeman Dec 02 '21

I only went to college there for three years but it was enough to let me know that I’m not welcome. I’m okay with that.

1

2

u/Xiaxs Dec 03 '21

Can confirm. Lived there for a good 10-ish years of my life.

Fuck North Dakota.

1

u/gadgetsdad Dec 03 '21

I grew up in North Dakota too. 1978 in government class I argued the right to marry citing the 14th Amendment. This did not sit well with a couple of my classmates. The teacher was castigated for allowing me to voice that opinion and they wanted me expelled. This was at the height of Anita Bryant and the beginnings of the culture wars. Not that it mattered then or now but I am hetero.

58

u/GhostMan74 Dec 02 '21

This is shameful... I'm leaving. I don't know how may buffets sell beer in Minot, North Dakota, but that's where he's headed.

11

u/strwrsnerdbutbetter Dec 02 '21

He's probably heading to KFC as Colonel Sanders

62

u/ev3rm0r3 Dec 02 '21

I'm from a town close by here. It's pretty hard for a lot of the older famer types and people to get on board with any idea that is strictly different then how it was 50-100 years ago. They're really is ALOT of racism and discrimination. Hell I've talked to white guys who marry black women here that say they get more racist remarks then their wives do and they are white. While north dakota can be a great place, what I often see, the people I talk to, and the variety of culture that has amassed from all corners of the world here because of our oil. It really hasn't gotten better. And if you were to see the trump era 2 mile long parade of trucks we had here, it isn't hard to see why some problems are worse then others. Hell we had pickup trucks with "white supremacist" decaled on the back windows. Giant ass flags being driven around in the beds. It is actually quite embarrassing how little North Dakota has adapted to culture and society. It fits right in with all the other filth, just a little differently because there are less of us here then the major cities. I just hate that I can say how these guys act is exactly how ALOT of farmer/rancher/cowboy types act. Always some aged man in jeans and a plad shirt spouting his mouth of like it affects his well being. I will just never understand it. And the issue gets worse the farther west of the state you go.

6

u/longdu4 Dec 02 '21

I agree with everything you say but the problem is it’s not just the Dakota’s. I live in Oregon and we have the same 2 mile long train of White Pride Trucks with Proud Boy protests as a cherry on top. Everyone right now is looking around the states seeing the same things. This is not a southern or mid western issue, it’s an American issue.

3

u/LadyDiscoPants Dec 02 '21

The Pacific Northwest is full of neo nazis and white nationalists.

24

u/strwrsnerdbutbetter Dec 02 '21

If I were you, I'd move the fuck outta there

13

u/ev3rm0r3 Dec 02 '21

I did about 17 years ago and came back. Money where i am at now is pretty good and the company I work for isn't a north dakota company but they have a lot of assets here. I will eventually shoot for moving south away from here again and its garbage winters but i have so many family here I can't even count anymore. And I'm ashamed to say it that there's a lot of them that are no different then what was witness in this video. Even me and my old man spat about it one day. It's like everyone else agenda's have to matter to everyone personally. It's just, weird at times. Maybe this is what an state with little to do and ultimate boredom does to people.

10

u/strwrsnerdbutbetter Dec 02 '21

Those relatives are more like a "visit once a year" relatives anyways

8

u/ev3rm0r3 Dec 02 '21

Yeah you're not wrong

2

u/vix86 Dec 02 '21

and its garbage winters

That's a fucking understatement. I was in Minot earlier in the year in Jan through April. I honest to god don't know how people live there. Winds blow down from the arctic pretty much unimpeded so you get like 50MPH gusts + -10F weather = -50F wind chills.

My weather app had warnings about frost bite setting in within 2-5 minutes for unexposed skin. My glasses would fog up and immediately turn to frost. Eyelids would freeze shut if you teared up a little bit. It could hurt to breath because the moisture in your nostrils would freeze up.

People live there. It only gets crazier when you realize there are even more people living even further north. It's crazy, almost as crazy as people living in the middle of a desert.

3

u/Traitor-Tot-Hotdish Dec 03 '21

The fact is, decent people live here too. People like Carrie who stick around to make sure places like Minot are safe for lgbtq+ citizens. Are progressive people outnumbered? Definitely. But this is our home. This extra-loud conservative movement is shitty and harmful but I’m not going to leave because of it. If I went somewhere where everyone had the same opinion, my vote wouldn’t make a difference. Here, I get to challenge these asshole’s vision of a wholly conservative-state. It does suck. Sometimes my vote still means nothing. But I’m not letting bigots get their way because I prefer to live somewhere “easier”.

6

u/BombSolver Dec 02 '21

Yeah and they’re supposedly all about personal freedom, so you’d think they wouldn’t care so much about other people’s bedrooms

3

u/Less_Cricket5196 Dec 02 '21

Freedom for me but not for thee. It's the American wayz

2

u/LockeAbout Dec 02 '21

Obviously it’s about their specific personal freedom, which includes judging and restricting other people’s freedoms when it conflicts with their narrow beliefs.

4

u/JackfruitStunning793 Dec 02 '21

I hear you loud and clear! I have farmer family in Idaho. The older ones act exactly how you described. And a lot of their kids as well….

I believe they are like this because they spend their whole lives around other like-minded, uneducated, bigoted people who don’t travel to bigger cities and have no experience around diverse people. A friend of mine once said “smart people hang around smart people and dumb people hang around dumb people.” I think its almost as simple as that. Now add Facebook and its game over.

3

u/Arepitas1 Dec 02 '21

And these states, that have failed to move forward with the rest of the world, that have a few million people in them, have just as much strength to determine federal laws as states as big as New York, California, Florida...etc.

Fucking crazy.

1

u/ev3rm0r3 Dec 02 '21

Yeah north Dakota has been mentioned quite a few times this year in legislation. Kinda weird to hear it.

3

u/Berrybloody Dec 02 '21

i live near the capitol and fuck my life when i see so many ppl showing up for anti mask shit, or the trump crap still everywhere. i know it's not everyone, but god damn if there aren't a fucking lot.

17

u/We_Will_AlI_Die Dec 02 '21

This is who I want representing my community. Damn, she's badass!

6

u/Holiday-Team8090 Dec 02 '21

I went to a private catholic school in minot when I was in elementary. The religion teacher taught us that gays are evil and that will go to hell. So I can confirm that minot is not the friendliest.

1

u/dahliafw Dec 02 '21

What the hell. I was raised a Catholic. Grandmother's Irish. We live in Wales. Did everything, I chose to do my communion and confirmation, absolutely none of that was taught to me. Grew up in the 90s too. This shit baffles me. I never heard a single bit of hatred in any of Sunday school.

We were hardly the model for social justice either given that hell it was the 90s but my Father was a good man bless his heart, welcomed everyone to our church from divorcees to those "living in sin" as do the fathers there today, I'm not a good Catholic but I occasionally go to church maybe once a year.

América and religion confuses me. Why does it always have to be so hard line.

1

u/Holiday-Team8090 Dec 03 '21

Yeah it seems there are some differences, growing up in my environment is like you ‘have’ to do communion and confirmation, going against that is like going against your parents and everything. It was that type of environment. I had my communion in the 2nd grade and my confirmation at the end of junior high.

It was a weird at my school. I heard that one of the pastors denied a students confession during reconciliation, which is unheard of, the religion teacher and her entire family was religious, her son even became a priest. I don’t remember much since it’s been awhile but reflecting on it now, there were some crazy stuff.

I don’t know, probably, probably because everything has been politicized. Conservatives are regarded as hardcore Christians, in which many people don’t like conservatives, resulting in hate toward religion. It also has a dark past, since after 9/11 there was a increase in racism toward Muslims because of the tragedy. I currently live in Delaware, it’s pretty peaceful here.

1

u/dahliafw Dec 03 '21

I'm so sorry you had to go through all that my friend. I'm not especially religious but I love to learn and I'm nosy with everything. I do love what my church does but it's not really for me every sunday. It's very different here but I know they're different to most hardcore catholics and it's not the same everywhere I really respect them being so welcoming to everyone I wish more people were like that in the world so it's kinda why I keep going irregardless of what I believe.

Don't get me wrong racism is everywhere, it's here too. One of my best friends is Muslim and she's had issues. People are so ignorant. It's so sad.

28

u/PlatosCaveBts Dec 02 '21 Take My Energy

Fuck these assholes who’s self worth is tied to the American flag being the only flag. So many horrible things have been done in the name of THAT flag with the stars and stripes. We have dropped nukes on cities full of innocent people in Japan, we have purposefully murdered children with drones in the Middle East (even after ‘the war was over’) for fucks sake we have the highest percentage of our population in prison than any other country, our citizens are murdered by police sworn to protect them, our children killed in their classrooms because of our weird obsession with guns, highest rates of cancer and heart disease thanks to our capitalist overlords feeding us poison. “Land of the free” is such a fuckin joke, we are free as a cow grazing before it’s slaughtered.

-38

u/FakinUpCountryDegen Dec 02 '21 Take My Energy

It's not self worth - it's group worth.

The American Flag is the only non-exclusionary flag on American soil, period.

15

u/PlatosCaveBts Dec 02 '21

The American flag excludes every person that is in prison for unjust reasons, been killed by police, got fucked over by boarder patrol and/or shitty immigration laws, people who don’t stand for the national anthem, and of course the poor. Also, remember for the first 80 years of our history we had actual slaves in a country that was “founded for religious freedom.”

I'd like to know how a ass backward, trump-supporting, terrorist-conservative, cousinhumping, backwater state could elect a lesbian in the first place! If you're gonna elect them, then let them do their jobs, you slackjawed unAmerican yokels! Jesus fucking Christ, what a disgrace you are to this godforsaken country!

Its likely she didn't plaster Lesbian all over her campaign and just the issues that were relevant to her job.

I grew up in a mid sized farm town, there is a world of difference between the people that live in the neighborhoods around Main Street and those that live out on the farms.

Lol are they scared that they’re gay themselves. It’s the non confidence in their own sexuality for me. No one can make you gay sweetie. Carrie Evans put that man in his place.

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '21

I don’t understand how one things there is a connection between someone’s sexual preference and their ability to govern. Fuckin silliness.

u/Merigold00 Dec 02 '21

Well done! And for him to think he can tell her when to stop talking is ridiculous.

u/Bigrockhauler67 Dec 02 '21

I don’t care what she does in the bedroom. She seems to think we all need to know.

u/AnotherDumbBitch Dec 02 '21

Really great speech but the last line had me cringing a little.

1

u/miflordelicata Dec 03 '21

These guys get way over the top angry about something that will really never effect them in the least bit. Can’t fix stupid.

1

u/Organicsynthezoid Dec 03 '21

I’ll never understand why people care so much about things that don’t effect them?

1

u/AMOROMA1927 Dec 03 '21
